Pharmaceutical companies worldwide are continuously seeking innovative ways to promote their brands and increase market visibility. One effective and practical promotional tool that has gained immense popularity is the pharmaceutical promotional pen. These pens not only serve as writing instruments but also act as powerful marketing tools, particularly when personalized with the company’s logo and brand message. In India, a rapidly growing market for pharmaceuticals, the utilization of promotional pens has proven to be an impactful strategy to engage with healthcare professionals, enhance brand recognition, and foster customer loyalty.
1. Strengthening Brand Identity:
Promotional pens with logo printing offer pharmaceutical companies a cost-effective means of strengthening their brand identity in India. By featuring a company logo, tagline, or even a product image, these pens become powerful visual reminders of the brand. Healthcare professionals, who are frequently exposed to various promotional materials, can easily recall the brand when using a pen imprinted with its logo, reinforcing brand recognition and association.
2. Effective Marketing Tool:
Pharma promotional pens are not just ordinary writing instruments but also effective marketing tools. When physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals use these pens in their day-to-day activities, they inadvertently promote the brand to a wider audience. These pens often find their way into patient waiting areas, medical conferences, and other healthcare settings, providing extended exposure and creating opportunities for potential customers to notice and engage with the brand. 3. Enhanced Professional Relationships:
In the pharmaceutical industry, establishing and nurturing professional relationships is crucial. Promotional pens serve as excellent icebreakers and conversation starters during meetings, conferences, and other networking events. When a pharmaceutical representative offers a branded pen to a healthcare professional, it not only presents a practical gift but also initiates a connection that can lead to meaningful discussions about the brand’s products and services. This gesture fosters a sense of goodwill, trust, and loyalty among healthcare professionals, positively impacting their perception of the brand.
4. Customization And Versatility:
Promotional pens provide immense customization options to cater to the unique branding needs of pharmaceutical companies. From a wide range of pen styles, colors, and materials to various logo printing techniques, businesses have the flexibility to design pens that align with their brand identity. The versatility of promotional pens allows companies to adapt to different promotional campaigns, target specific healthcare sectors, or launch new products by creating pens that reflect the theme or purpose of the promotion.
5. Cost-Effective Marketing Solution:
Compared to other traditional marketing methods, promotional pens offer an affordable and cost-effective solution for pharmaceutical companies operating in India. The relatively low production cost of pens and the ability to order them in bulk quantities further reduces the overall marketing expenses. In addition, promotional pens have a long lifespan, ensuring prolonged brand exposure as healthcare professionals continue to use them over an extended period.
Conclusion:
Pharma promotional pens with logo printing have become an integral part of marketing strategies for pharmaceutical companies in India. By leveraging these customized pens, businesses can effectively enhance brand visibility, strengthen relationships with healthcare professionals, and leave a lasting impression on their target audience. My New Book Is Out! | Tokens of Zeal
My new book is out!
Buy it! Buy it now!
That's right: In secret, on January 2 of this year I began writing a book of essays. Some of you may know that I have an online journal, which I created in the summer of 2003 when I was just 21 years old and have kept up with ever since. For my new book I went back to the journal and read through it, entry by entry, drawing out excerpts of interest that became conversation pieces for 81 various and sundry essays reflecting on my past life and past thoughts.
The essays are short, often very short. They are less challenging than my usual writing, I would say. My purpose was not to advance my personal frontier of philosophy and intellectual thought in 2024, or to reach a niche audience of deep thinkers, but instead to reflect sincerely on some things I've seen along the way and muse upon how my thoughts have changed and stayed the same over twenty years.
I mention this to you because I am a bit worried that anyone who reads this book might think there's not much to me as an author, and might be dissuaded from reading my works of fiction when those books eventually come out, so I'll lampshade that by adding that I wrote this book in two-and-a-half months. Make of that what you will. I told myself I wouldn't self-sabotage the book by needlessly saying negative things about it, and I am proud of it, not only the fact that I finished it at all, let alone so quickly, but of the actual contents too.
This book is "Volume 1" in a hypothetical series, as it doesn't cover the entire twenty years of the journal but only the first four months, from August to November of 2003—at which point the essays had reached "book length" (lol). So really this book is a snapshot of my life in the latter half of 2003. At that time, I was fading out of college due to financial hardship and other issues, and did not realize that I would never (as yet) return.
