“Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.”― Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird The Kingdoms of Savannah George Dawes Green. Savannah is a beautiful city to visit—full of history, good food, and atmosphere. But, for the people who live there, there is a darker side which can go unseen unless you know where to look. I'm here to bring fluff and happiness back with this ♥️
ok so get this: my phone showed your ask as a red heart. so here I was, typing away about deep-throating popsicles and fingering milkshakes when I opened your ask on my laptop and saw a... white heart?! absolute witchcraft!
and since now i don't know what's right-side up from upside down, i offer a mash up: ❤️+🤍 or 'first kiss / realization' + 'kiss at the wedding / milestone'
p.s. thanks for the fluff and happiness injection. i needed it

Kara loved going to weddings. What wasn’t there to love? There were flowers, delicious foods, endless dancing, and, best of all, that excuse to confess your deepest feelings in front of friends and family to the love of your life.
She’d watched her sister and Kelly share their vows, commit to each other, and look darn good while doing it. She danced with Nia and Brainy to Bye-Bye-Bye which was technically of Alex’s no-play list, but Nia bribed the DJ. She stuffed her face with cake alongside Esme who was stubbornly fighting off the sleepies. She even had the most amazing pep-talk slash hug slash reveal with Lena.
The very best kind.
The kind that left her warm and seen and cherished.
The kind that left her wanting that same feeling for forever.
The kind that felt like a Red Sun: held and understood and home.
So why did she feel so… heavy and twisted inside?
Stumped. She was stumped. She was also in a slump. Her lower lip was quite close to a grump. But how to overcome this hump?
She shook her head. Now was definitely not the time for Dr. Seuss rhymes. Though silently she argued there was always time for Dr. Seuss rhymes.
Serious Kara won out. So instead of rhymes she stewed. She stewed and brewed and searched for a clue(d) -
“What’s up homie?” Nia asked, sliding across the bench and tipsily colliding into Kara’s side. “You missed REO Speedwagon. Even J’onn gave it his all; might’ve thrown out his back though. Poor guy. I am parched.”
Kara bit her lip and scowled and really really wanted a rhyme scheme to get her through this. “You love Brainy, right?”
“Woa, left field there swinger,” Nia smirked. Her attention was on the array of glasses with colorful drinks littering the table behind them. “Sure do.”
Kara slouched and let her chin find the palm of her hand. “So how did-”
“You think this is sour raspberry?” Nia interrupted, a cup of bright blue liquid appearing under Kara’s nose. “Or tropical punch,” she said.
Kara sniffed the cup. “Tropical punch.”
“Bonus,” Nia exclaimed and took a long drag. “You were saying?”
“Um,” Kara began without an ounce of heroic chutzpah. “How did you know?”
The question made the ‘heavy’ feeling morph into butterflies. It did nothing for the twisting. In fact, it exacerbated the twisting. It wrangled around her heart and made her breaths shallow with nerves. Definitely no chutzpah.
“Easy: He’s my person. My ride or die. To infinity and beyond. The Clyde to my Bonnie.”
“Are you sure that’s who you want to compare-”
“Look, it doesn’t matter. They went out with a bang,” Nia scoffed. “But fine, point taken,” Nia conceded then pulled another deep swig. “He’s the Orpheus to my Persephone.”
“I think you mean Eurydice.”
“Sure.” Her lips were now a faint shade of blue.
“But also, didn’t Orpheus fail-?”
“He did no such thing!” Nia proclaimed with rather unfounded enthusiasm. Juice sloshed onto the grass. “He went to the depths of hell for the woman he loved. He descended through souls and ghouls and fools-”
Kara wondered if this was the rhyme she needed. Maybe it was, because it propelled her up and across the lawn and so focused was she that Nia’s parting words of ‘Go get her, champ!’ fell of deaf ears.
She stumbled over lawn darts and accidentally destroyed a life-size jenga game. She nearly walked straight through the barn wall and into a decorative trough. She walked straight past the cake without grabbing a slice.
Kara Zor El was on a mission.
And that mission was less than ten feet away, laughing and radiating like the sun rose and shone only for her. Her nose scrunched as the smile spread wider when Kara approached. It faded only slightly when the palpable look of fear on Kara’s face was noticed.
“Kara? Is everything ok?” she asked, stepping away from the group and brushing a reassuring thumb over Kara’s arm.
They stepped more steps until the steps led them to crickets and tree frogs and only the white noise of people. And ever the Pulitzer winning wordsmith, these were the words that managed to trip out of her mouth:
“I want to be your Orpheus.”
Lena’s mouth parted and eyes narrowed. “You… what?”
“I want to… shoot, no I mean…”
“You want to trap me in hell?” Lena asked. And bless the straight face she was trying to keep, but between Kara’s fish mouthing and absolutely butchering of whatever heartfelt words she had hoped would appear out of thin air, Lena’s face was doing some serious gymnastics to keep from smirking.
“He didn’t fail! He… he…”
Straws. Those were the things Kara was grasping for. Humiliatingly limp, paper straws.
“I want to fight off souls and ghouls and fools for you. I want the chance. I want you and the world to know that you are the person I’d move heaven and hell for you, because you make me feel whole. You make me feel seen and wanted and loved and I just… I just want you. And I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to realize it but I-”
Lips.
Soft lips.
Soft lips and deep sighs and the flutter of long dark hair tickling her cheeks.
And then a sigh.
And then a ‘wowzers’.
And then a laugh.
And then again.

