Hey, maybe with Trump, it’ll be like Hillary, except *he’s* the one everyone thinks will win.
that's actually a super good point, given in 2016 it looked a lot like hillary was gonna win but then somehow trump did

For energy and utility companies, the key to resilient business operations is intelligence, insights and expertise
Now more than ever, our world is powered by energy and utility companies. They keep the lights one, deliver an uninterrupted flow of clean water, and allow us to connect to jobs, services, families and friends. In the face of so many other disruptions, these essentials continue to flow so seamlessly that it often feels like magic. But for those that must ensure consistent operations and optimal performance to deliver them, it can feel like anything but.
Under normal circumstances, it is a constant and delicate balance to maintain for essential infrastructures like power stations, water or gas lines. When faced with extraordinary circumstances, the pressure on these companies can be staggering: a surge in demand, employees who need increased safety protocols, and unwavering vigilance against increased cyberattacks. The new watchword is “resiliency.” and for today’s E&U organizations, it starts with insights.
A systematic approach to keeping the lights on
To stay operational, companies often use insights from their asset performance and history. But to build greater operational resilience , we now see customers using those connected-asset insights plus information from other untapped data sources, such as weather. This more robust data set is critical to maintain equipment, avoid downtime, control costs, and improve reliability. For example, predictive maintenance alone can reduce costs by 15-20 percent, improve asset availability by 20 percent, and extend the lives of machines by years.1
We also see many of our E&U customers use a three- pronged approach to create a more flexible and responsive operation:
Maintain: predictive maintenance of assets and management of vegetation to avoid downtime and disruptions
Prepare: utilize analytics to monitor and predict potential issues before they happen, such as impending weather issues
Restore: quickly, effectively and safely resolve issues due to outages or main breaks
Consider vegetation management. Power lines and trees do not mix well, but it is often difficult to know where trees are and how soon their overgrowth will pose an issue for the power lines nearby. However, with predictive technologies, power utility companies can map where vegetation lies, evaluate risk, and contract out resources to maintain lines as needed as part of their preventive maintenance efforts. Or if an impending storm is coming to the area, they can prepare by looking across the impacted territory, identifying the highest risk areas, and focusing outage prevention in those specific areas. This puts crews in the right place at the right time for both prevention and quick restoration.
Many of our customers are putting additional focus on a fourth prong: plan, as these unprecedented disruptions highlight the need for robust disaster planning. For example, should a severe storm arise, a utility company could implement their enhanced contingency plan that leverages predictive weather data and enhanced mobility tools. This plan would take into account needed repair time while also keeping workers safer, whether it’s a lone worker or a field crew that is right-sized to adhere to new social distancing norms. Or a company might activate a plan to isolate critical staff on-site, protecting both workers and critical operations.
Put data to work
This is what it means to truly put data to work. Data by itself feels overwhelming. Insights generated by data give us critical information. But it is only when those insights are mapped back into the operational workflows and translated to work orders and crew adjustments that they truly help contain costs, improve the customer experience, and reduce safety incidents. Utilities have never had insights like this before, nor have they ever needed them more, either. Yet it’s how they are driving a smarter business.
Hear industry leader, Terry Saunders, discuss how to drive innovation in energy and utilities. It’s all about reducing operating costs, attracting and retaining talent, improving customer engagement and increasing worker safety. And learn more about IBM services for intelligent connected operations and solutions for asset performance management and vegetation management.
Ensure efficient and reliable equipment operations
Insights from connected assets and untapped data sources are critical to understanding the preventive, predictive, and prescriptive actions needed to maintain equipment, optimize performance, and avoid downtime. Getting Executives Excited About Cloud-First
Getting executives excited about Cloud-First is a critical step in your journey to cloud. For organisations that currently run their own data centre, making this shift is a significant digital transformation project.
To pull it off, you’ll need more than just the latest technology and the enthusiasm of your IT staff. You’ll need an invested business sponsor. At the end of the day, any successful long-term project is always driven by a senior executive.
