This dress is onscreen for all of about five seconds as part of a "trying on dresses" montage. Rachel's friends aren't impressed by it, and it definitely wouldn't be right for the ultra-elegant party she's attending, but I still think it's fun. (Gifs borrowed from @ziseviolet's post here.)

I finally got around to watching this film in full a week or two ago (it was about to go off Netflix, so that got me motivated). I thought it was delightful, and I loved the costumes! A lot of them are from top fashion brands, but I doubt that includes this one.

Crazy Rich Asians: Nick Young is TRASH!

These days I keep watching Crazy Rich Asians and Nick is such a DICK! He is such a jerk for keeping Rachel in the dark about his wealth.

In the beginning I understood that Nick wanted Rachel to love him for who he is and not for his wealth and that was the main reason why he didn't tell her the truth... but after not telling her after being together for a whole year while also preparing to pop the question was just WRONG!

He didn't hide the truth to protect Rachel, he did it to protect himself. Nick failed to protect Rachel throughout the ENTIRE movie.

He didn't tell her about his family's wealth until they arrived at the airport, but he only told her a shred of the truth. Rachel didn't learn just how truly powerful or wealthy his family really was until she was told by her collage best friend!

Since he neglected to tell Rachel about his family, she wasn't prepared to meet them. Example; If she had gone to the welcoming party in her original outfit, she would've been SEVERELY undressed for the occasion and would've been more mocked than she already was. (And AGAIN Peik Lin saved her by providing her with a appropriate outfit for the occasion.)

Last and worst of all, Nick didn't protect her from the wrath of his mother who immediately disapproved of Rachel the moment she first heard of her. Instead of defending the girl he loves and hoped to marry, Nick let his mother walk all over Rachel while also making excuses for her behavior!

Honestly if he really loved Rachel then he would've trusted her with the truth much sooner instead of waiting until the last possible moment, throwing her to the wolves and letting them have their fun while he did NOTHING to help or protect her till the Very Last Moment! (Heck Rachel's friend is rich and Rachel likes her for who she is and not her wealth!)

Despite their hostility towards her, Rachel wants nothing more than Nick’s friends and family to like her. She does everything in her power to fit in with them, from going to their social functions, to dressing how they dress, to even speaking Chinese with them. She has no qualms about expressing her feelings about it to Nick, and other people who show her kindness. Rachel is shown to be an effective communicator in that regard, and is easily able to communicate her feelings and values to other people.

Rachel is able to quickly pick up on things in her surroundings, based on details she observes and hunches. She is quickly able to figure out that Eleanor doesn’t like her, based on a few smaller details. She is able to figure out Eleanor’s “game” and is able to play it effectively, by using her Fe to appeal to her emotions. She is able to figure out that Eleanor doesn’t like her because she’s poor, etc.