not having talked to another human being in person for five days will have you standing in your apartment listening to a band you haven't payed attention to since you were a teenager fully bursting into tears. its whatever but im just saying i probably understand the front bottoms music enough in this specific point of time i could argue they are deserving of a nobel prize in literature. our generation's dylan. you just need to be experiencing a mixture of seasonal depression disorder and regular locked in your room disorder with some "i should be nicer to my mom" guilt and "i'm dying" anxiety thrown in there but i promise "Whenever I'm alone or feeling lonely I pretend I can play the drums inside my head And I am good I love these songs, they love my songs" is like really meaningful and poignant i swearrr. im throwing pultizers at them

All of these happen in White Girl in Danger, I am making none of them up, and what I mention here is barely scratching the surface
Hair Cancer is an important plot point, and the only treatment for it is dyeing your hair blonde
The writer of the musical (Pultizer Prize winning songwriter and playwright Michael R. Jackson) has a self insert character who shows up at the very end and has a song explaining why he created the musical
During that song, he also admits he hates Beyoncé (but he doesn’t HATE Beyoncé)
At the end of Act 1, the main character (who is a teenager) wins the Presidential Election. Said election was never mentioned until she wins it.
She also wins states including “Owhiteo” and “Whitesconsin”
A girl who’s murdered comes back as a ghost, and the way they represent that is by painting her face white and making fog come out of her vagina
The sentence “I’m going to travel the Black Bourgeoisieverse” is said at one point and it makes complete sense in context
There is a spontaneous Lesbian Sex musical number. It comes literally out of nowhere, and the characters draw attention to this
During intermission a bunch of fake commercials air, advertising products including “Anti-White Little Debbie’s Snack Cakes”
At one point it’s mentioned that one of the characters is running a human trafficking ring. It is never brought up again
A character is introduced as another character’s, “hot twin sister who’s even more racist,” and she leads a January 6th style insurrection against the main character (who, again, was elected president)
Also the fictional town that the show takes place in is called “Allwhite”

Regimes Around the World Are Starting to TEAM UP (w/ Anne Applebaum) | Shield of the Republic
Anne's new book Autocracy Inc: The Dictators who Want to Run the World.`
Oct 6, 2024 Shield of the Republic Podcast Eric and Eliot welcome back Anne Applebaum, Pultizer and Duff Cooper Prize Winning author of Gulag and Red Famine and currently staff writer with The Atlantic and senior fellow at the Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. They discuss Anne's new book Autocracy Inc: The Dictators who Want to Run the World. They examine the threat that autocratic regimes represent to their own citizens at home and to liberal democracy abroad, the West's slowness to recognize the threat that the authoritarians represent, the excessive optimism that (after the end of the Cold War and with the advent of globalization) liberal democratic ideals would triumph without recognizing the danger that authoritarian, illiberal ideas might flow into democracies, whether or not the authoritarians think they are winning and how they measure success, Russia's role in prompting much of the authoritarian offensive and the role of western institutions in facilitating the emergence of Russia as a personalist, authoritarian mafia state, the weaknesses of the authoritarians and how the western democracies might go on the offensive against the political warfare being waged daily by the authoritarians against the democracies, and the effort to obliterate truth and promote hopelessness and cynicism in citizens in democracies and setting them against one another. Autocracy, Inc.: The Dictators Who Want to Run the World: https://a.co/d/ifaCL3E Shield of the Republic is a Bulwark podcast co-sponsored by the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia.

