Does/Do your Muse(s) celebrate Halloween?

Growing up in Japan, Halloween was not a popular concept initially. (As it was more of a Western holiday.) Hiro was exposed to Halloween during a family trip (in reality, it was a business trip for his stepmother) in Los Angeles as a pre-teen when he saw the decorations. While out at a cafe with his sister and father, his sister, who was more fluent in English, asked the cafe workers about the decorations and themed treats.

"Halloween's tomorrow," one of the clerks explained. "We actually stay open tomorrow and offer candy to people who come in costume. You guys don't celebrate it?"

Hiro found it fascinating, but his school and neighborhood in Japan didn't start celebrating Halloween officially until after he graduated and was accepted to university in South Korea. There, he was exposed to university parties and bars that would do themed Halloween events and parties. He eventually got into the idea of dressing up and had fun doing it.

7. Favorite Halloween costume they've ever done?

One year he did Billy the Puppet from Saw when he was invited to a university party. He even rode in on a small bike to complete the look. While he's not a big fan of the series per se, due to all of the bloody games/imagery, he liked that costume since it did hide his regular identity and some of the judgmental classmates (ex. Namseon) had no idea who was Billy that night. Instead, he was that cool person who had the best Billy costume ever.

14. Does your Muse have any superstitions surrounding Halloween?

Not really. While it isn't a superstition, Hiro tries to make a point to give candy out to at least one person that day, as it makes him happy to see the kids get the candy and run off with their full bags. With some things changing, he tries to bring candy if he's invited to a party and there are families or kids present, as he knows not every parent brings their kids to traditional neighborhoods or apartment complexes like his.

Does/Do your Muse(s) celebrate Halloween?

Yes, which started at an early age. Her late father Rory did not have Halloween back in Scotland and was fascinated by the concept when he came to the States for school and work. When he was alive, he and Maike would make costumes for their daughters and would often deck their house out in cool decorations.

After he passed away, Briggs was unable to celebrate properly once she was shipped off to private school and longed for the days when her father was alive. When she got older and graduated, she did a much more scaled back version of what her father used to do as she lives in a smaller space and there are rules about decorations at her complex.

Her workplace would allow costumes if the agents and personnel are not on a mission that day or if in the off chance, the mission coincides with a Halloween event and a costume is required for blending in. (There were instances where she had to retro-fit some costumes for field agents with the standard protections in their bespoke suits and add spy gadgets to their props – she found the experience amusing and kind of fun.)

7. Favorite Halloween costume they've ever done?

During a period when she cut her hair shorter, she did Amelia Earhart and used an old pilot cap that belonged to someone in their family who served in the Air Force back in the day.

14. Does your Muse have any superstitions surrounding Halloween?

When she was at private school, she did get a little leery of the concept of Bloody Mary and chanting her name to a mirror in the dark at a specific hour. This was due to some bizarre coincidences where some of the overconfident girls tried it and a couple had some bad luck, like getting sick, one twisted her ankle during a basketball practice, etc.

As an adult, she doesn't really believe in the legend, but you won't find her chanting something to a mirror.

Everyone is allowed to dislike whatever they want but if Ayato is your least/one of your least favorite DL characters, then your opinion ISN’T valid. This is a franchise full of abusive characters and he’s literally the most heroic love interest. Why would you hate the hero…?

“He’s dumb and annoying”, says the person who spends their time insulting FICTIONAL characters. 1) Japanese fans like dumb characters, since they come off as endearing; 2) Ayato outdid everyone throughout the routes.

He did more good than all of his brothers and saying that X, Y or Z deserves the main role more, is fake fan behavior because at this point you’re just setting up your favs.

Kanato:

No, you’re not cool for calling him ugly. It’s okay if you’re not into that type of characters but his design is not bad at all.

“He had no development”, he does in CL. It’s not major but it can still be visible.

The whole Teddy thing might be annoying to some of you, but his fans get why he acts that way. Let’s not forget that he is a victim of neglect.

Yes, he was sexually exploited too. Don’t forget this x2.

Laito:

“I hate Laito so much, he was so cruel in HDB 😢”; stop living in the past and move on already.

His development shouldn’t be overlooked only because your opinion about him was formed on something that came out more than 10 years ago.

