PSALMS S.O.A.P. ~ PSALM 116
Thursday, 12/28/23
SCRIPTURE:
The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is compassionate.  The Lord guards the inexperienced;  I was helpless, and He saved me.  ~ Psalm 116:5-6
OBSERVATION:
His grace, righteousness, compassion...
Of all the inexperienced I have the most experience in being inexperienced...
...though I have experienced - and continue to experience - His "grace, righteousness, and compassion" daily...
I was, and remain, helpless on my own...
He saved me from my own helplessness... my own inability to live sinless...
APPLICATION:
Experience His grace, righteousness, and compassion...
Live in His grace, righteousness, and compassion...
Share His grace, righteousness, and compassion...
Lean into His saving help...
PRAYER: (Including verses 1, 2, & 8)
Graceful, righteous, and compassionate Father God - I ask forgiveness for continuously trying to do thing on my own instead of surrendering my will for Yours and seeing and sharing what You have in store for me and those in my life... Thank You for hearing my appeals for mercy, and for allowing me to call out to You in need and sing Your praises in worship... May Your Holy Spirit continue to guide me from stumbling on my own way, and may my tears be only tears of joy and gratitude for Your having rescued me for Your presence... In Jesus's Name, and for Your glory and honor and coming kingdom...
Experiencing His grace, righteousness, and compassion - with and through you and yours...

Daily Prayer for October 18, 2023: Psalm 116
Prayer: Grant to us, almighty God, your listening ear as we cry out to you for help in a sinful and adulterous world. Please help us because no one else is acquainted with our miseries and struggles. Because of your Son, our great high priest, we can appeal to you through the one who knows what it is like to walk this earth, seeing the atrocities of man, the effects of sin, the miseries of this…

Worship Discipleship Evangelism Fellowship Demonstrate God's love
To Worship God A reset. It resets our focus to be on Him.
Psalm 116
Psalm 73
vs 2 Bad people appearing to prosper
vs 11 People mocking God and seeming to do well despite their warped worldview.
vs 17 Entering the sanctuary of God. Their focus is off their preoccupations and on God. A new reality.
vs 18 The other people are on slippery ground.
We need to be on a stable ground.
Things can change in an instant.
Worshipping God and seeing His love and mercy in our lives God is worthy of being worshipped.
Selfishness is a barrier to worship.
1. Worship is my response to God's love. He sent His Son to die for us. 2. Worship is giving back to God. 3. Worship expressing affection to God. Hosea 6 Exodus 34: God is passionate about His relationship to us. Romans 6:13 4. Worship is using my activities for God. Colossians 5:35 Romans 12:1
Turn every aspect of your lives over to God.

You Have Delivered My Soul From Death -- Roy Knight
Psalm 116 is attributed to David and is a psalm of praise for the Lord’s deliverance. One can readily see these words escaping from David’s pen as he hides in the wilderness from Saul or as he flees for his life from his son Absalom. Verses 1-2 are a plea for help as well as the assurance that God has heard David’s cry. “I love the Lord, because He has heard…” (1). As Christians, we need to rest…

Psalms 116
....
I love Jehovah Because he hears my voice, my pleas for help. 2 For he inclines his ear to me, And I will call on him as long as I live 3The ropes of death encircled me; The Grave had me in its grip. I was overcome by distress and grief. 4 But I called on the name of Jehovah: “O Jehovah, rescue me!” 5 Jehovah is compassionate and righteous; Our God is merciful. 6 Jehovah is guarding the inexperienced. I was brought low, and he saved me. 7 Let my soul rest once again, For Jehovah has dealt kindly with me.
8 You have rescued me from death, My eye from tears, my foot from stumbling. 9 I will walk before Jehovah in the land of the living. 10 I had faith, for I spoke; I was greatly afflicted. 11 As for me, I panicked and said: “Every man is a liar.” 12 With what will I repay Jehovah For all the good he has done for me?
13 I will take up the cup of salvation, And I will call on the name of Jehovah. 14 I will pay my vows to Jehovah In the presence of all his people. 15 Costly in the eyes of Jehovah Is the death of his loyal ones. 16 I beg you, O Jehovah, For I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your slave girl. You have freed me from my bonds.
17 I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; I will call on the name of Jehovah. 18 I will pay my vows to JehovahIn the presence of all his people, 19 In the courtyards of the house of Jehovah, In your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise Jah!