PODCAST: 099 - Proof
Tumblr media
We’re looking to the stage for this week’s episode! After being awarded the Pultizer Prize for Drama, a Tony success, and two years on Broadway, Oscar obsessives looked to the big screen adaptation of Proof to continue its slew of trophies. With Gwyneth Paltrow reprising her role from the London stage (along with that production’s director and Shakespeare in Love helmer, John Madden), this intimate drama on math and madness felt like the surest of bets on paper. But Proof’s release was delayed by a year as Miramax began to fizzle, arriving on screen as an afterthought even in a Best Actress year with fewer contenders.
This week, we look back at recent adaptations of Pulitzer Prize winning plays and what has gotten lost from stage to screen. We also look at how Proof has aged over years of being over-produced, Hope Davis’s era of an expected eventual nomination, and Mary Louise Parker’s Tony win.
Topics also include Anne Heche at stage doors, the God of Carnage puke scene, and next week’s 100th episode!!

I'm operating under the assumption that for the purposes of a story involving a pairing like this that Clark and Lois are a nonviable couple (maybe Lois is dead or they divorced or they never got together or something like that. Use your imagination). And why not? Are you saying that Clark is so shallow that he could never learn to love a chubby middle-aged man? Are you saying that Lancer is so revolting in personality and body that Clark could never bring himself to love him? Come on now. We all know that Lancer is a decent guy who genuinely cares about his students. Why would Clark never be able to love a guy like him? Just because you don't like Mr. Lancer and think he's gross? Grow up. Middle-aged people are perfectly lovable. Or better yet! Let's make it a polycule! Clark can love his drop dead gorgeous pultizer prize wife AND his balding gamer good-hearted teacher husband! AT THE SAME TIME!
Also nah. I don't think that John is too good for Vlad. I think that Vlad may be just a little too good for John tbh. Like, at least Vlad hasn't gotten any lovers of his permenatly trapped in hell to be constantly tortured for his shitty actions as a punishment while he just lives his life and does nothing about it. Hell. As far as we can tell, Vlad has never killed anyone nor even gotten anyone killed (an accolade that John certainly doesn't have!) and so the worst things Vlad has ever done is be a creep. Sucks, sure, but that ain't NEARLY as bad as the kinds of things Constantine has done! And you can fix and work on being a creep at least!
Also implying that I and the entire DPxDC community has brain damage. Classy. Really doing a lot to endear yourself to the community right there. Making a real strong case for why I should listen to your opinions right there. Shitting on people for just having harmless fun with needlessly volatile language when you could simply scroll past and ignore the thing that you don't like, or block the user/tag like an adult. And then when someone tries to elaborate on fun things that can be done with the thing and can give it value, you imply that they have brain damage. You might as well call me the r-slur, since that's what you're basically implying. You're already being an ableist dickweed so why not just double down and say what you mean in plain language that isn't trying to hide what you're doing.
Is it really THAT hard to just let people have their shipping fun that you absolutely MUST get involved!??? What kind of insight of value are you offering here? Out of everything that you could be doing right now, why are you commenting hate on this post in particular? Why make such an unwarranted negative comment on this post when it would be more productive and probably make you feel happier for you to make your own post getting at the heart of why you dislike these ships but like others? Why do you insist on making us DC fans look bad to the rest of the DPxDC community and antagonize them into not wanting to listen to you? Or do you just have more insults to throw my way? (And if you're going to just insult me, at least throw some slurs in there for some spice!)