He’s still the most fascinating DL character and I get that he might make some of you feel uncomfortable but don’t project your triggers on a character that’s merely made after a trope.

Shu:

No, it’s not Shu’s fault for the way Reiji acted. Envy is never a good reason to hurt someone.

“Shu roasts the heroine the most!”, I get that it’s rude but his insults are actually funny?? A bunch of people will like him for being brutally honest or a jerk because it’s literally a game for players with masochistic fantasies. They WANT to be roasted by good-looking men. That’s the point.

“Shu is lazy and stupid, he’s the only one who failed his school year”, genuine question: If you were an immortal creature that doesn’t need food or sleep to survive, would you still care about grades? Besides, he’s really smart.

“Shu doesn’t care about Yuma, he just feels guilty”, in LE he sacrificed himself for him and reincarnated merely because he wished to meet Yuma again and get on well with him in another life—

Reiji:

“He hurt Shu and Yuma”, well yeah but he was shown plenty of times regretting it and trying to fix things. Stop reminding this to Reiji stans because that conflict is already closed.

“He is so mean in other routes”, obviously?? If you don’t teach him how to love, he won’t suddenly act nice towards anyone.

Without him Yui would fail her tests and the Sakamaki household would be in chaos.

Subaru:

“W-What do you mean baby Tsundere is not soft innocent virgin boy? 🥺”; he has never been like that, that’s how YOU perceived him. Stop acting so shocked every time Subaru does something bad because he’s still a vampire after all??

Also, why are so many people reducing his character to Kou and/or Yui—? He’s much more than that and has his own interests, struggles, likes, dislikes, and so on.

“He’s irrelevant”; Diabolik Lovers has 13 love interests, they can’t make everyone extremely important to the general plot. Just enjoy a character as it is, it’s not that hard.

Ruki:

The cat jokes were funny when the Meow Meow Vampire art came out but MOVE ON. I hate that scene and Ruki was in the wrong but come on now, that’s not even the worst thing he has done and MB happened in 2013.

I understand not liking Ruki as a person, because he’s mostly not a good one, but this doesn’t mean he’s not a good character.

“Ruki deserved what happened to him in the past because he was cruel towards everyone”; while I agree that Karma hit him, I wouldn’t say any child really deserves to go through that. He was just a spoiled brat, who most likely wasn’t taught by his parents about modesty or kindness.

Kou:

“He was so cruel in MB 😣”, and HE HAD DEVELOPMENT! He’s not the same anymore, nobody is.

“He overreacts”, sometimes he’s not in the wrong and has all rights to be angry.

Kou isn’t afraid of going against Ruki, even if he’s the brother he admires the most, as long as he knows that what Ruki is doing isn’t good.

Yuma:

“He beat Yui up in the MB bad ending!😡😡”, it’s a bad ending for a reason, lol.

Pretty reminder that Yuma always tries to help others with Kou and Azusa, and was even willing to save the ghouls in LE.

“Yuma doesn’t care about Shu”, did we play the same game or…?

Azusa:

“Azusa is so horrible, he threw Teddy in the fire!”; and he only did it to save Yui, it was not intentional.

While not all his actions are good, keep in mind that he never means any harm and is overall such a sweet guy.

“He is too clingy”; I know that might not be everyone’s cup of tea but is it really worth hating a character just for wanting affection?

The Tsukinamis and Kino:

“They were too easy to defeat in DF!”; Dark Fate wasn’t entirely about them to begin with. Most routes focused on the boys’ internal struggles with their trauma and how to move past it.

“Kino is sometimes mean for the sake of being mean”; it’s almost as if he’s the ✨villain✨

It’s dumb questioning the morals of characters supposed to have an antagonistic role.

“Kino hurt Ayato in LE”; out of all characters who have wronged Ayato, at least Kino felt bad and wanted to apologize.

Yui:

“She’s dumb and ugly”; Japanese fans literally love her for being an idiot because it wouldn’t be fun to see the heroine being the best at everything or not making mistakes at all. Plus, her design is definitely not ugly.

Stop creating your own version of Yui in your head and ending up disappointed when she doesn’t act the way you expect her to. No, Yui is not OOC for liking being bitten, having a low learning ability or saying things she shouldn’t in the wrong moments. Nobody is perfect and everyone has their own kinks and flaws.

