i love in we are lady parts s2 episode 5 saira is trying to sing about issues affecting the Muslim community but the story itself, the show itself, censors her and the censorship is portrayed as physical force from beyond the narrative but also inherent to it. when marginalised people are given platforms, the usually white people who own those platforms will not let marginalised people use them to openly speak about issues that aren't palatable or marketable. these talented Muslim women are inherently political, but what they make cannot be seen to be in an obvious way. on a totally unrelated note, I love that season 2 of we are lady parts heavily features the music of Palestinian artist, Rasha Nahas who also appeared in the finale and you should go listen to her music ❤️🇵🇸

Instead of Eurovision, I'd recommend listening Rasha Nahas, a Palestinian artist.

On Queer-positive Sonic Expression and Activism in Palestine: 10 Songs
By an ArabLit contributing writer The current crisis in Palestine is humanitarian. It’s not queer. Not feminist. It’s a crisis of more than 14,000 dead, more than 6,000 of them children. The war machine doesn’t distinguish between LGBTQ+ and heterosexual individuals when it carpet-bombs densely populated residential areas in Gaza, or when Israeli settlers drive Palestinians in the West Bank out…

I have to admit that I didn't fully read this entire article (YET! I'm too tired to comprehend it all right now), but I did read most of it and it is SO GOOD, AND - I find out when I reach the end of the article - the writer of the article is also Palestinian and from Haifa, just like Nahas? Beautiful, excellent, important...more of this. :')

Songs I Hope You'll Love (Vol. 1)
This is an experiment – I’m gonna try posting these periodically Hi ya’all. I know I haven’t posted much lately. I have a couple longer articles in the works, but for now here are two songs I’ve been listening to often, in search of shreds of hope for peace, and even beauty, for Palestinians and Israelis. The first is an Israeli song called Tov She’atah Kan (טוב שאתה כאן) by Ofra and Idan…

@zoethebitch, Nahas is one of the artists that appears in 2.06 and makes Saira teary-eyed.
They also featured this Afghan songwriter,
Elaha Soroor, further recontextualizing the "I won't mention the w—" scene in the previous episode.
Soroor was one of the first female artists to publicly perform after the fall of Taliban (2001).
A forthright advocate for women's emancipation, she fled the country when her life was in danger.
On the show, we hear her singing a jazzy rendition of "Jama Narenji," a folk song of separation from Herat. The orange color of the title (and video clip) is a symbol of revolution and resistance.

Thinking about how Amina said they should amplify the voices of those in crisis
and the show featured an Afghani singer (Elaha Soroor) and a Palestinian singer (Rasha Nahas)

Last Song: Nbeed نبيذ, by Rasha Nahas
Favorite color: It changes every time someone asks, I feel, but let's say emerald green
Currently Watching: We started the last season of DW some time ago but "Boom" kinda killed my will to watch the rest at the time and I've yet to get back into it. I really, really have a hard time with Moffat's writing apparently :'D
Last Movie: I don't remember the last long movie I watched actually x) I did watch a short movie on YT yesterday, though. It's called What a beautiful wedding, if anyone's interested! (A Black man invited at a plantation wedding is the only one who sees the ghosts.)
Sweet/Spicy/Savory: Savory, I'd say. I love spicy food but my stomach very much can't take it anymore so it makes me sick.
Current Obsessions: Obsessions tend to be be long term for me so I feel like if anyone's been on my gen blog, you kinda know what I'm mostly interested in lmao On the short term though, I'd say telling Hanae's story. I wasn't expecting to become so invested in writing it.
Relationship Status: Been with the same man for more than ten years
Last Thing In My Search History: "tique" (tick) because I was fairly certain that was what I had just killed and it was. Hadn't had time to drink any blood, before anyone's getting worried.

I have your blood in my veins
And your shame on my shoulders
All the tigers in the cage are acting pussies on the streets
All the rebels are runnin' away to the shores
Waitin' for the ark to free their souls away from home
I can speak of longin' and belongin' forever
I can tell you all about the crown of thorns on my head
I can hide up on the branch and wait for it to break
And I can make the lonely snake on the tree of sins dance
I'll take a bite from the apple and spit it in your face
Patience has committed suicide in '48
- A lonely snake dance by Rasha Nahas
