if you wanna write about one of the idv girls.......... alice deross and a reader who's also a journalist, perhaps working together?
you can wait till she releases ofc!!
📰
hi, sorry for it being so late, but sure yeah i'm open to writing idv girls! to be fully honest, i've never written for alice though (except for one occasion before her release...) but i can try for sure!
request; yes, by anon! requests are closed til i get my current requests taken care of but may open some comms?
wc; 730.
tags; default! journalist (alice deross), jounalist! gn! reader, work relationship, reader admires alice, canon-divergent, first person pov.
summary; an avid reader of alice's columns, you've wanted to be a journalist. and now that you are, for your first assignment, you are to work with alice deross...
rumors spread like wildfire, and this agency was no exception.
i had gotten my dream job as a journalist - since i was still in school, i had always admired a certain writer named alice deross, who wrote articles with a striking amount of detail, as if she herself had experienced what she was writing firsthand (even if such wasn’t the case), while still keeping a certain veil of mystery. that’s why i worked hard to get recruited into the same agency as ms. deross, networking and honing my writing.
and, to say the least, my first day was, indeed, filled with rumors.
rumors about what? why, of course, the famed oletus manor. it’s become a famous place for novelists to center horror stories around, seeing as many strange events are said to have happened there, yet they all seem so wild it’s hard to believe. “participate in a game for a chance to have your wish, no matter its grandness, granted.” who would believe such a thing? was my first thought.
yet, alice deross allegedly was passionate about this very case - everyone else was either scared to enter the unknown or uncertain whether it even existed or if it was a reality warped to exaggeration by the people who spread the rumors.
ms. deross, however, insisted on taking this case.
only she had the resolve to delve into the unknown and only she held such strong beliefs with eyes that could light a fire.
“surely there is something from this manor i can glean. i had prior connections to the manor, so it’s hard to believe such liveliness could be overtaken by these dangerous games,” she had declared to the head editor.
it appeared she had other motivations than producing a good story.
supposedly, it took quite a bit of convincing, but it was only after ms. deross went out of her way to obtain a manor invitation, the reddish wax seal bearing an abstract floral imprint, that the head editor (reluctantly, and much to his chagrin) accepted; clearly, ms. deross was adamant about this case, so as long as she could make a good story, who was he to say “no”?
...must have been what he thought.
i was curious about her said “other motivations” that i was nothing less than certain she held close to her heart, so with the head editor’s approval, i ventured to oletus manor, shrouded in mystery, with ms. deross. my first impression of her was what her writing style conveyed: polite, clear-spoken yet slightly distant. as they say, “style is the man himself,” i suppose.
in fact, i distinctly remember her first question: “i have been curious why you insist on going with me to oletus manor,” she said while i drove through the forested area, “it will likely be a dangerous gig.”
“yes,” i replied back (perhaps my voice betrayed me, for ms. deross shot me a look with a gleam of worry), “i’m fully aware.”
her look of worry diffused then into a wry smile.
“i don’t know whether you are courageous or reckless.”
“maybe both.”
“...regardless, i should warn you: curiosity can kill the cat. i do respect it though, seeing as you even volunteered to come with me.”
those were her last words as i remember parking up at the manor. it was then ms. deross seemed to change her demeanor considerably to the point of tangibility - i could practically taste it.
what had transpired at the manor was already reflected in her eyes before we had even entered its premises.
its happenings are a story for another day. a whole article wouldn’t be enough.
ms. deross handed me an envelope. “remember, (y/n), it is never too late to withdraw. i have a personal matter to settle here, but your life is what should be most important to you.”
she handed me a camera, the black lens reflecting my own face, revealing nothing but the truth at that moment laid bare. when i looked up at ms. deross, meeting her eyes, i couldn’t help but notice a more soft look than usual.
perhaps she had resigned to the fact that, since we both made it this far, i would not turn back now.
“after all, dead men tell no tales.”
(that said, i am alive even now, so for the future, i still have a tale to tell.)

In 2003, senior White House officials outed me as a covert CIA agent. They leaked my identity after my then-husband, U.S. Ambassador Joe Wilson, wrote an op-ed stating that the George W. Bush administration lied about the threat posed by Iraq ahead of its decision to invade the country.
