Early MGM personnel record filled out and signed by Grace Kelly in 1952.

In 1952, Kelly inked a seven-year contract with MGM under two conditions: first, that one out of every two years, she had time off to work in the theatre; and second, that she be able to live in New York City at her residence in Manhattan House, at 200 E. 66th Street. She would soon go to Nairobi, Kenya, to begin the production of the film Mogambo, replacing Gene Tierney, who dropped out at the last minute due to personal issues. Kelly later told Hollywood columnist Hedda Hopper, 'Mogambo had three things that interested me: John Ford, Clark Gable, and a trip to Africa, with expenses paid. If Mogambo had been made in Arizona, I wouldn't have done it.' For her turn as Linda Nordley, Kelly would be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Light Bringer, random thoughts (spoilers)

I am shattered. LB stands high in my favorites simply due to the amount of Cassius we got. I am so glad for it. But boy, his death…No. That is not how Cassius Bellona was supposed to die.

LB started a little off balance, the writing was a little shaky and the plot a little too wonky. For example, Sevro’s auction and escape were a little baffling, making the whole foreshadowing of him getting brain diddled in DA fall flat. Has Pierce deceived us as a ‘gotcha’ moment, or is he abandoning that plot point because he found something better? Is Sevro actually brain diddled and will wreck havoc in Red God? Dunno.

I had my doubts at first. Mainly because I did not really enjoy Dark Age. I still think it was messy, introducing so many new characters and components that felt very off for the RR world. PB fixes a few of those plot points in LB, but also completely disregards some (Figment, for example).

Things do kick off though, and I found myself completely immersed into the story. I think it’s entirely thanks to the characters’ and their relationships more so than the actual plot. PB can certainly write battle scenes and delivers really good space opera, but this book shines thanks to the brotherhood and sisterhood that flourish. I adored seeing Cassius and Lyria paire up together. I loved Cassius and Darrow reconnect, trust one another, banter and talk of the past and of their feelings. It’s exactly what I wanted to see in this book, and I wish we’d have more of it in Red God.

Mustang had a few chapters but I feel so distant from her, anyone else? Not much happened other than the attack on Phobos, and I feel her chapters could’ve been cut in the end. They were just a way to see the attack up close, and didn’t really spare any time on her own character development. I do hope we get more of her in the last book and she gets the same attention and care the boys have had thus far.

As for Lysander…Fuck Lysander.

A never-before-seen batch of 42 love letters from a teenage Bob Dylan to his high school sweetheart are up for auction in Boston through Nov. 17.

There are early drawings and photo-booth shots — one appears to be among the earliest-known signed photos of his, according to Boston’s RR Auction House.

So I was scrolling around on RR auction (after hearing about their recent scandal with Tom's estate) just to see if what of Tom they had and I had found this they had sold in the past. They titled it "Signed letter: Petty rejects a critic's claim that he uses intolerant lyrics"

Of course I had to read what he had written and figured I'd share it on here cause why not it's where I share some TP stuff I find also it was interesting to find at least to me it was and I think archiving things is important so here it is. I even took the time to type out what it said in case you can't read his handwriting. Yes there's a typo with one word but that's Tom's typo and I left it in there. Also hope I spelled the person who letter this is addressed to last name correctly.

"After reading the letter in the May 28 issue, concerning myself and my distasteful lyrics. I felt a little confused and that a reply to A.K. Odamten (?) might be in order. Mr Odamten (?), relax, and please listen to the entire record to strangered in the night. Yes I do say 'black bastard' in the 3rd verse of the tune. The complete line is "I heard some woman scream "goddamn you old black bastard you blown away my dreams!" (Scribbled out is the song is about murdered. The woman is w) Obtaining the complete lyrics to the tune (scribbled out might help set) or listening to (scribbled out the lyrics) it might help sooth this aching (?) social paronia. (it's spelled paranoia Tom Christ learn to spell) To the best of my (And island records) knowledge the record is not censored, blipped or blurred at all. Are you sure you own this LP? As for Luna the song has nothing at all to do with blacks, whites or purples. Does "Black and yellow pools of light" imply distaste for black and orientals? You're taking the record and yourself far too seriously. I ain't no racist. I don't even drive. (signed) Tom Petty"

'Breakup' letter from Marlon Brando,

Handwritten letter to French actress Solange Podell, with whom he had shared a romantic relationship. Brando ostensibly wrote this letter not long after their separation. In full (spelling and grammar retained): 

“In order that you won’t think me a complete boor, I am writing you this letter to explain that because of an erratic, flighty, fly-by-night, temperament I wish not to humiliate and degrade your sentiments by seeing you only at my mood’s conveinence. 

Please accept this letter with an open heart as it is written with fourthright sincerity. I’m sorry I could not have tried harder to be less self indulgent and therewith, a little more compatable. My intuitions were flawlessly scroupulous, but my emotions, unfortunately, unstable. I will remember you with fondness, regard, and appreciation. When we meet in France (perhaps in October) I trust my behavior will be a trifle more adult.” 

Brando adds a postscript: 

“Please give my kind acknowledgements to your mother, if she’ll accept them.”