Danny Phantom meets Superman. More accurately I should say that Danny Fenton meets Clark Kent.
Let me make this clear cause people seem to forget this: superman is smart. Clark kent is a very intelligent guy. Hes an INVESTIGATIVE journalist. He works with Lois Lane whos a multiple Pultizer prize winner and you know damn well that Lois wouldn’t work with anyone that cant keep up with her in both wits and smarts. He’s good at his job and in some comics he gets Pulitzer Prizes from some of his articles as well. Dude is dumb but he’s smart if you get what I’m saying. High Int. Low Wis.
With that in mind, During an assignment by Perry White, Lois and Clark meet the Fentons in their Amnesty residence to get some quotes on an article that discusses “Everything we thought didn’t exist is now real. Superheroes, Aliens, even Vampires, so why do we not Believe in Ghosts?”
Clark Kent spots Danny and notices instantly that MANY things are wrong with this child. His shoulders are hunched in a way that is intentional and tensed. Like he doesn’t know if he should fight or flee. His eyes are darting around and constantly taking in their surroundings like he’s waiting for something to barge in. His heart is beating far slower than it should. The kid intentionally makes his chest rise and fall but he’s not breathing in any oxygen. All of those are concerning but they can happen in metas. The thing that isn’t normal is that Clark can’t hear any of Danny’s other organs working. Like the kid is a revitalized corpse and his body only thought to bring back half of its needed functions.
So Clark does some digging. He doesn’t want to tell any of the Justice League because this isn’t a Superman job, this is a job for Clark Kent. He gets some help from Oracle and with her word that she won’t say anything to batman, He agrees to update her regularly about the kids situation.
Oracle sends over some VERY concerning documents from an organization called “The Ghost Investigation Ward”. Oracle tells Clark that she’s working on tipping off the Bats and Birds so they can help dismantle the organization.
While sifting through the documents Clark comes across a profile of a “Danny Phantom”. As I said, Clark isn’t stupid. There is definitely a profile of Danny Fenton as well since he’s the son of two world renown ghost hunters. He puts the two and two together and uncovers just the horrible treatment that Phantom has been receiving from his parents, the government, and his peers. Clark is outraged and can’t just stand aside and let this kid suffer. So he makes another trip to the Fenton residence under the guise of needing another quote and sits Danny and Jazz down and tells him that he knows of the terrible lab safety, the immoral experiments his parents do on the regular, the neglect of the kids in pursuit of scientific discovery. He knows and he wants to help. Clark tells Danny and Jazz that there is an apartment available right nextdoor from his and that he can help them get to a safer location and apply for emancipation.
The Fenton kids are shocked at this guy and his immensely kind heart. Danny knows something is up though. Something is up with Clark Kent. He looks like all his life would be spent in the gym when he isn’t at work and yet Danny can’t find a thing on Clarks interest in working out. His baggy clothes somewhat cover up his muscles but his frame is far too wide to be hidden. Clarks heartbeat is slightly faster than the average persons. No human eyes could be that startlingly sky blue. And Danny knows that he has seen Clarks face somewhere but he cant put a pin on it.
The Fenton kids agree and they get brought to metropolis and the emancipation case is no problem with the evidence Clark managed to collect. The kids get the apartment next to Clarks and Clark helps them grow and get better mentally and situationally. Clark knows that in a way he’s trying to make up for his neglect on Connor but he still knows that helping these kids is the right decision.
After a month or so, Clark and the Fenton kids have a rhythm of meeting at each others apartments, getting doted over to make sure that the fentons are well fed and have everything they need and are getting settled into their new life.
Clark hasn’t told the league. Oracle keeps her promise to keep the Fentons out of Batman and the Justice League’s radar. Clark knows that he will have to tell them soon eventually. He knows that things like this wont last. He tries his best to keep these kids happy and support them how an actual caring parent should act.
A few months into the Fentons stay in Metropolis on a cool autumn afternoon, Danny is sitting on a beanbag chair reading a ratty old book that Clark lent him as Clark is typing away on his computer writing up an article for the Daily Planet when Danny looks over to Clark and says,
“I’m Phantom.”
Clark pauses typing and shoots a small smile towards danny, “I know.”
Danny nods in relieved acceptance as Clark straightens up from his hunced over position on his computer.
He pulls back his shirt collar slightly to show the blue suit and red cape. “I’m Superman.”
Danny looks at him and smiles, “I know.”
They both just sit and continue reading and writing with soft smiles on their faces. Comforted at the exchange and that it’s finally out there and eachother knew.
After a while Danny’s obsession gets to be too much. He tells Clark about it and that he has to find a way to sate his obsession of protecting and Clark accepts that it was only a matter of time and invites him to meet the League.
When Superman brings Danny to the Watchtower, saying that the rest of his fellow superheroes were shocked would be an understatement. The Man of Steel and this ghost kid are talking like a father and son.
To say that Batman was pissed that he wasn’t informed of this child is also an understatement. But there is also some amusement and respect under that frustration. Superman managed to keep this kid under wraps and didn’t even alert Batman. Superman smirking and saying under his breath to him “Looks like the World's Greatest Detective isn’t so great huh?” Makes Batman respect the man even more.
In the Watchtower, Danny meets up with Teen Titans/The Team/Whatever They’re Called Now, and meets Conner. Conner is understandably pissed and spiteful that Danny got to have Superman as a father figure.
Conner knows that Superman treating Danny this way is definitely a way of him trying to make up for the faults and breaks he had with his parental relationship with Conner. he agrees with himself that he shouldn’t hate Danny for having Superman as a Dad and the two get along like tinder and matches. Connor still has a grudge against Superman don’t get me wrong, just not as much as before.
Sometimes while the League is in battle, Superman likes to just look for Danny and watch him hold his own against world ending threats. Danny is now truly confident and it’s no longer a facade. He’s no longer hunching into himself to look smaller. He laughs more often now and seems to be genuinely happy. Superman fondly looks at his son as his kids eyes flicker with green fire as he says a shitty ice pun and freezes Metallo in his tracks with ghostly ice.