I have spent a lot of time in the decades since processing the trauma of that experience. It endangered my assets, ended my covert career, and unsettled my family. Even events that happened much later took me back to that time, such as then-President Donald Trump’s 2018 pardon of Scooter Libby, former Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, who was convicted of perjury and lying to the FBI during its investigation into the leak. In those years, I was called a liar, a traitor, and—in the words of one Republican congressman—a “glorified secretary.”
Yet when I read journalist Liza Mundy’s new book, The Sisterhood: The Secret History of the Women at the CIA, uncomfortable memories came up that I had not grappled with since my time as a spy. The book touched me in ways I did not expect. I realized that I had mostly repressed the toll inflicted on me and my female colleagues from the many years of working in a man’s world.
When I was a child, the U.S. government passed Title IX, which prohibited sex-based discrimination in any school that received federal funding. By the time I was a teenager, my suburban Philadelphia high school had a variety of sports teams for me to choose from that were just as robust as what the boys had. I was fortunate to have parents who never suggested that my gender should dictate what I could pursue. In fact, my father made it a point to tell me that I could “do anything I wanted to, if I put my mind to it.” Even my college years passed in ignorance of the sexism ingrained in U.S. society.
Then, as a young woman, I joined the CIA. Suddenly, it became clear that the real world operated on a different set of principles.
The CIA that I entered at the height of the Cold War was very much a man’s world. The agency had only recently started to recruit women into intelligence operations, rather than into secretary positions and other support roles. A deep network of male officers still called the shots.
As I began the rigorous training to become a field operations officer, I looked around at the women already in the CIA. The more senior ones—none of whom were in the highest ranks—tended to be unmarried, childless, sometimes embittered, and tough as nails. Even then, I recognized that my opportunity to succeed came at the expense of their trailblazing.
I also knew I didn’t want to become like them. Couldn’t I be a successful officer and have a family? The terms “sexual harassment” and “gender discrimination,” much less “microaggression” and “unconscious bias,” had no meaning to my small cohort of female ops officers. We simply had to accept the casual misogyny that the agency’s alpha males tossed around.
Sometimes, it was explicit: My friend was told by her boss, the station chief at her first assignment in Africa, that she should go home, get married, and have a baby—and what the hell did she think she was doing in operations anyway? Other times, it was implicit: Promotions went to young male bucks over female colleagues who were just as successful in running and recruiting spies.
The contributions of female spies to the CIA—and the barriers they faced—are the focus of Mundy’s deeply researched and highly readable book. The Sisterhood starts off slowly, with a recap of women who entered the U.S. intelligence services during World War II. Thousands of women flocked to the job opportunities that the war opened up at the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the CIA’s predecessor, as men were sucked into the giant war-fighting machine. These OSS workers were among the first women in U.S. history to be formally recruited into intelligence work.
As Mundy recounts, these early recruits were told to report to an unassuming brownstone in Washington’s Foggy Bottom neighborhood. The men were instructed to change into Army fatigues in an attempt to strip them of social class, job, or military rank before the interview process. The women were taken to another room and asked to remove their coats and hats; since they were women, Mundy writes, “no further equalization was thought to be needed.”
Many of the women recruited into the OSS in the 1940s were highly educated, sophisticated, and multilingual. The test designed for female recruits assessed how well they could file papers. Yet once they were inside the agency, a few of these women moved into field intelligence operations. They demonstrated verve, bravery, and intellect at every turn as they set up effective spy rings, solicited intelligence from Nazi and other Axis officials, and passed important intelligence back to Washington.
After the war, a collective amnesia seemed to settle over Washington. As the country quickly forgot the vital role of women in the war effort, women were once again relegated to support jobs. The 1950s and 1960s looked something like Mad Men, where secretaries wore white gloves and pantyhose to the office and deferred to their male bosses. President Harry S. Truman established the CIA in 1947, but the agency did not begin to hire more than primarily white men with Ivy League degrees for another couple decades. It was not until the 1970s and 80s that it recruited women of equal intelligence, nerve, and—as my father would say—moxie to do clandestine work. I was a beneficiary of this sea change. I joined the CIA because I wanted to serve my country, it would get me overseas, and it seemed like it would be a lot more interesting than what my peers were doing.
