One of them is a female mongrel (she has literally taken up like half of the bed right now!) and another is a Rajapalayam it's a hunting breed in India, but this little boy was too soft to hunt so he got abandoned near my parents house and then eventually my mom took him in!
And then my mother runs a rescue shelter for dogs who are high maintenance or just the ones that people abandon in general.

A Man's Best Friend
Today, we are talking about one of our favourite furry friends. They are one of the most adorable animals on earth, and John Wick literally risked his life to save one of them!
Tumblr media
Honestly? I would also risk my life after looking at them. Did you know that dogs are one of the most beloved animals in India? They are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and friendly nature.
India is home to over 30 million stray dogs (what?!?). In addition to these, there are several breeds of dogs that are native to India. Some of the most popular Indian dog breeds include the Indian Spitz, Gaddi Kutta, Bully Kutta, Mudhol Hound, Pariah dog, Kaikadi, Taji, Rajapalayam, Pandikona, Jonangi, Bakharwal, Tangkhul, Kombai, Rampur Greyhound, Chippiparai, Vikhan Sheepdog, Mahratta, Sinhala Hound, Kumaon Mastiff, Gull Dong, and the Gull Terrier. Even I didn't know we had so many species. Guess we really learn something new everyday.
Did you know that dogs are omnivores? So don't give them rotis and rice, alright? Give them some meat to keep that animal instinct alive. Just don't forget to not give them chocolate or grapes, it is very toxic for them.
While we know dogs are generally friendly and harmless, they can be dangerous if not trained properly. Dogs can be harmful if they are not vaccinated against rabies. Rabies is a viral disease that can be transmitted to humans through the saliva of an infected animal. In India, dogs are the main vectors of the rabies virus, and the country accounts for 35% of the world’s rabies deaths. In addition to this, dogs can also be harmful if they are not spayed or neutered. Stray dogs can breed rapidly, leading to an increase in the number of stray dogs on the streets. So please don't forget to give your pets some necessary shots and protect them as well as yourselves from harm.
While we have taken care of our safety, don't forget about the dog's safety. Dogs in India are often subjected to cruelty and neglect. Many dogs are abandoned by their owners and left to fend for themselves on the streets. Stray dogs are often subjected to violence and abuse by people who view them as a nuisance. In addition to this, many dogs are not vaccinated against rabies, which puts both the dogs and humans at risk.
There are several ways in which we can help dogs in India. One of the most effective ways is to adopt a dog from a shelter instead of buying one from a breeder. This helps to reduce the number of stray dogs on the streets. Another way to help is to volunteer at an animal shelter or donate money to an animal welfare organization. It is also important to vaccinate dogs against rabies and to spay or neuter them to prevent overpopulation.

