Hi! This is a bit out of nowhere but I wandered here from your AO3 account and wanted to let you know that I really love your KHR fic! The way you write the group dynamics is my favorite in general across all of them, but I'm especially in love the way you handle Lussuria and Belphegor in your Superhero verse. Whether I'm interested in the Varia depends entirely on who's writing them, and you hands down write my favorite Varia.
Hello and welcome to the madness!
Thank you so much for your lovely message. I love writing this series in particular (next to how way leads on to way and the this compass never pointed north series it’s probably my favorite atm) so it just makes my day when I hear someone else enjoys it too :)
And okay, I have a serious weakness for the Varia and adore writing them in this world, so I’m glad you like this take of them! It might take a while but I absolutely plan to add a few side-stories that will focus more on them. Lussuria definitely deserves his own fic, I just haven’t come up with the right plot for it yet. And Bel, Bel refuses to be left out of the main story, as can only be expected of the Prince.
As a fellow Varia-fan, do you know the fics by Umei_no_Mai? Because I love the deep-dive they take into Varia culture, the world-building is just *chef kiss*. I think my favorites are Obscured by Clouds for Timoteo’s well-deserved comeuppance and everything Varia, though The King is Dead (Long Live the King) is a close second. That one focuses less on the Varia though. Fair warning from someone who usually prefers Tsuna-centric fics: Tsuna is dead in the latter and plays almost no role in the former, but the in-depth exploration of those alternate scenarios more than makes up for it in my opinion.
If you have any fic recs, I‘d love to hear them!

I'm begging you, please stop italicising te reo Māori words in your fics.
There's a really excellent article by Khairani Barokka on why italicising non-English words in general is not a great idea. (tl;dr: it's very othering)
For te reo there's an additional reason, which is that most of us in Aotearoa stopped italicising te reo decades ago and now when we see it it looks fucking weird. It feels like you're holding the word with tongs; like you're saying "hey I found this weird foreign word and I don't really know what to do with it!"
Which is a pity, because there's some really good fics out there exploring Ed's Māori identity, and the italicising makes them look less good than they are. (I'm planning a specific recs post, but want it to be 100% positive, also there's stuff I haven't read yet.)
I don't want this to be a call out post, because I hate that shit, and I know that everyone's coming from a good place. If you've been italicising te reo words, you're probably doing what you were taught was the right thing, and I genuinely don't want you to feel bad about it. This is just a learning experience; go forth and use italics as they should be used in fan fiction:
"Oh. Oh."
PS I can't write about italicisation and te reo without mentioning the brilliant Alice Te Punga Somerville and the especially her poem Kupu rere kē.

Top 5 Favorite Time Travel Fics You’re Prepared To Defend To Death
Full disclosure, I absolutely adore the time travel trope. I have yet to meet a fandom where I didn’t enjoy it and the MCU is no exception. Especially since -- let’s face it -- it’s not like there’s a lack of issues that need fixing. Nor is it out of the realm of possibilities, in-universe-wise. I do my best to avoid spoilers, but that isn’t completely possible.
Here are, in no particular order, my favorite gems of the lot:
#1: If You Had This Time Again by dls
Tony Stark closed his eyes in a wrecked Siberian bunker and woke up on a demolished New York street. Four years earlier.
There are many, many reasons why I adore this fic and I promise it’s not just because I have a huge weakness for long stories (which, by the way, dls has my utmost respect for writing so much so well, seriously and their posting schedule is something I can only dream off). The changes Tony inevitably causes, big and small, immediate and over time, are wonderfully done.  But I think my favorite part is the way the author takes time to develop Tony’s relationships. The way Tony builds his family this time (in true Tony fashion both accidentally and on purpose) and particularly his friendship with Pepper are things I cherish.
The main pairing is FrostIron, which isn’t for everyone, but I personally love it and damn if it doesn’t work well in this fic. Their interactions had me on the edge of my seat right from the beginning, wanting more and at the same time knowing that the wait would make it all the sweeter. I could list more things, but I don’t want to spoil anything. I also haven’t read everything yet -- for that matter, the fic is incomplete at the moment -- because I occasionally lose track of this beauty during stressful times and then go back and re-read everything from the start. So far, I haven’t regretted that a single time and I know I’m going back to this fic again soon.
