Ned: swimming. Oh man he has big swimmer energy. I will not elaborate. Daryl does too.

Jane Penvellyn (in a few years): DRESSAGE. Oh my god. All the Penvellyns are dressage. It’s a linage of dressage. That whole family is so dressage coded. Except for Alan, he did modern pentathlon.

a/n: alright, here's the first chapter! this story has been in my head for a while, and it is nice to get it out into an actual piece of work. i'm not the most experienced writer, so bear with me here. i'll also be slow to update because i start college tomorrow and i've got a full course load!

sim sighed, mustering up any remaining courage she could.

"go on," the soft voice of the team's head coach urged, nudging her gently. tightening her grip on the knob of her crutch, sim pushed the door open and took a few tentative steps into the locker room. she let out the breath she was holding, realizing that none of them had yet noticed her presence.

sim took a moment to absorb the sight in front of her. the lionesses, in all their glory, having a laugh as one millie bright held a training shirt out of the reaches of ella toone, a smirk on her face as the younger (and shorter) footballer jumped up and down.

"hey, girls," sarina called out to the room, gathering the attention of group. a hush fell over the group as they turned toward the locker room entrance. "we've found someone to fill the position of social media manager. this is sim," the woman said, motioning for sim to step forward.

taking in a deep breath, she waved shyly, letting out a soft "hi" in greeting. the weight of the team's gaze rested heavy on the young girl, speculative eyes analyzing her figure. though sim wasn't going to actually play on the team, she was aware that her role as the social media manager meant she'd be spending quite a bit of time with these girls, following them around training and travelling with them to matches and camps. she desperately wanted to be liked by them, if not for her own personal sense of validation, then at least for the fact that it would make her job much easier.

ella toone was the first one to speak. "what's with the crutch?" the question was quickly followed by a sharp squeak, as millie elbowed the girl in her side, the rest of the girls letting out an exasperated sigh at the invasive question.

sim's lips quirked up in a smile, the worry in her chest easing a bit. this will be a riot, she thought to herself.

"jesus, ella, we told you to be normal," sim heard someone speak out.

"no, no, it's alright. honestly, i'd much rather you ask me to my face instead of just whispering about it behind my back," she said, a hint of confidence projecting her voice around the room. "i took a bit of a fall playing rugby a year or so back. haven't been able to walk right without the crutch or a knee brace since."

"see? at least someone here appreciates my curiosity!" ella threw her hands up in the air.

"lack of tact, more like," rachel muttered under her breath.

"hey, if i'm going to be following you lot around with a camera all the time, it's only fair that you know a few things about me as well," sim defended.

ella rushed up, throwing an arm around sim's shoulders, pulling the girl into her side. sim tensed slightly at the contact, but relaxed when ella called out to the room, "see, i already like this one."

"alright, that's enough," sarina interjected. "ella, since you're so taken with sim, you can show her around the practice facility and help her find her office. alessia, you'd better go with. i'm not sure i trust tooney on her own." ella whined at the dig, but steered sim out of the locker room without much protest. "rachel, millie, leah, follow me. i need a quick word."

the three girls shared a confused look as they followed their coach out into the hall. "look, i don't know what we're supposed to have done, but-"

"you're not in trouble," sarina cut rachel off. "you three are natural leaders on this squad so i'm coming to you first. one of sim's professors from her last year of university referred her for the position. she's not very... experienced. she's only a year out of university, but her professor and i go way back and he asked me to pull a few strings." sarina paused for a breath, not missing the increasingly confused looks the younger girls shared.

"right, what's that got to do with us?" leah queried, cocking her head to the side.

"her professor, thomas, asked me to look out for her. he didn't say much, but just make sure sim feels welcome, alright? i know she's not going to be on the pitch with you, but it would mean a lot if you just put in some effort." the manager didn't say anything else before walking in the direction of the pitch.

"she's so cryptic sometimes," rachel groaned.

"are we meant to babysit her or something?" added leah, leaning against the doorframe into the locker room.

an inquisitive frown took over millie's face. "coach was definitely being weird just now, but it's not a big ask. you guys know how important every role is on the team, from equipment manager to captain on the pitch. let's just show the kid a little extra love, yeah?"

the others nodded before turning to head back into the locker room to don their training kits.

"so you said you took an awkward fall, but i still don't quite understand how that leads to an injury so severe-" ella was cut off by yet another elbow to the side, this time coming from one alessia russo.