“She’s too innocent”; she’s not?? If you really want to see her thirsty, go play Ayato’s routes, especially the heaven scenarios.

“She’s weak”, she’s the opposite. Yui is one of the most mentally strong DL characters.

I can’t understand people who hate on heroines when they’re present in all routes and are the most positive characters.

Surprise Arrival

Pairing - Mickey 'Fanboy' Garcia x sister!reader

Word count - 1,464

Warnings - mentions of bad familial relationships, little bit of angst, mostly fluff

Summary - after turning up on Mickey's doorstep one night, you finally get to meet the Daggers

A/N - hey y'all it's been a while but here's a new fic! I really hope I did this request justice. I've never written for Mickey before so it was definitely new territory so I just hope it was good enough somehow. I won't ramble but as per y'all please send in requests, feedback, and enjoy!!!

While Mickey Garcia, better known by his callsign Fanboy, was one of the more talkative of the Daggers. They didn’t know a lot about his private life. He could talk for days on end about Star Wars and Star Trek and debate various topics on both franchises, but he never chose to be completely open about things that happened in his life outside of work.

What the Daggers didn’t know about Mickey was that he had grown up with a rocky relationship with his parents. He loved and respected them, but he soon figured out they didn’t extend a similar courtesy to him, especially when he told them about how he applied to the Naval Academy. The worst part of it all was having to leave his little sister behind when he moved out. You were the one person he was closest to in the family, and he hated leaving you behind, but he made sure to stay in regular contact with you, so you maintained the strong sibling bond you had.

Then one evening you showed up at his front door.

You hadn’t given Mickey any kind of warning that you were going to do such a thing. He had just heard a knock at the door and gone to answer it, assuming it was Reuben coming around to check in on Mickey like he did occasionally but instead he was greeted with the sight of you behind the door, teary-eyed and a bag slung over your shoulder.

“y/n? What are you doing here?” Mickey asks, eyes wide in confusion as he peeks out the door, expecting to see you with someone else.

“Can I come in, please?” You ask quietly, voice evidently thick with the tears you’re trying to hold back. Mickey doesn’t respond with words, just opening the door wider and ushering you inside when he hears the slight pattering of rain against the pavement.

“Okay, you gotta tell me what’s up? How’d you even afford a flight out here?” Mickey asks the moment you’re in the house, taking your bag and setting it down while you sit yourself on the sofa, winding your arms around your middle as if to protect yourself.

“I’ve been saving up money from my job for a while now. I couldn’t bear to stay there any longer it’s like they’ve gotten ten times more unbearable since you left, and I can’t handle it, Mickey. Please let me stay with you. I can’t go back.” You explain, looking at your older brother with tear-filled eyes that break his heart as he listens to what you have to say.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t know it had gotten that bad. Of course, you can stay. You’re my sister. And if they ask me if you’re here I can tell them you’re not if you don’t want them to know where you are.” Mickey says, moving to sit next to you on the sofa and watching carefully as you nod gratefully at his words before burying yourself into his side for a sudden hug he was quick to return.

A week after your sudden arrival, you had been settling into your new life. Mickey had managed to get into contact with your old school and arrange a transfer to a nearby school. Mickey had also noticed how much happier you were now that you were permanently living with him. However, despite all that, the Daggers still had no clue about your arrival. He had been declining regular hangouts outside of work with them in favour of spending time with you to make up for the time he lost. He felt slightly guilty for constantly turning down the Daggers since he was usually the one encouraging the others to hang out and now, he was hiding away. One day, Mickey decided to bring up the topic of meeting the Daggers to you.

“Hey y/n/n. How would you feel about meeting the people I work with? There’s no pressure if you don’t want to of course.” Mickey offers as the two of you eat dinner, carefully watching your reaction to gauge how you might feel about it.

“Are they nice?” Was your response, and Mickey nodded without hesitation.

“We tease each other sometimes but it’s in good fun. They’re practically my family. They’ll love you I can promise you that.” Mickey says, doing his best to explain how much the Daggers mean to him. You listen carefully to his words, staying silent for a moment after he finishes speaking before finally nodding your head.

“Okay. I’d like to meet them.” You say, giving your brother a small smile as he grins in response.

“I can’t wait for you to meet them.”