Mundy’s book picks up steam as she delves deeper into the era when women were admitted, grudgingly, into the heart of secret CIA missions. She follows a few of them closely, including Lisa Manfull, a top student at Brown University from a cosmopolitan family, who was hired in 1968 to join the CIA’s career training program at a lower paygrade than male recruits. Manfull eventually became a successful clandestine operative despite higher-ups trying to keep her in desk jobs for years. Mundy also highlights fearsome agency legend Eloise Page, who started as a secretary to the OSS’s founder and became the CIA’s first female station chief in 1978.
Despite not being allowed to take the full operational courses at “The Farm,” the CIA training facility in Virginia, into the 1970s, these women proved their worth. They succeeded in work as varied as negotiating with terrorists who highjacked a plane in Malta and dealing adroitly with intelligence “walk-ins”—when a potential foreign agent shows up unexpectedly at an officer’s home or an embassy with promises to provide intelligence in return for something they desire.
The 1991 confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas were a catalyst for change. During the hearings, the all-white, all-male Senate Judiciary Committee listened as Anita Hill, a Black woman, calmly testified that Thomas had sexually harassed her a decade earlier. The Senate ultimately confirmed Thomas—and Hill faced criticism and death threats from the public—but the hearings brought a newfound awareness of gender-based discrimination to Washington. They influenced the election of 1992, which media outlets dubbed “The Year of the Woman” after a record number of women won seats in the Senate.
In 1992, the CIA also commissioned a “Glass Ceiling Study,” which found that men rose to much higher ranks than women in the organization. Women filled 40 percent of the agency’s professional positions but only 10 percent of the jobs in the Senior Intelligence Service, comprised of top agency executives. Mundy writes that female CIA employees responded to the study with a sense of relief—maybe, they thought, the agency’s culture would finally change. The men, by and large, seemed puzzled by it.
Then-CIA officer Janine Brookner sued the agency in 1994 for federal sex discrimination after being falsely accused of professional misconduct and threatened with a demotion and criminal sanctions. The lawsuit ended with a cash settlement and Brookner’s resignation. Brookner went on to law school and used her degree to specialize in federal discrimination cases. Around the same time, female case officers filed a class action suit, claiming that the CIA had a pattern of sex-based discrimination; in the 1995 settlement, Mundy recounts, the CIA admitted that it “discriminated systematically against its women secret agents for years,” as the Los Angeles Times reported at the time.
Mundy is at her sharpest when she writes about the women in Alec Station, a CIA unit that followed al Qaeda when few in Washington thought it was a threat. The analyst who led the unit, Mike Scheuer, filled his overlooked and underfunded team with women. Scheuer had no qualms about hiring women. As he told Mundy, women were “experts at minutiae, putting pieces of information together” that men might miss.
As the search for al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden intensified, the women tracking him diligently compiled intelligence, but the George W. Bush administration seemed to put their increasingly dire predictions on the back burner. On Aug. 6, 2001, CIA analyst Barbara Sude wrote a memo titled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US.” The Bush cabinet did not meet until Sept. 4, 2001, to discuss the threat. A week later, 9/11 happened.
The grief and guilt of the women who had warned the U.S. government for years about a potential attack is palpable in Mundy’s book. As one undercover case officer told Mundy, “For two years of my life, I was trying to do the right thing, and people died, and you felt like it was your fault. … And it really, it affected us a lot.” Their rage was channeled into the hunt for bin Laden that ultimately led to his capture.
Mundy’s book left me both inspired and disheartened. Many of the women in her book are now retired or dead. At great personal cost, they poured their lives into their intelligence careers. As I read it, I found myself empathizing with their hardships and remembering my own.
On the first day of my initial overseas assignment, I was told to go see the chief of station, a highly respected CIA officer. As I nervously entered his paneled office, he leaned back in his chair, feet on the massive wooden desk and unlit cigar in his mouth. He didn’t say anything to me. He merely took the cigar out of his mouth and motioned with it for me to turn around, a little twirl. Confused, I spun around and faced him again with a quizzical look. He broke into a smile. “Oh, you’ll do,” he said. I realized he was evaluating how I looked. It was crushing.