I have been wanting for years to go back and reread my journal, and writing a book out of it was the perfect impetus to finally do it. I think a few things stand out about the Josh of 2023:
First, my principles have remained remarkably consistent, but my awareness and understanding of the world has grown drastically, and so those same principles have led me over time to some different policy views and worldviews on some things.
Second, I was a 21-year-old arrogant block of cheese, full of hormones and self-conviction, and that definitely shows up at times in ways that I simultaneously am not proud of and yet which I admire for their sheer gall. There is something very magnetic about the old me which doesn't exist anymore.
Third, following up on that point, it was pretty inspiring and encouraging to revisit the old me, with all that native optimism and drive. I don't express those qualities anymore because life has worn me down and also because I have come to recognize that humanity's problems are a lot more stubborn and irremediable than I thought. By glimpsing into the past, I couldn't help but be cheered on by the old Josh's proud, utopian sense of human inevitability. It lifted my own spirits in the here and now!
I made the mistake of announcing the book on Patreon right after I finished writing it, i.e. back in mid-March. Then I had to wring my hands every week about how post-production was taking longer than expected. Between the irritating realities of formatting a book in software not properly equipped to format a book (never write a book in Google Docs), the complexities of my detail-oriented manner and strong vision regarding the cover design (and engaging for the first time ever with modern generative AI, and having to learn those ropes), and sustaining illnesses and other life priorities and so on, it would take me another two months in all to finally reach today, where I can now publicly declare:
The book is done! It is for sale right now. It is called:
Tokens of Zeal: Words from a Vanished Age
Tumblr media
(Caption: Book front cover of Tokens of Zeal: Words from a Vanished Age, by Joshua Calars.)
You can buy it through Amazon in either paperback or e-book format. (I recommend the paperback version for aesthetics as it is much truer to my design vision for the book's layout and appearance, but my profit margin is actually a dollar bigger with the e-book version, so really just go with whichever version you prefer.) It is available in the US as well as in basically all the other countries that Amazon has expanded its publishing service into. If you need help finding a link to a particular version, give me a ping and I will point you there (if there is a "there" to be pointed to). This is my second published book, following Prelude to After The Hero in 2015, and the first book to be published in print.
If you do read it, first of all thank you! It's an honor that you would take the time. Second of all, I would love any feedback you care to offer. That's not a platitude either; feedback is hard to come by and I really would be interested in anything you have to say, good or bad. You can e-mail me, DM, reblog this, drop an ask, or tag me in an independent post. Whatever you like! Feedback will help me greatly when I eventually get around to writing Volume 2. And feel free to leave a review on Amazon, whether good or bad (though hopefully you enjoy the book); I am told it pleases The Algorithm. But most of all, if you enjoy the book, tell someone about it! Your word-of-mouth is currently 100 percent of my advertising budget, lol.
That's all. I wrote a book; it took four-and-a-half-months; it's done now; and it's the first time I've ever gotten to hold a book that I wrote in my hands as a physical thing, and that's pretty neat.

It's funny how Bridgerton got all this big talk about how women shouldn't be treated as chattels and breeding stocks while having the current female protagonist who in her own way, has treated others as chattels and breeding stocks, enabling her fans in cheering her on for that very behaviour and in reducing her co-lead to a prize for her to ultimately win, a doormat for her to trample on, a mere option she could consider but otherwise insignificant, instead of the main character in his own right, in other words, as chattels and breeding stocks. It's so funny. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Author!Shadow writes the best known murder mystery series on earth where everyone can’t keep the book down. He has won several awards for it and has it printed in 27 languages. Sometimes he goes into work and sees Rouge reading it and she talks nonstop about the characters.
The same can be said with Tails and Amy and Knuckles and Omega. But what really hits him the most is when Sonic talks to him about it. Shadow “pretends” to have never read it and gets Sonic to read it to him. And the boys sit down and read it together until dark.

This is my new favorite AU, oh my god❤️✨
I’m so proud of Author!Shadow.

Jaewon Breaking Through The Fog Of Depression [LONG POST]
So throughout the last several episodes, we’ve got Jaewon, and the reactions of the various people around him, trying to get him out of his funk one way or another. Let’s go through the list of failures, before we discuss who succeeded:
Taehyung. I’m not gonna waste any word count on that man, he doesn’t deserve it. He had no idea what Jaewon was going through much less why, so nothing he said was helpful or relevant. He was the one person actively trying to instigate Jaewon, thinking he’d banter back and not realizing how serious he considered the situation. Taehyung’s lack of empathy and ‘nunchi’ makes him unpalatable.
