Friday the 13th!! Woooo~~~

Many might say otherwise but I think it's an incredibly lucky day. My grandma was born on one and it was an absolute honour to grow up with her. Love her forever.

So let's celebrate a star with other stars, shall we?

BL and good boys? More likely than you'd think, actually.

It is true this world is filled to the brim with absolutely blood red red flags but we still get to believe in the goodness of man(kind).

So here's to them!!!

Yoryak (Wandee Goodday), Mahasamut (Love Sea), Bee (Between Us), Li Ming (Moonlight Chicken) & Sorn (Manner of Death)

Yak, the absolute green flag you are, my beloved. The amount of respect, of kindness, of patience and of cuteness that this man has in one single tit, I mean, in his heart (it's not my fault his tits are in front of it, okay?)... What an absolute gentleman. He's a family man, a true friend, a good boyfriend... An exceptionally good guy, I mean, he helped a complete stranger just bc, let's not forget. What can I say? I love him. I think if he hugged me, it would cure my mental illness.

I would've given up on Tongrak really easily. But not Mut. This man saw through, respected the space but never gave up. He walked a thin line but he had a vision. And he pulled through. With elegance (and a good amount of horniness as well), proved love doesn't have to be scary and it can actually help improve your life and make you want to be a better person. Shout out.

In a world of ppl seeking easy things, Bee chose the hard one. With grace and determination (and by being an absolute simp), he never let go of Prince's side, always provided good advice to his friends and managed to be both a dreamer and an extremely grounded dude, which is a hard thing to do. He really proved to everyone that when BlackPink said "I don't want a boy, I need a man" THIS was what they meant. We have no option but to stan.

Do I even need to say anything? Li Ming took one good look at Heart, asked "is anyone gonna love the shit out of this lonely guy over here or do I have to do it myself?" and did NOT wait for an answer. Like, god fucking damn it, he learned a whole language for Heart, absolutely legendary. Plus he always tried to do his best for his uncle AND for himself, which is also extremely important. He worked hard and he deserves all the places that may get him to.

Now... I know when you have Cactus as sex witnesses, Tul Pakorn, serial murders, proper adult horny BL, substance abuse, illegal abortions and human trafficking, it's hard to focus on the B-Plot teenage baby gays BUT I PROMISE Sorn is worth noticing. What an absolute good boy. What a loveable little guy. What a caring prince. He worried about his friends, the adults in his life, his boyfriend (don't fight me, they ARE dating, period), complete strangers. He worried about the law, of all things!! What an absolute cutie. Pls give him more credit, he is lovely.

Choco and Milk literally came back to Earth to make Jungwoo happy. No further explanation is required.

Ishida was an absolute mess but he was a boundary king and he was always worried about how Mitsuya might react to his thoughts and feelings, which is honourable.

In a world where Mannaow was always treated like shit bc of awful beauty standards, Pruek treated her as the queen she was.

Zizhen's romantic heart is commendable but more commendable is how he stands up for what he believes.

Wen Ning suffered literally more than Jesus. Everything gruesome that ever happened, man was there. They made him kill ppl against his will. Nobody fucking likes him in-universe. And all this man ever wanted was a peaceful life with his sister and a damn hug. Unnacceptable.

Hoy might be a little dumb and silly but you can't say he isn't caring or trying his best. His heart is in the right place, which is what matters the most.

If you've watched Moonlight Chicken you know the horrors Gaipa goes through are immense but, despite that, he's never mad at anyone, never lashes out. His heart is made of solid gold, I'm sure, and that should be appreciated.

White died (unclear because of the drug plotline but let's assume he did) being the only innocent person inside that house. All he ever wanted was a quiet life with his bf, who was a bit shitty but was trying his best to change. He deserves to, at least, be mentioned here.

Weining was another tragedy... He wasn't the strongest or the smartest but he was the kindest. In a world so terrible as is the world of Word of Honour, with schemes and bloodshed and vengeance... It's surprising how pure and naïve he was. Bless his soul.

End of Episode 7

After sweet little declarations of support and coming outs, we see most of the group together chatting at this very clearly NOT a Gay club?

Where are Dean and Pharm (UWMA)? Probably traumatizing some poor person in another library by staring longingly at each other.

And Pruek continues to defend his title as the #1 Support Boyfriend. (Between Us & UWMA)

The A & C are teasing B about his situationship with Prince.

Bee, who is ready to join the ranks with Pruek as a supporting boyfriend, perpetually understanding and deflecting because he is, in fact, dating/with/will be? a private person who is already in the industry.

