Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
soft desi engene hours. could u just IMAGINE sitarist!jay and dholi!you!?!??? 🥺
jay is grateful to have a lover who hails from such a gorgeous, rich culture that spans millennia. and as any connoisseur of culture would say - music isn’t just part of culture….it is culture. he’s been playing guitar for many years now. and he wants to venture out into other stringed instruments. and what better way than learning the sitar?
jay enjoys the calming, soulful, and twangy sound of the sitar. it sends him into a trance and he feels completely immersed in a different world. despite it being “different” from what he’s done before, he believes that the language of music is universal - one felt within the heart first and foremost.
he holds a deep reverence for south asian music. be it nusrat fateh ali khan, kishore kumar, mohammed rafi, noor jehan, or asha bhosle, he feels the timeless, evergreen spirit of such compositions pulse within his soul.
watching him learn the sitar is an endearing sight. ethereal even! seeing the level of dedication he has towards mastering such an art form warms your heart. he wants to learn bhajans, shabads, and ghazals for you. all he wants in life is to express his love for you through music. just chillin’ in his kurtas with the sleeves rolled up and his sitar by his side, showing you the ravi shankar songs he’s learned so far.
on the other hand, he too admires you for your passion for percussion. jay loves your appreciation towards the different types of dhol. he fawns over the euphoric feeling you get when hitting every thappi and tiparu and the way you chant your DHAs and DHINs while doing so. jay also appreciates the way you treat your dagga and tilli sticks like they’re your babies. he loves the swingy sound of dhol beats and the swagger you exude while you play.
jay sometimes gets annoyed when you pester him with the sound of your loud ass dhol while he’s peacefully and calmly practicing his sitar. but he knows it’s out of love and good fun. it’s the desi equivalent of the percussionist kids in band disrupting the ones who play the wind and brass instruments. antics aside, jay appreciates the lively spirit and camaraderie that comes with these musical clashes, cherishing the shared moments of cultural exchange and musical banter.
in the end, these musical escapades become cherished memories, shaping jay’s musical journey with a touch of spontaneity and joy. the blend of dhol and sitar, once seemingly contrasting, transforms into a celebration of diversity within your shared love for music. as the two of you continue your artistic pursuits, jay realizes that the moments of lighthearted banter and cultural exchange have added a special rhythm to the soundtrack of your relationship - one of seismic adoration.
with each note played and every shared laugh echoing in the air, jay acknowledges that your artistic pursuits have not only strengthened your musical connection with each other, but have also deepened your bond with him. the rhythm of seismic adoration encompasses the highs and lows, much like the crescendos and decrescendos in your collaborative performances. through the language of music, your relationship thrives, creating a symphony of understanding, support, and shared passion that resonates far beyond the notes of your instruments.

Love English music all you want, but NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING, hits harder than desi music. Like every single singer has their own trademark genre which they can execute PERFECTLY??
Can we talk about Arijit’s Mai gehra tamas tu sunehra sawera main tera in Kalank?
or his Tum sath ho ya na ho kya fark hai, bedard thi zindagi bedard hai in Agar tum sath ho?
or Tujh sang sukhi roti bhaye in Mast Magan? Ok leave that.
Lets talk about Atif’s Khayalon me lakho baaten yun toh keh gaya, bola kuch na tere saamne in Tu jaane na?
or Rafta rafta tera hua, tere bin mai hu benishan in Tera hua?
or Tenu lakhan ton chhupa ke rakhaan akkhaan te sajaa ke tu ae meri wafaa, rakh apna bana ke main tere layi aan yaara in Dil Diyan Gallan? Ok leave that
Let's talk about KK's Chaand Teri roshni ka halka sa ek saaya hai in Ajab Si?
Or dil kyun yeh mera shor kare, idhar nahi udhar nahi teri orr chale in Dil Kyu Yeh Mera?
Or lut Gaye hum teri mohabbat me in Tadap Tadap? Ok leave that.
Let's talk about Jubin Nautiyal's tum se jo mil gaye, Mausam khil gaye, khudse ladne Lage hum sawarne lage in sawarne lage?
Or Mausam mohabbaton ke, lamhe ye chahaton ke apne liya bane hai maan le in Gazab ka hai din?
Or tere bina main na rahu mere bina tu in raatan lambiyan? Fine, leave that as well.
Lets talk about Shreya Ghoshal's kaise huzurji ye lab dikhlaaye, chuppi lagake bhi gazab hai yeh dhaye in saibo.
Or Ye ishq haaye baithe bithaaye jannat dikhaye hain in ye ishq?