#2: We'll Meet Again (Some Sunny Day) by @tangodancer91
Stranded in the past, Toni Stark builds herself a new life, far from superheroes and corporate expectations.
Reading this series is both, the best choice and the greatest mistake I ever made. Mostly because it is wonderfully woven, heartbreaking and -shredding mess of angst -- also because it’s incomplete. I’m still waiting for my happy ending here *pouts*
Seriously though, the series handles the interactions between a post!CW Toni and a 40s-Bucky-and-Steve, the developing relationship between Toni and Bucky, the inevitability of the ever-looming future events ARSIDLSLKSjksadkls!!! This fic just gives me so. many. feels. and I swear Build, Now, a Monument delivered everything I expected after the previous parts, killed what was left of my heart and was so freaking amazing that I had to re-read it despite the pain I knew it was going to cause me. What is it about angst that draws me in like this? I’d seriously like to know.
Anyway, whether the series will be finished or not, I assure you it’s absolutely worth reading. Just-- try not to let bitterness and tears swallow you whole while you do that.
#3: Seize Yesterday by DannieU
In 2017 the Earth is about to end. In 1987 Howard Stark might have the answer. The solution seems simple, except Tony has the worst of luck, and he might just be stuck.
In which Tony hates magic, time travel, babysitting amnesiac assassins and being seventeen.
Another favorite of mine. I really enjoyed the plot in this one -- and of course the WinterIron. But don’t let the summary fool you, the key words are indeed ‘worst of luck’. Which means that, yes, this another mess of angst and heartbreak. So much angst and heartbreak. I’d say the ending more than makes up for it, but to tell the truth I was still reeling from the emotional rollercoaster and couldn’t properly enjoy it. I also really liked the thing with Natasha (you’ll know what I mean) which I’d never seen done in a fic before (though I’m pretty sure there are others out there, I just haven’t seen them yet.)
Overall, it’s a great fic -- and contrary to the first two this one is finished -- and I definitely recommend it.
#4: Anew. by @ivivao3
In death, there was no glory, no redemption, no salvation.
Only darkness and ice—or that’s what Tony thought. He closed his eyes in a Siberian bunker and opened them again on his 41st birthday, with War Machine flying into the distance.
This one is for you IronStrange fans out there! (And I know for a fact that you are out there, guys, denial is futile!) There are two obvious reasons why I remember loving this fic, even though it’s been a while since I’ve read it. One thing is indeed Tony and Stephen. The other is JARVIS. Also seeing Tony say “Go. Save. Yourself.” was incredibly satisfying, therapeutic and honestly couldn’t have happened to a more deserving guy (okay, there might be a couple more on the list, but it’s a start!!)
Anyways, the fic is completed and there’s also a sequel, though that one is still ongoing. Enjoy :)
#5: Veni, Vidi, Amavi by Maedlin
(We came, we saw, we loved.)
Tony's not the hero type. To suggest otherwise would be outlandish and fantastic, clearly.
Yet somehow, he's the one that's responsible for saving the universe. Now, he's a decade in the past. He's just revealed to the world he's Iron Man. Tony finds himself facing dozens of old problems, and as time passes the ripple effect of his presence generates ever more new issues.
All the while, the impending threat of Thanos looms ever-closer.
(Or: how I becomes we and Tony learns that not all burdens must be shouldered alone.)
Truth be told, I might be getting ahead of myself here, since I haven’t actually finished this fic yet. Oops. Still, it’s time travel and also it includes bot feels. (And yes, I’m counting JARVIS as a bot in this scenario, just let me, okay.) I’ve really enjoyed the chapters I’ve read so far, which is really enough to warrant a place on this list *shrug*. The story is also finished and has a still on-going sequel.
*
Obviously these aren’t the only great time travel fanfics, so if you have a favorite that hasn’t been added, please feel free to join the Top 5 Fanfic Saturday or just add it in a comment/reblog.
Btw what do you think about time travel?

The fact that he looks at the piece and goes: hmm noice. Lemme buy this real quick
Tumblr media
For your open requests! What about something cute like you’re doing your makeup or shopping and Chris doesn’t totally understand and you have to explain him certain things and he’s like “oohhh wowow” and just him being in awe and in love wth his girl🥺😌
Sorry, this is kinda trash
-
"This is 450$," the employee stated, giving you a tight lipped smile as you looked at the bracelet in the box, a smile on your lips as you looked up at Chris.
