heres a question, im curious as to your opinion on engaging with problematic media and how people should handle it. I mean in some cases it really cant be untangled. For example JK Rowling and Harry Potter because it gives her a platform, but even dead author like H.P Lovecraft a lot of his ideals deal with a rejection of race mixing and those he views as other most notable in Shadows Over Innsmouth. Yet people have for almost a century now engaged with Lovecraft's work. I'm curious as to your opinion on these things owo

A lot of it depends on if the bigoted creator is still alive and profiting (whether financially or socially) off their work.

Doing free advertising for Harry Potter, even in the form of ~progressive~ fanfiction, is still doing free advertising for JK Rowling.

Same for Ladd Ehlinger.

But people like HP Lovecraft, or Edgar Rice Burrougs for that matter are dead, and gain nothing from people doing anything with their creations.

Someone can write as many Trans!POC!Harry fanfiction as they want, it won't stop JK Rowling from making money from her books when people keep buying them.

People can make Ladd Ehlinger's designs for the narrator and the Sphere gay as much as they want, it literally only encourages more people to give Ladd Ehlinger more positive attention on youtube, where he spreads his Conservative ideas about how he thinks Black people are evil monsters and trans people -- or even just people who respect trans kids -- are all pedophiles.

But you can actually take concept from HP Lovecraft or Edgar Rice Burroughs and make them actually progressive, and you're not doing them any favors. They're dead. They have nothing to gain. And you can make their stories actually progressive.

You can't do that with Harry Potter fanfiction or fanart for Ladd Ehlinger's 2007 Flatland film. you can't make them progressive even through fanfiction or shitpost fanart because you're literally just sending more people to give them positive attention and money.

HP Lovecraft gains no power by people turning Cthulu into a little plushy. ERB gains nothing by people rewriting Tarzan to not be racist.

JK Rowling and Ladd Ehlinger have everything to gain by people continuing to worship their creations and encouraging more people to give them positive attention.

Dead people can't directly influence whether or not minorities have basic rights. But real living bigots who are famous and getting attention specifically because of their fictional stories sure as hell can.

It's the difference between buying Chikfila and making your own chicken at home. One of these leads to you directly handing money to people who want Queer people dead. The other does not.

Given the success of new horizons i assume they rushed to begin development on a new game for the next system (switch 2 or whatever, coming next year) as for pocket camp i hope with it being paid they add rotating events and things to do since this is meant to be a one and done purchase. As upsetting as this is, this is a far better fate than many live service games get where they just disappear forever. I feel all live service games should do this after the game reaches end of life. If only for preservation c:

Also yes, I'm very happy we'll get to at least keep the game, in a way! I never really got much invested in mobile games so it never happened to me to reach the "end of its life", but I assume just having it disappear would be horrible! And I really hope that they'll add events and/or new stuff to the paid version, too! I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they'll say in october 🤞

hello, just finished watching house of wax and its really amazing the chemistry nick and carly have. i saw one of your earlier posts and i agree that its probably just like the chemistry of the actors mixed in with that survivors in horror movies are often shipped because they now share a deep connection but regardless i definitely love them a lot and i ship them a lot! <3

I didn't watch House of Wax this year, but it's an excellent Halloween-time movie, so maybe next year.

Their chemistry is just off the charts. All of their long looks. And then just the circumstances on top of it. Not just the two of them being the only survivors (including her boyfriend being killed off), but Nick having no love interest, and when he gives her his shirt and she changes right there next to him. So much crazy stuff.

What a gift.

mickey is just a name they cant trademark common names, the trademark is for mickey mouse specifically also he was called mickey mouse in that short so like its fair game as long as you dont infringe upon trademark (as in use the name to advertise something that could make it misconstrued for disney approved). mickey however is just a name, its sort of like oswald the lucky rabbit, thats trademarked but the name oswald obviously isnt

In Springfield's streets, chaos unfurled, a nightmare realm, a twisted world. Lisa stood, her heart in dread, as Bill's dark whispers filled her head.

The sky was torn, reality bent, a town once safe, now malevolent. She gazed upon the madness spread, regret and fear, a heavy thread.

“How could I let him trick my mind?” She whispered to the howling wind. A demon's pact, a cunning ruse, her trust betrayed, her spirit bruised.

Bill’s laughter echoed, cold and cruel, a puppet master, breaking rules. Yet in his eye, a softer gleam, for Lisa, he held a twisted dream.

Trapped in a web of love and fear, his voice a whisper, always near. Her heart betrayed by feelings deep, in love with Bill, her soul to keep.

He offered her a queen’s dark throne, in Weirdmageddon, to rule alone. Yet Springfield’s fate, a heavy weight, to save her town or seal its fate.

To save her town, to right the wrong, she’d face the chaos, brave and strong. Yet in her heart, a silent cry, for love of Bill, she couldn’t deny.

Im not sure how you can be a "fandom elder" in the flatland fandom when the first fan sequel to it is from like 1907

the people who call themselves "Fandom elder" just say that based on their own age and the ages they assume everyone else has, it's not based on the fandom itself.

The people who go around calling themselves that should never be trusted because they are almost always using it to manipulate younger people and to just demand unquestioning obedience from younger people, which, back in the day when a lot of people called themselves this with pride, led to a whole fucking swath of abuse.

Which is why I never fucking trust anyone who calls themselves that. Especially if they're stanning Ladd Ehlinger, and just calling all of the many detailed criticisms of his shitty film "reductive" and "shallow" despite the Great Vaunted Fandom Elder™ not actually ever offering a single piece of evidence themselves.

like if you genuinely thought the 2007 Flatland film by infamously racist and misogynistic conservative Ladd Ehlinger, the man so blatantly racist and misogynistic that even Republicans had to dissavow him, genuinely had good politics, you'd actually take the time to tell us what those politics are. Like how everyone who's criticized the film has explained what the fucking problems are.

But nah. Stans don't actually want to put in any of the work. They just want people to stop criticizing the thing they're stanning. Which is why despite trying multiple times this person has never once provided any actual examples of the progressive politics they're claiming are in the 2007 film, even when everyone criticizing it is giving multiple detailed examples.

But seriously, I've loved this little ghost ever since I was a little kid and it has only been these last few months where I have actually been taking it seriously. Writing down any an all concepts I have for it on a doc and soon presenting it.

It's been so fun. Expanding and developing characters for this version. Especially giving the trio a chance to grow because why the heck not? It's not just about Casper here.

It's about his family that meant the world to the poor boy. Taken away from life far too soon. And his family being interlocked in the same fate of being taken away too soon.