A few days later, the Daggers had arranged to meet at the Hard Deck for their weekly Friday hangout and Mickey had made sure to send you a message letting you know where they were meeting and at what time, making sure to let you know that you could arrive whenever.

“It’s been ages since you hung out with us, Fanboy. Did your lady dump you or something?” Javy jokes as he slaps Mickey on the back as the Daggers grab their first round of beers.

“My lady?” Mickey asks, glancing around at all the Daggers with a confused expression.

“You’ve been ditching us a lot lately, so we just assumed you got yourself a girl.” Jake shrugs as he lifts his beer bottle to his lips before taking a swig.

“No, it’s nothing like that at all. I’ll explain myself soon, I promise.” Mickey says quickly, internally cringing at the team’s assumptions. The team seem to back off then, muttering to themselves and drinking their beers as they all move over to the pool table.

Half an hour after the Daggers arrived at the Hard Deck, you arrived too. You enter the bar, carefully navigating around the groups of people as you search for your brother until you finally catch sight of him chatting with some people by the pool table and slowly make your way over to him.

“Hey, Mickey.” You greet as you reach him, smiling as he lights up, immediately grabbing you into a hug.

“You came!” Mickey exclaims happily, hugging you tight as the rest of the group becomes aware of the interaction.

“Who’s this Fanboy?” Someone asks as you pull away from the hug, instantly aware of the pairs of eyes watching you.

“This is y/n. She’s, my sister.” Mickey introduces you to the group, winding an arm around your shoulders and pulling you into his side as you smile sheepishly. At the introduction, the team bursts into questions, all talking over each other as they ask both you and Mickey various questions.

“Whoa calm down guys. If you let them speak maybe, you’ll actually get an explanation.” A voice says strongly as a woman with black hair steps forward, glancing around at the rest of the team who quickly quieten down, mumbling apologies.

“Thanks, Phoenix.” Mickey mumbles gratefully, smiling quickly at her before focusing his attention on the rest of his squadron.

“y/n has decided she wants to live out here with me. I know I never really told you guys anything about my family but that’s just because I didn’t feel like it had any place in our conversations.” Mickey explains, looking around at all the Daggers as they exchange looks before Bradley clears his throat and steps forward.

“You’re always welcome to talk to us about anything. Doesn’t matter what. We’re your team and we’ll always be there for you.” He says, clapping Mickey on the shoulder as Reuben takes a step towards you.

“Hey, there y/n. I’m Reuben, or Payback if you prefer. I’m your brother’s pilot.” He introduces himself, holding a hand out for you to shake which you do with a smile.

“So, you’re the one who has to put up with Mickey.” You say with a laugh as Reuben chuckles nodding his head, both of you ignoring Mickey’s faux gasp of shock.

“The one and only.” Reuben says before more of the Daggers step forward to introduce themselves to you and once the introductions are over, they integrate you into their conversations smoothly and you feel like you’ve known them much longer than you have.

“I think we should make y/n an unofficial member of the Daggers.” Jake says after you finish telling a story about growing up with Mickey as your older brother, which is soon followed by sounds of agreement from the rest of the Daggers. As you watched them all nodding and agreeing with Jake’s words, you felt your heart swelling with happiness as Mickey tugged you into a side hug, smiling down at you.

You had finally found your family.

However, after seeing this new CrossFit Set by @syboubou, inspiration hit me like a train! I made sure to include as many activities as possible! And of course, there's a Simsbucks Coffee Shop next to the gym for the after-workout section - because at this point, I'm filling the worlds with as much as I can of it, so it feels like a real franchise LOL.

Heyyyy I love your dc stories and I wanted to ask if you maybe would write one for me.

Story would be: Teen trans!male reader that is (soon to be officially) adopted by the batfam and has been with them for a while. He didn‘t tell them he was trans and Jason was going into reader‘s room for a usb stick or something like that and sees blueprints and a handmade binder reader made so he can patrol better. Reader walks in on Jason staring at the binder and almost get‘s a panic attack. That is because the adoption is to be official soon and reader is scared that they would kick him out for being trans. Jason comforts him and it turns into a heart to heart. Dick and Tim were searching for their brothers bcs patrol starts soon and they didn‘t show up in the cave. They find them in reader’s room. And then fluff just ensues.