"Why is it so expensive?" He asked you lowly, trying to not let the guy hear him.
"There are diamonds in it, and obviously it's from a very famous brand," you explained, letting your hands touch the cold jewellery.
"Ohh, okay," he nodded, taking one last look at the piece before buying it for you, even after you told him to forget about it.
"I gotta spoil my girl, every once in a while," he mumbled while getting ice cream, making you shake your head with a giggle.
"Liar, you always spoil me,"

fic recs pls 🥺
Well, I rerely read English fics, so I can't recommend much. But I've read these fics
1. Seducing Tobirama series by @phlebaswrites Many of their fics are cute and always surprise me XD
2. Dear Agony An AU Werewolf Senju and Hunter Uchiha. Still not finish (and I still hope the writer will come back in someday.) This fic made me understand the meaning of sentence that "Bad boy aren't good, but good boy aren't fun."
3. Under the Cherry Blossom Tobiizu Lovely story. So soft, so sweet and so cute. Like.... If reading fics can increase blood sugar levels, I assure that when finish reading this fic will be diabetic.
Um... I've no any idea.😅 Hope you enjoy.

erm, i don no if that would come across as creepy or not, but not only have i rered your fic but multiple times x'D *hides* I definitely enjoy the other stories! my favorite has to be cresendo. DJ YUGI AND ATEM PINING ON ONE ANOTHER I CAN'T-. Currently i'm reading "lessons in fear" from your rec and mannnn you right about the creepiness elements of it. Its such a chilling fun read.
Hey fic recs are an amazing thing! I’m honored that you would rec my fic to people and that you are checking out my rec list of other authors and stories I enjoyed. I think people should rec fic more often. There’s nothing creepy about it and no reason to feel ashamed.
I’m so glad that my fic rec list has been useful. I love recommending stories that left a lasting impression on me. And I hope others can enjoy the stories as much as I did.
I agree with you, Cresendo is a great oneshot. It’s one of the few fics I’ve read more than once. Kudalyn is a very talented author.
And ooooo, Lessons in Fear, that one was such a delight to read. It scratched some of my horror itches. Definitely had great suspense and atmosphere. Milessqueak did amazing work with that one.

Because you can never have too many fic recs, here's three great fanfics I've read or re-read recently:
Come Together by @mhwrightwrites (Katekyou Hitman Reborn, multi-chaptered, incomplete): I adore pretty much everything about this fic. From the way the author approached the Tsuna-has-a-brother trope to the relationship between Kyoya and Tsuna in this which is just chef's kiss, let me tell you. Just. Hibari is simultaneously so in-character and also grows so much. As does Tsuna. And it's one of those fics you can absolutely read even if you aren't really into any romances. Also I adore Takeshi in this. The fic isn't finished, but that doesn't make it any less of an enjoyable read.
The Sum of Their Parts by holdmybeer (Harry Potter, multi-chaptered, complete): I adore this fic. And not just because it gives us a rising Dark Lord Harry with supportive Ron and Hermione by his side either, but because I consider it a much more realistic look at the fallout after Book 7 (ignoring the epilogue like I often do). Like the fact that Voldemort's death didn't magically fix the entire corrupt system. It's also gen which I really appreciate. And a couple of Flitwick's quotes just about gutted me. But anyway, I'm fine.
silver bird by greeneyedfirework (DC, Oneshot): I'm an absolute sucker for the enemy-to-caretaker trope. And this one -- an AU with werewolf!Slade and Mage!Dick -- is a beautiful example of that trope. The whump. The miscommunication. Slade's viciousness. The resolution. I just love their interactions in this fic.

hiii 🥰 2, 6 and 23 for the books ask 💕
hiiii 🥰
2. Did you reread anything? What?
yes yes yes yes!!!! I've actually reread a lot (when you do a ratio of reread/how many books read i think, idk i don't do maths) 🤔 I'm gonna make a little list:
- Murder on the Orient-Express, by Agatha Christie A classic I had read when I was in high school. I remembered the big plot twist, so it was super interesting to reread it knowing it (and nothing else bc I have a shitty plot memory).
