The ducks and shibas aren't the only things having babies. Our resident Giant Bingus is apparently a female. We have named her Patty, after the Bigfoot video. She has a pair of twins in a nest in the woods and they are the worst creatures you can possibly imagine. They've got a thin layer of fur through which their skin is bright pink. Their eyes aren't open yet. They look like all the most horrible things about newborn humans dialed up to eleven. And if something bothers them, the little buggers scream, which brings mama thundering over.
We have been observing them through binoculars, and I got to see them nurse. I will never recover. I see it every time I shut my eyes.

In the river shallows we've been finding these masses of goo among the reeds. Vandebeek described them as snakehead nests, which sounds ominous when you don't know what a snakehead is. It turned out to be a fish. A long, thick fish with hideously human-looking teeth that appear to be mostly used for cracking open the many types of crabs we have met, but can also be used to pulverize anything that messes with its eggs. I think I know why we keep seeing tarasques with missing toes.
Vandebeek named these things Channa ovinutrix, which he explained means 'snakehead that cares for its eggs'. Kelleher says he got the name from 'Dinotopia' but I don't know what that is. The rest of us are calling it the crabcracker. Hopefully they taste good.

It was while fishing that we dredged up this thing on the left:

I got nothing.

A group of dozens of Polish American Wisconsinites, including current and former Democratic elected officials, released an open letter Wednesday criticizing former President Donald Trump's comments about Russia's war with Ukraine and backing Vice President Kamala Harris."Earlier this year, Trump said he would encourage Russia to 'do whatever the hell they want' to our NATO allies, and during the debate last week he twice refused to answer a question about whether he wanted Ukraine to win their war," the letter reads. "Polish people in the U.S. and around the world know that our future is tied to Ukraine’s — because after Ukraine, Putin’s next target is Poland."
The letter was signed by more than 60 Polish American Wisconsinites, including Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski, Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza, Oak Creek Mayor Dan Bukiewicz, Milwaukee County Board Supervisor Justin Bielinski and Portage County Board Supervisor Shaun Przybylski.
The letter comes as both Harris and Trump are working to win support from Polish American voters.
During last week's debate, held in Philadelphia, Harris appealed to the 800,000 Polish-Americans who reside in Pennsylvania as she criticized Trump's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and comments about the war in Ukraine.
And this weekend, Trump and Polish President Andrzej Duda are scheduled to attend the same event in Pennsylvania.
The Trump campaign responded to questions about the letter by criticizing Harris' foreign policy experience and saying she and President Joe Biden had “emboldened our adversaries" and worsened conditions at the U.S.-Mexico border.
"Kamala Harris is dangerously liberal and there is zero doubt that America will be a more dangerous place if she was our Commander in Chief," Karoline Leavitt, Trump Campaign press secretary, said in a statement.

Study finds no “smoking gun” for mental health issues due to Internet usage
A study of more than 2 million people’s Internet use found no “smoking gun” for widespread harm to mental health from online activities such as browsing social media and gaming, despite widely claimed concerns that mobile apps can cause depression and anxiety.
Researchers at the Oxford Internet Institute, who said their study was the largest of its kind, said they found no evidence to support “popular ideas that certain groups are more at risk” from the technology.
However, Andrew Przybylski, professor at the institute—part of the University of Oxford—said that the data necessary to establish a causal connection was “absent” without more cooperation from tech companies. If apps do harm mental health, only the companies that build them have the user data that could prove it, he said. …
“Our results do not provide evidence supporting the view that the Internet and technologies enabled by it, such as smartphones with Internet access, are actively promoting or harming either wellbeing or mental health globally,” they concluded. While there was “some evidence” of greater associations between mental health problems and technology among younger people, these “appeared small in magnitude,” they added.

It seems we're getting the lander back sooner than we thought. The gigaducks' eggs hatched a couple of days ago, and once the ducklings dried out and fluffed up, they climbed right out and dropped ten metres to the ground. Reynolds says this is normal duck behaviour. It didn't seem to hurt most of them. They just got up and followed the adults to the river.

This makes me wonder where they normally nest. It can't be out here on the flat if plummeting headlong from the nest is how their lives are supposed to begin. Do they normally choose trees or cliffs? Are these ones only hanging around because the lander is here? Did we bring the ducks on ourselves?
I said the fall didn't hurt most of them. There were a couple that didn't make it. One bounced off the side of the lander, which either killed or stunned it, and a saber-toothed shiba that had been waiting underneath dashed out to snatch it up. This did not sit well with mama duck. A fight ensued in which the shiba, incredibly, lost.
After the ducks departed, we went to take a look at the shiba and found that it was actually dead - the duck had broken its neck. It's belly was moving, however, and to everybody's surprise, two puppies squirmed out. It's a good thing we had an Australian along because the rest of us honestly couldn't figure out if they'd chewed their way out or what, until Ireland said, "oh, hey, it's a marsupial."

