I have been working on a little pumpkin house for my critters. most of the furniture is handmade out of various kinds of cardboard, foam and fabric, as well as some early forays into knitting! I'm proudest of the little wood stove, which can be turned on and off. now they will be warm in this coming winter!

my upcoming plans include decorating the walls: it is very plain in there and I'm a fan of cluttered coziness. I'm thinking of doing some cloth canopies, maybe even embroidering some little tapestries, as I've gotten into that recently as well. I also want to add a hammock to the ceiling and a little nest on one of the walls, so everyone has a place to sleep! I also want to clean up the edges of the window into their little life, as its messy and crumbly right now.

as you can also see, there have been new additions to the family. a chestnut raccoon I found online, as well as a pickle weed hedgehog and a tiny tiny rabbit baby I got in a sea-themed blind bag. I have some more critters which were added to my collection, but I left them at home! (I found a pretty rare critter in my old playboxes!!)

Day 29: Massive + Halloween Decorations

You ever make your house into a pumpkin for Halloween, and a massive cat decides your house is the perfect spot for laying?

In 2023, the Pumpkin House attracted visitors from 24 countries and 45 states, and Griffith said Saturday afternoon that he already counted representatives of a dozen countries attending this year. The Pumpkin House serves as the centerpiece for the Ceredo Kenova AutumnFest, which began in fall 2010 to give locals and visitors something extra to do while visiting the display. AutumnFest brings in vendors, live performances, a parade, an arts and crafts show, a bake off and canning contest and more to the community. Griffith said the Kenova Pumpkin House has became a family tradition, welcoming in reunions, proposals and even hosting a wedding one year for a couple who had their first date at the display. This year, two proposals were carved into pumpkins.

The Great Pumpkin House

Every halloween season, the house at 748 Beech Street in Kenova, West Virginia is transformed into the Great Pumpkin House. The owner, Ric Griffith and hundreds of other volunteers carve thousands of pumpkins for display at his home every halloween.
