I offer you ideas for a ballet Outsiders AU that I’m calling “Keeping you on your toes”

(also fair warning, this is based on some ballet stuff but I’m aware some stuff is unrealistic, I have done ballet and this is just for fun!)

Essentially the story is focused on Paul and Darry, but the gang will probably still be important! Everyone does ballet at a particular studio, but the socs and greasers have different ones. 

Darry and Paul are in the same academy and do the same productions, but Darry usually gets the lead roles due to his technical abilities and how the crowd just seems to love his skill under the spotlight.

Paul is more focused on perfecting his every move and conveying his feelings through his dance, and only gets gentler roles because of this.

One day Paul gets an offer from Bob, whose family runs the socs’ theater, that he could finally get the lead roles he always wanted if he sabotaged Darry’s performance and joined them.

Or in short: Fluff turns into overwhelming guilt for someone who always feels that they’re in second place.

Greaser Principal Dancers: Paul (becomes Dallas), Darry, Ponyboy, Scout, Ace, and Angela

Greaser Soloists: Johnny, Soda, Dallas (becomes Tim), Sandy, and Evie

Greaser Corps de Ballet: The rest of the greasers/hoods, including Bryon and Mark!

Soc Principal Dancers: Cherry, Bev, Marcia, Bob, Randy, Melvin (becomes Paul)

Soc Soloists: David, Gregg, Melvin, Cathy,  M&M

Soc Corps de Ballet: The rest of the socs!

Here are some character descriptions for the greasers since I don’t feel confident drawing fully fledged designs! (Darry’s and Paul’s will include extra information, but everyone else’s will just include looks/what they wear to practice! I’m still finalizing things!)

Darry: Darry is a principal dancer and is the teacher’s favorite. He is currently 19 years old, and has been doing ballet since he was 6. He has been en pointe when he was 12 years old, and loves the class dearly. He looks the same as he does in the book, with large muscles, being over 6’0, with brown hair in a cowlick and icy blue eyes. In this AU, he also has very tanned skin, freckles, looks a lot younger with softer smile lines, and several bruises and calluses from ballet. He has a wider pointe shoe that he pads with paper towels, and he breaks them in by slamming them in the door. Darry wears his usually attire, but the jeans are swapped out for shorts that are easy to move around in.

Paul: Paul is the other male principal dancer and is the teacher’s last choice when choosing between them. He is currently 19 like Darry, and has also been in ballet since he was 6, and en pointe at 12. Paul has a much lighter tan than Darry, but generally follows his book description. He is a tall, muscular blonde man standing at 6’0, with darker blue eyes. He has similar calluses and bruises to Darry, but he doesn’t take as good care of them as Darry does. His pointe shoes are also wide, but he breaks them in by stepping on them with his heel. He pads them with gel pads that his parents buy for him. Paul typically wears his letterman jacket over a grey sleeveless shirt, and sweatpants.

Ponyboy: Ponyboy is 13 and has been en pointe for 1 year. He has been doing ballet since he was 10, with his best friend, Johnny, who he follows everywhere. He has very tanned skin, dark green eyes, reddish brown hair leaning more towards red, and freckles all over his nose. Pony’s also around 5’8 and has room to grow. He usually wears black tank tops, a purple zip up hoodie, and black leggings.

Sodapop: Sodapop is 15, and has been en pointe for 3 years. Him and Steve joined together at 8 years old since Steve thought ballet was a “girl sport” and was embarrassed. Soda has the same extremely tanned skin with freckles like his brothers, but his hair is a dark blonde that lightens up in the summer. His eyes are a warm brown, and he is around 5’10. He usually wears a white shirt, red flannel, and leggings.

Johnny: Johnny is 15, and joined ballet when he was 12. He has been en pointe for 1 year. He has black hair, black eyes, and very tanned skin, much tanner than the Curtis’. He is very skinny and a little short, standing around 5’4-5’5. His arms are littered with scars, and he doesn’t properly care for his calluses or scratches at all. He usually wears a black t-shirt and athletic shorts he got from Dally.

