NAME: Ranburu FULL TITLE: n/a AGE: 26 ((I don’t really have his timeline sorted out, so we’re going with how old he’d probably be after Legion. Probably. Sorry.)) SPECIES: Darkspear Troll GENDER: Male ORIENTATION: Heterosexual PROFESSION: Farmer. Druid. RELIGION: Worships the loa. (Is not as devout as he probably should be.)

PHYSICAL ASPECTS -

BODY TYPE: Very obese. SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: On his upper chest/shoulder area there is a scar on both sides. EYES: Orange. HAIR: Bright red that he styles into mohawk. Doesn’t always keep the sides shaved. Maintains robust sideburns. SKIN: Blue, with a thin coating of fur. ((fite me)) HEIGHT: 8′1 when standing straight. WEIGHT: ~400-500lb human. I don’t know how much trolls are supposed to weigh, so it’s hard to estimate his weight. If you take 300lbs as a starting point for the average adult male troll, he’d be... 750-930lbs? Gah, I dunno. ((Also Ranburu has just been getting larger and larger. So. >_>))

Could you talk about how Chopper’s “Rumble Ball” translates? It’s a rather odd word, so I was wondering what it looked like in the original. I love your blog!

It’s actually a direct transliteration!

In Japanese, they’re called ランブルボール/ranburu bōru, so just the English words ‘Rumble Ball’ written in Japanese! So you can probably just put any unnaturalness of the word choice down to the fact that Oda isn’t fluent in English, and picked something that sounded cool, which is super valid of him.

Overdue Letter back Home

Dearest Ranburu,

Brother of my heart I concede, you win and you’ll get your gil next we meet. Hows ‘bout we bet on something you’re utter swill at next round huh? Fairs fair!

Lack of letters aside, I’ve got a plan for me n’ you. Don’t you roll your eyes either you’ll like this one! When I received my duties, and got meself settled, I figured out requests for puttin’ some time in for sabbaticals ‘n the like. Know what I did right off? Put in for three weeks during marlin season. Apparently it’s the first request they got ‘cause it just got approved. So you know what that means?! Get started on that bloody boat! Unless you really have a hankerin’ for gettin stuck with dad’s oyster rig for three weeks. Maybe bring along Vyelroix to the shipyard so you’ll actually do it? You know she can’t rightfully resist seeing you sweat. (Ugh, wish I had the time to make a new letter. Can’t believe I jus’ wrote that.) Oh! But she aint comin’. This is a sibling thing. I already wake up enough here at the levy to creaking bedframes and twelve fathoms what else!

Anyway Ran, you know I prefer to actually talk talk ‘bout work. Along with bait or beer to keep me mind steady. But, at this point, ‘guess it’d be real cruel not to write somethin about how it’s been here in Limsa proper. Especially with ma and dad expectin’ you to be the first I write to. I’ve been assigned provisional duty with the 1st squadron, 9th levy. Which is choppin’ up to be supplier, glorified emergency repairmen, and rotating barkeep durin’ slow hours. (Yeah, there’s a bar at the levy and no ye can’t know where it’s at big guy!) So, honestly? Not so bad. But me head’s still spinnin’ with the constant work. Daily there’s veritable tonz of orders to send, receive and divvy out and apparently things go missin’ as often in the Maelstrom as they did in the ‘Jacket. Speakin o the ‘Jacket; I’ve Aleport’s late Ostulmsyn’s bleedin son to answer to directly as Commander! Small isle eh? You should tell Illswys that ‘lil tidbit. Wait - no scratch that I’m sure she already knows. Hells, Miss Gossip probably knew that even ‘fore I was assigned.

Bah, sod it, that’s all I have time for big brother. Send me some letters back if you’re wantin’ to know about anything specific. I can promise I won’t take as long next time. Maybe.

He is an absolute sucker for goblin-made knick-knacks and appliances. He’s an easy target to swindle. He’s proudly displayed tat he purchased from Griftah. 

When walking, Ranburu is drawn up to his full height. His belly is much too large for him to walk with a natural troll slouch without falling forward.

Ranburu absolutely loves holidays. His favorite is Winter Veil. He loves visiting friends and family, he loves the decorations, and he loves the food. The more, the better.

He enjoys buying “nice outfits”, which generally translates to ugly or gaudy clothes that don’t fit him quite right. Button down shirts are the most common. 

Belly rubs put him right to sleep.

Ranburu sports a scar from a mortal wound from being run through by a nasty Gurubashi troll named Djinambo. Luckily, his friend Zintwabanai was able to use blood magic and bring him back from the brink of death.  

As any self-respecting jungle troll should, he despises birds. Very early on in his friendship with Vyel’thas, he mistook her pet bird for a simple nuisance and snapped it up for a snack.

The only time Ranburu has worn body paint is when he married Vye. They had a traditional troll marriage.

It’s been some time since he’s been able to do it, but one of the only physical activities he enjoys is he’ethraze. He’s actually hesitant to try and surf again because he’s gotten so heavy since the last time he got on his board.

Ranburu is incredibly proud of his son Azuli for taking so druidism so naturally, and hopes that he will far surpass Ranburu’s knowledge in the art.

- The future of his tribe. Ranburu almost lost his father when the Kor’kron put Darkspear Isle under martial law. He does not feel the Darkspear are particularly safe being allied with the Horde, but without it, they will be wiped from history. After the loss of his Chieftain, he is more scared than ever.

So who is your Decker character exactly and how is he built? I'm interested in hearing about him.

Hey, thanks for reaching out.

I actually have never built Ranburu - I don’t have a Shadowrun game I’m playing in or GMing unfortunately. I’ve been wanting to play for about 9 years but so far I’ve only played a Mission at a local convention. I haven’t dug too deep into the rules, and at this point I’d probably be more inclined to run/play Anarchy for something less crunchy. (I GM Pathfinder and it can be so tiring, haha). Sorry if that’s disappointing!

He was actually the first idea for a Shadowrun character I had - a tubby, nerdy troll decker who was born to a human family and goblinized. (I know some people get upset when you play drastically against type, but as far as I know I’ve avoided the lore police.) 

Over time Ran has definitely morphed into something else entirely. I introduced my roommate and RP partner to tabletop gaming and of course Shadowrun. We decided it would be fun to take our characters we RP from World of Warcraft and port them over to Shadowrun. It’s funny actually. The original concept I had of my Shadowrun character had inspired my Darkspear troll when I started roleplaying him in WoW. Ranburu really became a character and not just an idea. In turn, when my roommate and I decided it would be fun to have an alternate universe of our WoW characters in Shadowrun, Ranburu returned to his roots.