Tumblr media
Eunji. She’s an interesting one. Unlike Taehyung I think she understood more of why Jaewon was so affected (not because of his past but because of his present with Jihyun), but was afraid that she would lose him so she manipulated him in his vulnerable moments so that they stayed together. She kept trying to tell Jaewon that he was fine now in an attempt to convince him that he was, when in fact that probably just invalidated his feelings more than ever. Instead of encouraging his recovery it just made him feel misunderstood and alone.
Tumblr media
Jihyun. While Jaewon trusts Jihyun and knows that Jihyun knows him, he can’t believe a lot of what Jihyun says to him because he KNOWS that his opinions are biased. Jaewon may be thinking that Jihyun is saying what Jaewon wants to hear, not that he actually means it, and so Jaewon is automatically disinclined to believe him. He wants to believe him so badly but he’s convinced himself that there’s no way that Jihyun truly believes what he’s saying. Isn’t that the worst part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His Therapist. I know she means well, she’s the one other person who knows everything about Jaewon. But her job is to try and ‘cure’ him to the best of her abilities, and sometimes in trying to do that she missed what needs to be done. It’s unclear whether she’s being able to treat the symptom or the root issue. She tells Jaewon what he needs to do, but that’s easier said than done, otherwise he would’ve done it by now. Her telling him isn’t the point, he had to come to that conclusion by himself so that he believes it, before acting on it. It didn’t help that she was getting so visibly frustrated at his story and his reactions.
Tumblr media
Now. Who succeeded? It’s the most expected and most unexpected persons around Jaewon:
Yoonwon. Yoonwon is probably Jaewon’s one true friend, someone who knows what he’s like and doesn’t judge him for it ever. He genuinely cares for her and loves her. They’ve absolutely got each other’s backs, and if there’s one thing these two do it’s never lie to each other. Seeing Yoonwon break down after Jihyun gave his ultimatum was probably the first time we saw Jaewon get out of his depressive trance and react with energy. His hubris is his desire to take care and protect those around him (often to his own detriment), and that instinct kicks in for Yoonwon. Until now, Jaewon did what he thought was best to prevent Jihyun (or anyone else) from getting hurt, but seeing her he realized that people were getting hurt despite, or even because of what he was doing. It was the first step of many towards his change in attitude and perspective. What he was doing was not only not helping but it was actively hurting someone he loved, so something had to change.
Tumblr media
Restaurant Ahjumma. She’s a legend, she’s an icon, and she is the moment. Jaewon only knows her as a close friend of Jihyun, but has nothing personally connected to her. Even with leaving out specific details, he’s able to share his worries with her, and she (quite literally) smacks some sense into him, reminding him to look at the bigger picture and remember what’s actually important. Loving the ones you love, and pursuing your own happiness is more important to living than drowning in guilt, and taking care of yourself is the first step in that direction. She used the most simple of words that everyone understands to help Jaewon clear his mind. She knows nothing about Jaewon and he finds there’s a comfort in getting support from someone who doesn’t know you and had no opinion of you beforehand. Her combined street smart wisdom and maturity remind Jaewon of a more hopeful future.
Tumblr media
What I absolutely love is how Jaewon only managed to connect to two women for entirely opposite reasons, but with a similar result. Jaewon believes Yoonwon because they know each other so well and he knows she wouldn’t lie, and he believes the ahjumma because they don’t know each other at all and as someone Jihyun trusts she has no reason to lie. While on opposite ends of the spectrum, they are both people that Jaewon doesn’t have to put up a mask around, there’s no pretention. It tells us so much about Jaewon, what he values in a person and in a relationship. Yoonwon makes him realize what he’s doing is wrong, and the Ahjumma gives him the courage to do what is right.

Haha AI “artists” aren’t real you’re just stealing art with less steps. It takes less effort to put your shitty prompt in a generator than people that just steal art, and it’s still just as pathetic. Don’t follow me if you make “AI art”. Just fuck off.