Dallas/Dally: Dally is 16, and joined ballet when he was 13, the same time as Pony and Johnny. He’s been en pointe for 1 year as well, and could not care less about it. He has pale white skin, icy blue eyes, and very white, barely light blonde hair (including his eyelashes). He’s 6’4 and lanky, and he’s Johnny’s older brother. He wears a white tank top, black sweatpants, and a silver dogtag.

Two-bit: Two-bit is 17, and joined ballet when he was 7. He’s been en pointe for 3 years, and doesn’t give a whole lot of effort. He enjoys roles like the Rat King, and doesn’t take anything too seriously until it’s important. He has very light skin, dark red hair, freckles all over his body, and dark grey eyes. He wears a Mickey tank top and skinny pajama pants.

Steve: Steve is 16, and him and Soda joined when they were 8. He has also been en pointe for 3 years, and gets made fun of for it. He has tan skin, moles under his eye and mouth, and a gap tooth. He also has extremely curly black hair and light green eyes. He usually wears a random graphic t-shirt and basketball shorts.

I am BURNING with the need to elaborate, so I’ll start with Who’s Who:

- Ponyboy would be Hiccup, obviously

BUT I’ll explain anyway. A boy who is misunderstood by the parental figure in his life and wants more than the violence he’s been raised with. Who am I describing, Ponyboy or Hiccup? I dunno, you tell me

- and Darry is Stoick, again, obviously

Both Darry and Stoick are the leaders of their community/gang. Darry butts heads with Ponyboy in the same way Stoick and Hiccup do, which causes immense strain on their relationship

- Soda and Steve are Ruffnut and Tuffnut (no, they’re not siblings. Soda is still related to Pony and Darry)

They are best friends and can totally read each other’s mind. I personally headcanon that Steve and Soda get up to some WILD shit in their free time, just like the twins. I think they would also be the only two who would be in sync enough to ride a zippleback (yes, the dragons still correlate with each character. This is important later on for some of my choices)

- Two-Bit is so Gobber to me it hurts

I am a Darry/Two-Bit Best Friends Truther. Two-Bit and Ponyboy’s relationship is also something so special to me, and I really do think it mirrors Gobber’s and Hiccup’s. Both Two-Bit and Gobber look out for Pony and Hiccup, respectively. They duos also hang out with each other (Pony and Two-Bit spending the day together after Pony got back from Windrixville and Hiccup working at Gobber’s forge). Gobber is also the wise-cracker of the bunch, like Two-Bit

- Johnny is Astrid (NOT AS THE LOVE INTEREST. In this house, under MY roof, we ship Purly)

Astrid has the respect of Berk like Johnny has the respect of the gang. Both are really tough (and they’re both complete softies once you get to know them). Astrid is also the first person to truly get Hiccup, and that’s a defining aspect of Ponyboy and Johnny’s relationship. They get each other. Johnny would understand Pony’s love for dragons the same way he understands Pony’s love for sunsets and movies. They way Astrid understands Hiccup and his love for dragons

- Curly is Snotlout

Doing stupid shit and getting into trouble because of it. Again, who am I describing, Curly or Snotlout. (This characterization and Tim’s also just work out really nicely)

- and Randy is Fishlegs cause I say so

Randy, who understands why the Soc’s and the greasers fight very clearly. Fishlegs, who knows just as much, if not more, about dragons than Hiccup.

Now getting into the TV shows and later movies:

- Tim is Spitelout

Him and Darry are friends, but a little to the left of not quite. Also, Spitelout has his own kind of sway amongst the people of Berk, which reflects how Tim is the leader of the Shepard gang

- Paul is Alvin

The Lore between Paul and Darry fits SO WELL with Alvin and Stoick’s backstory

- Bob is Gustav because he’s kind of a shit

Bob wants to fit in with The Cool Kids TM. I also just think it would be funny

- Cherry is gonna be Heather

Cherry and Heather are both badasses and they both connect with Ponyboy/Hiccup on their shared love for something other people hate or scoff at. she and Dagur also both have red hair and green eyes

- Dallas is the one and only Eret, son of Eret

Eret and Dally are both men who have been hardened to the world, but still manage to do the right thing. They both come from far off lands and have a good relationship Astrid/Johnny

