Was at the grocery store and I'm pretty used to kids pointing out my service dog. So it didn't phase me when a kid in a grocery cart starting loudly going on about the dog in the store and pointing.
Their adult calmly explained the dog was working hard and needed to be ignored. Kid asked how they knew the dog was working hard. And this lady, without missing a beat, replied "Well baby, he's working on ignoring you."
And I just started laughing.
I hope that lady has a great week.

It finally happened! Today I got a diagnosis for my pots!! I went to see a new cardiologist almost 2 hours away and he diagnosed me with pots! I'm so happy someone finally heard me and sees my struggles. 🥹 Attached are some photos from my day at the appointment and in the town!

hi! Question for service dog handlers!!
How did you go about talking to medical professionals about getting a service dog, mainly for owner training one? (I assume that the process would be different if you're getting an SD from a program). Did you talk to a medical professional at all? I know you can't be "prescribed" a service dog but was there anything that medical professionals did on their end? (write you a doctors note, put something in your file about getting a service dog, etc) I've been talking to my therapist about getting a psychiatric SD for awhile now but would it be worth talking to a psychiatrist or a general care doctor about it as well? This is super duper preliminary/just the beginning of the process but I haven't found a lot of resources about this part. Any other help/advice about this is super appreciated!

Service dog in training
This summer I will be getting my first service dog candidate and we will begin training. I’m super excited and also a little nervous. I’ve done hours of research, watched a ton of videos, and read training books. Still I’m always up for learning more. If any service dog handlers or trainers have advice for a mentally disabled person training their first psychiatric service dog, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you :)

A snow baby!!
When we take breaks at work, I give her time to go potty outside and run around and sniff a bit since it's a lot to expect of a dog to be focused the entire work day. It snowed over the last couple days and Arwen is *ecstatic*

Sometimes as service dog handlers its about supporting our dogs instead of them supporting us. Casper has to get his dog flu and lepto boosters today. One of them (im not sure which since they are relatively new shots to us) is likely given intramuscular. He is very sore, exhausted, and stressed. So today its less about what i need from him. Today its about him being on my lap, napping in the sun while i affirm that he isnt alone and i love him no matter what. Make sure to tell your pups, working or not, that you love and appreciate them today

My family: Hey do you want to come to Event that will be loud and crowded with limited to no opportunity to create space for yourself?
Me: Hm, while I would like to enjoy Event with you that sounds like something my disabilities will make difficult for me. I will need to bring my Service Dog who is specifically task trained to help me with such things.
My family: There's no need to bring a dog. It will attract attention and make people think you're disabled. We are your family, we can help you.
Me: I am disabled and Service Dog is trained to behave calmly in all sorts of environments. But if I do not bring Service Dog will you pay attention to me and do X, Y, or Z if I started struggling with symptoms of my disabilities?
My family: We will be with you so you won't experience any symptoms.
Me: But what if I do? Will you take any actions to help me cope with my disability symptoms?
My family: We will be with you so you won't.
Me: Unfortunately I will have to pass but I hope you enjoy Event.
My family: You never want to do anything with us. It's very hurtful.

if you’re wondering if psychiatric service dogs really improve lives
i don’t have panic attacks in grocery stores or crowds anymore (grounding, momentum, dpt)
i stopped biting my nails (interruption)
i don’t doomscroll or ruminate anymore (interruption, dissociation alert)
i can wake up in the morning without 6 alarms (dpt, stimulation)
i can sit through a meal without dissociating, and enjoy it! (grounding, sensory stimulation, dpt)
i can deescalate my anger (interruption, grounding, dpt)
i go new places on a whim and enjoy it (being a source of confidence, best friend)
pics of the goober making a con accessible for me ❤️
