Musk's DOGE crew lacked high-enough security clearance to access that information, so the two USAID security officials were legally obligated to deny access.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has placed two top security chiefs at the U.S. Agency for International Development on leave after they refused to turn over classified material in restricted areas to Elon Musk’s government-inspection teams, a current and a former U.S. official told The Associated Press on Sunday.
Members of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE, eventually did gain access Saturday to the aid agency’s classified information, which includes intelligence reports, the former official said.

Griffin Eckstein at Salon:
Tesla CEO and Trump advisor Elon Musk gave Fox News’s Bret Baier a rare look inside his Department of Government Efficiency on Thursday. While the conversation centered around supposed cost-cutting, talk of enemies of MAGA and Musk was never far off. The X owner doubled down on promises from Attorney General Pam Bondi and President Donald Trump that those caught vandalizing Tesla dealerships would face harsh legal penalties. However, Musk took it a step further, promising punishment for Tesla’s critics. “People are committing violence. They are firebombing Tesla dealerships. They are shooting guns into stores. They’re threatening people,” Musk said. “Why? What’s happening, it seems to me, is they’re being fed propaganda by the far left, and they believe it.”
Elon Musk is a freedom of speech-hating scumbag.

Sam Seder going off about Ritchie Torres (and a lot of establishment Dems in general) bemoaning his constituents wanting him to act, then literally calling him and leaving him snarky voicemails was all my feelings. I doubt anyone other than some random intern will hear his voicemails, but it was still funny.

"anarchist direct actions can be about handing out completely legal, nonobjectionable flyers about mental health on a college campus. i'm the most politically radical and bold person in my friend group btw 😌" gosh i missed this website. you cannot get that anywhere else. on twitter that would be like a blue checkmark take from a democratic party influencer but here they're doing it in 6 paragraphs purely for love of the game.

Hey, maybe with Trump, it’ll be like Hillary, except *he’s* the one everyone thinks will win.
that's actually a super good point, given in 2016 it looked a lot like hillary was gonna win but then somehow trump did

“regret is unprofessional” is such a BANGER line and SUCH an absolute shaw/si:7 thing to say. i am scavenging james bond for parts. being in the line of work bond and M were, in intelligence and covert ops, you can't have regrets, you have to think on the fly, you can't second guess, and most importantly, you cannot become risk-averse. not in this field. M's cold, cruel methodology in handling her double O agents risks their lives without batting an eye, because they're here for results above all else.
and this mentality ABSOLUTELY applies to the way shaw runs the si:7, the mentality pathonia instilled on her organizations. though mathias cares very deeply for the well being of his agents, he understands that there HAS to be a level of detachment. si:7 agents live, serve, and die in the shadows, without anyone ever knowing of their deeds. this is what you sign up for. it is necessary to risk it all. shaw HAS to be able to send his agents out to dangerous missions, even if it means they won't come back. he HAS to be able to have the strength to absolutely cut his losses and erase them if they compromise the safety, structure, and status quo of their mission statement. he cannot always go out and rescue agents if it will risk something greater beyond them.
there can be no remorse in this field, in this line of duty. the si:7 fulfills a specific purpose: efficiency above all else. there's no apologies to be offered when things go wrong. this is the nature of it. to regret these decisions, well, now you've brought emotion to a field that demands cold, absolute calculation. you threaten to bring the whole machine to ruin. start regretting one slip up, and where does it stop? do we regret what put them in that position? the conflict itself? the need to draw blood? the lives lost in all sides of conflict? the trauma inflicted? the messes it creates? why, if we start regretting little things, we might end up regretting the entire structure of it. then what? bring this whole machine to an end because it's too much to bear? then who will do the dirty work? must we mourn and riot and cry every time our fingernails get dirty? why, we'd never get ANYTHING done!
regret is unprofessional.

