The door snaps against its chain, wedge of light from inside showing very little except for John’s hand braced against the frame, and a fragment of his face. “Yeah?” he asks, rough and tired. Gale swallows. “What, not even a ‘hi’?” He tries to drawl it out, but his heart is punching all nervy through his core, and it’s making his words wobble. The door slams shut. There’s scrabbling, metal on metal on wood and frantic hands, and then the door is all but gone, thrown wide to let all the light out and frame John, standing there in sharp relief. “Hi,” he says, and his face splits wide. “Hi,” he repeats, and he’s reaching for Gale. “Hi,” he breathes, and it’s into Gale’s neck. Gale wraps his arms around John’s back, tucking a kiss behind his ear. “How are ya? How was your flight?” “Are you surprised?” “I’m dreaming. Hi, baby.”

So Bill Veal in the show is played by Australian actor James Frecheville, who is really excellent in the movie Animal Kingdom (2012) dir. David Michod if you haven't seen it. Anyway so I see James Frecheville in MOTA and I'm like 🫵🫵🫵 but also like. From Melbourne you came and to Melbourne you will return. Which is to say, Bill in actors (and tenny too) is Australian.

His initial reaction would have been like. "Is that Oscar nominee John Egan?" But he's a fairly chill guy so he would acclimate pretty quickly. And he likes Gale obvi! They are friends! He likes that Gale is happy.

As mentioned in before you say cut, Bill is an actor too, and like Gale in before you say cut, he's kind of a struggling actor. But he's fine with that! This is his character tab on my Craft page for the "cast" of the actor AU:

So basically his passion is brewing ginger beer, alc and non-alc varieties. He will pop up again as a side character for sure. Eventually he and Gale will no longer be living together (wink) but he's definitely got his own stuff going on. His brewery (which I picture as a little kiosk type thing in a warehouse district, where they serve the ginger beer and his equally chill girlfriend [currently nameless] cooks up food pairings) gets extra traction when Bucky visits and agrees to a photo for their Instagram. So he does get compensated for walking in on the Buckies necking, and for what is probably a number of unintentional sightings of Bucky's dick while he walks naked to the bathroom thinking Bill isn't home.

That was a lot of waffle lmao but I too love Bill! Yay Bill <3

Hiiiiiiiiiii, bipolar II reader from a rambling comment on the Christmas fic here…I didn’t want to be Weird in the public of burn inside’s comments so I am electing to be Awkward (hopefully just Awkward!) in the marginally less public forum of your tumblr askbox instead. I know you are not really on tumblr at the moment, and I have no expectations of a swift reply (or even a reply at all!), and I don’t mind if you want to answer publicly, either. I just wanted to let you know how much your fic resonated with me.

I don’t have anything terribly intelligent to say but I have so many feelings about this fic and all of them are bruise-tender with love. There are so many things about John’s mindset here that feel like catching sight of yourself unexpectedly, like being able to look at yourself from the outside and realize that the way you feel about yourself internally isn’t really at all reflective of how others feel about you. If that made any sense at all! I am trying not to cry as I type this, apologies if I am a bit incoherent. It’s just, I’ve had the exact thoughts that John has here about being useless and not being deserving and wanting to be the person that I think other people think or expect that I am, and it’s so easy to look back on those patterns from a moment of relative stability and say that was the depressive episode talking…but it’s something else to say those things from within the episode and be met with love. All yous are worth knowing, darlin’. I can’t express how much it means to hear that (and won’t attempt to, greetings to you near-complete stranger), but (just from what you said in your reply to my Christmas fic comment) I think you probably know anyway.

So, uh. Thank you, is what I mean to say. I’m going to carry those words with me like a talisman. I hope we both have a Gale to say them when we can’t, and I hope you’re doing well. 💜

Thank you so much for sending this <3 I originally was going to reply privately but I decided to go public because I think there's a lot of stigma and vilification of bipolar still. That's partly why I wrote this one, because those attitudes are something I was finding hard to reconcile for myself. I had an experience a few months ago where someone who I trusted essentially told me that I was a danger to them while I was having an episode, and that they didn't want to hear anything about my episodes (while still talking to me about their mental illness), and frankly I think that contributed significantly to the depressive episode I've been working through for the past couple of months. It felt awful, to say the least.

Vancouver was always going to be about Gale seeing Bucky at his worst, and the image of him as an untouchable big-name actor being shattered—not in a bad way. I wanted it to be about Gale seeing Bucky for all he is, and (just as in the show) refusing to let that push him away. The experience I had earlier this year really gave me the fuel to finally write it, mostly because of the low I hit.