The shibas aren't dogs at all, it's just an insane convergent evolution thing. Either the'yre descended from somebody's pet kangaroo or else they're opossums, and we're not sure which is worse. Now we're questioning every dog-like thing we've seen. The weaselschnitzel? The lykopard? All those watchdogs?
Boonmee took the joeys back to her tent with her, but we're not sure they're gonna live very long when she's got nothing to feed them. This led to today's second surprise, when a macawk came and perched on the EHM's roof, as if just waiting for her to turn her back so it could nab one. She waved at it and shouted, "fuck off!"
The macawk spread its wings and showed her its eyespots, and shouted "fuck off!" right back.

It wasn't very good at it - it couldn't make the f sound so it was more of an "ock-aww!" but it was definitely intended to be an imitation of her. This shocked everybody else, but I realized: of course they can do that! The ones at the triceracow carcass imitated the night screamers and shibas to try to drive them off. I guess that's their thing. When they get threatened, they use their eyespots and voices to say, "I'm you but bigger!"

Violence and Virtual Worlds: Defending Grand Theft Auto Online
Known for its reputation for allegedly promoting violent behavior, Grand Theft Auto Online instead proves how virtual environments let players explore violence safely, giving players a complex and almost therapeutic sandbox that does not have real consequences with real-world violence. This argument is supported through three major concepts: therapeutic or cathartic theory and emotional regulation, procedural rhetoric and player agency, and the history of moral panic surrounding video games. By examining GTA Online through these academic lenses, we can better understand why players are drawn to violent virtual play and how it functions within a broader social and psychological context. Far from being a training ground for real-world crime, GTA Online is a chaotic, often humorous simulation where violence is exaggerated, optional, and most importantly, separated from actual harm.
Therapeutic/cathartic theory and emotional regulation
The idea that violent games cause violent behavior has been repeatedly challenged by psychological research. In fact, some studies suggest the opposite: that engaging with violent content can be a form of emotional regulation. According to Andrew K. Przybylski (2019), he found that while some aggressive thoughts can arise from gaming, there is no clear evidence of a causal link to violent behavior. Instead, players may use games as a way to blow off steam in a safe and socially acceptable way. In GTA Online, the opportunity for catharsis is built into the very structure of the game. Players can unleash chaos without consequences: hijack cars, blow up helicopters, start shootouts, or simply mess around with friends. This absurd freedom allows for a form of venting that doesn't hurt anyone. Simon Parkin (2019) of TIME notes that "there’s no evidence that violent video games lead to violent crime" and highlights how these games are often used as scapegoats in the wake of tragedy. Unlike real violence, in-game actions are clearly separated from morality and law. GTA Online offers a hyperbolic world that mirrors real-life systems such as corrupt police, capitalist ambition, power struggles. But does so in a satirical, exaggerated way that is entertaining for a younger audience. In this context, acting violently is more akin to watching a violent movie or laughing at a dark joke. It serves a psychological purpose that is misunderstood by critics who conflate fantasy with intent. Screenshots of multiplayer shootouts, chaotic heist getaways, or even the casual mayhem of an open-world session serve as visual proof of this fictional violence. The chaos is a form of catharsis and/or a result of boredom in a consequence-free world, not a prelude to crime. This distinction is important in understanding how GTA Online offers relief, not reinforcement, of violent impulses. Moreover, this emotional regulation extends to different types of players. Competitive players might find stress relief through dominance-based activities like death matches, while social players may bond over shared heists and chaotic stunts, converting stress into laughter. Others may enjoy simply customizing vehicles or exploring the expansive map, engaging in calming, goal-oriented play. The game’s broad appeal makes it a digital playground for a wide spectrum of emotional needs, not a monolith of violence.
Procedural rhetoric and player agency
The concept of procedural rhetoric, created by Ian Bogost (2007), explores how video games make arguments through their rules and mechanics. In GTA Online, the game does not force players to be violent; rather, it presents a world where violence is one of the many options. Players can race cars, run nightclubs, buy property, invest in the stock market, or simply explore Los Santos. This freedom highlights the agency that players possess within the system. While the game’s marketing often emphasizes explosions and shootouts, the actual experience is far more diverse. If a player chooses violence, that choice reflects their temporary mood or play style, not an endorsement or conditioning of criminal behavior. Procedural rhetoric reveals that GTA Online is not making an argument for violence, it’s making an argument for autonomy and satire in a world of systemic corruption. The economic system in the game is a parody of real-world capitalism, systematic greed, violence