- Détective Conan, by Gosho Aoyama I've started rereading them in late 2020, so in 2021 I've read from vol 20 to 78. I've been having so much fun it's sooo good 😭 my bro is also reading them we can be obsessed together 💕 I'm only at vol 78 by now, bc the scans I was reading changed? like the french is now fansub, and I can't read their typography lol. So I gotta read in english, and it's weird to read this manga from my childhood in english, and I also struggle more to understand the cases 😔 I'm taking my time, but it's there, always in the back of my mind!
edit: the reread is only up until vol 50 or so, with a big lapse between 23 and 51 bc that's the vol I owned
- THE HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY, by Suzanne Collins 💕 Loved loved loved loved loved going back into it!!! I had read it at least three times already, but I hadn't in a few years and idk I felt like it. I didn't plan to, but I took the opportunity to read the prequel as well.
Fascinated bc, well for once I do remember a lot of the plot, but I still rediscovered a lot (with a lot of "wait I thought it went [smth which was changed in the movies]"). But especially when it came to the whole political ideas, like I'm way more political than I was when I've read it before, so I was able to think more about that part of the books. I also had a whole new view on it bc I'm not close to Katniss' age anymore, and I was going "she's so young leave her alone" all along 💀
Masterpiece writing truly Suzanne Collins GETS IT soooo much. And it's not the question but people who gave the prequel two stars on goodreads do NOT get it they can't read imo. All her choices are so deliberate I'm truly amazed it's beautiful, she knows what she's doing!! I was a bit frustrated by the end bc we don't know what the political state is by that point, and I was so curious. But I had to remember that it wasn't the point of the trilogy, not really. It makes sense, it's just a bit frustrating bc I have so many questions about it.
.
6. Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?
I wanted to (rere)reread Six of Crows, by Leigh Bardugo as well, but I know I'll get obsessed so I had to wait. I was already taken by spn, detective conan, and thg, and I was supposed to finish my master 😂
I wanted to read, finally, Les Orageuses, by Marcia Burnier. It's about anger & feminism, it was rec to me by a friend bc it's 100% my vibe. But it's one of these books I'm waiting for the Right Time for, and it wasn't this year.
And the book my big bro got me for my bday it seems soooo cool but I wanted to wait until my master to be done to read it! It's Sur les ossements des morts, by Olga Tokarczuk. It's likely there's an english title somewhere bc it got a Nobel prize, but it's a polish book so it won't be the original title who cares lmao. There's so much in this book deep with meaning I can't believe my bro found that, there's a murder, the main character is into astrology, it's a polish book, it's written by a feminist, and the cover is stunning 🥺🥺 I can't wait to get into it!!!
.
23. What’s the fastest time it took you to read a book?
Oh well, an afternoon? 😂 It was a book about gender stuff, but pretty basic, it's about giving notions. I've read it when I was planning an intervention around these topics for work, bc my brain is so academical I struggle to write easy definition for some concept so I needed to get back to a "beginner" level.
It was Beyoncé est-elle féministe?, by Osez le féminisme ! and it's so liberal and racist 😭 I didn't know it was written by this collective when I read it, otherwise I'm not sure I would have bother. They contradict themselves from one page to another, and I'm not over a racist drawing in like, p30 or smth 💀
Otherwise I was a slow reader this year, I may have took 3 days for some books, but overall going more around one week.
end-of-year book ask

A single knock immediately followed by a bellowing, “Helloooooooooooooo, Sides!” shocked Patton from his quiet evening of binging Parks and Recreation on the couch.
“Well, you’re early today!” Patton smiled and stood to greet the embodiment of sleep as he burst into the MindScape, sipping from the reusable Starbucks cup Roman had conjured for him.
“Yeah, planning a big night.” Remy took a large gulp from his drink before continuing. “First I’m gonna go bug Little Wernicke to get him to tell me about language stuff.” Remy took another sip. “Then, I gotta go visit Ol’ Ponyo (he hates when I call him that) to get Logan’s whole ‘sleep schedule’ thing sorted, and then I’m-”
“Hey, Remy, are you okay? You sound like you ran here.”
Remy cut off his current sip and replied, “Whaddyou mean? I’m fine! Just excited for tonight is all.”
“Are you sure? You sound breathless-”
“So anyway, I showed up because I have nooooo idea when I’ll be back, and I didn’t want you sending the snake or freaky Rere to hunt me down for bed time.” Remy took another sip.