In this blog we’ll explore how to get senior executives interested in your Cloud-First vision. We will also take a look at the advantages their involvement brings.
Below is a list of all the topics we will cover in this blog post. Click on any of these links and you’ll be taken to the corresponding section:
Appealing to C-Level Executives
Keeping your Business Sponsor Excited About Cloud-First
Using Training to Build Trust in Cloud Solutions
The Dangers of Moving Ahead Without a Business Sponsor
Although it’s possible to get started without a business sponsor, there’s only so far you can go without one. You may get a few apps into the cloud, but you won’t get the more complex stuff there. Things like legacy systems, the customer databases or the back-office ERP.
By going it alone you also risk losing momentum. If business leaders, IT leaders, and C-level executives don’t have a common understanding of cloud, your organisation may hesitate. The minute things get difficult they may become sceptical and progress can slow.
Finally, in order to get the funding required to try cloud based solutions you need senior management to trust it will be worth the investment.
Appealing to C-Level Executives
Now you understand the risks of proceeding without a business sponsor, how exactly do you get one onboard with Cloud-First?
The secret lies in understanding their priorities so you can position cloud as the solution. Ask yourself which business pain points they are most concerned about, and how cloud can solve them?
Here are some of the concerns C-Level executives in your organisation might have:
The CEO may be concerned about staying ahead of competitors
The CIO may be feeling pressure to deliver new services faster and more efficiently
The CFO may be fretting about cash flow and looking for ways to save money
The CMO may be itching to respond faster to market changes, experiment with new approaches or make smarter use of analytics
And the CISO may be motivated by the need for more visibility, auditability and control
You need to equip yourself with the resources and information to explain how cloud computing can solve these issues.
Finding your Cloud-First Cheerleader
Remember, you don’t need buy-in from all C-Level executives. Demonstrate to just one of them that making the journey to cloud will deliver the benefits they’re seeking and you’ll have a powerful sponsor.
They’ll act as your cloud cheerleader. This will keep the business focused on why you’re moving to cloud and the new capabilities it will unlock.
Keeping your Business Sponsor Excited About Cloud-First
The shift to Cloud-First is a huge digital transformation that takes months or even years. You need your sponsor excited and energised throughout this entire process. The most effective way to do that is to get some quick wins early on.
Identify applications or workloads that can move quickly and easily to the cloud, and which will deliver very visible benefits. Your existing apps are likely to integrate with other systems and be complex to move. So, it’s best to start with net-new applications.
Look for apps that the business needs, but which have previously been deemed impractical to implement on-premises. This might be because they’re resource-hungry, or will only be needed occasionally, or would have meant a high-end hardware investment.
This need could come from anywhere in the organisation. However, for the best results, look for something that’s personally important to your executive sponsor.
Using Training to Build Trust in Cloud Solutions
So where does training fit into this process? To shift to cloud you need C-Level executives, and your organisation as a whole, to trust cloud based solutions. Training is the key to building this trust.
Organisations that want to get the most out of cloud need to equip their workforce for a successful cloud transformation. They should train a wide range of stakeholders on cloud fundamentals, including providing deep training to key technical teams.
Research carried out by IDC shows that comprehensively trained organisations have a lower sense of concern about cloud computing. This is coupled with a greater belief that cloud can be customised to reduce those concerns.
For example, comprehensively trained organisations are better able to realistically assess security concerns, to implement security safeguards, and to build improved or additional security processes or procedures, if necessary.
The 7 Essentials of a Cloud-First Transformation
Getting executives onboard is just the first step in making a successful transition to Cloud-First. To learn the next steps in the journey check out our blog on the 7 Essentials of a Successful Cloud-First Transformation.