- and Angela is Valka

I had to throw some Shepard family angst in SOMEWHERE

- I have no idea where to put Marcia and it is KILLING ME

For the purposes of this AU, the greaser/Soc divide doesn’t exist. I also based these characterizations more on shared character arc/personality, as well as Outsiders relationships, than HTTYD relationships

it's super late at night so my thoughts are in no way coherent but here's some of my favourite outsiders thoughts I thinked today

"You wanna be a fighter then know just what you're fighting for speaking of which I gotta go pick up my paycheck"(musical) Darry wanted to fight for Ponyboy in the rumble I think his motivations were different than the rest of the Greasers. He has enough life experience to know winning that fight won't change anything and he knows it wouldn't help johnny at all, I think he more just fights for the honour, winning a fight feels like an accomplishment which isn't something he feels much anymore. He also wants to protect his brothers, he can't not fight while pony and soda are out there, and also maybe he lowkey wants to win a fight against Paul's gang (Parry🤯🤯)

I don't think Cherry liked it much when marcia and Two-Bit got together, she supported her cause marcia's her best friend but she tried to avoid being around two-bit. Being around his gang brings back really bad memories she tries real hard to not think about. Its kinda like how she didn't want to see Johnny in the hospital, not because he's a greaser but because that is the kid that killed her boyfriend, she couldn't bring herself to go see him. She avoids being around Two-Bit because his friends are often around and even things as simple as just seeing Ponyboy from across the road brings her back to the worst week of her life

Marcia and Two's love is much truer than Cherry and Bob's ever was

"I can think of little other reason to dress up so horrendously. You know the idea is to convince others to talk to you, not turn them off, don't you?"

But he holds out a hand nonetheless. "But I've never turned a cheek at a man just because his hands were dirty. I have to assume it's your bloody print on that woman's back, no? If you're up for it, would you visit one of these houses with me?"

“Well, you’re talking to me, aren’t you?” Griss parries easily enough. Of course, the talking hasn’t been his problem; it’s the cooperation that’s been harder to scare coax out of the other participants in this game. But he can’t say he hasn’t been here before. Even among the disciples that had raised him, zealots were still ostracized. His reputation had made it crucial that he learn to work creatively, or alone.

Griss settles into the dip in the low branch he’s made into his perch for now, blood dripping steadily from it to the stained earth below him as if from a fresh wound. It doesn’t seem to faze him, however. Clearly, it’s not his own, and he studies the familiarity in this man’s face with bright, mischievous eyes. It’s missing a few dozen lines and a rough world-weariness to it, but Griss is certain he’d known this man before. They’d collaborated. And Griss had come out the victor in the end.

A smirk snakes across his lips. “Randy, yeah? So this is what a few more hours of sleep and a haircut can do.” He chuckles, pumps both legs and swings off the branch onto the ground, blood-soaked mud squelching under his feet.

“Since you asked so nicely, I’m not gonna say no.” And maybe he’s even a little pleased with the memento he left Poe with. More importantly though, he sees another potential victory in this alliance, so he seals the deal by slapping Randal’s hand loud enough to make a faintly wet smack sound. Fortunately for Randal, however, the blood is mostly dried on the palms of his hands by now.

“So how d’you wanna do it? Scare ‘em? Lure ‘em out of their houses and steal the candy? Oh, or maybe,” a dangerous smile, “we light ‘em up. Make this night a real bloodbath to remember!”

Doc Holliday The Life and Legend - Gary L. Roberts This is a great biography 10/10. I recommend

Wyatt Earp - Casey Tefertiller This is a great biography 10/10. I recommend. This and previous biography are must have

Inventing Wyatt Earp - Allen Barra  It  is both a biography and a great research into Wyatt’s mythological image through years and generations. But a little warning, the author VERY LOVES Wyatt, be careful of little whitewashing of history. Author ship docatt, i swear

Murder in Tombstone - Steven  Lubet This is an INVALUABLE book with the analysis of the trial of the Earp brothers and the American judicial system of late 19th century. I wanna kiss author’s hands