“We never sent them-”
“Well, relay the message anyway. Keep. Away.” Remy took multiple sips from the cup as he turned from Patton. “Tata, Papa-”
“Wait! Don’t I get a hug?” Patton reached out beckoningly and wiggled his eyebrows.
“Uh, sure, I guess? Anything for you, Peachy Pat.” Remy crossed to Patton and lightly wrapped his arms around the Moral Side who squeezed him in return before swiftly leaning up to kiss his forehead.
“Oooo you’re hot!”
“Well, I know, but I definitely didn’t expect-”
“No, literally, Remy; you’re sweating.”
Genuine confusion overtook Remy’s features. “But I’m freezing-”
“Have you looked in a mirror recently?”
Remy gawked.
“No, not like that. Wow. I’m sorry. You’re just very, very rosy cheeked, Remy, and not in a cute way.”
Remy gaped indignantly. “I am always cute-”
“Remy, are you sick?”
“No, of course not!”
“Remy.”
“Seriously, I’m Sleep. How could I get sick?”
“Look, I don’t know the fancy details of it, but I know Lo, Ro, and Vee have been sick before from like...working too hard, so I’m sure you could get sick, too!”
“That’s ridiculous! I’m not like the rest of you!”
“Remy. You’re sick.” Patton slipped around Remy to shut and seal the MindScape door. “You need to rest and get better. Stay in for a night.”
“Patton. I’m fine.” Remy bit out.
“Then why are you drinking so much? Thirsty? Or is your throat not doing so well?”
Remy swallowed thickly and pulled the straw from his lips. “I just...you know I love coffee.”
“You don’t smell like coffee. I don’t see anything dark coming up that straw. That’s pure water. You know you’re sick, Rem; please, just stay here!”
“I told you, Pat; I have plans tonight! Important ones to help our Resident Brain, too!”
“Cancel them. Logan will understand.”
“Patton. I’m going, and you can’t make me stay here.”
“Oh, you wanna bet?”
Remy had never seen such a dark, nearly wicked look overtake Patton’s features, but he had no time to process before the other was coming at him.
•••••••••••
Strangely enough, finding Patton forcibly wrapping Remy in a blanket wasn’t the oddest thing Logan, Roman, and Virgil had ever come across. They stared for a moment in a mixture of confusion, amusement, and concern from their various positions on the stairs, having been coaxed out of their respective rooms by Remy’s shouts of protest.
“Uh, Patton?” Virgil called from his spot on the topmost step, brow quirked and a frown on his lips. “What are you doing?”
“Why are you preparing a Remy Blanket Burrito, Padre?” Roman chimed in from the bottommost step.
“Guys!” Remy gasped dramatically, now fully wrapped and perched on the couch. “Thank GOODness you’re here! Save me from this MAD man!!”
“Oh, Rem, you’re fine.” Patton scoffed lightly as he pushed himself off of the embodiment of sleep, clapping his hands together in a satisfied fashion before giving Remy a light pat on what was probably his leg. “Well, actually, you’re not fine, and that’s why I had to get you all nice and swaddled up!”
“What is the matter with Remy?” Logan asked abruptly, eying Sleep carefully.
“Nothing!!!” Remy screeched indignantly; if he could, he’d likely cross his arms and slouch in pouting protest. “I’m perfectly fine, but your father figure over here has decided that I’m sick.”
“You ARE sick, Remy!” Patton cut in. “You have a fever!”
“That’s ridiculous! I’m Sleep; not human!”
“But you’re part of one!” Patton retorted while retreating toward the kitchen. “And you need to get better! I’ll be right back!”
“Is Thomas sick?” Virgil piped up in a tenser tone.
“Not that I am aware of.” Logan reassured him. “But I believe as we can experience illness due to burnout, Sleep could conceivably experience the same if Thomas is not resting adequately.”
“I definitely wouldn’t say he’s been chummy with the Sandman as of late.” Roman muttered, rubbing at his own eyes.
“I’m not sick! I can’t get sick! Thomas has adjusted to his...unique sleeping habits, and so have I!” Remy’s voice faded into a rasp at the end of his terse tirade, drawing looks from the three Sides.
“You sound rough, Rem.” Virgil gave him a soft, sad smile. “Please give it a rest and let Patton take care of you. Give me one less thing to worry about for once.”