Thankfully, as Mundy shows, a lot has changed since then. Female CIA officers today have it better but still face quiet discrimination and barriers to success, as nearly all professional women do. Although the professional advances women have made are heartening, Mundy lets some women in the agency off the hook.
For instance, she glosses over the 2018 confirmation hearing of the CIA’s first female director, Gina Haspel, who admitted to a significant role in one of the agency’s darkest hours: the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques,” otherwise known as torture, in the aftermath of 9/11. The same can be said for Freda Bikowsky, an ex-CIA analyst known as the “queen of torture” who helped in bin Laden’s capture. I would have liked to see Mundy acknowledge that female officers in positions of power and responsibility—just like their male counterparts—have caused harm, exercised terrible judgement, and failed to mentor other women.
While Mundy’s book is a compelling and very good read, The Sisterhood is probably misnamed. It’s true that female CIA officers find comfort in their female friendships and can be supportive of each other as they advocate for equal rights in a male-dominated environment. But years of fighting for scraps—not just against their male counterparts, but against each other—has extracted a price. A climate of suspicion and unhealthy competition remains, and ultimately, this weakens U.S. national security.

🇮🇱🇵🇸 🚨 ISRAELI OCCUPATION FORCES READY TO ENTER GAZA
Israeli Occupation Forces have readied troops near the border with Gaza for an incursion into the Palestinian enclave and are now ready for a ground invasion.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant his troops on Thursday that they would soon see Gaza "from the inside" according to a press release.
"You see Gaza now from a distance, you will soon see it from inside. The command will come," Gallant told troops according to the press release.
The Israeli Defense Minister continued, “I see the determination, the spirit of battle, and above all, the motivation to carry out everything needed to defeat Hamas, to eliminate terrorist infrastructure, and to execute the mission as needed."
“I’m responsible for the defense establishment. I have been responsible for it for the past two weeks, during the difficult events as well. I am responsible for bringing it to victory in battle,” Gallant said
“We will be exact, sharp, deadly, and we will continue until we completely execute the mission,” he said.
On Friday, IDF spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner was asked in a television interview with CNN about the risks of a wider war breaking out, considering the lack of proportionality in the Israeli response to Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
"If this creates a wider conflict, we must be prepared for that. The IDF has recruited about 300,000 reservists to be prepared for the possibility that a wider conflict could arise," Lerner said.
According to reporting in the Russian State-owned News Agency Ria Novosti, Israel's ground invasion of the Gaza Strip will stand out for its "unprecedented ferocity" and will be unlike anything the rogue Jewish State has previously carried out in Palestinian territories.
According to the report, the IOF has plans to “destroy Gaza’s infrastructure even at the cost of large numbers of civilian casualties,” forcing the Palestinian population to the Egyptian border and use the opportunity to pursue Hamas and destroy its network of tunnels.
Israeli Occupation Forces launched Operation 'Iron Swords' in response to the Palestinian Resistance's October 7th attack, coined Operation Al-Aqsa Flood or Al-Aqsa Storm, depending on the translation.
Occupation Forces have fought for control over the settlements bordering the Gaza Strip and since retaking control, have launched non-stop barrages of air and missile strikes on civilian and governmental targets alike. Occupation Forces have also enforced a complete blockade on the Gaza Strip, blocking Humanitarian Aid from reaching Gazans along with blocking the enclave's access to food, water, medicine, electricity and fuel.
Thousands of Palestinians have been killed in the indiscriminate bombing by Occupation Forces and many thousands more have been wounded in the last week and a half with no signs the bombing will be halted anytime soon.
According to some sources, in excess of 100 Israelis are still being held hostage in the Gaza Strip by Palestinian Resistance Forces who hope to negotiate for the release of Palestinian prisoners. So far, there has been no sign that negotiations will be beginning in the near future.

“In a 30-minute video released on Friday, Mr. Prigozhin had described his country’s invasion of Ukraine as a ‘racket’ perpetrated by a corrupt elite chasing money and glory without concern for Russian lives.