Or Dil bharta nahi, aankhen rajjti nahi, chaahe kitna bhi dekhti jaaun, waqt jaaye main rok na paaun in Thodi Der?
And DO NOT get me started on Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Ji, Asha ji and Sonu Nigam. Desi songs are peak lyrics, romance, emotion and vocals. You're straight up wrong if you think ANYTHING can beat that. I love Taylor, 1D and all, but Hindi songs? Absolutely unmatched!

Abdul offering people a tel maalish in Pyaasa
Johnny walker is a breath of fresh air in the melancholic tale by Guru Dutt. the moment he appears on screen, the heavy weight on one’s chest is replaced by a few light hearted chuckle. comedy came naturally to him, without fail, he’d hit all the punch lines to retrieve the right amount of laughter from his audience. “Sir jo tera Chakraye” is a memorable number for children and adults alike. In the middle of the chaos that unravels around Vijay, Abdul nudges it away for the viewers with a song about head massage. Rafi sahab’s command over his voice for different songs is commendable. he gives all that he can, so aptly, as if he’s also playing the character. you cannot separate his voice from Abdul here.

show me your anxiety-riddled ocs I need them for science
Oh there are so so many XD
I'll keep it to 7 of my favorites, and do my best to keep these short but still give enough background.
Tw: nonhuman characters, mentions of burning and family death, learning disability related stress, lab rat content, and dehumanizing circumstance for nonhuman characters such as being owned or abused
Fear not, I threw in a little fluff
Among the ones I go after the most:
Rook - a scrapy fierce little creature, who's response to fear is anger. He's always afraid, always worried this fleeting period of freedom with his found family will end, or later on as he develops more self awareness, that they will get sick of him and abandon him. This manifests as him getting frustrated easier, snapping at people, and occasionally just going after them. Luckily his caretaker is an ex gladiator, and an ex hit woman, so she can take it.
Enzo - a member of the same cast as Rook. He came from very dehumanizing circumstance before he got sold off. He is a people pleaser because that's how he learned to survive. So at first he was pretty nervous around his rescuer/caretaker, but that wore off pretty quickly. He took to worry about her and the others in their found family, that they'd get hurt, or found (they're on the run) not to mention he harbors alot of insecurity, very low self worth. This is something the caretaker helps amend, as she doesn't want to see him get hurt or taken advantage of.
One of my favorite symbolic demonstrations of his healing over time is his singing. Hear me out. He's a siren type creature, so he loves to sing, he's meant to. But the people who own him before punish him for it for various reasons. The longer he spends with caretaker the stronger his voice gets, it starts out with gentle songs, and moves up to powerful rock lyrics and stuff depending on his mood.
Cam (or Rally, I'm having a hard time picking a name) - a fire elemental in a world where elementals are considered highly dangerous. His family helps him hide it, but one day a fire starts in his house (he believes he started it while he was sleeping). In his fear he accidentally makes it much worse, and his parents do not make it out. He's stuck in the house in a state of panic and fear and general mourning because he can't process that his fire is just what took his family, when his caretaker to be (another elemental named Rafiki/Rafi/Raf) runs in to save him. From then on he's deeply scared that he will hurt someone again, or worse.
Thing is, we learn that he wasn't the original cause of the fire. It was an agent of the government hoping to send him into a panic. When Cam discovers this, he goes after them, getting caught and put under the control of this mind control device called the halo (its a metal ring that is affixed to the head). Then, he is forced to go after his friends. He burns Rafiki severely enough that it even gives her trauma.
Rex - a post-wolf (meaning after wolf, not one who works with mail) supersoldier. Who develops high levels of anxiety around his technical studies when he struggles with reading due to dyslexia and adhd.
Static - a very sweet bean who is among the first humans to begin developing superpowers in one of my universes due to the presence of an alien virus on earth. He's in the army when he begins developing powers, the army that advocates for killing or catching such people. He is terrified that he will be the next one dragged off to some black ops base and pulled apart like some lab rat. He finds a group of others who are hiding their powers and they do a great job protecting and hiding each other.
But one day he comes crawling back to base to get the medic while having a broken leg. The medic tends to him, then runs off to rescue his friends. But this is about the time that the higherups have put together a few things. They show up and drag him off. It is his nightmare realized. And of course his friends find and save him, but he certainly had anxiety before, it is tripped after, he has a severe case of ptsd.
Taboo - is a scorpion humanoid, he named himself as such because he thought he was just unlucky when he was little and didn't realize people were afraid of him. He is an absolute cinnamon roll (who could kill you.) And the thought of people being scared of him makes him occasionally to nervous to act and really really sad (poor boi).