And then the advice about not beating around the bush begins.

Hit dogs holler, huh boys?

Of course, Team, who runs away from his feelings, and Win, who silently broods and represses his, are not appreciating it.

Which leads us to ✨The Bathroom Scene™ ✨

They still aren't ready to talk about it, and even though the concern and feelings are filling the air so much its as thick as chowder. As usual, the boys decide to fuck about it instead of talk about it.

But, for real, even though this bathroom looks cleaner than any I have seen in a bar, club, or even a cafe, you have to be that horny, that in love, and that desperate for a connection to do this.

It's wild, a little gross, but painfully telling.

Yes yes yes!

I absolutely love Between Us - but my biggest issue? Not enough WinTeam and WAY too much side couples (mostly B Prince).

They had so much f-Ing time in this show it’s stupid. They had 15 minutes in a single episode….

Why does that matter? WinTeam had 30 in ALL of UWMA…and that show is longer.

Plus…B’s character is so over acted….and he and Prince have no chemistry on TOP of having such a disconnected uninteresting story.

You can like them, that’s totally fine, but if you remove it from BUs NOTHING CHANGES. They add nothing. All their scenes do is take away from everything else.

AND Prince doesn’t exist in the novel at all. Certainly not as a love interest so why waste so much time with his character?

I just need a cut without B and Prince, without the flashbacks, so that I can binge it over and over and not have to fast forward so much.

Listen, Between Us is my child. My joy. My raison d’être.

But I do kind of have separate ratings for the series as a whole vs. WinTeam’s part in it. WinTeam Rating: 12/10, perfect my babies miraculous string music. The series…has a different rating. Undisclosed. Unimportant. New and Sheep did their best under extraordinary circumstances and I will defend their series to my last breath.

That said, I want to make a WinTeam supercut for myself.

‘Cos as far as I know, New didn’t just direct the series—he edited it as well, and I understand that he had a lot on his plate. But I do…kind of wish he’d delegated the editing to someone else. The mic noises, the music crowding some scenes, the flashbacks that go on for a really long time—much longer than they had to—presumably to pad out an episode, etc. Plus, well. BeePrince should have had their own series. Bee is already a side character, and Prince only has Bee and his manager to flesh him out. I think Tae did a fantastic job as Bee, but Benz as Prince never really grabbed me emotionally. Their plot felt sort of sped-run to me, and I started fast-forwarding past them in later episodes. I don’t dislike them, to be clear, I just didn’t feel much of anything in any direction. Love Bee, neutral on BeePrince.

I wish I could fix all the muffled noises from the actors squishing their body mics during hugs and oh my god New kept playing the instrumental version of Prem’s song in a painfully sharp/high-pitched key that felt more like a horror soundtrack than the uplifting/happy instrumental they played in the locker room scene of episode two. But I can’t fix those issues because I’d probably need the original high quality dialogue tracks in order to isolate and remove parts of them. And aaahh, more than anything I wish I could remove the music from some scenes—the late-night “if I asked you, would you have an answer for me” conversation has, like, four or five music cues in it and it’s ONE SCENE, NEW. I’m a huge champion of sound engineering as an art form that should be respected, and so a lot of scenes genuinely felt to me like wasted opportunities. Sound and music aren’t supposed to hammer viewers in the face with the mood of a scene. And BounPrem were at top form in this series, so I wish they had had more scenes where they aren’t interrupted by a song in the middle. Where they just got to have quiet and New let their acting carry the scene.

(This is something New also did in UWMA. Like, as much as I enjoy the cabin scene and the dorm room scene, neither of them needed that song blasted over them. Let the actors carry the scene!!!)

Basically, my only major issues with Between Us were editing-based. Hence why I wish New had let someone else do it. Maybe he didn’t have the money to spare. Maybe he just didn’t want to. No idea.

But that’s why I want to make my own WinTeam cut so I can binge their storyline when I’m having a rough day and I don’t want to fast-forward to get to them. (That’s not to say I didn’t like everyone else! I did! But y’know. WinTeam. My babies.) I’ll include some of the other pairings when their scenes are relevant to WinTeam’s story, but mostly I just want to zero in on WinTeam. (I’ll keep all of WanTul since they’re the pairing with the closest storyline to WinTeam, and the two pairs converge later in the series, but I’m tempted to play with the timeline and see if I can’t blend them in elsewhere.)

I know why BeePrince didn’t have their own series. Side pairings are a profitable and inevitable marketing element of the BL industry, and I don’t begrudge New for trying to advertise some of his actor stable in a highly anticipated series that was guaranteed to have thousands of potential fans watching it. It’s tough out there, and New’s got a purebred cat family to feed and Boun’s salary to provide. Sell what you gotta sell, babe.