He also accused the Russian minister of defense, Sergei K. Shoigu, of orchestrating a deadly attack with missiles and helicopters on camps to the rear of the Russian lines in Ukraine, where his soldiers of fortune were bivouacked. And he accused Mr. Shoigu of overseeing the strikes himself from the town of Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia, near Ukraine.
The mercenary leader’s claims could not be immediately verified. The Russian defense ministry denied the allegations, saying in a statement that the messages Mr. Prigozhin had posted about supposed strikes on Wagner camps ‘do not correspond to reality.’
Dmitri S. Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesman, said that Mr. Putin was ‘aware of all events around Prigozhin,’ according to Interfax, a Russian news agency.
Mr. Prigozhin’s accusations created a ripple effect among Russian pro-war activists, who fear that an open conflict between the army and Wagner forces could threaten the Russian front lines during the Ukrainian counteroffensive. In Ukraine, some viewed his statements as more evidence of internal divisions within the Russian war effort.
In an earlier videotaped speech, Mr. Prigozhin did not explicitly impugn Mr. Putin, instead casting him as a leader being misled by his officials. But in dismissing the Kremlin’s narrative that the invasion was a necessity for the Russian nation, Mr. Prigozhin went further than anyone in Russia’s security establishment in publicly challenging the wisdom of the war.
‘The war wasn’t needed to return Russian citizens to our bosom, nor to demilitarize or denazify Ukraine,’ Mr. Prigozhin said, referring to Mr. Putin’s initial justifications for the war. ‘The war was needed so that a bunch of animals could simply exult in glory.’
Friday’s diatribes deepened the enigma of Mr. Prigozhin’s ambiguous role in Mr. Putin’s system. His Wagner troops, composed of veteran fighters as well as thousands of convicts whom Mr. Prigozhin personally recruited from Russian prisons, proved key in capturing the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in May after a monthslong battle.
But, during the battle for Bakhmut, Mr. Prigozhin also emerged as a populist political figure, excoriating Russia’s military leadership for corruption. His angry recordings and videos posted to the Telegram messaging network cast top military and Kremlin officials as unaware and uncaring of the struggles of regular Russian soldiers.”

What is the hiring process like ramping up to production after pre-production for a triple aaa studio?
When we finish preproduction and move into production, we've essentially finished figuring out the bones of the game. We've got the outline for what we want to do, and the remaining task is filling in the gaps, putting flesh on the bones, and coloring in the blank spaces. These tasks, large and small, usually require additional help in order to finish. The leadership figures out how much work needs to be done to finish the game out, how much the team as it currently stands can do, and the difference represents how many additional people we will need to hire in order to finish the project.
The specifics determine the kind of roles we need to hire - the cinematics team might need several animators, the quest team might need two narrative designers and a gameplay engineer, the item art team might need a VFX artist and a technical artist, and so on and so forth. The needs of the project determine what kind of roles we need to fill. These requests then get sent up to the executive level for approval - they want to make sure the team isn't going to break the game's budget.
Once the openings are established and approved, it's up to the recruiting team to find candidates to fill the open positions. Usually this is a combination of recruiting events, reaching out to candidates on social media, posting to job boards, crawling LinkedIn networks, hiring external headhunters/staffing agencies, and collecting referrals from current employees. From there, the recruiters collect and vet candidate resumes. The recruiters then set up calls with promising candidates to gauge their interest in potential employment, answer basic questions that the candidate might have, and (assuming that the candidate wishes to proceed) [start the candidate process]. From there, depending on the availability and impressiveness of candidates, we start hiring developers and bringing them up to speed on how the work is done.

9 Effective Ways to Find New Job Opportunities (Plus Helpful Tips)
Searching for a new job can often feel overwhelming. With so many potential options and resources, it's hard to know where to start. However, taking a strategic approach and utilizing the right tools can make the process more manageable.
In this article, we'll explore nine effective ways to uncover exciting new career opportunities, along with helpful tips to set you up for success.
1. Leverage Your Network
One of the most powerful yet underutilized ways to find job leads is through your existing network. Contact friends, former colleagues, classmates, mentors, and professional connections to let them know you're looking.