"she just got here and you've already started an interrogation!" alessia exclaimed.

"why is everyone so determined to punish my curiosity?" ella demanded. sim chuckled at the banter between the two blondes.

they were currently walking along the sidelines of one of the many practice pitches. she was enjoying taking on a more passive role at the moment, listening to her two tour guides bicker as she took in the environment. occasionally, they would point out attractions and talk about different parts of the facility. sim was content to feel the grass crunch below her feet and the light breeze on her face. she longed to be back on the field, passing a ball around or running tackling drills. she silently cursed her bad leg before deciding to put an end to the ensuing argument going on around her.

"it was raining quite a bit that day. it would've been fine, but we also happened to be playing on an absolutely shit pitch. i turned to offload the ball but my boot was stuck, so it was like the rest of my body pivoted while my right knee and down stayed put. add to that the fact that the defender slipped in the mud and landed her tackle below my knees instead of above, and it was a recipe for disaster. meniscus, ACL, MCL, all of it was just wrecked," the new hire explained.

sim saw the two forwards cringe in her periphery. "i'm so sorry," alessia said softly, reaching out to set a hand on sim's shoulder.

"it's not a huge deal. no point dwelling on the past right?" sim replied, sending alessia a tight-lipped smile as she shrugged her hand away.

in actuality, it was a massive deal. sim had loved rugby for as long as she could remember. the pitch was her refuge. when she was out on the field, nothing else mattered except getting the next try, making the conversion, getting good hits, and supporting her teammates. but it hurt too much to think about her nonexistent rugby career, so sim carried on as if nothing had changed. as well as she could with a permanently fucked up knee, anyway.

alessia couldn't imagine the pain sim had had to go through, physically and mentally. recovery from an injury like that couldn't be easy, and she couldn't fathom not playing the game she loved so dearly.

the two were pulled out of their thoughts by ella's next question. "so want to see the meal room or the recovery pool next?"

Cait comp'd her book to The Locked Tomb. THE LOCKED TOMB COMBINED WITH LORE OLYMPUS. NO. NO NO NO. IN WHAT WORLD ARE THESE TWO IN THE SAME SENTENCE. I NEED TO SCREAM.

Apologies in advance, but these are two polar opposite series and it's a joke Cait thinks she can combine the two without Gideon Nav manifesting in her apartment and throwing hands. Oh my god.

I won't try to do spoilers here because I think you would personally vibe with the series, it's right up your alley and I highly recommend the audiobooks, especially while drawing. It's currently three books and the last one (the fourth book) should be out in Fall 2024. The Locked Tomb is starkly gothic and dark (gruesome death, resurrection, body horror, weird twins, turbo cancer (an actual quote from the books), and so much more), full to the brim with horror, sci-fi, and modern-day political commentary, and is apologetically queer as fuck. I'm talking lesbian enemies to friends to lovers, I'm talking Maori-coded rugby player who loves to talk about her porn magazines while trying to keep her homeless chihuahua of a girlfriend from getting herself killed (said chihuahua controls skeletons), I'm talking using clever ways to sneak in memes, I'm talking loving the side characters as much as you love the leads and the author loves them all too, I'm talking Catholic guilt but make it sexy and gay, I'm talking a literal ghost shows up with a fucking gun. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's a series you need to re-read multiple times to try and figure out every little detail and people to this day are still finding out foreshadowing from the first book alone. There is no random lines or dropped ideas, every little detail is planned out and connects. It's great.

To compare a series made by an insanely smart and openly queer woman (who is also from New Zealand, shout out to Tamsyn Muir) to a series that obsesses over a straight couple down to making it a Blue Boy and Pink Girl, a series that acts like putting in queer characters are a chore, a series that treats sexual assault like a minor inconvenience at worst, a series that can't even plan a week ahead much less years, a series that is written by an immature woman-child like Rachel, is so offensive to me.

Well damnnn I'll take this as a glowing recommendation! It def sounds like something I'd enjoy. I've been wanting to get more into audiobooks so maybe I'll make The Locked Tomb my first stop ;3 If/when I do get around to it, I'll definitely let y'all know my thoughts! <3

PJ (Rachel Sennott) y Josie (Ayo Edebiri) son dos adolescentes, amigas desde la infancia, que son lesbianas que creen que van a morir vírgenes antes de la universidad. Su plan para el último curso es que se extienda el rumor de que han estado en un centro de menores a ver si con ese perfil logran ligarse a las populares Brittany (Kaia Gerber) e Isabel (Havana Rose Liu) que son las chicas de sus sueños respectivamente. Para ello cuentan con la ayuda de otras de las marginadas Hazel (Ruby Cruz), Sylvie (Summer Joy Campbell), etc.