Four days. Four days until you become a legal member of the family. At first, you were ok keeping being trans a secret, but the closer the official adoption day came, the more anxious you became. Sure, Bruce donated to tons of LGBTQ+ charities and several of your brothers were on the queer spectrum, but how would he feel having a son who was…different?

Would he still want to adopt you? Even worse—you knew your family’s more private lives. How you had taken on a private life. What would happen when Bruce tosses you aside when he inevitably finds out?

You were sitting in the kitchen, scrolling on your phone and eating cereal despite it being around 12:00 am.

The door to the kitchen opened and you glanced up to see Jason coming in, clad in his Red Hood suit, save for the helmet.

“Yo, loser. You got a free usb? Need it for blackmail storage.” He asked casually.

You raised your eyebrows in a ‘seriously?’ expression and swallowed the bite in your mouth.

“Yeah, it’s in my room on my desk. Next to the lamp.” You went back to scrolling through your phone. “You better buy me another one, I need it for a school project.”

Jason just gave you a thumbs up and walked out of the kitchen. When he got to your room he walked to your desk and grabbed the usb, but something akin to blueprints caught his eye and he stopped to examine them.

‘Hope he doesn’t go snooping through my room, I could have embarrassing stuff lying around.’

You thought to yourself, taking the final bite of cereal.

‘Though I don’t know what he’d find—basically everything embarrassing is hidden or put away…’

You drank the milk from your bowl and got up to put it in the sink.

‘What did I even do in my room today?’

You were hardly paying attention to whatever was on your phone screen now.

‘basically just worked on making my binder and I put that away—‘

Your heart dropped to your stomach and suddenly the cereal wasn’t sitting well with you.

‘You didn’t put it away because you weren’t done with it tonight. You didn’t put it away because you were hungry.’

You dropped your bowl and it shattered on the kitchen floor. You ran as fast as you could to your room, through the broken shards of the bowl.

You practically threw yourself up the stairs and sprinted so fast to your room you almost passed it. You caught yourself on the doorframe, panting heavily. Your feet stung so much, you dropped to your knees.

To your horror, Jason held the design for your binder in one hand and the prototype in the other. Your throat constricted suddenly and you heaved for air. Jason looked at you and he dropped the binder and blueprints in his hand. He rushed to your side.

“Hey hey hey hey. What’s wrong? Are you hurt? Deep breaths. In for four, out for four. Follow my breathing.” Your older brother placed your hand on his chest and demonstrated the breathing patterns.

You followed to the best of your ability, focusing on being able to breathe so you could talk and explain and maybe—just maybe—have a chance to not blow this.

When you could breathe relatively normally again, you immediately began to explain.

“I swear—I swear—it’s not—I don’t—I just—PLEASE DON’T KICK ME OUT! YOU’RE THE ONLY REAL FAMILY I’VE EVER KNOWN AND—” You settled for when you couldn’t explain what was found out about you.

“HEY!” Jason snapped you out of your rambling. “Who said anything about being kicked out?”

You hadn’t even realized his arm was around your shoulders but it suddenly felt comfortably heavy. You rubbed away the tears that had gathered in your eyes and looked at him.

“First off, you’re still being adopted, ok? Nothing will change that.” He started with. “Second. What you’re doing is extremely dangerous. Why are you binding unsafely?”

You looked up at him.

“I just…I couldn’t bring myself to even consider coming out to you.” You gulped heavily, looking back to the ground. Jason’s arm tightens around you comfortingly.

“I’m sorry if we ever made you feel like that. I’m sorry if I ever made you feel like that.” Your older brother says sadly.

You shook your head ‘no’, leaning into him.

“It wasn’t your fault. I just didn’t have the courage…” You trail off.

“When I came out—it—“ Jason huffs a laugh. “Man—it was awful.”

You looked at him, urging him to keep going.

“Ok, so I found out I like guys and girls, right?” He was smiling now, adjusting himself into a more comfortable position. “But I was all anxious to come out, ya know? I found a guy I wanted to go out with and I didn’t wanna hide it from…dad.” You didn’t ignore Jason actually calling Bruce ‘dad’.

“—and this was before Dick came out so he had like barely any idea about labels and stuff—“ Your older brother continued. “So I stand up and tell him ‘Bruce, I’m bi.’” Jason paused.

