Books Bans Are Bullshit
If anyone needs to have a ready-made clapback for conversations about the ethics surrounding bans on queer literature, feel free to put on your history cap and remind your opponent that the Comstock Laws, which are the basis for current arguments for banning books on the basis of "moral issues," were the brainchild of a man who hated women and books, attempted to ban the provision of anatomy textbooks to medical students, attempted to trap multiple companies which provided "obscene, lewd, or lascivious" material through mail order, opposed civil liberties so violently that it landed him in JAIL, and was made so uncomfortable by nudity that he attempted to sue a department store for the brief nudity of their mannequins during merchandise changes.
Anthony Comstock was a fucking loser and so are the jackholes still clinging to his rhetoric.
Educate yourselves, my darlings. Then go forth and eviscerate.

Queueing to make it clear this isn't a one-time thing or vagueing a specific person and more an irritating trend, but: if you have speculation or a personal wish for a story, that is always totally cool and you can and should post about it to your heart's content but it is pretty irritating to post it on other people's theory posts unless you can construct a logical argument and relate it back to their theory.
You want to see a guest character return? Okay, pitch me how this is related to my post, and why it would make particular sense within the story. You think a ship is going to happen? Great, say something other than "Um, I have eyes" on my post if you want to reply to me. You think this campaign is going to go on until level 20? Do you have an argument other than "I want it to?" Then give it, otherwise this would really be better suited to you making your own post.
You don't need an argument in your own post! I think it's wise to have one if you have any interest in convincing other people (and indeed, I tend to find that if there's a lot of MAN WOULDN'T IT BE COOL evidence- and argument-free posts in the tag for something I wasn't already inclined to like, it will make me feel more unfavorable towards it), but if you're posting for yourself and not to make a point you can and should just say what you want! You do need one when you're shoving it onto mine though because now I'm going to get all the people responding to you and I don't want them. Also when people do this and I don't care for their theory I tend to hide the reblog, or I just make the post nonrebloggable if it takes off and I'm sufficiently annoyed, and now no one can see or respond to the theory because they didn't write your own post and I'm in control! Writing your own posts is great! Please, if you are not directly responding to the content of an original post but rather going off on your own tangent, make your own post instead of getting on theirs.

all online discourse about "good" vs "bad" books and writing taking skill would be solved if people saw the ability to entertain as a skill lmao. every day a "thought daughter" shits on rom coms after reading three literary fiction books without realizing that comparing the two genres is useless because they each fundamentally require different skills — as well as being written for a completely different goal; our hypothetical rom com authors were simply not trying to write a philosophical piece on suffering, they were trying to write a rom com, so what's the point in believing one is inferior to the other when neither of them is trying to be anything like or unlike the other? Of course tiktok has had a weird annoying effect on publishing by turning it into a tropey capitalist shitshow but that's not the fault of rom com authors, it's the fault of tiktok.

just realized my situation in college is so funny rn. heres why in a greentext format
>be gumy's parents
>you are Good Christian Parents who want your daughter to Walk In The Ways Of The Lord
>when she wanted to go to a secular college you were Very Worried that your Impressionable Daughter would get Radicalized By The Godless Atheist College People (this one is actually somewhat justified- i AM very impressionable and got radicalized in junior high in a way that was very very hard on my mental health and my relationships with my family)
> be relieved when she chooses to go to a Good Christian College instead (it was my own free choice and i had my reasons).
> surely, with her environmental science classes being taught from a God-Fearing Perspective, and with no Godless Atheist College People there, she won't get radicalized!
> she gets radicalized anyways

As someone who is pro artist and believes in a significantly more regulated tech industry in general, I do find it funny when people are like GenAi is not actually intelligent!!! It’s just a bunch of statistics!!! It just copies the training data!!! They’re lying that it’s actually AI!!!!
My homies in Christ, that’s what all AI is like from the most basic classifier to neural nets, trained statistics machines to make decisions. That’s,,, literally our current definition of AI

tbh I think my new answer any time someone calls americans dumb for using imperial or fahrenheit is going to be “okay, what do you want us to do about it tho? ask our government to change it?? our government??? the one that just had one major branch freeze entirely because after like three straight days they couldn’t decide something as basic as who’s in charge???? that government?????”

Anyway
i am begging you to understand that the news that is most heavily circulated amongst average (not leftist, not right wing, just general not-super-political) Jewish Americans very selectively covers JUST the Actively Antisemitic images/moments from pro-Palestine rallies. If there are three people there holding signs conflating Israel and Jews, or calling for a second shoah, THAT is what is most prevalent in Jewish news. Zionist news sources don’t WANT Jews to be pro-Palestine, so they make it seem as though pro-Palestine individuals ARE antisemitic, even though the antisemitic individuals are fringe extremists using this as an excuse to air their hatred for Jews