Flux - Flux does not remember what he used to be. He was sure he used to have flesh parts instead of metal ones but he doesn't anymore. He is a rescued lab rat, who was pulled apart and put back together so much his trauma response became appease. So even after rescue he constantly fears that he will do something wrong, and wind up back on that table. Thing is, he could never figure out what the criteria was that got him back there at the lab, and th le rules with these new people make even less sense!
I hope this helped with your science 😁

Harry and Rose get a second chance after the villa.
pairing: Harry/CMC Rose chapter 4 of 4 chapter word count: 1,009 read on ao3 taglist
Moving into a new flat had been an ordeal, but Rose was grateful for the newfound freedom of having her own place. As a parting gift, Rafi had also allowed her to take most of the furniture from their formerly shared flat.
“It’s more your style, anyway,” he’d told her, “and I think I’d prefer buying new things.”
He’d even helped her pack and move some of the furniture in the end. It was bittersweet, but after the final breakup conversation they agreed that they hoped to stay friends. Rose explained this to her brother when she caught him up on everything that had happened.
“It’s not that he’s a bad guy, it’s that we don’t work as a couple. I’ll be happy to still have him in my life in the long run, I think,” she’d told him.
John, carrying a potted plant up the stairs to Rose’s new flat had agreed. “I think this was the best case scenario, Ro, really.”
“Exactly.”
“And I really like Harry, you know.”
Rose did know. John and Harry had been thick as thieves since they’d been introduced. The three of them had already had multiple FuryStone game nights together since Harry and Rose had begun officially dating—though John resented the fact that Rose learned to play for Harry’s sake after refusing to play the game with him for years.
Three months after the breakup, at one such game night, Harry began an elaborate soft-launch campaign of Rose on his Instagram story. He posted an artsy picture of just her hands, one holding a glass of wine, the other holding a video game controller. Over the course of several weeks, he committed to this bit, slowly revealing more and more of her identity until enough people caught on that a couple gossip magazines announced their rumored relationship for them.
“I think I like it this way,” Rose remarked, reading one article that had so few actual details to report on that it had actually written a very sweet endorsement of Harry and Rose as a couple. “All the details being ours and ours alone.”
“Me too,” Harry agreed. “Makes it feel a bit more special.”
The greatest hurdle in keeping their relationship from being too public had been working together. Rose’s office door had always been glass, so she recognized that some people might have had their private suspicions, but things felt just that much more treacherous after the news of her separation from Rafi broke.
Once things were out in the open, though, Rose greatly enjoyed having the ability to share lunch with her boyfriend every day. They sat next to each other at her desk most days, bumping elbows for the sake of a shared joke between them, stealing kisses when they knew no one was looking.
-
Harry told Rose he loved her a week before their six month anniversary.
The timing felt right, then, but he’d been falling for a long time.
He’d brought his work laptop over to her flat and had been doing some debugging work at her kitchen table while she made dinner. He always felt most at home with her in these pockets of domestic bliss. Loved admiring the peaceful air with which she moved around the kitchen humming her favorite songs.
Overwhelmed with affection for her, Harry stood from the table and crossed the kitchen to wrap his arms around her from behind. He stood there for a moment at the stove, silent, breathing in her scent as it lingered with the smell of sizzling onions and herbs in the pan.
“You alright, love?” Rose asked. She’d been long-suffering in listening to him complain all week about the new project he’d been assigned to. She probably assumed he’d hit a wall with debugging and was seeking solace from the lines of code on his screen.
He rested his chin on her shoulder, kissed her jaw through her hair. “Nope, just missed you.”
She spun around, catching him around the waist and scooting them away from the open flame to continue their flirting. “Missed me from two feet away?”
“Yep.” He kissed her, closing the line of questioning before she could tease him further. He pulled back, weaving his fingers into her curls. “Missed you terribly.”
“You’re funny.” Rose giggled, kissed his nose.
Melting under her clear gaze, Harry couldn’t hold his feelings back any longer.
“I love you,” he said. “I love spending time with you.”
Rose’s eyes shot wider for just a second as she failed to hide her surprise. Then, her face softened, a faint grin found her lips. Time froze for Harry as he hoped for her to return his affections. He so rarely felt nervous around her these days, but his pulse raced in the silence.
Harry had never said those words to someone he was dating before but, as soon as he’d said them, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to take the words back. They were true, they rang clear. They felt right.
“I love you too,” she said. She pulled herself closer, laying her head in the crook of his neck.
His face flushed, warm with joy and pride and an overflowing heart.