Many open roles are filled through employee referrals before they are formally advertised. Your contacts may know of opportunities or be able to facilitate introductions. Attend industry events, join professional associations, and expand your network to gain more job search allies.
Helpful tips:
Formally ask your network to keep you in mind if they come across any job openings that may be a fit. Follow up periodically with reminders.
Share your resume and LinkedIn profile so contacts understand your background and can advocate for you.
Offer to return the favor if they conduct job searches now or in the future. Building reciprocal relationships is key.
2. Work With Recruiters and Staffing Agencies
Recruiters and staffing agencies can provide access to unadvertised job openings that employers want to be filled quickly by qualified candidates. Develop relationships with specialized recruiters in your industry, as they often have leads before positions are publicly posted.
Sign up with staffing agencies to gain temporary assignments that provide work experience and exposure to potential new employers.
Helpful tips:
When contacting recruiters, be clear on your skills, interests, and job search criteria so they can accurately match you with opportunities.
Check reviews and complaints before working with recruiters or agencies to ensure they are reputable.
Stay in regular touch with recruiters you build relationships with to get timely updates on potential jobs.
3. Search Online Job Boards
Online job boards like GradSiren are go-to starting points for many job seekers. They offer career opportunities like fresher jobs as per your relevant qualifications. You can search for jobs with relevant keywords like job titles and skills so you get alerts when new openings are posted that match your criteria.
Use advanced search options to filter by location, company, job type, and other factors to narrow down opportunities efficiently.
Helpful tips:
Tailor your resume to fit each job before applying through a board. Get through ATS systems with customized resumes.
Check niche and industry-specific job sites beyond the major boards for openings targeted to your field.
Follow up a week after applying if you have not heard back. Hiring processes take time, so gentle persistence pays off.
4. Visit Company Career Sites Directly
You may conduct proactive outreach by visiting the careers page on company sites of businesses you are interested in. This provides access to openings that may not be advertised elsewhere and shows initiative if you later interview for roles.
Follow companies on social media to learn about openings as soon as they are posted. You can also look at fast-growing startups in your city and check their sites for new opportunities.
Helpful tips:
Set up job alerts on the sites of your target companies so you never miss a new opening that's posted.
Research the company thoroughly before applying so you understand its mission and values to frame your application effectively.
If the company does not have current openings listed that fit, still inquire about sending your resume for consideration.
5. Attend Industry Conferences and Events
Industry conferences, trade shows, networking meetups, and seminars provide great opportunities to learn about job openings and make valuable connections. Attending these in-person events allows you to connect directly with hiring managers from potential employers.
Come prepared with resumes and your elevator pitch. Follow up afterwards with any promising contacts made.
Helpful tips:
Review the attendee list beforehand and note the companies you want to be sure to connect with during the event.
Strike up conversations at mixers and intermingle rather than just sticking with colleagues you already know.
Collect business cards and take notes about conversations to enable effective follow-up communication after the event.
6. Check Local Classified Ads
Believe it or not, the local newspaper classifieds section and community job boards can still be fruitful sources of leads on open positions. Neighborhood stores, medical offices, schools, nonprofits, and other community organizations still advertise openings this way.
For specialized roles, look for niche industry publications with classifieds focused on your field. The key is uncovering the right channel.
Helpful tips:
Follow up with a visit or phone call to introduce yourself and inquire further about any openings that interest you.
Ask if a printed ad is still current, as often positions are posted once but remain open for some time afterward.
Mention any personal connections you have to the business, neighborhood, or community when inquiring.
7. Take Advantage of Government Resources
Your local job club programs and state employment development department all offer invaluable services and job search resources. Government programs have access to nationwide, statewide, and local job listings beyond what you can find independently.
They also provide training, career counseling, networking groups, resume help, and more.
Helpful tips:
Sign up for customized job alerts based on your experience and desired positions, so potential matches are sent to your inbox.
Attend free workshops like resume writing, LinkedIn profile optimization, and interview skills to gain an edge.
Set appointments to review your resume and get strategic advice from job counselors. Their insights can provide a new perspective.
8. Volunteer Strategically
Volunteering not only allows you to give back but also can expand your professional network and lead to new career opportunities. Choose volunteer roles that let you utilize relevant skills and gain exposure to organizations related to your field.