Hi Jennifer, can you offer any advice/suggestions around managing marketing/ publicity as a picture book author who wants to write under a pen name and not do face-to-face interviews/ visits? Potentially happy to do some faceless social media, blogs, or podcasts but not interested in being publicly known due to privacy/ anxiety/ protecting my family. How would you recommend approaching this with agents/ publishers? Thanks
I don't want to minimize your concerns, so first let me say, if your fear is based around something truly scary (like you have an abusive ex who you are scared will come out of the woodwork or something like that?) -- or a privacy issue you worry will have blowback onto your real life (like your books are about being LGBTQ and you don't feel like you can come out because of your religion or day job or something like that?) -- Well, you just need to be honest with your agent and publishing team about what is going on, what you CAN do and what you CAN'T do, and let them help protect you and your privacy. Be candid with your agent from the time you sign with them, and they can handle having conversations with the publisher when the time comes that there is actually a book to promote.
WE CAN HELP YOU IF WE KNOW THERE'S A PROBLEM. We can't help you without the information! The good news is, your agent and publisher are not MONSTERS, and they don't want you to do anything that would put you in danger make you have a heart attack or anything like that!
Further good news: many opportunities you'd have to talk to people are NOT open to the general public. School visits and conferences and things like that are in controlled environments and would not really even be publicly advertised. So if you say ahead of time, look, I don't feel I can do public / open events because of this yikes situation, but I would feel OK, say, doing podcasts / blogs / talking to librarians / booksellers at a private luncheon during a conference, doing school visits on Zoom, or what have you -- they can totally work with that. Figure out what your comfort level is, and what you are willing and able to do, and ask for help if you need it.
That being said: If your problem is not quite as dire as all that, but is more about just general anxiety, well. I'm not saying "get over it" (OK, I am kind of saying that but hopefully nicer!) -- I just do think that perhaps, without an actual cause for concern, this is fear-based, as in, you are anxious, and your anxiety-brain is coming up with scenarios and rationalizing your fear rather than handling it. And if that's the case, there are ways around that. Perhaps it will help you a bit to realize that MANY authors have these feelings, and they are deal-with-able.
Because make no mistake, a certain amount of self-promotion, marketing efforts, etc, are pretty much mandatory. (As in, not only will they be expected, they might even be in your publishing contract.) Being an author is a public-facing job. Part of it involves promoting your work. School visits, bookstore visits, conferences, panels, signings, story-times, meeting kids, talking to teachers and librarians -- it's going to be tough to avoid all this stuff and also have a thriving career as a children's book author. Blog posts and podcasts are a start-- but they aren't going to move the needle a fraction in terms of sales compared to, say, meeting a bunch of booksellers at a conference or doing school visits and getting on state book lists because the librarians love you so much.
So see if you can get to the root of this. Where is the fear coming from?
If you feel like you can't things in public because of anxiety, see about managing your anxiety. (Therapy! Medicine! Meditation! There are things that can help!) If you are just nervous, like "oh, I don't love public speaking" -- MOST people are nervous, and few people DO love public speaking, you just get decent at it if you practice, and your audience can't tell if you feel like puking as long as you don't actually puke.
"I want to protect my family" "I want personal privacy", etc, are perfectly rational concerns to have. Of COURSE they are. But do you think, honestly, that every single author on earth who has a website and does school visits and book signings DOESN'T want to protect their family? That they DON'T care about their personal privacy? Of course they do. So how do they do that and still have a public-facing persona?
First, you already said you are planning to use a pen-name. Second, you also have control over your own image and you can curate your persona to be just what you want it to be. In other words, if you have a website that you create that is exactly how you want it, you choose the picture, you write the bio, you make the press kit, you choose what to talk about on social media, etc -- you can include or exclude whatever you want.
So if you are self-conscious, you can choose the headshot that makes you feel like a bad-ass, or the one where you are in a burrito costume, or whatever. If you don't want to talk about your kids or spouse -- DON'T! You don't need to mention them or name them. You don't need to say the town where you live (though the general region would be helpful). You don't need to say what your day job is or where you went to school.
When people write stories about you and your book, they will use the info and the headshot you've so helpfully provided, rather than digging up some random pics and info off the Internet. When you get invited to talk to some librarians, or do a school visit, it will be promoted using the info YOU have given them. Hopefully knowing that you are in control of your own narrative will give you a measure of comfort!
TL;DR: You don't have to do any promotion that makes you seriously uncomfortable or worse. But you do have to do SOMETHING. Talk to your agent!