and power structures, where success is often measured in flashy cars, penthouses, and chaos. Players are presented with a variety of choices, from evading police, to climbing this ladder through heists or through more passive enterprises like cargo trading and VIP missions. The choice is always the player’s and violence is a tool, not a directive. There are even communities of players who reject violence entirely. Roleplaying servers within GTA Online, for instance, foster environments where players simulate realistic professions, such as police officers, taxi drivers, and business owners. In these spaces, players create their own rules, highlighting the adaptability of the platform and the ways it can be reshaped by user intent. These practices challenge the assumption that the game’s structure inherently promotes violence. Another example is the game’s rich social hubs such as car meetups, dance clubs, and in-game photo sessions, which showcase how players spend time building relationships and identities instead of committing digital crimes. These activities reflect the importance of social play and creative freedom in the gaming experience. Procedural rhetoric here underscores how a game’s “message” is incomplete without the player’s input, and GTA Online thrives on offering a variety of experiences that go beyond violence.
History of moral panic surrounding video games
The criticism that video games incite real-world violence is not new. It is part of a long tradition of panic. As Christopher J. Ferguson (2019) points out in his PBS article, public outcry against violent games often follows real world tragedies, despite a lack of evidence connecting the two. The blame comes from the fear of the tragedy, not real fact of the correlation between them. Historically, similar fears and blames have been pointed at comic books, movies, music genres, and even novels. In the 50s, psychologist Fredric Wertham said that comic books were causing juvenile delinquency, sparking a Senate discussion that led to the Comics Code Authority. Heavy metal and rap music faced similar critiques in the 1980s and 1990s. In each case, new cultural expressions were treated as threats to public morality. GTA Online finds itself in this same criticism not because it is dangerous, but because it is popular and controversial. Stanley Cohen’s concept of moral panic outlines how societies project anxiety onto certain groups or behaviors, often inflating their threat level without evidence. GTA Online becomes a cultural enemy that stands in for broader fears about youth, technology, and violence. But the data does not support these fears. Countries with similar or higher gaming rates than the U.S. report far less gun violence, suggesting that the problem lies elsewhere. The broader narrative of fear also distracts from more pressing issues. Critics who focus on video games may ignore contributing factors like mental health, socioeconomic inequality, and access to firearms, which in return, makes them more likely to blame games for a convenient but misleading explanation. As Ferguson and other researchers note, legislative or parental responses that target games without acknowledging these larger systemic issues do little to address real-world violence. Instead, the online nature of GTA Online allows for community building, cooperation, and sharing. Screenshots of players teaming up for a heist or posing in customized outfits show us the idea that the game is as much about society as it is about simulated crime. Reducing it to a violence simulator ignores the whole context of the experience. Players often develop emotional attachments to their avatars and crew members, building networks of friendship and trust. These connections can be long-lasting and meaningful, further challenging the stereotype that gaming is an isolating or purely destructive pastime. If anything, GTA Online fosters a kind of digital citizenship that is far richer than its critics admit.
Conclusion
In summary, GTA Online is prune for criticism not because it is a catalyst for violence, but because it allows players to confront and parody it. Through the lenses of catharsis, therapy, procedural rhetoric, and moral panic, it becomes clear that the game offers a multifaceted experience that is often misunderstood. Rather than making players violent, it gives them a sandbox where aggression is stylized, contextualized, and safely contained. In a world where violence is a real and a pressing concern everyday, dismissing complex cultural artifacts like GTA Online as mere provocateur is not only inaccurate but it’s also a missed opportunity for deeper understanding on how violence is actually created. By recognizing the game’s value as a site for emotional regulation, critical engagement, and cultural reflection, we can finally move beyond the outdated narrative that virtual violence causes real harm.

FOMO ODOJ ✿☉。☉??
Tapi, aku menyadari satu hal baru.
Itu mungkin tanda kalau kamu sedang mengalami FoMO, atau Fear of Missing Out.
Better less than nothing, right?
Aamiin.
Insyaallaah, tentunya kembali mengejad targer One Day One Juz.
1. Berapa Banyak Halaman Al-Qur'an yang Harus Dibaca
- Pagi (setelah Shalat Subuh): Bacalah sekitar 5 halaman.
- Siang (setelah Shalat Dzuhur): Bacalah 5 halaman lagi.
- Sore (setelah Shalat Ashar/sebelum berbuka puasa): Bacalah lagi 5 halaman.
- Malam (setelah Shalat Tarawih): Bacalah 5 halaman terakhir.
- Baca 3-4 halaman tiap kali setelah setiap shalat wajib.
5. Gunakan Aplikasi atau Buku Al-Qur'an Digital
Barakallaahu Fiikum. Aamiin.