Remy sighed loudly and threw his head to the side. “Fine. Only for you, my nightly nuisance. You keep me busy, but I’ll give you a break.” Remy huffed, side-eying Virgil.
“Promise?”
“Oh my god, are we five?” Remy’s eye roll and Virgil’s intense stare created a tangible tension, neither speaking as one finally cracked under the other. “FINE. Yes. Yes, yes, I can promise to let myself be sick and taken care of and whatever other junk.”
“Good.” Virgil turned back toward his room.
“What? You’re not going to keep me company?”
“Nah, man. Snarky you I can do, but this whiny version of you gets my heart feeling uncomfortable.” Virgil pats over his heart before climbing the stairs.
“But you don’t really have a-”
“Please take care of yourself.” Logan interrupted. “We need you in peak state to get Thomas where he needs to be. Especially since you finally agreed to the sleep schedule.” Logan leveled Remy with a look before following Virgil’s path.
Roman crossed to the couch and put his hands on his knees. “Do you need anything? I can conjure up whatever you want that isn’t coffee or anything else to keep you awake.” Roman laughed at Remy’s groan. “You need sleep, Sleep! So, again: need anything?”
“Not from you, traitor.” Remy snarked with no real malice; he winked before finally submitting and wilting into his blanket with a weak smile. “Actually, if you could help me out of this blanket bind and into some PJs, that would be great.”
“Absolutely.” Roman began untangling the enormous blanket and laughed softly. “Patton does go overboard, but only because he cares. He’s good at what he does, especially the father role, so let him love on you for a bit.” Roman whooped and grinned in victory as he freed Remy from his cocoon; the prince reached out and pulled his friend to his feet, snapping his fingers to trade Sleep’s typical leather jacket for a lightweight white pajama shirt and black pajama pants with sleeping moons.
“Appropriate.” Remy chuckled and collapsed back on the couch, provoking a cocked brow from Roman.
“Need anything else?”
“That’s it for now.”
Roman gave him a look.
“I’ll be fine. I’m sure PattonCake can handle anything I can come up with, but I’ll let you know.”
“Very well. Rest well, my friend. I will see you in sickness and in health!” Roman sunk out just as Remy coughed out, “uh, I do?”
Remy sat in the sudden silence for a moment, just breathing and taking in how he really felt. He’d spent most of the day avoiding Roman’s freaky brother and his endless stream of whacked out sleep deprivation experiments and disturbing dreams, as he had been for a little while now, and honestly it was becoming exhausting. Tragic was the day for him that the other half of Creativity was set free.
“Here we go!” Patton breezed into the room with a tray which he sat on the coffee table in front of Remy, who’d rearranged the blanket in a less restrictive fashion. “Cute jammies! Roman?”
Remy nodded as he eyed the food on the tray. “Tea? Soup? Pat, I’m serious; you know we’re not actually human, right?”
“So? Nothing wrong with some herbs and homemade soup for any type of being! It’s good for the soul!”
“Which, again, we technically don’t have.”
Patton ignored Remy in favor of settling in beside him on the couch. “So, what do you feel like watching?”
“I don’t really care. Whatever you were watching is probably fine. Parks and Rec for the 18th time, I assume.”
Patron shrugged happily and pulled up their favorite streaming service.
“My god. And you guys wonder why I go to the hippocampus for my entertainment.” Remy mumbled and settled in to the couch, slouching into himself a bit. “Way funnier stuff in there, especially from the teen years.”
“Ooooo any baby Thomas stuff in there? I’d love to see that.”
“Well, apparently the memory parts of the brain didn’t really figure out how to communicate properly until Thomas was at least 4 or 5, so Small Tom Tom is a yes, but Tiny Tom Tom is a no.”
“Aw, man. That’d be cute, too, though! Maybe I should go with you some time!”
“Mmm maybe.” Remy assented as he settled in to the couch; the familiar theme song played, and Patton stretched before settling in himself.
“Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo.” Patton sang along, waving a finger as the theme came to an end, and Remy chuckled lightly.
“You know the whole theme song? Even though it doesn’t even have words?”
“Sure. It’s pretty simple, especially when you’ve heard it hundreds of times.”