For example, an accountant could volunteer to do financial tasks for a local nonprofit. The experience and connections gained can uncover potential job openings.
Helpful tips:
Align volunteer work as closely to your professional background as possible and exceed expectations to stand out.
Treat volunteering like a professional project. Document accomplishments for your resume.
Get introduced to decision-makers and build relationships with those who may eventually have hiring power or be able to recommend you.
9. Further Your Education
Enrolling in a certification program, professional development courses, or degree program exposes you to new job networks even as you build your skills. Your classmates, professors, school career centers, guest lecturers, and program alumni can all provide potential connections.
Many formal education programs also facilitate internships and placements.
Helpful tips:
Select continuing education programs strategically based on industries and roles you want to work in rather than just pursuing random interests.
Participate in campus career fairs, company information sessions, and networking events.
Proactively introduce yourself to classmates and engage with them. They will become future colleagues.
Set Yourself Up for Job Search Success
While it takes effort to uncover new career opportunities, utilizing the right techniques and tools can make your search productive and targeted. Explore online listings on niche job boards as well as directly on company sites. Take advantage of free government resources and consider strategic moves like volunteering and education to expand your options.
With a focused, proactive approach, you can find exciting new jobs and career possibilities. Determination, preparation, and persistence are key. So tap into the abundance of possibilities today to get started on your next great job opportunity.

In June 2023, a group of Finland’s most notorious neo-Nazis and a few of their international friends ventured to a lakeside cabin resort set against picturesque woodlands some 120 kilometres north of Helsinki.
They called the gathering ‘White Boy Summer Fest’ after an internet meme co-opted by far-right extremists. Bellingcat first investigated the phenomenon in 2021. Run by a far-right cultural collective and combat sports group, the event was first held last year, and organisers have indicated plans to make White Boy Summer Fest (WBS) an annual affair.
Over two days, attendees watched far-right bands perform, participated in combat sports, and mingled with other hate group members in hot tubs. Observers warn that neo-Nazi networks — including international ones like the Hammerskins, whose members attended WBS — use events like these to network, radicalise each other, recruit new members and raise money.
Organisers have successfully kept the locations of the 2022 and 2023 WBS events hidden from the public — until now. Thanks to Bellingcat’s Global Authentication Project (GAP) and burgeoning Discord community, we geolocated both events to rural accommodations belonging to Evo Nature Ltd, a hospitality company in southern Finland. According to its website, Evo has properties in 15 locations between Helsinki and Tampere and received approximately 30,000 customers in 2019.
When asked about the booking, Evo owner Kaj Järvinen told Bellingcat he had no knowledge of the events held by WBS and emphasised that his properties receive a large number of bookings each year.
“I have no clue whatsoever about these type of events. We have around 20 large rental properties. We receive more than 5,000 offer requests and around 1,000 group bookings on a yearly basis, and we do not ‘screen’ our customers if there are no obvious reasons visible.”
There is no suggestion that Evo broke any laws in renting out the property. Neo-Nazi groups in Finland have previously rented for-hire venues without the owner’s knowledge: for example a concert earlier this year was organised by the Jyväskylä branch of far-right network Blood and Honor at a leftist social club near the centre of the city.
In-person venues are nevertheless crucial to the neo-Nazi scene and related subcultures: Europol, the European Union (EU) law enforcement agency, noted they “place high value on physical meetings and group activities” in a report earlier this year.
The 2023 edition of WBS kicked off the evening of Friday, June 16. As photos posted by organisers on social media make clear, the spectacle was anything but subtle. Four Finnish neo-Nazi bands performed sets on a stage in a log cabin while flanked by two swastika banners. Some band members sported Nazi patches and symbols on their clothes and instruments.
In a video taken inside the cabin and posted by organisers, a flag of the international neo-Nazi network Blood & Honour hangs on a wall by the stage. As Bellingcat discussed in our investigation of European Fight Night in Hungary, Blood and Honour is banned in several European countries, including Germany and Spain. They were also listed as a terrorist organisation by the Canadian government in 2019.
Meanwhile, members of the domestic neo-Nazi group Crew 38 Finland attended WBS, according to their Telegram channel.