The Top Dog Breeds in India 2023: Finding the Perfect Companion [Updated]
India, with its diverse climate and culture, is a nation of dog lovers. Dogs have been cherished companions for centuries, and their popularity continues to grow. If you're considering bringing a furry friend into your home, it's important to choose a breed that suits your lifestyle and the Indian environment. In this article, we'll explore the best dog breeds in India, taking into account factors like climate, living space, and temperament.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Dog Breed in India:
Climate and Weather Considerations: India's climate varies from region to region. In the sweltering heat of North India, you need a breed that can handle high temperatures. In contrast, hilly regions may require a dog with a thicker coat. Consider the local weather when choosing your dog's breed.
Space and Housing: Do you live in a spacious house with a yard, or do you reside in a cozy apartment in the city? The amount of space available plays a significant role in selecting the right breed. Smaller breeds may thrive in apartments, while larger dogs may need more room to roam.
Activity Level and Lifestyle: Your dog's energy level should match your lifestyle. Active breeds require daily exercise and mental stimulation, while others are content with short walks. Assess your activity level to ensure a harmonious match.
Allergies and Health Concerns: It's vital to consider any allergies or health concerns you or your family members may have. Some breeds are hypoallergenic, making them suitable for households with allergies.
Local Regulations and Breeding Ethics: Be aware of local regulations, especially regarding certain breeds or sizes. Additionally, choose breeders who adhere to ethical breeding practices and prioritize the health and well-being of the dogs.
Top Dog Breeds for Indian Families:
Labrador Retriever: Known for their friendly disposition, Labrador Retrievers are well-suited to Indian families. They thrive in various climates and are excellent with children.
Indian Pariah Dog: The Indian Pariah Dog, also known as the Desi Dog, is a native breed that's low-maintenance and well-adapted to Indian conditions. Consider adopting one from a shelter.
Golden Retriever: Golden Retrievers are known for their gentle nature and adaptability. Their beautiful golden coat may require extra care in the Indian heat.
Beagle: Beagles are small in size but big in personality. They're great companions and fit well into apartment living.
German Shepherd: If you're looking for an intelligent and loyal breed, the German Shepherd is an excellent choice. They require regular exercise and mental stimulation.
Dachshund: Dachshunds are small in size and can adapt to apartment living. However, they may be prone to back problems, so handle them with care.
Lesser-Known Dog Breeds Worth Considering:
Rajapalayam, Mudhol Hound, Himalayan Mastiff, Chippiparai, and Indian Spitz are some lesser-known but unique breeds to explore. Research these breeds to see if they match your lifestyle.
Adopting vs. Buying: Ethical Considerations:
Consider adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue organization. It's a compassionate choice and helps reduce the stray dog population in India. Responsible breeding practices are essential to ensure the well-being of dogs.
Tips for Caring for Dogs in India:
Diet and Nutrition: Opt for a diet that suits the Indian climate and your dog's specific needs.
Health Care: Keep up with vaccinations and regular vet visits.
Exercise and Socialization: Dogs need exercise and social interaction to stay happy and healthy.
Grooming: Adjust grooming routines according to the season to keep your dog comfortable.
Last Words
Choosing the Best Dog Breeds in India is a significant decision. Consider the climate, living space, and your family's lifestyle when making your choice. The top breeds mentioned here are a good starting point but don't forget about the unique and lesser-known breeds that might just be the perfect match for you. Always prioritize responsible pet ownership, whether you decide to adopt or buy. A happy and healthy dog will undoubtedly bring joy to your life.

Celebrating the Charm of Indian Dogs: Why They Triumph over Foreign Breeds?
As a dedicated dog lover, I have had the privilege of experiencing the remarkable traits and captivating personalities of various dog breeds. However, there is something truly extraordinary about Indian dogs that sets them apart from their foreign counterparts. In this blog post, we will explore the reasons why Indian dogs are unrivaled in their charm and appeal. From their adaptability to their loyal nature, Indian breeds have a special place in our hearts and homes.
Adaptability to Indian Climate: One of the standout advantages of Indian dogs is their remarkable adaptability to the diverse climate of the Indian subcontinent. Whether it's the scorching heat of Rajasthan or the chilly winters in the Himalayas, Indian breeds have developed the resilience to thrive in these conditions. Their genetic makeup enables them to withstand extreme temperatures, making them better suited to the Indian climate than many foreign breeds.
Enhanced Immunity and Health: Indian dogs have evolved over centuries in challenging environments, resulting in a robust immune system and overall good health. These indigenous breeds have a natural resistance to local diseases and parasites, reducing the need for excessive veterinary interventions. Additionally, their genetic diversity often contributes to better overall health outcomes, making them less prone to breed-specific health issues commonly found in some foreign breeds.
High Levels of Loyalty: One trait that consistently shines through in Indian breeds is their unwavering loyalty. From the mighty Rajapalayam to the charming Mudhol Hound, these dogs form deep bonds with their families and become fiercely protective. Their loyalty is unparalleled, making them excellent guardians and companions. Indian dogs are known to go to great lengths to ensure the safety and happiness of their loved ones.
Versatility and Adaptability: Indian breeds are versatile and adaptable, excelling in various roles and environments. They have been bred for specific purposes, such as herding, guarding, and hunting, making them highly skilled at their respective tasks. Whether you live in an apartment or on a farm, there is an Indian breed suitable for your lifestyle. From the intelligent and agile Indian Spitz to the courageous and vigilant Chippiparai, these breeds can adapt to diverse living conditions with ease.
Conclusion: While foreign breeds undoubtedly have their own unique qualities and charm, Indian dogs possess a special allure that stems from their deep-rooted connection to the land and people of India. Their adaptability, robust health, loyalty, and versatility make them exceptional companions in both urban and rural settings. As responsible dog enthusiasts, let us celebrate and preserve the legacy of Indian breeds, promoting their recognition and ensuring their continued existence for generations to come.