Remy just laughed again in response. After a few minutes, he eyed the tea and soup, eyes turning down at realizing Patton’s efforts for him, and he leaned over to pull the tray into his lap. He just caught Patton glancing at him with a small smile before he quickly turned back to the TV to give Remy some privacy while he ate. Remy’s own lips turned up as he brought the tea cup to his lips, his eyes widening at the taste; it was actually delicious. He’d never been a fan of tea that wasn’t green or the occasional black of the proper variety, but Patton somehow knew how to get the right taste for him. Roman was right; he was good at this. Remy scooped up some of the soup and couldn’t contain a small whine of relief as it soothed his aching throat the way his water hadn’t been able to.
Before long, Remy polished off everything Patton gave him, and he settled back with a contented sigh, his eyes drooping heavily.
“Good?” Patton murmured quietly so as not to startle Remy from his sleepy stupor.
“Great.” Remy mumbled with another sigh and hugged the blanket around himself tightly.
“Hey, Rem?” Patton whispered.
“Mmm?”
“You wanna snuggle?”
“Um who do I look like, Logan? Absolutely.”
“Well, I mean, you do...”
“Oh my god, Father of the Sides, cuddle me already.” Remy grumbled and thrashed out of the blankets to throw his arms around Patton’s middle, his head on Patton’s upper chest.
Patton just chuckled in return and pulled Remy in close, gently running his hands through Remy’s sweaty, slightly tangled hair.
Patton’s hold suddenly loosened, and Remy let out a discontented grunt. “Hold on. I gotta get something.”
“Noooooooooooo,” Remy moaned pitifully when Patton extracted him from his embrace; Sleep flopped down bonelessly as Patton stood and went into the kitchen. The Moral Side quickly returned with Remy’s cup filled with water and a damp washcloth.
“You’re still all sweaty and feverish even though you’re shivering.” Patton sat down and gently laid the cold cloth on the back of Remy’s neck, leaving his hand there to keep it in place. “I’m gonna help your body with getting your fever to chill out, okay?
“Bad pun.” Remy muttered and pulled Patton toward him; Remy let his head loll and fall to rest on Patton’s shoulder, the full body exhaustion finally kicking in now that he was settled and full. “...thank you for taking care of me. I’m sorry I was such a pain in the ass.” Remy breathed in Patton’s ear before moving to lay in Patton’s lap.
“Too tired to sit up?”
Remy nodded mutely in response, his eyes closed, and Patton rubbed Remy’s back under his shirt, his hands warm and providing a slight reprieve from the chills Remy couldn’t shake.
“You sure...I have a fever?” Remy mumbled sluggishly as he rolled over to get more comfortable, his nose now touching Patton’s stomach and his arms wrapped around the other’s torso.
“Pretty darn, but chills with a fever aren’t uncommon with something like this.” Patton kept his voice even and soothing as he explained, “Lo, Ro, and Vee all experienced symptoms like this when they were burnt out. That’s all this is. You’ve just worked yourself too hard, like a computer that hasn’t been turned off in too long.”
Remy hummed in acknowledgement of Patton’s speech, the other unaware if the sleepy being even heard what he said; Remy’s breathing, though raspy, was becoming heavy and even.
Patton turned on the subtitles and turned down the volume on the TV; he ran his hand over Remy’s back in time with his slower breathing, hoping to help lull him all the way to sleep.
Patton’s gaze snapped up when he heard voices and saw movement on the stairs; Virgil and Roman froze midway down, staring first at Patton and then at Remy before silencing themselves and tiptoeing the rest of the way down. They slipped in and out of the kitchen quickly enough, Roman conjuring a whiteboard to ask Patton if he needed anything before they retreated for the rest of the night.
Patton shook his head with a small smile and a mouthed “thank you” as the pair nodded and headed for the stairs.
Virgil flashed him a thumbs up and mouthed an exaggerated, “no, thank YOU” with a point at Remy and slunk up the stairs after Roman, the latter blowing kisses from his perch before vanishing as well.
Patton shook his head, trying in vain to hold back laughter at his boys’ antics. Remy shifted in his lap, groaning unhappily as he tried to settle back in to comfort; he hugged Patton closer, like a child to his teddy, and sighed one last time in contentment before fully slipping off to sleep.
Patton kept on hand on Remy’s neck and the other on his back, keeping Sleep in safety and comfort until he awoke hours later, every bit as sassy yet clingy as he had been, though the hints of gratitude were far more obvious than before.