“And?” You asked.

“I have never seen someone so smart, so confused. He says—entirely seriously—‘Jason, you only speak one language.’” Jason burst out into laughter.

You laughed with him. It felt nice. You felt seen, in a way.

Time passed, you’re not sure how long. Maybe an hour? It was long enough for two of your other brothers to take notice and look for their missing brothers, ready to berate them for being late to patrol.

You and Jason were on the floor wheezing after he had showed you some meme he found.

You heard a knock on the door and saw your two older brothers peer into your room. Dick titled his head and Tim raised an eyebrow at the state of you and Jason. Them walking in sobered you up a bit from your laughing fit. You swallowed and glanced at Jason. He sat up and nodded at you encouragingly.

Dick and Tim glanced between the two of you. You stood up and cleared your throat.

“I’m—I’m trans.” You ripped the band aid off.

Dick and Tim blinked owlishly at you. Tim talked first.

“So…your pronouns are—?” Tim started.

“—he/him.” You interrupted.

Tim nodded, still seeming to process the information. Your answer seemed to only confuse Dick more. Jason made eye contact with Dick and gave him a look of “say something, asshole.” That startled Dick from his stupor.

“Dude! I’m so proud!” He said gleefully, opening his arms for a hug, which you gladly gave.

Tim gave you a side hug too.

“Does Dad know?” Dick asked.

You shook your head

“No.” You sighed.

“You probably should tell him.” Tim patted you on the back.

“But what about the adoption—“ You were cut off by Jason.

“Hey, what did I say about the adoption?” Jason scolded.

You groaned. “Yeah yeah…coming out won’t change anything…” You sighed.

Your three older brothers nodded in approval which made you roll your eyes.

“We’re proud of you.” Dick smiled and ruffled your hair. “Bruce will be too.” He added.

“Proud of what?”

You looked to the door and saw your father standing in the doorframe.

You took a deep breath and walked over to your father.

“Dad, I’m trans.” Your voice cracked and you couldn’t meet his eyes.

A large hand rested on your shoulder. You looked at Bruce.

“Well we better make sure those adoption papers are correct then.” He smiled at you.

i posted about a select element of this concept beneath the general homelander tags a few days ago but walk with me for a minute.

a non-supe au in which john was adopted into an esteemed, affluent household (e.g., the vogelbaums) and, because of his publicized adoption, had the public eye on him from a young age. as conduct issues started manifesting in his childhood, while his family tried to manage things privately, a very public incident involving john occurred (e.g., him being violent with another child) and they quickly distanced him as far as they could from the spotlight. the remainder of his developmental years were spent privately with minimal public appearances while he attended school and therapy. these years were stable, but mainly, isolated. in young adulthood, he re-entered the spotlight and tried to find his footing within the social circles he was majorly excluded from, including nepo babies and other college students that were somewhat famous. as an adult, he established himself as a socialite and is trying to shift his reputation from a rich bachelor who fell into a variety of different odd, but noteworthy, jobs, to a serious author. 

one of these odd jobs involved receiving a call from a “friend” (e.g., kevin (the deep)) to join the production of an upcoming sci-fi show. while john had no interest in sci-fi whatsoever or any connection to the original material, he tried to work his way out of boredom by pushing forward bold adaptations and diversions from the source material as a producer. while some of these adaptations landed and resulted in good interview moments that improved his reputation in the industry, this project ultimately fell into the back of john’s mind as something that went fine years ago, but he would never do again because it wasn’t in line with the work he wants to be known for - he can do better than that…

while his work at bryman audio-visual keeps the lights on, hughie’s an aspiring commentary youtuber. a childhood fan of the sci-fi franchise john had worked on, his initial review of the series was extremely critical of the many diversions from his beloved canon, which john was ultimately responsible for. years after his initial upload, hughie revisited the show and uploaded a retrospective analysis where he rescinded his many scalding comments about john vogelbaum’s adaptations and bashfully acknolwedged, like many others in the community, that he was too nostalgically defensive of the era of the franchise he remembered from childhood to appreciate the show for what it was.

while john wasn’t attached enough to this project to keep tabs on feedback from the fans, he did care about his most recent book release, which was grittier and more macabre than anything he’d previously published (think american psycho if patrick bateman was his homelander. i’m so serious. i wish i wasn’t, but i am.) despite advice from his manager to sanitize this work of it’s darker elements, john was insistent on publishing it as it was written - to extremely mixed critical reviews.

