Booklover problems
Am I the only one facing this?
"Why do I always seem to finish a book in half an hour when I waited an entire year for it to come out? Now what do I do? Ugh--"

Reading—a personal odyssey, whether in the sanctuary of solitude or amidst the symphony of the outside world. 📖✨ Here’s a cozy corner in bed, a private haven for words to unfold in silence; and there, a park bench under open skies, where the pages whisper along with the rustle of leaves. Each setting has its own magic, its own rhythm. So tell me, fellow book travelers, where does your reading heart feel most at home? Is it in the quiet, personal retreats where stories become intimate friends? Or do you thrive on the ambient energy of public spaces, letting the world become a backdrop to epic tales? Share your preferred reading habitat and why!

Summer Vacations? It's time to hone your child’s reading skills!
Reading stimulates the mind and helps in children’s mental wellbeing
‘Summer Vacations! Holidays!’ Wow, what a great sense of relief it used to offer from hectic life of school, classes and tests-assignments. Come summer vacations and parents frown on the very thought of their children glued to TV/Mobile sets with non stop and endless views to Soap operas, Mobile games and endless Youtube or Social Media sites.
During our time of schooldays, we too relived similar moments but then that was not an era of internet, no AI nor were there any 24*7 Cable TV network/endless reality shows leaving us with no option but to visit homes of grandparents, read comics, play outdoor games(cricket, hide n seek especially) and make friends. Except touching our books or feeling nervy about finishing home assignments on time, our fun and enjoying quotient never had any bounds. We too used to get bored but then as per words of Bertrand Russell “A certain power of enduring boredom is therefore essential to a happy life, and is one of the things that ought to be taught to the young.”
Tumblr media
But after the summer vacations are over, going back to the school routine may become challenging for children. In that case, parents can help children bridge the gap?
Tumblr media
Reading is a habit, which not only helps children learn without being bored but also helps expand their mind and imagination. The answer lies in inculcating reading skills for the given benefits it offers:
Improves knowledge- Reading improves a child’s knowledge and different kinds of books lead to a broader repertoire.
Improves comprehension- Children are naturally curious and very smart. They ask unique questions and interpret books in their own way.
Improves memory skills- Books help the child imbibe information. If the books happen to be in an illustrated or graphic novel format, the child will find it much easier to read and remember.
Improves self-esteem- Apart from increasing knowledge, it helps a child understand the world a little better and a somewhat differently. This in turn improves children’s self-esteem, making them stronger individuals.

Incase your child, does not show interest in reading, then try opting for books in a comic format or graphic novels to create an interest. This will not only help teach the child time management but also to deal with boredom in a effective manner and reduce their dependence on gadgets for entertainment.
Shake off your child’s holiday enjoyment and make them ready for studies and homework once again.

UK Enchants Malaysian Students with Literary Magic
Tumblr media
A Celebration of British Creativity
The 'GREAT Stories School Tour 2024' has successfully concluded, leaving a lasting impression of the UK's rich literary tradition on Malaysian primary students. This unique initiative, a collaboration between the British High Commission, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), and the Ministry of Education, aimed to ignite a passion for reading and introduce the students to the wonders of British literature and theatre.   Bringing Books to Life At the heart of the tour was the GREAT Stories Mobile Library, a traveling collection of English storybooks that visited five primary schools across Kuala Lumpur. This mobile library opened up a world of adventure, mystery, and history, allowing students to immerse themselves in the depth of English literature firsthand.
Shakespeare for the Young
The Kuala Lumpur Shakespeare Players added a theatrical dimension to the tour with their engaging and interactive sessions. They captivated the young audience with an adapted rendition of Shakespeare's "Macbeth," making the Bard's complex themes accessible and enjoyable for children.   A High Commissioner's Tale The campaign was officially launched by Her Excellency Ailsa Terry, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, with a heartwarming story-reading session at the Perpustakaan Kuala Lumpur. Her visit to Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih (SBJK) in Chow Kit was a highlight, where she shared her favorite British children’s book, leaving a donation of new books to enrich the school's library.
The Power of Storytelling
Her Excellency Ailsa Terry emphasized the enduring legacy of British stories, from "Harry Potter" to "The Lord of the Rings," as vital to the UK's cultural heritage. She expressed enthusiasm for sharing these treasures with Malaysian youth, underscoring the importance of storytelling in fostering empathy, understanding, and cultural exchange.   A Lasting Impact The 'GREAT Stories School Tour 2024' has set a precedent for cultural diplomacy, using literature and theatre as bridges between nations. It not only promoted good reading habits among Malaysian students but also offered them a glimpse into the UK's storied past and vibrant present.
A Future Full of Stories
As the curtains close on this year's tour, the seeds of imagination and curiosity planted in the hearts of young Malaysians promise to grow. The UK's commitment to enriching the lives of children through literature and theatre continues to strengthen international bonds and inspire the next generation of readers and thinkers.   Sources: THX News & British High Commission Kuala Lumpur.
