Honey: His insole lifts
Hikaru: Everything he learned the previous year
Kaoru: His new school year, new me resolutions
Haruhi: Her favorite pen
Tamaki: A sense of calm
Kyoya: A positive attitude
Renge: Her official school uniform, and NOT her cosplay school uniform
Kasanoda: His cat ears
Nekozawa: Beelzenef - Accidentally left him in the wash. The school year is off to a cursed start. How delightful.

Why is Ouran Host Club so goofy?
I'm rewatching Ouran host club for funsies and I have burst into tears twice now from pure utter giggling from how goofy the entire thing is.
while some episodes are dedicated to character growth and gives more insight into each character(those episodes are my favourite, ignoring the ones with trans slurs in them............)
the entire conflict of most episodes are either goofy, so out of reality its hard to process, or just plain ridiculous. Like the one I just finished, where Renge is introduced.
A woman from france projecting her fictional love onto a real person(while serious irl, the entire episode makes it so funny, while also ending up giving an important lesson.) ends up becoming the host club's manager, trying to give the characters some sort of dark backstory like its a 2016 wattpad omegaverse fic where Y/N isn't like other girls, to shooting a film about it, and then learning to not judge or stereotype a book by the look of its cover?
It just sounds so out of pocket goofy you can't help but giggle.
Turning to the episode after that "The Twins argue", this is one of my favourites, because we see more insight to how and why the twins act like they do(while we get more info about them in future episodes, you really see the anime try to expand on their characters)
While by the end of the episode, we learn they began fighting bc they were simply bored, I feel like part of his fight was genuine at some point and at least made up at home that night and decided to then make the script to keep arguing. But the little flashback to that bench scene and the end of the episode.
the twins are lonely, the fact that only one person prior to Harhui was able to tell them apart, the fact that someone else, someone who's able to correctly identifiy the two of them apart? That must be so jarring to them, seeing how in one of the final episodes, the twins at a young age are told no one would be able to tell the two apart? That leaves an effect on their pysche to the point that when someone can tell them apart? No wonder they get so attached to Harhui after that.
just realised how long this has gotten, went from why is this show so goofy to talking about characters and their developement. My thought process everyone.

Movie Review: The Half of It (2020)
Okay @notesoncrocs! I've finally watched it, and got dang!
Synopsis: Chinese American high school senior Ellie Chu lives in suburban seattle, and makes pocket money writing her classmate's english papers. She doesn't know much about love, just literature and music, and has a crush on the only girl who might understand her... but she's also the school's it girl. When a jock Paul asks her to write love letters to this same girl, she says yes to just ONE letter. But one letter becomes two, and messy messy messy friendship, lovers, and love of all kind.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Movie Review
So I watched this with my mom. So I was simply grateful to see queer asians represented on American film.
Ugh!! Paul and Ellie's friendship, and how they are, in real time, forming their young, naive, understanding of what love is, is so... precious. So coming of age. The two of them are like characters from a YA book you grew up with and never want to let go: flawed, cringy, but already cozy in their place in your heart.
The movie itself was beautiful as well, in terms of color palette and camera placement, and I don't think the art ever got in the way of the story-telling. And the references to literature, movies, and philosophy never got too obnoxious, but was just enough to understand the world of Ellie and the writer. All this to say, the movie was natural and not forced at all.
My Thinklings
I really really liked what the characters had to say about love. Paul and Ellie continuously circle the idea that love is the effort you put into letting the other person know they're loved, as opposed to magically finding your destined other half. This idea seeps through the movie, into the romance and the friendship and family: for example, Ellie and Paul start in a pay-for-play relationship, but do so many small things for each other with no expectation of any return at all.
The same idea must've struck @notesoncrocs because she mentions that last scene of him running by the train tracks, futilely... but for her to know. I just sit here now, wanting more out of my life, especially to DO more personally for others around me. Like if this is not the meaning of life/How can I say I have lived?
I'm basically done, but also a small thinkling I have is about liking white men. In general, Ellie and her dad are the only non-white characters in the movie, which is such a strange choice. Is that just what seattle is, or was this isolation a necessary simplification for the deep-rooted dissociation that goes on in a POC with a crush on a white person in high school. Paul is a straight white jock, i.e. Hollywood's default love interest/America's default high school heart throb. This movie did good for me in terms of "reverse representation"(?): seeing this type of guy be a genuine friend for an Asian gay nerd girl was strange in a good way, and made me think for the first time in a while that white men could be... friends.