it’s a dead, rainy shift at bryman. hughie recognized john’s face on one of the articles and skimmed through it behind the counter. while the mentions of gore threw him off, the story, itself, seemed interesting; and if he learned anything from revisiting the show, despite any personal skepticism, john showed he had good creative direction. he stops by a store after work to pick up a copy for a pretty penny. it can be one of his weekly uploads, and if he doesn’t like it, he can sell it second-hand to get some money back.

john started to monitor the public reception to his novel. ordinarily, he wouldn’t care about what the average reader has to say, but every review, every comment, about his work, means something. rotating between websites and filtering by the most recent additions, he comes across hughie’s review. he initially watched it on two-times speed to get the big idea of what he had to say, but hughie’s thoughtful, insightful, and accurate with his review. he gets it. john slows the video down and goes back to the beginning. instead of slandering his protagonist, hughie emphasizes with him - with a slap on the wrist for some of his worse moments, sure, but john could accept that. he finishes the video, and he watches it again; but this time, the words fade into the background. he watches hughie. he finishes the video again and pauses before it can transition into his outro. john stares at the screen. he waits. deciding, he moves his cursor to the top corner and makes an account with one of his old, otherwise forgotten email addresses. he searches up hughie’s review again to like the video and leave a somewhat cryptic, but kind, comment. he idly scrolls through the brief comment section and notices that hughie must make a conscious effort to respond to anyone who gives his content the time of day. john wonders what he will say to him.

Avatar Rant: Two Avatar takes that bother me

(Pssst! This was originally posted on reddit, but I liked it so much I decided to post it onto my this account! Here's a link to the original if you'd rather read it there!)

So, I saw a semi-viral tweet a while back that bothered me because it not only felt like a complete misunderstanding of the point of Avatar as a film franchise, but also just a very childish view of how societies and different communities function. I can't find it though (I didn't interact with it and it has since been buried) so I apologize for not being able to give the best context.

It was your typical RDA sympathizing humanity first take (makes sense, the account that tweeted it was a walking red flag) that claimed that the na'vi were stupid for not accepting human advancement and technology, that humanity should always put its preservation first, and that the RDA were simply prioritizing the well being of their people whilst the na'vi wanted them gone. I want to start by addressing the latter take(s).

The first and second movies make it very clear that the RDA are NOT prioritizing the survival of Earth or humanity. They are a money hungry organization that want to monetize pandoran resources to their dying people in hopes to squeeze out whatever little money they have left. The people of Earth are said to be protesting them for that very reason, every solution to their planet's problems that they have discovered is insanely expensive and inaccessible to anyone below the upper class one percent. The RDA don't care about humanity, they care about profit, which is the exact reason why their actions are so callous in the films.

There are certainly humans that want to preserve humanity, but I truly cannot wrap my head around how you can watch either film and come to the conclusion that it is the RDA that wants the best for humanity. Avatar is not a "human bad" movie, it is a "corporate greed bad" movie, which is reflective of real life environmental issues. The individual is green, the individual recycles and doesn't litter, the individual cleans their local rivers and sea shores. However, the powerplants continue to polute our air, the corporations continue to flood our oceans with plastic, the rich continue to cut corners and burn the air with private jets.

I truly believe the reading of Avatar as an anti-humanity movie is what has lead to people thinking the RDA are the "good guys". It is because they actually believe the RDA are supposed to represent humanity and their will to keep surviving (and that James Cameron is portraying them as wrong for that), when it is clear they are a representation of the corporate greed that leads to environmental damage and the destruction of humanity.

As for the belief that the na'vi are hostile and somehow wrong for not caring to "advance" in the way humanity did, that is just flat out wrong. When it came to the respectful, peaceful humans such as Grace and her team, the na'vi were incredibly welcoming. I mean, Grace built an entire school for them and taught them human language and other human academics, so clearly they aren't against learning from humans. Again, Avatar is clear about the fact that humans as a collective aren't bad, corporate greed is.