According to a report earlier this year by Finland’s public broadcaster, police documents suggest five men arrested in 2021 over suspicion of planning terrorist attacks were significantly influenced by Crew 38 Finland, and met frequently with some of its members.
Crew 38 Finland are also an affiliate of the international Hammerskins network. Founded in the late 1980s in Dallas, Texas, the Hammerskins are described as “the most violent and best-organised neo-Nazi skinhead group in the United States,” by the US-based Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
Nicolas Potter, a researcher at the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, a German NGO which works to combat racism and far-right extremism, warned EU policymakers in an address to the Council of Europe earlier this year that “classic neo-Nazi networks from the Hammerskins to Blood & Honour continue to forge international alliances,” adding “far-right rock festivals and Mixed Martial Arts tournaments serve as spaces of radicalisation, recruitment and fundraising.”
The weekend of events was about more than just music; participants could sit in the sauna, get a tattoo and buy clothes from extremist brands (some of which feature in our 2022 investigation of far-right fashion).
They could also watch a series of combat sports fights put on by Veren Laki (‘Law of Blood’), one of the event’s co-organisers. According to Tommi Kotonen, an expert on far-right extremism in Finland, Veren Laki is linked to the Finnish branch of the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement (Finnish acronym PVL). The country’s highest court issued a temporary ban against the group in 2019 due to its spreading of hate speech and use of violence.
Veren Laki is linked to other similar groups internationally that focus on combat sports and training for physical confrontation. According to the organisation’s Telegram channel, a fighter from Veren Laki fought at the far-right combat sports event European Fight Night in Hungary in May 2023. At WBS 2023, photos show several fighters wearing equipment from Pride France, a brand run by French neo-Nazi Tomasz Szkatulski. Currently based in Sofia, Bulgaria, Szkatulski posted on his Telegram channel that he was banned from entering Germany for ten years in July 2023.
The fights outside were followed by another indoor concert. Four bands, including two from Italy, took to the now swastika-free stage to play. Green Arrows, an Italian band popular across Europe’s far-right extremist music scenes, headlined. Green Arrows has publicly declared their support for Italy’s neo-fascist CasaPound movement — the movement’s flag adorned the stage during their set.
But where exactly did all of this take place? Upon seeing photos and video of the event, one of Bellingcat’s volunteers who is based in Finland thought the location looked familiar and began to investigate.
Suspecting it was one of a series of rentable rural cottages in the southern Finnish Lakeland, he soon found a possible venue location on Google Maps.
Open source techniques confirmed his suspicion. He later realised he had been to the location as part of a routine work retreat. A comparison of photos and a video shared by WBS organisers with images of the property posted on Evo’s website confirmed the location of WBS 2023 — a log cabin in the Hämeenlinna region described as an “atmospheric event space” with a small stage and room for 100 people. The barn is part of a seven-acre rental complex with villa apartments, three hot tubs and a lakeside sauna. The site, which is advertised for corporate retreats and family holidays, is approximately a two-hour drive from Finland’s capital, Helsinki, and 90 minutes from Tampere, Finland’s second-largest urban area. Photos of the venue from the owner’s website showed a room whose wooden beams match those seen in photos of a musical performance during WBS 2023.
Furthermore, the pattern observed on a wooden beam as well as the gaps in the wood of the log cabin matches photos of the cabin on the accommodation website with those in a photo posted by WBS participants.
But what about the previous year’s “festivities” at WBS 2022?
One of the organisers’ Telegram channels outlined to attendees that the 2023 location wasn’t the same as in 2022, but “about a 15-minute drive from last year’s location.”
Searching for similar rentable rural venues in the vicinity of the 2023 event, Bellingcat found the location of the 2022 event — a small villa of red-sided cabins owned by the same hospitality company.
While WBS organisers have announced plans for a 2024 edition, it is unclear if a venue has been chosen. One thing is clear: the value of gatherings like these to the far-right organisations.
Not only do they provide groups a chance to share and promote their ideology, the Financial Action Task Force, the Paris-based global money-laundering watchdog, said in a 2021 report that “most of the funding for extreme right-wing groups appears to come from licit sources” including concert organising and merchandise sales.