This installment of actors was always going to be a super personal one for me, and not just because I love movies. Writing can sometimes be the only way to work through stuff, and this one is definitely drawn from my own headspace and feelings. Write what you know, right?

Which is all to say, you're not awkward at all and I'm so grateful and humbled that you had the same experience reading it as I did writing it. I wanted to write something which felt authentic, and while I do think I got it feeling how I wanted it to, there's never a way to know whether that will translate for readers. I'm just so happy that it resonated for you. I'm posting this in case another bipolar person sees it and remembers as well that all of them is worth knowing <3 <3 <3

GALEY IN PARACHUTE !!!! is this shoot when John meets Cathy??? how do the boys like NOLA? what does Westie think of working with Gale?? does Parachute get some buzz and awards (and more roles for gale)? sorry to bombard you with questions (ok if you don’t want to answer!) but i love this au and was THRILLED (!!!! to say the least) with the new installment

Galey in Parachute! It's not unheard of for projects to recast once rehearsals kick off and they realise that an actor isn't quite right for the role, and I knew I wanted the experience of him getting another significant role after The Long Slow Draw to be a rocky one.

This is the shoot where Bucky meets Cathy! The shoot will be a bit of a long one, around 7 months, and John won't be there the whole time because he's a busy boy. He'll go home for a bit, but will return later in the shoot, and that's where the b-side of him meeting Cathy slots in.

After the Parachute shoot, Gale and Bucky will roll straight into press for The Long Slow Draw, which also generates a lot of buzz for Gale and, yes, generates more offers for him. He gets his first role without audition, which is a part in Ev's upcoming movie R.

Awards! There are noms for Gale as a supporting actor in The Long Slow Draw, and Bucky as a lead actor, and some noms for technical stuff—Emmys and GGs. Then for Parachute, it's all attention on Sandra for the first season, but Gale does get critically lauded and will get a nom for the second season. Bucky will get some big ones (and big wins) for Bored+Sore, which is really hard for him to reconcile because of what he did to get the performance.

I loved your new fic! I hope there will be another installment in the series I love this AU!

I’m so curious about how the party went tho! Did Bosser show up? Was Bucky’s prediction that he’d be creeping on Gale correct?

He would have, briefly! Gale would've got stuck in a brief conversation with him, and just like Bucky predicted, Bosser would have said something like "I feel the power of God in you" and Gale would have balked on anything to say in reply except for "In all of us, pal" and just walked away. Bucky would be circling like a predator in the background the whole time.

The choice to have Bosser (the kid from the first ep who pisses himself on the plane and gives himself frostbite on his ass) be Bucky's director for Bored+Sore was a bit of an arbitrary one, and was more about the idea of him being a wunderkind director who is more focused on proving himself than the welfare of his cast. Some of the stuff he does, like filming without a permit and not using an intimacy coordinator, is inspired by director Sean Baker (who is older, but gets away with a lot of shit).

I hope there'll be another installment! If I can make myself write it. It will probably be a long time between drinks, just like this one. I didn't want to rush it and had to write it when it felt right for me. But there are definitely plans for New Orleans and Gale's experience filming Parachute.

they are episode titles yeah! they're not fleshed out but there are some things figured out. in episode 1, God Can't Hear You, Flannery hunts down and kills a man in a church, which sets Dowden on his tail. Like Little Lambs is an origins ep which shows Flannery before he became an outlaw and what led to him murdering his preacher father. in Butcher's Hands, Dowden's brother Pony dies.

bc part of the inspo for The Long Slow Draw was actually Killing Eve, the episode titles have been picked as lines that would be said during the episode! we (@angelfruittree and i) have sort of been working backwards in that way lmfao

fun fact is that Benny DeMarco plays a member of Flannery's gang, August Terrell. he's then later cast opposite Gale in another Blakely project, a film titled R.

Hello my beloved I just wanted to share that I finally watched Challengers the other day and I like your version better

this is really sweet! i personally think Challengers is a close-to-perfect movie, but everyone has different tastes i guess. anyway i'm really glad and grateful that you like tenny fic <3 <3 <3 i have made a start on the next chapter (about 300 words lmao) and it's obvi all planned out, so it'll come eventually.

a teaser:

this is actually directly Challengers-inspired; it's a drill that Tashi has Art run on the day of his match early in the film. basically it's about accuracy, and the player earns a point when they hit the cone. Marge and Gale do twenty balls for this drill.

what i'll say about this though is that Marge isn't his coach... yet? who knows!