The Woman In The Window (2021) - Film Review
The Woman In The Window tries to replicate Rear Window but sadly makes for pane-fully dull viewing - Film Review
On paper, The Woman In The Window should have been a slam dunk. Particularly if it had been released last year. The entire world was confined to their homes during Lockdown with nothing to do but spy on their neighbours. It is directed by a BAFTA-nominated director, adapted by a Pultizer Prize winner and stars multiple Oscar winners and nominees. An agoraphobic woman living alone in New York…

J. Sommer’s Thoughts on the Season 5 Premiere of Supergirl
Lena finally knows Kara is Supergirl! And unfortunately, this reveal was facilitated by Lex Luthor, who has done nothing but try and hurt Lena since he went mad and tried to kill Superman. The episode opens with Lena intent on revealing Kara’s secret to the world, promising the new owner of CatCo a compelling story by 9pm (she had initially bought CatCo because she knew how much it meant to Kara, and then she sold it because she’s hurt that Kara never revealed her true self to Lena). When Kara and Lena meet up for lunch (before Kara revealed to Lena herself that she was Supergirl), the audience can see the anger and betrayal in Lena’s eyes as she passive-aggressively implies to Kara that she has never lied to her.
When Kara and Lena next meet up it’s because Lena has decided to present Kara’s Pultizer prize (however, I think Lena wanted to do this because she planned on revealing to the world that Kara was Supergirl). However, Lena’s plans are thrown for a loop because Kara revealed to Lena herself that she was Supergirl.
Tumblr media
You can see in Lena’s face that she hadn’t anticipated Kara telling her about her true identity. Her eyebrows are slightly furrowed and her mouth is open in shock and her eyes show just how unexpected this reveal was to her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kara is known to be a positive person, always happy and smiling and looking on the bright side. But when she breaks down and cries, it’s absolutely devasting. She has only done so a couple of times throughout the show and it’s when she hurt her sister under the influence of RedK! and when she found out her parents were the creators of a biological weapon that would kill anyone who wasn’t Kryptonian. When Mon-El, the man she was in a relationship with, left at the end of Season 2 because the atmosphere was now poisonous to him, she didn’t shed a tear. But here, in this moment when she reveals her true identity to Lena, Kara is terrified that she will lose Lena, and when Lena walks away from her after the reveal, there are two tears on her face. Now there is saying that when two tears leave your eyes at the same time when you’re crying, it means you are in true pain. Lena means so much to Kara, almost as much as Alex means to her, and she’s so scared that Lena will hate her.
Tumblr media
Lena is also very conflicted because she was going to reveal to the world that Kara is Supergirl. She had given her word (“and I always keep my word”) to the new owner of CatCo that she would be giving a big story to her. But in this scene, Lena can’t do it. She cares about Kara so much and Kara seems to feel the same as she did tell Lena about her secret identity. So Lena, BROKE HER WORD and didn’t reveal Kara’s identity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Kara puts on her new suit and exclaims to Lena about “PANTS”, Lena smiles because this her best friend becoming a superhero and it’s amazing. But as Kara flies away, Lena’s face morphs into an “Oh, shit”, look because now Lena doesn’t know what to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the fight, when Kara lands on Lena’s balcony, she gives Lena a watch that will be able to call Supergirl. She had given a watch to James when she had a crush on him, and her sister also has one. Now Lena gets one, and it shows how much Lena means to Kara for her to give this watch to Lena. And Lena, her face isn’t conflicted anymore. No, instead she seems comforted and warm at this idea of being apart of Kara’s life, to be able to see her best friend as her true self. And although she later says that she’s trying to build Kara’s trust so she can hurt her as Kara has hurt her because Luthors are scorpions and they sting those who have wronged them, Lena has been betrayed by both her mother and her brother countless times and she still will try and help them, so it would seem out of character for Lena to all of sudden not care what happens to Kara. Therefore, Lena being hurt by Kara and wanting to hurt her back does nothing to diminish how much she cares about Kara (even though Kara “broke her heart”) because even when someone you love hurts you, you don’t just stop caring about them.
I haven’t even gone into depth about the level of romantic parallels that have happened in this episode. So for now, I’m just going to leave this post as an analysis of Kara and Lena’s relationship within this episode and delve into the romantic aspects of it at a later date.