We Keep Hearing That Western Diet Is Different Than Eastern Diet. Eastern, Western, Mediterranean, etc, Why It Even Matters? How Diet Affects NRF Activation
Writing on the difference between Eastern & Western diet is something I can write a book about as I was born in Iraq and I have been living in the US for the last decade. My wife, on the other hand, was born & raised in the US and Western diet is all she knows until she met me. So eastern, the western diet is my daily life, all day every day & I love it! But looking at this subject with a little ‘scientific’ lens, we will see it’s more than just different types of dishes, or the way they look. It’s the ingredients, the way to prepare them, the frequency of using herbs and spices, and so on. Below are real pictures I found in my online album. This is what we have one day for breakfast – traditional eastern breakfast- and what we have for dinner -traditional western dinner- on any given day.
But first things first, you need to get a little familiar with the term Oxidative Stress. If you are new to these terms, no worries, check my article on Oxidative Stress, it will make you go huh? Really? Check it out here.
When I started learning all about Nrf and the biology of our body it took me a few tries to piece together the information in my brain. But as my background is in Information Technology, I always referred to my tech mind to help me out with few examples. So I might incorporate some of them here to help out non-medical people to hash out the info.
So What Is NRF?
NRF stands for Nuclear Factor Erythroid. It’s a pathway and transcription factor. There are different NRF in our body, but the most popular one is Nrf2.
Nrf2: Looking up the definition of Nrf2 in a couple places, I found that the Wikipedia definition is the simplest to understand. Nrf2 is “Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), also known as nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-like 2, is a transcription factor that in humans is encoded by the NFE2L2 gene.[5] Nrf2 is a … protein that regulates the expression of antioxidant proteins that protect against oxidative damage triggered by injury and inflammation.[6]”
Nrf2 is the one I will be focusing on for this article, and I will demonstrate the reasons why I think we should all focus on activating, researching & studying it, and above all making it public knowledge to improve our health individually.
What Does Nrf2 Do?
What Does Nrf2 Do?
Nrf2 is like a sensor that we have in so many of today’s technologies. I relate it to one of the programming fundamentals, which is ‘IFTTT’ ‘If This Then That’.
Nrf2Science defines it as the Master Regulator “At the very center of our cellular protective pathway is a protein called “Nrf2” that serves as a “master regulator” of the body’s antioxidant response. You might think of Nrf2 as a “thermostat” within our cells that senses the level of oxidative stress and other stressors and turns on internal protective mechanisms.”
So Nrf2 looks at how many Free Radicals are being produced and triggers corresponding enzymes to produce as many antioxidants to fight them. Some of the antioxidant enzymes are: SOD (Superoxide dismutase) glutathione, and catalase.
The high production of free radicals combined with the low production of antioxidants will cause Cellular Stress or Oxidative Stress.
A study by Washington State University stated “NRF2…May Well Become The Most Extraordinary Therapeutic And Most Extraordinary Preventive Breakthrough in The History Of Medicine.”.
It took me a few tries, and it didn’t stick with me how big of a deal this all ways until I asked my wife (who is an occupational therapist) to explain it to me. My wife told me that the last time Washington State made a statement like this, it was about penicillin.
WOW! Nrf is a big deal and can make a huge difference in the way we cure diseases and treat chronic illness.
What Is Cellular Stress?
Nrf2Science describes that “Too many damaging free radicals — or too few protective antioxidants — can wreak havoc on cell membranes, mitochondria, and DNA, leading to tissue damage and a wide range of chronic diseases, including cancer, chronic fatigue, diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease. For more than 50 years, scientists have known the aging process to be linked to highly reactive oxygen molecules produced during normal metabolism. These oxygen molecules, often called “free radicals” or “reactive oxygen species” (ROS), can react with and cause damage to cellular structures throughout the body. Particularly vulnerable to oxidative damage are cell membranes, DNA (genetic material), and mitochondria (where cells generate energy)—and damage to these vital areas often means that cells cannot function properly.” Cellular Stress/Oxidative Stress is something that we need to combat in our cells as it has been linked to many chronic diseases like cancer, chronic fatigue, diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease, etc.