What got Archer interested in canine Pokemon specifically?
Tumblr media
I don't know if I could point to one specific moment in time in his life where he decided to go all-in on his dog obsession but there are a few Big Contributors to it.
as an orphan, he saw a lot of stray / abandoned Pokemon on the streets, and a lot of them were canines. he admired their tenacity and determination to survive, sometimes even forming small packs and groups of their own but also entirely willing to fight and hurt (or even kill) each other if it meant preserving their own survivability.
he received Hades as a Houndour as a gift shortly after he was adopted as a reward for performance in his homeschooling, and for companionship. obviously Hades has since become omnipresent in Archer's life and is the closest thing he's come to having a 'friend'. (inner details of the complexity of their relationship here.)
Hades has been there through it all and saved Archer's bacon on several occasions so there's definitely a bond there, and a feeling of debt. it was coincidental at first that he received his two other Houndooms (Helena and her son Ignatius), having won a then-pregnant Helena from her former owner in his illegal underground battles.
after his first year in Rocket and becoming an Exec, Archer has come to realize the 'pack dynamic' suits him, and he's especially comfortable being at the top of it.
it helps that he has a canine-like mentality and personality himself, and that canine Pokemon are generally very loyal, intelligent and take well to training even with very complicated tasks. they're also not usually especially big to the point of being impossible to take around with him in public or keep in his house, and thus are fairly easy to take care of.
much of what Archer values in himself and in people are common traits in canines, particularly loyalty, intelligence and obedience, along with being predators that are capable fighters and survivors. the adaptability of being able to survive alone but also function and contribute in a group is a valuable asset. he sees himself in them, so he feels less alone when surrounded by them. it also helps that they're cute as fuck sometimes.

I'm a big fan of wizards-as-programmers, but I think it's so much better when you lean into programming tropes.
A spell the wizard uses to light the group's campfire has an error somewhere in its depths, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. The wizard spends a lot of his time trying to track down the exact conditions that cause the failure.
The wizard is attempting to create a new spell that marries two older spells together, but while they were both written within the context of Zephyrus the Starweaver's foundational work, they each used a slightly different version, and untangling the collisions make a short project take months of work.
The wizard has grown too comfortable reusing old spells, and in particular, his teleportation spell keeps finding its components rearranged and remixed, its parts copied into a dozen different places in the spellbook. This is overall not actually a problem per se, but the party's rogue grows a bit concerned when the wizard's "drying spell" seems to just be a special case of teleportation where you teleport five feet to the left and leave the wetness behind.
A wizard is constantly fiddling with his spells, making minor tweaks and changes, getting them easier to cast, with better effects, adding bells and whistles. The "shelter for the night" spell includes a tea kettle that brings itself to a boil at dawn, which the wizard is inordinately pleased with. He reports on efficiency improvements to the indifference of anyone listening.
A different wizard immediately forgets all details of his spells after he's written them. He could not begin to tell you how any of it works, at least not without sitting down for a few hours or days to figure out how he set things up. The point is that it works, and once it does, the wizard can safely stop thinking about it.
Wizards enjoy each other's company, but you must be circumspect about spellwork. Having another wizard look through your spellbook makes you aware of every minor flaw, and you might not be able to answer questions about why a spell was written in a certain way, if you remember at all.
Wizards all have their own preferences as far as which scripts they write in, the formatting of their spellbook, its dimensions and material quality, and of course which famous wizards they've taken the most foundational knowledge from. The enlightened view is that all approaches have their strengths and weaknesses, but this has never stopped anyone from getting into a protracted argument.
Sometimes a wizard will sit down with an ancient tome attempting to find answers to a complicated problem, and finally find someone from across time who was trying to do the same thing, only for the final note to be "nevermind, fixed it".

Man that's the thing that's tragic, like- electric cars! Those are good! Those are good for the environment! One really positive impact of Tesla was that their marketing turned fully electric cars from a lame-o thing for weird hippies into something that was all cool and exciting and cutting-edge that the mainstream wanted to buy, and the fact that you've started to see lots of Teslas out and about is like, good. We want that! We want that so that, like, New York doesn't go underwater and stuff. Just 'cause the wacko in charge of the company decided to become the main antagonist of the internet recently doesn't mean it is less of a good thing to drive an electric car.
(if you've seen all the news articles about how they catch on fire sometimes: yeah cars do that occasionally. the ones full of gasoline that run on tiny explosions do that more and worse, they just don't run news articles about them because those don't make people mad and generate clicks.)
It amazes me how many teslas I see out and about. Like you guys bought one for real? On god? No joke?????