OHSHC Back to School Shopping
We’re ignoring that Honey and Mori would’ve graduated. Another school year at Ouran Academy is about to begin! What are each of the Host Club members looking forward to buying?
Honey - A new lunchbox. His lunch boxes are fancy af. They are cute, they are kept cool, and they have incredible storage for all of his cakes and snacks. This year he tracked down a limited edition bunny lunch box, and he couldn’t stop talking about it and showing it off to the ladies.
Hikaru - Locker decorations. Hikaru’s locker is decked OUT! He has a mini disco ball, every type of magnet conceivable, a mini battery operated vacuum (that he does not use), a mirror, and even more locker gadgets my commoner mind cannot think of. Even Haruhi is impressed by his locker.
Tamaki - Back to school new clothes. He remembers going shopping for clothes with his mom when he was little, and he’s been chasing that high at the start of the school year ever since. Tamaki’s outfit choices are typically questionable at best, but that doesn’t stop him from going into every single store searching for clothes, love, and acceptance. He will walk out with one of those things.
Haruhi - New pens. Haruhi is resourceful and usually either repurposes things from previous years, but she’s weak when all of the pens are on display and on sale. She’s still looking for a replacement pen that’s as good as the one that the twins STOLE and then sold on the Host Club website.
Mori - Textbooks. While not the biggest reader in the world, Mori does enjoy the quiet process of getting his book list, ordering all of the textbooks, and then skimming through the pages to see what the next year will hold, as far as school is concerned. It’s an introspective process, and he’ll tell his pets what he’s looking forward to. Whoops, it might just be university students that buy textbooks… oh well.
Kaoru - New shoes. While he and Hikaru do end up matching a lot, it’s because Kaoru is the one to pick out what shoes they wear. He is a giant shoe enthusiast, something he probably got from his mother instead of her attention, and he will absolutely stand in overnight lines for the latest shoe fashion. Well… he’ll send somebody to do the actual standing in line, but he’ll send them snacks. Maybe.
Kyoya - Notebooks. He is VERY particular about his notebooks, the color of the paper, grid vs dot vs lined, the subject DOES influence that, the quality of the paper, the cover, wire spirals vs plastic vs staples, he’s VERY particular. Kyoya does use his laptop a lot, but for notes on the go? That’s all accounted for in his notebooks, so he has to have the most top quality of notebooks. He is also still on the look out for a Death Note but that’s a different conversation.
Bonus! Renge - Buying new anime folders. It doesn’t matter the time of the year, she can always validate buying them, but buying them at the beginning of the school year to pump herself up for her studies just feels extra right.

genshin!oc headcanons: renge
i've been wanting to use this oc somewhere for a while now and after playing yae mikos story quest i just thought that she'd fit really well in genshin! so have my little chaotic gremlin baby >:3 might make a proper oc profile for her like lian one day
(renge ref board)
Tumblr media
SO this kid (even though she's like a hundred years old) is half kitsune.
she's distantly related to miko from her kitsune side, but she calls miko auntie... old lady/hag if she's trying to annoy her. (she called her a witch once but miko immediately knew and punished her for that oof)
honestly she's the death of miko. an absolute handful, gives the yuuji gae a headache whenever she's around.
BUT as much as a little menace the half-kitsu is she's also the yae publishing house's ace card.
renge is an avid writer AND artist, very passionate about her works, and even introduced graphic novels/mangas to inazuma.
girl got tired of being hounded for manuscripts and having to go through editing and all that so she thought making it more visual-focused would help... boy was she wrong 💀
speaking of, renge is ALWAYS being hounded about deadlines, especially with miko being her dear lovely aunt and the owner of the publishing house :))))
renge didn't even have a choice in the matter miko was just like if you have nothing to do and no way to earn money you might as well make profit for the publishing house
(jk, miko just convinced renge that her work is actually good and that getting her works serialized would be a good way to share it, isn't she such a nice aunt?)
so if you find renge coming crying to you, the traveller, to help her hide from her aunt who's hunting for her, don't be surprised.
haven't played gorou's story quest, but i do know ms. hina is gorou, and i can imagine renge teasing gorou for it and never letting him live it down LOL well if she knows it's him, that is. if not, she'll make jokes saying "lol imagine if u were ms hina gorou-nii" while gorou sweats nervously
but at the same time gorou's her dependable older bro, but he's also the bro who falls victim to renge's scheming and puppy eyes to get what she wants
probably gets along with itto, being an absolutely chaotic and noisy duo and giving in to each other's childish antics. renge bullies him lovingly <3 also has a big bro/lil sis dynamic
mm apart from writing and drawing, renge loves street food, especially tomoki's stall with all his new food (she's a total foodie, give her food and she'll love you), and the color red :) she dislikes skirts/dresses (prefers hoodies with comfy pants), being lectured and told off, deadlines and when aunt miko gets mad
overall she's just a chaotic gremlin and a menace that just likes to enjoy life and have fun!
idk if she'd have a vision but if she did it'd probably be either pyro or anemo, weapon might be claymore or catalyst but with heizou's fighting style