Some of the chronic diseases that are linked in a way or another to oxidative stress
The Cause of Oxidative Stress
Even though Oxidative Stress is harmful to the cell, it is part of its natural behavior. According to Nrf2Science “Sometimes, the body deliberately makes free radicals in order to neutralize viruses and bacteria.” Also, scientists have found that the cell produces free radicals during its normal metabolism. However, the problem arises when there are too many free radicals that they begin to interfere with the cell’s normal functions. The increase of free radicals might also be from external sources as well. External factors like food, pollution, smoking, pesticides, fungicides, chemicals, etc.
A quick search on the topic of Oxidative Stress and the diseases related to it will yield quite some results, probably more than what we would like to see. However, relatively speaking, all research seems to be limited, or new in age. But for the most part, this is where taking antioxidants started taking off. Things like vitamin C supplements, vitamin E supplements, eating more blueberries, etc. The kind of routine that we have been familiar with. The only issue with this approach is that we are supplementing our body with external antioxidants, which is better than nothing but is very limited in the amount of effectiveness in combating oxidative stress and eliminating the increasing number of free radicals.
The other emerging approach, which is the one I subscribe to, is ‘hacking’ the Nrf2 pathway to signal the production of antioxidants within our body itself instead of supplementing our body with external synthetic antioxidants. In my tech mind, I imagine our body as this perfect computer and at some point it starts to slow down (due to aging and other factors), instead of me upgrading the machine by adding RAM, better processors, etc (which is not possible to our human-machine), I will try to optimize my Operating System to use fewer resources, perform functions in a more efficient way, remove bugs, viruses, & malware. Releasing the system from the unnecessary burden that we are putting it in, is much easier, and more efficient than upgrading or supplementing with external resources. That’s where Nrf2 Activation comes into the picture.
We can think of Nrf2 as a switch/regulator more than a direct involver in the production of antioxidants. It’s a gatekeeper and a powerful gatekeeper! And for those reasons, Nrf2 Activation is a really important phenomenon.
Nrf2 Activation / Switch-On
Activating the Nrf2 pathway has been on the radar of scientists, researchers, and pharmaceutical companies. Some made more progress than others, but Nrf2 Activation is gaining some attention and ground. Respected universities have been involved in the study of this subject like Ohio State University, Texas Tech, Harvard, University of Colorado, and others. As well as companies like, LifeVantage, BioGen IDC, Abbott, and a few others.
Turn – On NRF2
We want to activate the Nrf2 pathway as it will signal the production of folds upon folds of powerful antioxidants. Even though studies & researches on activating Nrf2 still at their early stages, but so far there are some promising results. As our body is a collection of cells, then it will make sense that protecting our body as a whole it must start from a cellular level.
Activating Nrf2 is something that will only gain more ground forward, as it has been doing for the last couple of decades.
How Can We Activate Nrf2?
Recently there have been many studies talking about the benefits of different natural plants as powerful antioxidants. A few examples are: curcumin, green tea, blueberries, bacopa, Hydrogenated Water/ Ionized Water, etc. Each one of these individually activates Nrf2 in its own way.
spices – a natural antioxidant
Food is a big part of activating Nrf2, and also, is a big player in limiting the activation of Nrf2 as well. There is a very informative article with the title “Activation of the Nrf2 Cell Defense Pathway by Ancient Foods: Disease Prevention by Important Molecules and Microbes Lost from the Modern Western Diet” You can read the full article here (https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0148042)
One of the interesting findings of the article is “several aspects of modern food technology, including the elimination of cooking with wood fire, the shift to food preservation by canning and refrigeration, and the brewing of alcoholic beverages under strictly controlled conditions, all have contributed to the elimination PAD-expressing microbes, together with elimination of alkyl catechols and catechol, from the modern Western diet. Collectively, these large-scale dietary changes have potentially serious negative consequences for Nrf2 defense and health among persons relying exclusively on modern Western foods. In contrast, Asian, Middle Eastern, and African diets still contain many foods prepared and preserved by traditional methods through fermentation with PAD-expressing lactobacilli (reviewed in [141–145]) and thereby continue to provide sources of alkyl and catechol Nrf2 co-factors.”
