Trying to force myself to slow down a lot this year. It's okay that I'm not reading as fast or as often as I did before. It's okay that I don't write as fast or as often as I did before. It's okay that I'm not engaging in things I once did as often. It's okay to slow down without feeling guilty about it. No one is running after me with a damn bat. I don't need to be so hard on myself for no reason so I can keep finding the joy in it.
#creator affirmations#basically because I need to not be real dramatic about it lol#in other news I got a new adult coloring book and Friends themed crossword puzzle to decompress with lol#p.

if you're not reading the last book of SVSSS right now do you mind me asking what you are reading? I'm just curious!
Definitely! (though I warn you, I'm fundamentally incapable of reading only one thing at a time)
For physical books, I'm currently reading The Warden by Daniel M. Ford, the novelization of My Neighbour Totoro, and trying to keep up on Dracula Daily (i am failing this)
For audiobooks, I've been relistening to The Series of Unfortunate Events (because I never actually read them all when they were originally coming out) and I juuust finished This Census-Taker by China Miéville and Ogres by Adrian Tchaikovsky this weekend. I'm about to start A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers.
#i bounce between things a lot :P it all depends on *`~Vibes~`*#once i'm done The Warden i'll probably get started on SVSSS v4#this census-taker and ogres were both strange little novellas i was trying to wrap up so i spent a lot of time this weekend#working on a puzzle and just finishing them#completely bizarre but both gave me a lot to think about they both had some very cool writing and themes#as for a series of unfortunate events i'm officially the farthest i've ever been in the series!#i reread the first 3 books a ton - whenever i was at my friends house and she was doing homework when i wasn't since she was collecting the#but i kinda fell off them after the carnivorous carnival#waiting a whole year for the next book is hard when you're in elementary school!#anyway i'm enjoying them a lot as an adult i'm picking up way more nuance than i did as a kid (obviously)#and snicket's writing it always fun no matter the age#thanks for asking! i love an excuse to ramble about books >:3

I hate and love high fantasy at the same time. hate because the beginning is usually so confusing and descriptive with the characters talking about their versions of war and kingdoms. LOVE because as you read more and reach the end, everything finally clicks in place and you realize that all of it was hinted from the beginning and that satisfaction isn't comparable in the slightest.
#this also applies to when the fantasy starts with different characters' povs around the world#just for them to finally reunite and you find the missing puzzle all along#but reading multiple povs in high fantasy books is a pain in the ass in the beginning tho#but it's soooooo worth it#i remember experiencing this in tpotot#and it satisfied me more than any men could#also in case you guys are wondering#I'm currently reading malice by john gwynne#it's very confusing and slow so far#but I'm not dropping it#high fantasy#the priory of the orange tree#crescent city#reading#fantasy#adult fantasy#john gwynne

Review - I am up to readdddddd anything involving THE INHERITANCE GAMES universe. I love the series so very much. And I was really so excited to get to read Grayson and Jameson's book. Even though I liked the mystery, the riddles and secrets, family dynamics or chemistry between Avery and Jameson I felt very disappointed by THE BROTHERS HAWTHORNE.
First offffff!!!! the magic of the series, the spark was missing, many important fun characters like Libby, Max, Alisa, Rebecca, Thea, or even Oren, Nash and Xander (who were present) were missing.
If there is fifth book or any book in the future plzzzzzzzzz let all the characters be backkkkk. (fingers crossed 😃)
Gigi and Savannah are really are fun addition to the books.
I liked it, didn't love it .

Another thing I've noticed working as a children's librarian is like... kids get so Paralyzed By Choice and the adults in their lives never really register why. Like, for example, we have little scavenger hunt sheets in the children's section and when a kid completes it, they get to pick out a cute eraser from our prize basket. We also have a little toy prize chest as part of our "1000 books before Kindergarten" challenge for when kids complete 100 books--and kids will spend minutes carefully picking through everything while their parents are shooting us anxious looks like "sorry they're taking so long! I know this is silly and it's completely ridiculous that my child is taking so long to choose between a bath toy and a cube puzzle because these are cheap and arbitrary objects! Hurry up, Harper! Just pick something! You're embarrassing me!!" But in the kids' perspective, they already have so little control over what objects come into their lives, and in this case, the object represents labor and effort on their end, so of course they feel they must choose very carefully. I've always been an anxious and indecisive person, so it's striking to see how being rushed really doesn't help that and really only makes it harder for kids to figure out what they want.
