Absinthe: Unraveling the Mystique of the Green Fairy
Absinthe, often shrouded in mystery and intrigue, has captivated the imagination of artists, writers, and enthusiasts for centuries. From its origins in Switzerland to its controversial reputation in the 19th century, exploring the history and allure of absinthe unveils a fascinating tale of art, culture, and craftsmanship.
The Origins of Absinthe: Absinthe traces its roots back to the late 18th century in Switzerland, where it was first concocted as a medicinal elixir by a French doctor named Pierre Ordinaire.
Derived from botanicals such as wormwood, anise, and fennel, absinthe quickly gained popularity for its purported therapeutic properties and unique flavor profile.
The Rise of the Green Fairy
In the 19th century, Absinthe experienced a surge in popularity, particularly among artists and writers in France and throughout Europe.
Dubbed the "Green Fairy" for its emerald hue and alleged hallucinogenic effects, absinthe became synonymous with bohemian culture and creative inspiration.
The Absinthe Controversy
Despite its widespread appeal, absinthe soon became embroiled in controversy due to concerns over its supposed psychoactive properties and association with societal ills.
In the early 20th century, absinthe was banned in several countries, including France, Switzerland, and the United States, leading to its prohibition and underground status for decades.
Absinthe Renaissance
In recent years, absinthe has experienced a resurgence in popularity as artisanal distillers revive traditional production methods and rekindle interest in this storied spirit.
With its complex flavors, ritualistic preparation, and rich cultural heritage, absinthe continues to enchant aficionados and newcomers alike, reclaiming its place as a beloved libation in the world of spirits.
I’ve talked about this before, but just- the way seasons five and six have so many jokes about spin-off shows, the way that episodes repeatedly end with “so what’s the message here?”, the way that the allusions get forced back into reality- like the show is itself asking “why am I still here. Why is a show about a community college going on for six seasons”
Cause we’re not grounded in Abed’s desire to connect anymore. The genre bending stuff isn’t an attempt to better understand and communicate difficult concepts, its escapism. It’s an attempt to step away from the world of the show to something better. We’re not grounded by Abed anymore. We’re grounded by Jeff.
Jeff’s the one who’s asking “why am I still here. Why have I been in a community college for six years.” And in the same way the reality of the show used to bend to Abed (like us seeing everything in claymation when he does, instead of from another perspective) it now bends to Jeff, now reflects his feelings of desperation to get out of here
I truly feel that Jeff doesn’t become the ‘main’ character until season 5. Before that, it’s Abed.
In fact, I’d say that the switch happens when Troy leaves. That’s the last time we see the world bend to Abed’s perspective without mocking it. Cause the world is now grounded in Jeff, and he’s an asshole
It's been nearly two decades since the end of main canon, and nearly one since No Breaths from Hell. If Kubo won't give my boy a glow-up, so help me, I will.
diving down into my drafts (which i use to store future reblogs) and discovered that this was flagged during the prohibition era. oddly enough @myglorydayswon‘s reblog of it isn’t flagged, yet it gets tripped again as soon as i reblog it. op has been inactive since 2019 so the odds of getting him back here just to appeal one of his posts is unlikely. if this were posted by him now it probably wouldn’t get flagged, especially if he put a community label on it. i can’t use community labels in the legacy editor so we’ll see how this goes. at one point when you clicked the “missing community label” button it would just apply a community label for you., but then it started just flagging your post instead so i don’t know what will happen here.

Castlevania Prohibition AU
I’m having way too much fun with this one. Alucard is too powerful, Sypha is adorable, and Trevor’s just done. Definitely gonna be drawing more characters in this au, stay tuned!
Fic summary: Blaine was certain that Kurt could entertain. He watched the way that Kurt gently held the metallic neck of the Carbon microphone stand with one hand, caressing it so intimately close that his lips were just shy of brushing against the metal grille. Blaine was reasonably entranced by the pure level of subtle showmanship that Kurt possessed.
So few have ever captivated Blaine the way Kurt did, and he’ll be damned if he lets someone like that go so easily.