In Conclusion:
Activating Nrf2 is a new holistic approach to improve our overall health, and it’s part of modern biohacking. Due to that, you will find many skeptics who won’t even dabble in the idea. Using herbs & food for treatments is still not looked at as a curing method in the western world or even serious preventative measures. At the end of the day, your health is your responsibility, whether you delegate the decision making to a professional person, or you take control of your biology and the awareness that requires. Your body, your life, your decision.

Samsung AA-PB6NC6B Battery all-laptopbattery.com
Those are all well and good, and should appear when laptops equipped with the new Richland chips hit retailers "beginning this month in select regions," as AMD explains. But what should really differentiate those laptops from the ones powered by chips from AMD's gargantuan competitor, Intel – aside from improved graphics in AMD's offerings – is price.AMD did not provide details in its Tuesday release about pricing for its new processors APUs – which, by the way, are all 35-watt parts with lower-power parts to come later – but you can be sure that its prices will be lower than those charged by Chipzilla. Product Round-up Does it make sense to own both a smartphone with a 5-inch screen and a 7-inch tablet? Arguably not. I can’t think of anything that I can do on my Nexus 7 that I couldn’t do equally well on a Samsung Galaxy Note II. Granted, the Nexus 7 makes a perfect partner for my Motorola Razr i, but if I used a Note II as my ‘phone’ I’d want a Nexus 10 as a tablet. In short, a big phone dictates a bigger tablet.
So, following on from my recent look at the current crop of monster phones, it’s time to have a quick shufti at the best big tablets to go with them.Big here means a tumescent ten inches of technology to stroke and fondle. Before I take a kicking from the pedants, yes, I know none of these tablets are actually ten-inchers. Two have a third of an inch too little between the corners, and eight have a tenth too much. But what’s a fraction of an inch between friends?Putting this list together today rather than six months ago was made a lot easier by the long overdue demise of the Apple-Google tablet OS duopoly. After the misfires that were the BlackBerry PlayBook - if it had sold then, pound-to-a-penny there’d be a 10-inch version by now - and the HP TouchPad, a third alternative was sorely needed. So say what you like about Windows 8 and RT, at least Microsoft’s new swipe-enhanced operating system means that round-ups like this no longer need consist of one iPad and nine Android tablets. Finally some real choice for those who don’t like what’s on offer from either Cupertino or Mountain View.
Acer has knocked out so many lookalike 10-inch Android tablets over the years it’s well nigh impossible to keep track. The A500, the A510, the A580... how many of you actually spotted the last isn’t an Acer tablet but a road linking Manchester and Liverpool? I rest my case. The A210 is, on the face of it, another par-for-the-course 10.1-inch, 1280 x 800 Android tablet but it has two things going for it: price - the 16GB version can be found for £250 if you look hard enough - and a full-size USB 2.0 port.Personally I like the ability to plug in a USB stick or external HDD to watch my video collection without having to worry about adaptor cables and such. There are a couple of other useful hardware touches too, including a physical screen lock switch and covered Micro SD slot. The 3260mAh battery is a bit gutless - you’ll get five hours of video playback but no more - and as a device it’s a wee bit thick and heavy. But if the price is right, that USB socket makes it worth a look.

Unimpeachable build quality, a selection of tablet-optimised apps that’s second to none, epic battery life, a screen that you can’t level any serious criticisms at, and bricks and mortar support from your local Apple Store that redefines what what we Brits understand by ‘customer service’. It really isn’t hard to understand why world+dog+fleas wants one of these things even if all they use it for is ebook reading, social networking and browsing the web.In the negative column, it’s locked down tighter than a Tory MP in a massage parlour, it’s hugely expensive - prices start at £399 for the 16GB version, though that does at least represent much better value for money than the £269 iPad Mini - there’s no storage expansion and Apple’s iCloud looks limited to anyone used to Dropbox, Google or Microsoft cloud services. There’s no GPS radio in the Wi-Fi version either, though to be fair it’s not something Windows tablets offer.Ten years ago, Intel decided notebook computers needed a boost. The technology wasn’t new, but while a fair few mobile workers had portable computers, and some even had modem cards or were using Bluetooth-connected phones to reach the internet, laptops weren’t seen as a truly mobile networkable device.