The last gunfight - Jeff Guinn The author does not focus on personalities, but rather explores the historical context and the reasons that led to the Tombstone shootout. This is also an invaluable nonfiction book. He sneers a lot and jokes in the course of the narrative  both over the debunkers and the whitewashers. Author ship docatt, i swear

The Earp desicion - Jack DeMattos the book is entirely devoted to the description of the fight where Wyatt refereed the legendary s h i t s h o w between Robert Fitzsimmons and Tom Sharkey in 1896. Good neutral book

Really, Frank Waters can suck my dick. I am RAGING. It is full of foolish exaggerations and outrageous lies that pretend to be based on Allie's Earp (Virgil’s widow) memoir (she hated her husband's brothers, especially Wyatt). and the Cowboys are Good Guys (™). You can read this book just to understand how much my ass burns

Wyatt Earp: a vigilante life - Andrew C. Isenberg Haha debunker pseudo-nonfiction shit again. The author uses a lot of unreliable far-fetched sources and has a hyperfixation on masculinity. Also he suffers from internal homophobia. I have a feeling the author jerks off on Wyatt and hates himself for it

Doc Holliday, the gunfighter - Matt Braun Actually, a really good fiction book written very pleasantly and close to the real life truth, about John Henry’s transformation into Doc

The fourth horseman - Randy Lee Eickhoff This book is even better written than the previous one. An interesting half-truth about Doc, a good fiction. A slightly mystical explanation for Doc’s luck and his known volcanic temper. Author ship docatt, i swear

Black hats - Patrick Culhane Very nice fiction book on the adventures of Doc’s son and elderly Wyatt during prohibition. Alcohol, gangsters, Al Capone. A son is a carbon copy of his father, which causes Wyatt some fEeLingS and nostalgia. I cried. And elderly Wyatt is HoT. Apparently, Kate fucked halfdead Doc in his final days in Glenwood 

The winter wolf - Richard Parry This book is pure fiction about the adventures of Wyatt's son from Mattie. Unlike Doc's son, Wyatt's son is an idiot. I wanted to smash his head against the wall. Repeatedly. Dumb shit

Doc - Mary Doria Russel and Epitaph - Mary Doria Russel F I C T I O N. Doc started well. These books even concentrate on Doc's being a dentist. He makes Wyatt dentures (in this books father knocked out Wyatt's front teeth many years ago, so Wyatt NEVER smiles). I also suspect that this Wyatt is likely somewhere on the autistic spectrum (it is popular trope in  tombstone fiction really) and has an anger control problem. At first author seems to ship Wyatt and Doc, but at the end of the Epitaph, the author remembered that she was writing a sEriOuS wOrk, not a slash fanfic. And made a completely ugly ending. But the chapter of Wyatt’s fury road is BEAUTIFULLY  written. 

Bloody season - Loren D.Estleman It’s a slightly dull fiction book about Tombstone events. The author has hyperfixation on dicks, on the color of dicks, on urination and defecation processes. And Doc is wifebeater (i hate this trope). But sometimes there are good jokes here. Sometimes

Trouble in Tombstone - Richard S. Wheeler Nice simple half-truth fiction retelling of the original events. The scene of the last goodbye is heartbreaking. Author ship docatt, i swear

Gunman's rhapsody - Robert  Parker Not bad fiction book. This Wyatt is likely somewhere on the autistic spectrum too. And he has a weird attitude about killing people.He doesn't give a flying fuck. For him, killing a man is like going to a grocery store. But it's interesting to watch

The frontier world of Doc Holliday - Patricia Jahns The half-fiction book started out pretty good but ended in the deepest hell. The author loves John Henry Holliday very much, but dislikes Doc Holliday. Even more, she dislikes Doc Holliday in a duet with Wyatt. And she loves when Doc suffers. The author can suck my dick

O.K. - Paul West The book started out pretty good but ended in the hell too, damn. Very loyal to Wyatt, Doc follows the Earp clan, because he senses that brothers will soon have problems and wants to die in such a way that he will be remembered. But then the author did something to Wyatt's character. Wyatt turned out to be a duplicitous perverted asshole with a craving for moral exhibitionism. I dropped the book, sorry