(I’m actually a little tempted to do this same thing for SOTUS S because HOO boy do I not care about the side couples in Arthit’s office. KongArt + TewDae + seven seconds of sapphics is all I want.)

Anyway! I’m gonna make this my li’l project. I’m not sure I’ll post it publicly because I don’t want to step on the official versions, but I’ll probably post some isolated scenes while I experiment with editing. For my first step I’ll try to cut down some of those flashback scenes. Like Win in the shower remembering his entire conversation with Dean and Pruk? For multiple minutes? Win might have relived the entire thing, but we shouldn’t. The series is only twelve episodes, New, and that conversation wasn’t that long ago even for those of us who watched it live. We remember. We got it.

If New needed more footage to pad out the episode, just have Boun do his hair and skin care routines. Literally who would complain? “Look, a beautiful human being. Stare.” WITH PLEASURE.

“Oh no the episode is short. Prem, pout for thirty seconds.” I WILL TAKE A THOUSAND SCREENSHOTS.

“Ohm, do some push-ups.” I’m sure he does those!

“Prem, Sammy, ad-lib an argument.” More Team and Manaow bickering! Grand!

“Fluke, be perfect.” PHARM’S APPEARANCES IN THIS SERIES WERE FLAWLESS I HOPE HE GETS THE RESPECT HE DESERVED THE FIRST TIME AROUND.

So you see, there are workarounds when you need to pad out time. No need to show us the same scenes again.

Anyway, in addition to writing fic, this is how I’m coping with our collective loss.

Be Mine Superstar Ep 1

Decided to give this one a try since I don't have much on my plate right now. We'll see how it goes. I hear it employs the whipping boy trope and I do love a good whipping boy trope.

Hm. So our leads haven't really met per se, they just had a slow motion spinny cam moment that probably meant far more to Pun than Ashi. I think Title and Ashi have a thing happening and good for them, really. I already care more about the second couple than the first one, but well. Early days and the second couple got more stuff to do this ep. As predicted I'm already finding the managers a little grating, although as I said I am interested in the dynamics between the three actors.

I plan on sticking with this for at least a few episodes. We'll see if it catches me, I guess. Currently there's not much else on but that's soon to change...

I have absolutely chronic second couple syndrome, and these two aren’t even canon! I must admit, I have a major soft spot for the noble and pious Lan Xichen showing kindness towards the downtrodden but intelligent Meng Yao. It’s just a shame they ended up the way they did. Wonderful parallel to Wangxian and the Lan brothers’ father… someone ask me for an essay on these two 😭

- Preuk x Manaow (Until We Meet Again)

I absolutely love Manaow as a character, and one so rare to see in a BL. I recognise a lot of myself in her. She deserved someone like Pruek and what a handsome couple they make! My university experience certainly wasn’t the same! 🥲

- Ash x Eiji

Another tragic pair, but one I adore. Banana Fish is my favourite manga of all time, and the relationship between Ash and Eiji is a pivotal part of the overall experience. In between gang violence, political intrigue, drug conspiracy, and horrific violence committed against him, Ash managed to get a taste of real love and understanding (however you interpret it) before he met his end.

Watching The Stone of Affection ep. 2 so I'll write thoughts here even though nobody cares:

I'm pretty sure I've expressed this before, but I was really worried going into Between Us because I knew the story was starting during UWMA which meant a lot of content would be extremely familiar. It's not that I don' t love a good parallel story, but I was a little worried I may end up... impatient?

But I am happy to report that so far, Between Us is EVERYTHING I wanted out of this series and more. Boun and Prem are perfect, I didn't realize how much I missed Manow, I'm excited to see Pharm and Dean from others' POV, and I'm actually super excited to learn more about newer characters we haven't really gotten to know just yet.

I kind of figure they're trying to make us fall in love with some of these characters so that maybe another series would spring from it, and I think I'd be down (tho there is no peak level excitement unless we get a Pruek and Manow mini series (Like give me one good adventure with those two), but please don't start it in the same time frame as UWMA and BU start.

Anyway, like before, I hate that we have to wait until next Sunday to watch the next episode. Why must they torture us like this?

Yeah? Yeah! So he is playing the second couple in JaFirst's Be Mine, Super Star which the trailer comes out this Friday.

And who plays opposite him? Oh, that's Jo. He might be playing a doctor in the series, but if you are wondering where you have seen him before . . .
