D.X. Ferris: Slayer 66 2/3: The Jeff and Dave Years [Postmortem, Remastered Edition, or How Fkin' Slayer Kicked Fkin' @ss] (2013)
That's the book cover!
No title, no explanation, horizontal band photo of ... SLAYER!!!
It may be unorthodox (because it is), imperfectly edited (spelling errors, etc.), and generally chaotic (chapter interruptions and asides abound), but that's precisely why D.X. Ferris' peculiarly named Slayer 66 2/3: The Jeff and Dave Years (later expanded to ... or How Fkin' Slayer Kicked Fkin' @ass for the Kindle edition) is so well-suited to its subject.
This book evolved from an installment of the popular 33 1/3 series dedicated to the classic Reign in Blood LP, and besides obviously covering the band's full career, it explores Ferris' thesis that Slayer ain't really Slayer without the oft-fired/rehired/fired Dave Lombardo and the sadly deceased Jeff Hanneman.
He's not wrong, and neither is this anarchic collection of formal and informal interviews, ancient anecdotes and references, and even rare artwork tracking Slayer from their humble beginnings to their glory days as arguably thrash metal's greatest, truest, purest institution -- certainly among the Big Four.
Far from an unbalanced fan account, it exposes and criticizes Lombardo's wavering commitment and meddling, complicated marriage, Hanneman's vices and deteriorating physical abilities, as well as Kerry King's blunt and intolerant leadership and Tom Araya's more laid-back demeanor but unclear allegiances and agendas.
Oh, and longtime drummer Paul Bostaph and other part-time replacements also get to have their say.
As for the book's raw and unconventional format, once again, there are surely more sensible, balanced, but also more superficial Slayer books out there that toe certain sensitive lines instead of crossing them, but who wants that sort of sanctioned bullshit?
Not me and not Ferris, whose devoted fandom is never in question, but who clearly doesn't care if he appeases or upsets his own subjects, and that only helps 66 2/3 reflect the unholy spirit of rebellion, excitement, aggression, mayhem, and general fuck-you-ness of Slayer.
Pardon me, I meant to say "FKN' SLAYER!!!"
p.s. -- You don't have to carve the band's name into your forearm with a razor blade to enjoy this book ... but it helps.

Slayer - Reign in Blood (1986)
El disco que prácticamente define un género: rápido, rapidísimo; duro, durísimo. Un asalto sónico furioso e imparable que sigue sonando como un cañón casi cuarenta años después.

It's been a while since the last metal-poll here on @music-addiction-disorder , for those interested... the last one was about "Metal Duets", 26 people voted and Lita Ford & Ozzy Osbourne won with 34,6 %. I've been tagged several times this week in different Slayer videos, that got me thinking it was about time for another poll. So, to all you Slayer fans out there i ask... "What's your favorite of these 10 Slayer albums"?
My all time favorite is "Show No Mercy", because style-wise it's one of a kind in their catalog and it still speaks to me even to this day.
youtube
Slayer was formed in 1981 by Los Angeles schoolmates and guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. Tom Araya soon joined on bass and vocals, and drummer Dave Lombardo joined last in 1982. They played in a style reminiscent of early Exodus, influenced heavily by Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, before their attendance at a mid-1982 Metallica concert convinced them to play faster and heavier.
youtube
The group's name is an acronym for "Satan Laughs As you Eternally Rot" as shown in the first press vinyl's runout of their debut album (also written in the back sleeve of Divine Intervention) and part of this referred in the lyrics of "live undead" song: "Laughing as you eternally rot, searching for human flesh and life's blood, Live Undead, Dead" from the album South Of Heaven.
In January 2018 the band announced the end of Slayer after a final tour which ended in November 2019.

BLASTING THEIR WAY THROUGH THE BOUNDARIES OF HELL, NO ONE CAN STOP THEM TONIGHT.
PIC INFO: Spotlight on dual lead guitarists Jeff Hanneman✝ and Kerry King of American thrash metal band SLAYER, shredding it up live at L’amour, Brooklyn, NYC, c. 1986. 📸: Jason Viteritti.
"Blasting our way through the boundaries of hell, No one can stop us tonight, We take on the world with hatred inside, Mayhem the reason we fight. Surviving the slaughters and killing we've lost, Then we return from the dead, Attacking once more now with twice as much strength, We conquer then move on ahead."

I’ve been very sad today. That’s because I’ve come to the conclusion that Armie won't be back to Hollywood. Too much time has passed and ppl are not invested in the truth, at least not right now.
Show business is a much different place now than it was like, back in the 1990s, maybe even 2000s. Being a weird, kinky person (think Angelina Jolie in the 90s with her blood oath wedding to Billy Bob Thornton) and/or a controversial person (think Marilyn Manson back in the day, or Madonna back in the day) is simply not acceptable now. We live in a time where ppl want you to be perfect and squeeky clean no matter what. Even rappers now seem to be very very careful in how they present themselves these days.
We went from a society that was beginning to be open about BDSM (50 Shades of Grey, anyone?) to a society that doesn't want to see or hear it. We went from a society that was cool with Woody Allen’s relationship with Soon Ye Previn to a society that sees the relationship as tantamount to incest! We went from a society where Rob Lowe was able to make a comeback even after spending time with a 16 year old young lady in Arkansas ( age of consent in that state then was 14-and I’m not condoning this ) where he would now be #metoo’d!
I honestly don't even know if most Armie haters truly believe the allegations against him, as they just love to see him suffer! They believed obviously faked DMs with impunity! They just don't like the fact that this straight white cis male from a wealthy background was able to go to Hollywood and make his dreams come true and they have to go to Patreon to beg for money to get their creative endeavors done ( nothing wrong with Patreon, BTW )!
I think the times have changed, and not for the better. We live in a world now where immaturity reigns! Yesterday’s blockbuster movies like Lawerence of Arabia make way for today’s blockbusters like Wonder Woman! We want everyone to be perfect like we did with our Mommy and Daddy! We no longer use phrases like ‘gourmet food connoisseur’ or ‘petite,’ we now use phrases like ‘foodie’ and ‘fun size’ in their place!
I really hurt for Armie. I wish he was born much earlier than 1986 ( maybe 1965 or 1931) where he could have been a brat packer in 80s Hollywood or a heartthrob in the same vein as his hero-Paul Newman in 50s Hollywood and beyond!
I do think, however, that Armie will be OK. I actually think he’ll be great! I do see him as a phoenix that rises above the ashes-just not in Hollywood in particular or acting in general. I see him as a businessman and a philanthropist!
I could be wrong-I am very open to that possibility. Hey, I thought that Mel Gibson was finished-and he wasn't! I thought Vanessa Williams was finished-and she wasn't! So, I am not ruling out a comeback completely. I am coming from a place where I believe that Hollywood is a full of shit hypocritical place that caters to various fandoms that have gotten more dysfunctional and entitled throughout the years. There is literally a TMFU Tumblr that has replaced Armie’s face as Illya with an unknown nondescript model on her site-I kid you not! There are many other examples like the psychotic Star Wars fans that hate George Lucas and see his creation as theirs!!
Well, I just had to vent I suppose. I would love for you guys to tell me what you think.
If you think I’m wrong-convince me!
Please convince me...
I’m always here :D
Take care.