“I love you,” he told her again. He held her tighter, pressed a kiss to her temple.
Since being reunited by happenstance, Harry found that his former relationship with Rose had been transformed from something unattainable into something both wholly new and completely familiar. He remembered holding her like this in the villa for the brief time they were together, remembered what it had felt like to start falling for her for the first time.
Like the ship of Theseus, all the functions and feelings of the whole had remained the same, but all the parts had been swapped and upgraded. Harry felt all the butterflies for her, but none of the anxiety or uncertainty. He’d smoothed the edges that grated against her.
Harry and Rose had looked up together to find that they shared a stronger foundation beneath their feet.
- thank you so much for the love and support on this fic, I'm really happy that people enjoyed it. this was something I wrote purely for my own enjoyment, so it was such a lovely surprise getting all the sweet comments i did. I love Rose and Harry, so I mayyyy have another fic or two about them planned for the future.

The Nasal Voice Debate: Is Himesh Reshammiya a Pioneer or a Trendsetter?
Himesh Reshammiya, a trailblazer in Bollywood’s music industry, is one of the most polarizing figures due to his distinctive nasal singing style. Whether you’re a fan or a skeptic, his voice has undeniably left an indelible mark on Indian music. While some hail him as a pioneer who dared to be different, others argue that his unique tone has had a mixed reception. In this article, we’ll dive deep into the “nasal voice” debate and explore how Himesh Reshammiya became both a trendsetter and a topic of endless discussion.
1. How Himesh Reshammiya’s Voice Became His USP
When Himesh Reshammiya transitioned from being a music director to a playback singer, his nasal tone was immediately noticed. It wasn’t common in Bollywood’s music scene, which traditionally celebrated deep, resonant voices like those of Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi. Yet, Himesh didn’t shy away from showcasing his unique style.
His first major hit as a singer, Aashiq Banaya Aapne, became a chartbuster, with audiences hooked to its soulful yet unconventional delivery.
His choice to embrace this nasal tone instead of modifying it for mass appeal demonstrated his confidence in his craft.
2. Polarized Reactions to His Singing Style
Himesh Reshammiya’s singing immediately divided audiences and critics.
Supporters: Many applauded him for daring to experiment and breaking away from the stereotypes of Bollywood playback singing. His nasal tone added an emotional intensity to romantic and melancholic songs.
Critics: On the other hand, purists and some industry insiders critiqued his voice as lacking range or finesse. Memes and jokes about his nasal tone became common, but they only added to his popularity in a meme-driven world.
3. How His Voice Influenced a New Wave of Singing
Himesh’s success as a singer inspired a shift in Bollywood’s music scene.
His popularity encouraged other music directors and singers to experiment with unconventional vocal styles.
He proved that commercial success could come from distinctiveness, not just technical perfection.
Several new-age singers like Arijit Singh and Atif Aslam, while stylistically different, have also embraced unique vocal quirks that resonate emotionally with listeners.
4. Artistic Risks and Commercial Payoffs
The business of Bollywood music is deeply tied to numbers, and Himesh Reshammiya’s voice proved to be a lucrative asset for producers.
Songs like Jhalak Dikhlaja, Tera Suroor, and Hookah Bar not only topped charts but also dominated radio stations and party playlists.
Himesh’s music videos further amplified his popularity. His on-screen presence, paired with his signature voice, gave him a dual appeal as a singer and performer.
5. Why His Voice Resonates with Listeners
Himesh’s voice is more than just a nasal tone—it’s a combination of raw emotion and vulnerability. His tracks often focus on themes of heartbreak, love, and longing, which resonate deeply with Indian audiences.
His songs have a storytelling quality that makes listeners feel connected to the emotions he’s portraying.
Additionally, the simplicity and repeatability of his melodies make them easy for fans to hum and remember.
6. The Evolution of Himesh Reshammiya’s Voice Over the Years
Despite sticking to his nasal style, Himesh has continuously evolved his singing approach.
His recent tracks, like Teri Meri Kahani and Adhuri Zindagi, showcase a more refined, balanced use of his voice.
He’s also ventured into classical-inspired tracks, proving his versatility and growth as a vocalist.
Conclusion The debate around Himesh Reshammiya’s nasal voice is as enduring as his career. For some, he’s a pioneer who dared to bring individuality to Bollywood playback singing. For others, he’s a trendsetter who shifted the focus from perfection to authenticity. Regardless of opinions, Himesh Reshammiya’s contribution to Bollywood’s musical landscape is undeniable. His bold choices and unique voice have forever altered how we perceive and celebrate music.