Se establece el rumor, y de que también saben pelear, por eso forman una especie del club de la lucha, mediante el paraguas del feminismo, enseñar a las chicas a defenderse como parte de su supervivencia en el instituto. Todo el mundo se lo cree y ellas pueden acercarse a las chicas de sus sueños.

Lo consiguen y logran un lugar donde apoyarse, defenderse entre ellas, y tener algo en común, por lo que lo de ligar se queda un poco de lado. Pero ya es tarde, porque Josie e Isabel se han enamorado, y PJ y Britanny han quedado como amigas. Justo cuando mejor están se destapa que nunca fueron a un centro de menores y su mentira se cae a pedazos.

Para volver a tener su estatus, y que las vuelvan a querer, deciden sabotear al equipo contrario de rugby y defender a Jeff (Nicholas Galitzine) jugador estrella y novio de Isabel (con el que ha vuelto después de las mentiras de las chicas), y lo consiguen, aunque al principio nadie las cree.

Es la típica peli como american pie, colega donde está mi coche, dos colgaos muy fumaos, etc. Cine adolescente con tramas poco creíbles que se resuelven siempre de la misma manera. Entretenida, pero no memorable.

I would recommend this season to my friends. I wouldn't rewatch this season.

I can't believe we're not getting any episode end bloopers. This is the worst finale. Everything about what Devin did and said is trash. I want to vomit. We don't just hurt Jenn's Vietnamese mother like that. We can't play with Jenn like this. I felt for Rachel tearing up too because like why are we treating women like trash?? Devin just isn't making sense. I hate when men are like I can't meet your expectations. You're basically just saying I'm trash let me go. We hate how we're treating Jenn this finale. She's hurting and we're like let's rewatch your proposal and also you're such a powerful woman it's okay!! like nooo. She's crying out here.

Sam M sometimes talks like he's rapping and I don't love it.

Alex mentions the Horne Section podcast and said it took a lot of preparation to do and it basically cost them money to do, hence why they don't do it any more, even though they'd like to do it again.

Alex says his family went to Canada on holiday for a month and it was the best holiday they've ever had.

Alex said he wanted to be a sports reporter and started to persue that at University but wasn't really good enough. He then asks if they've started the podcast and apologises a lot when he realises they have (he's so sweet).

He talks a bit about not being very sporting but spending a lot of time trying to come up with silly games and making TV formats from those ideas.

Alex says he played golf with his 14 year old and that his son beat him (with a handicap, he mentions). He also talks about not being very good at golf.

Alex talks about the concept of Taskmaster and the origins of it. He says with the show, he has to come up with 70 tasks a year and called the rule to never repeat a task 'stupid'.

Alex talks about a book they got with games to play on holiday and describes some of them, including Eyemaster and Mr Freeze.

He talks about wanting to be a journalist the same as Rachel, but he couldn't take it seriously and says he was doing stand-up comedy as a hobby as well at the time.

He talks about the origins of The Horne Section. He says that a lot of people think he can play an instrument and that he writes all the music.

Chris Hoy talks about when he heard the Horne Section's song Chris Hoy loves a saveloy and Alex apologises that they didn't ask permission first but luckily Chris really loves the song and wasn't upset at all.

It's mentioned that Chris met Tim Key before he met Alex and Alex refers to Tim as his former friend (he's clearly joking).

Chris and Alex reveal that when Chris was on the podcast, Alex hadn't told the band or Tim (Key) that he's asked Chris to say that he hated one of the songs and get in a huff about it and everyone was really awkward about it because they thought it was genuine.

Alex says he invited Peter Crouch to his birthday but he didn't come. He says about his and Tim's shared birthday at the pub.

He talks about Chesham United.

Alex talks about the charity football match and how he injured his finger 4 minutes in.

Alex talks about when he was filming cricket on horseback that he tore his hamstring playing rugby so he spent a lot of time limping about during it.

Alex also talks about getting smooshed by a couple of horses as a kid when he was at a polo match and having to go to hospital. Understandable why he was so nervous around horses when he did cricket on horseback now.
