Wriothesley has been through a lot.

His scars show a lot from the story, but not all. No one can see how he carries the pain of all the old injuries he suffered - he acquired some way before his time in Meropide.

But Neuvilette pays attention - and he notices when something is up. It can't skip Neuvilette's caring lilac eyes when Wriothesley gets hurt in the rink and moves just a bit differently, it can't escape his attention when seemingly without a reason but Wriothesley's body language changes.

Wriothesley is one to brush these off and ignore the pain - after all, he has been living this way for years. Of course, he takes care of himself (at least to a certain point) because he has to if he wants his body to function well enough.

He's only human...

...and Neuvilette knows.

He decided to offer Sigewinne a job in Meropide for many reasons (she could have said no, Neuvillette would allow it) and one of these was Wriothesley. It lets Neuvilette sleep better as he knows Sigewinne does all she can for his beloved.

It takes a long time into their relationship that Neuvilette dares to ask Wriothesley about these all. He can see what hurts from his movements, and he had left open questions before (those were joked away) - but it's different to hear the truth from him.

Talking about pain makes Wriothesley feel vulnerable and weak - but it's with Neuvillette and he trusts him enough to do this. He can't even be fully honest about these with Sigewinne - but he has enough faith in Neuvillette's love that he dares to say the truth. Even if it hurts him to do so.

Neuvillette thanks Wriothesley for his honesty, always. They both know it can be hard but sometimes, the whispered truth in the darkness, in the other's embrace, under warm blankets, feeling safe... Sometimes it can help to heal.
