AH, THE FAMED SWANSEA, WALES GIG -- THE MOST PHOTOGRAPHED CRASS GIG EVER?
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on two photographs reportedly purchased on eBay of English anarcho punk bands CRASS and D.I.R.T., performing live at St. Phillips Community Centre, Swansea, Wales, UK, on September 24, 1981. The photos were eventually used as part of "The Art of Crass," an exhibition in Leicester, England, in June 2016.

in the end, it turns out the most punk activity is to sit around and masturbatorily debate what is and is not punk for years and decades

Punk is dead, long live...errr no, it's dead.
Did you ever hear of "Modernity?" The Youtube channel, I mean. Check out this video on the pathetic excuse for current punk rock: Raging for conformity! <link>

The punk movement/genre is interesting to me because it's all about fighting against society and not following the rules, that makes a rule in and of itself though. Blah blah rules have exceptions or whatever.
Anyway:
Tumblr media
That says "nazi punks to fuck off". Now, I was gonna make a joke about, with how punk works, saying that nazi punks aren't allowed is hypocritical, y'know, as a joke. Anyway, fuck that joke, I'm not making it now.
---------------------------------------------------
So, this is a punk band. Y'know punk, the thing where we say "fuck rules, fuck society and, most importantly, fuck you!" I like it a lot. Can you see an issue here?
Tumblr media
Now, I know this came from tiktok and they have rules surrounding censorship there, unfortunately I do not not give such a shit. The fact that you, as a punk band, are censoring this shit actively tells me you aren't very punk. I just don't think it's particularly punk to lay down nice and quietly and say "👉👈 i think the bad punks aren't nice" i get censorship exists but at the same time it only means that video reaches less people, that video in particular... the fact that you censored it tells me you wanted tons of people to see it whilst giving a fairly basic message... it's about as non-punk as it gets really... like yeah, you're angry, but who cares. You can't even express it in a good way because you're afraid the video will get less views. If you're going to censor at least do it creatively, because writing shit like that is what everyone does.
I'm just saying, punk was about being loud, unique, and angry. Honestly this is none of those things. Arguably, the most punk yhink about it is that it breaks the rules of what punk is, but that also feels like sort of bullshit excuse I'd make up as an artist, so I'm not fucking accepting that.
TL;DR - punk may not be dead but tiktok and the internet have their shoe wedged firmly down punk's throat and near nobody within punk cares because now they're all trying to appeal to the masses. Something that punk isn't built around.

The feud between The Exploited and Crass is still the funniest thing ever
Today it’s two groups of old people yelling about whether punk is dead or not, while at punk shows

I think “punk wasn’t political at first” is erasure of women, particularly women of color and queers who created and spearheaded the movement to go against their daily discrimination upfront and without apology and only for their contributions to the scene and their distinct leftist, feminist, anti racist and anti capitalist viewpoints to be erased and rewritten by yt posers who favored bands that had their apolitical or conservative viewpoints that still gets to some degree accepted by other yt punks in discourse to be pretty insulting.

STEVE IGNORANT -- PHIL FREE -- N.A. PALMER -- PETE WRONG -- PENNY RIMBAUD.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on English anarcho punk band CRASS (sans Eve Libertine), performing live at St. Phillips Community Centre, Swansea, Wales, UK, on September 24, 1981. 📸: Steve Rapport.
Didn't know more of these Swansea shots existed, so, these are a happy accident of sorts. Where the hell is Evie Libertine, though? 1981 had seen the release of the "Penis Envy" album after all, but you never see her in any shots at this particular gig.

i genuinely thought we had exhausted all topics of syscourse discussion but "is being pro-endo compatible with punk" is really a new level of low-stakes low-brow aestheticbrained sludge
