Ram looks familiar….. YOU!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You guys need to understand how this broke my brain. Orignally I thought he looked a bit like Swan from the Warriors(1979) but he would’ve been in Xanadu around the time of Tron. Ram is fucking billy the kid. This man brings a blorbo vibe to everything apparently 😭

Lmao trying to categorize my two different fix-it fics for Ram's death in Tron (1982)
evidence for "bullshit, it didn't happen":
both of them, in different ways, assert that what we saw happen to Ram was not actually death, even though Flynn thought it was, fuck you, he's totally fine afterwards
evidence for "avoid or undo":
nothing we saw onscreen is denied, only the interpretation of it is changed. (definitely abides by the laws of the universe and required plot outlines.)
....notably, both alternate interpretations of the death scene coexist in my headcanon, since I've decided that part of what "actually" happened was him being copied and creating a backup. Soooo, he has two whole different fates in which he's totally fine and having fun with friends (one is just more smutty fun)
as he is a computer program, this also fits within the constraints of the universe. Byte me.
i love how there's the genre of fix-it fic where the author goes into great granular detail of how our heroes manage to avoid or undo whatever character death or other unpopular choice occurred, in a way that abides by the laws of the fictional universe and definitely required a substantial plot outline, and then there are fix-it fics where the author just went "that's bullshit and didn't happen," and we as readers all go "agreed. carry on."

User does not mean maker
User and maker are often thought to mean the same thing within the fandom and in the world itself however this is not always the case.
Tumblr media
Our main character’s users just so happen to be their makers in this case because they’re integral parts of the main system. They’re not to be “used” by anyone commercially. Tron is a security program while Yori works in design and fabrication (permanent memory, updates etc). Neither of them are on the commercial everyday use computers. It makes sense for their users to be who made them- as they’re probably the only ones to access them when things are running smoothly.
Ram and Crom however aren’t the same, working for insurance firms and a savings and loan respectively. Crom’s user is “Mr.Henderson” a regional manager while we don’t know Ram’s but it’s probably a lawyer or office worker but not Roy. They’re much more commercial use non system based programs… they’re designed to be in regular access to all sorts of users not just one.
All humans are Users but not all users are Makers, I’d say in technical terms it’s more fitting to say Programs reflect makers but still address them as users.
I’m sure someone who has a actual knowledge in programing and computing could explain this in a far neater fashion.

Ram is definitely both
Tumblr media
yall gotta learn to separate "this character deserved better" (as in "this character has an intentionally tragic story that is supposed to feel bad") and "this character deserved better" (as in "this character had so much potential and was failed by the writer")
