Incident at Lower Richland High SchoolSheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of a 16-year-old male student from Lower Richland High School.Today, March 1, 2024 a 16-year-old student attempted to rob another student while at Lower Richland High School.  A fight ensued and both SROs tried to break up the fight.  The 16-year-old struck one SRO in the face and actively resisted being detained, causing the other SRO to dislocate his shoulder.  The SROs utilized their taser to subdue the suspect and he was placed under arrest.The SRO who was struck has been released from the hospital, while the other SRO is still being treated at the hospital for his shoulder.The 16-year-old has been charged with Strong Armed Robbery and two counts of Assault on a Police Officer while Resisting Arrest.  He is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in the juvenile wing. “This will not be tolerated,” Sheriff Lott said. “Our SROs are in school to protect the students, teachers and staff. This is not what school is about. Roseville Kindergarten

Roseville Kindergarten is a licensed multicultural Centre for up to 40 children aged between 3-5 years. They provide a welcoming, safe and stimulating environment where children become active learners through a variety of experiences each day.

In addition to a wide range of activities and experiences, they also offer daily sports program, music & movement and incursions based on the children's interests. They follow a play-based, child-directed approach to learning that recognizes children's natural curiosity and the role parents have in their education. Parents participate once a week in their children's class.

This school is rated as "Highly Rated" by the state of California and is among the best schools in the region. Its test scores are significantly above the state average, and it is closing the gap between high- and low-income students. However, this school has high suspension rates, which is an indicator of discipline problems.

The district’s full-day Transitional Kindergarten (TK) offers the first part of a two-year kindergarten experience, designed to meet young children’s social, emotional and physical needs while preparing them for the academic demands of traditional kindergarten.

TK is taught by credentialed teachers with early childhood expertise, and it uses a specialized curriculum aligned to kindergarten standards. This curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of 5-year-olds and reflects the latest research on how young children learn best. TK is offered at all RCSD school sites. Students who register for TK at a site other than their resident school will be placed on a space-available basis and will return to their resident school for regular kindergarten in the fall.

A recent study found that children who attend a public preschool are more likely to perform better in math, reading and science than those without such early education. This is especially true for low-income children, who have historically been less prepared when they enter elementary school. In order to help close this gap, Governor Gavin Newsom is expanding access to state-funded preschool for all four-year-olds in California, starting with a pilot program this fall in ten communities across the state. This is a huge step in the right direction for our kids, and I hope it will encourage more states to adopt universal pre-K.