Centrino combined Intel processor, chipset and networking products into a platform laptop makers could buy and build new systems around. Doing so would give them the right to use the Centrino brand, which, with vigorous advertising from Intel, would, they hoped, hook in punters.Intel’s Centrino initiative derived from two trends. Laptop sales were on the rise, and with the arrival in 1999 of Wi-Fi wireless networking technology - which conveniently coincided with the real availability of home broadband - more and more locations were offering wireless internet access at speeds well in excess of what mobile telephone tech could provide to users away from home and out of the office.Notebook shipments hit 30.5 million in 2002 - 23.5 per cent of all the PCs shipped that year, according to IDC, a market watcher, up from 22.5 per cent in 2001. Demand for mobile computers was beginning to boom, despite higher though falling purchase prices and lower performance than that offered by desktop PCs. Punters were getting keen on easily accessible, mobile computing, but laptop battery performance was too poor for notebooks to be reliable for pick up and go usage. The internet was a killer application for a new generation of users. While wireless technology was available to the wealthy and to businesspeople with IT staff to fit it, it wasn’t a standard feature for the rest of us.
Intel decided that if it was to push forward sales of notebooks - and thus sales of its own, more pricey chips - it needed to tackle both of these barriers.Inside Intel is was realised that the company’s current mobile chips, back then pared down versions of desktop parts, were not sufficiently power efficient. An Intel team in Haifa, Israel was tasked to build a mobile-specific processor with a low power consumption as a key design goal. But the new chip also had to match the performance of the latest Intel mobile chip, the Pentium 4-M.The result was Banias, a 130nm, 77 million-transistor chip that was based on Intel’s then previous generation of processor, the Pentium III and its P6 micro architecture. Banias comprised the Pentium III core connected to the Pentium 4 bus interface to allow it to use modern motherboard designs. It had a 400MHz frontside bus clock. Intel’s Streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE) 2 instruction set was added too, again to bring the part up to date.

Intel’s engineers in Haifa extended the company’s existing SpeedStep technology to increase the number of possible clock frequencies the chip could dynamically switch to, the better to cut power consumption when the host machine was idling or running lightweight applications. The team also upped the chip’s Level 2 cache size to 1MB to allow more data and instructions to be retained on board the processor, reducing the number of wasteful calls to main memory. The cache was segmented into units which could be run at a very low power level when not being accessed. Finally, they introduced Micro-ops Fusion, a technique the combined two of the CPUs native instructions, converted from the standard x86 instruction set retained for compatibility, into one in order to execute the pair more quickly than they would separately. The faster instructions are processed, the quicker parts of the chip can have their power cut to reduce overall energy consumption levels.
The upshot was a chip capable of consuming a maximum of 27W, falling to just 5W when idling. The benefit, Intel said, was clear in a Centrino system’s battery life. Using MobileMark 2002, “the industry’s first benchmark testing a combination of battery life and performance”, the company was able to show that a Centrino-based system might deliver up to five hours of battery life, compared to about four hours with a Pentium III M system and about three hours with a mobile Pentium 4 M-based systems.“On the same benchmark, Intel Centrino mobile technology offers 41 per cent faster performance on multitasking office productivity applications compared to a mobile Pentium III 1.2 GHz, and a 15 per cent improvement compared to the mobile Intel Pentium 4 M 2.4GHz system,” the chip maker noted. Of course, it didn’t say which of the 1.60, 1.50, 1.40 1.30GHz Banias launch Pentium M processors it had used.