Top 5 Favorite Fandom Classics You Still Reread
Well, this week passed crazy fast. Uni started up again and although my schedule is fairly light this semester, getting back into the “flow” proved more difficult than expected. Also the coffee in the cafeteria really does taste as bad as I remember.
But back to the point, which is today it’s time for another Fic Rec Saturday! I hope you’ve all had a great start into the weekend!! Today is all about my favorite fandom classics. Meaning I’ve probably rec’ed them before, but what does one more time hurt, right? By the way, I refer to them as classics because I read them when I first joined this fandom, not necessarily because they are the oldest fics out there!
Here we go, once more not in any particular order:
#1: Meet Me Again, Time After Time by syriala
"Where have you seen me? Did anyone else see me?" Tony turned around and the Soldier put the gun to his forehead. Tony couldn't decide if he wanted to lean into the door or the gun. "You come to me all the time. I took care of your arm the first time" he said and pointed at it. It was clad in leather today and through the glove Tony could only see the silver fingertips. The Soldier took a step back and shook his head. He seemed to concentrate hard on something and then said "No. You cried."   Also known as: The meetings between Tony and The Soldier throughout their lifes.
This is one of the first WinterIron fics I read -- and one of the reason I fell head over heels in love with the pairing. The series consists of ten parts and except for the last one, they are all fairly short oneshots. The development through their different meetings over time is brilliant and I’m pretty sure Remember Me (Bring Me Back) drove me mad with frustration. I felt so bad for Tony and Bucky both but damn if I didn’t want to punch Bucky (and Steve) sometimes.
#2: The Silver Age by @copperbadge
An alternate universe in which Tony Stark was born in 1950 and the Winter Soldier was recovered in 1967, after a failed attempt to assassinate Howard and Maria Stark.
Another WinterIron series and long-time favorite of mine. I think what I really enjoyed about this AU is how well the author handled the what-if scenario wherein the assassination on Howard goes sideways. Tony’s complicated relationship with Howard is also really well-done and I love the various insights from Peggy and Jarvis on those two. And of course the way things continue to develop later on, with Steve, Clint and Natasha despite these completely different circumstances, is masterfully done.
#3: create / detonate by @wordsformurder and reena_jenkins
In a world where Natasha Stark still dreams of fire and blood, the Winter Soldier wakes ahead of schedule and nothing happens the way it was meant to.
(People don’t have a purpose.)
Also WinterIron (I swear, I like other fics too!), this is one of the first fics with a female Tony I read -- and it utterly blew my mind. It’s hard to describe, but this fic portrays Natasha’s relationship with the Winter Soldier incredibly well. There’s a grittiness to them, their relationship but also themselves, that stole my breath and made me feel sick and enamored with them at the same time. It’s a heavy fic, somehow, and not necessarily through heartbreaking angst, but it feels real. One of the best Winter Soldier portraits I’ve read too -- this fic actually made me love the Soldier.
#4: In Which Tony Stark Builds Himself Some Friends (But His Family Was Assigned by Nick Fury) by scifigrl47
Steve takes things like personal responsibility and respect seriously. Tony's got people he pays to take care of that kind of thing, and anyway, he's pretty sure that he's going to die of some exotic disease in his workshop, because Dummy's still a little spotty about what is 'clean' enough to put on an open wound. The rest of the Avengers are in this for personal gain, except for Clint, he just enjoys being a dick. And some things shouldn't be a chore.
To be honest, I love this series mostly because of the team interaction. Not that Steve and Tony aren’t adorable (though it takes a while to get them there) but the author does an amazing job of building these people up into a team over time that I really admire. Also I have a weakness for kidnapped Tony (and especially Tony saving himself), so, you know.
#5: Just a Rose on a Star by Road of Ruin
It wouldn't be the first time Tony Stark had flirted with death. But no matter what the others said, reading stories to the quarantined God of Mischief was definitely one of his better ideas. FrostIron
The summary sounds really light-hearted -- and it is, in parts -- but this fic also packs quite a punch. Tony is, frankly, a mess and Loki isn’t exactly that much better. But damn is it beautifully written and I can’t express how much I love the description of Tony having a star in his chest. Also, I really like The Little Prince and the way it is entwined into the fic.
What are your favorite fandom classics? Feel free to add your recommendations in reblogs/comments or just join the tag :)