However, why should the na'vi "advance" when there is no need to? Innovation is built on the back of necessity, and in a world where there is no need for certain technological advancements, why should the na'vi chase it? Why do they need phones and tablets and video games and McDonalds? They are living just fine without it. This idea that every society needs to be "modernized", even when they function just fine without said modernization has always driven me up a wall.

This entitlement from the western world is what leads colonial brained weirdos to try and go to indigenous islands and force religion or their world view upon them, because they believe that if a society doesn't function like the "modern" world, it is wrong. The na'vi don't need currency, or modern tech, or modern trends or fast food. They aren't perfect, but they also aren't in a desperate situation that would call for innovation or some sort of technological evolution. They are fine, they don't need nor even want it, and it is strange to believe humanity is in their right to force it upon them.

I think Cybersix is one of those shows that’s prime for a reboot.

This isn’t about “milking the franchise” —it’s Cybersix, there’s literally 12 people who remembers this show—but about getting rid of the bleh stuff like the racist caricatures, while boosting the fantastic ideas the show does have.

Cybersix is a show about a woman who hunts monsters to feed by night, and a man named Adrian who teaches high school English by day—they are one and the same person. She struggles with being an android, wondering if she is human after all. His nemesis is Dr. Von Reichter who creates monsters in order to take over the world—and Cybersix tries to reconcile the fact that she is “one of those monsters” who had escaped her creator as a child. And his fellow colleague Lucas bisexually flusters over both Adrian and Cybersix, oblivious that they are one person.

It’s a series that can be super relevant today. Update some characters and their designs, rework the story to focus more on its touching themes, and we’ve got a story about a genderqueer person who is fighting her fascist creator. All the while she loves, and subconsciously wants to be loved, but feels deeply unworthy of it because she is “one of those monsters.” It could be a story of identity, of self-love, of nature vs nurture, about how “monsters” are not exclusively evil, and how humanity isn’t exclusively good.

As far as I know, you can watch Cybersix on Retrocrush or TMS Entertainment’s YouTube channel. If I recall correctly, Ep 4, Yashimoto Private Eye, is the one with racist caricatures….blehg. I do like Yashimoto and Ikiko’s characters, but they are in dire need of updating.

GRGRGRGRG FINALLY AN OPPORTUNITY TO INFODUMP ABT HIM!!! tysm @makifishcake and prepare for a long ramble abt best boy ever (to me) and why saijun is real... let's start with an introduction to a canon crossover character only The Loser (me) cares about! this is gonna get messy in writing near the end cuz its like 3 am for me rn.

Kouno Jun is one of the two protagonists of Asou-sensei's older work, Our Hero Studies and is one of Haganeno Ken's students at Holy Lance Academy (a private school that either exists the same town as Saiki or some neighboring one)

The only translated OHS chapters so far show us who Jun and Haganeno are as characters. Kouno Jun's a generic tsukkomi high school student with normal teenage boy interests and crushes... he's baby and a total boyfail.

Jun likes video games (Kaisou Monogatari, an in-universe franchise), ramen, melon soda and Yayumi - the class rep. Pretty normal dude that's just being constantly bothered by his classmates and the teacher he hates...

...and then there's Haganeno Ken - THE delusional cosplayer hero wannabe teacher with huge interest in roleplaying and RPG video games, who immediately takes a liking to Jun, mainly for his name (his name means shield, while Haganeno's mean sword. you see where i'm going?)

most of the ohs panels will be machine translated cuz i have no strength or motivation to continue my actual translation work ngnhnh one day maybe... 😔

He may look like a generic high school shonen manga protagonist, but it's actually really charming to me how adorable he can be despite the boring presentation lolol HIS CRUSH ON YAYUMI IS SO CUTE UGHNHNH

Asou-sensei put him there twice. In the Christmas chapter where he's walking with a girl (MOST LIKELY YAYUMI), sees Kusuo sitting alone and being like "haha that's so sad to be lonely on christmas lmao"... EXCEPT ITS HILARIOUS CUZ HE DOES THE SAME THING IN HIS OWN MANGA'S CHRISTMAS CHAPTER.

and in the Hero Studies crossover chapter, right at the end as an unused character. (wouldn't make sense to have two tsukkomis there tbh so i get it lolol)

Same thing happens in the anime except Jun in the Christmas episode wasn't animated like he's an actual pre-existing character, except just a background character so he looks different but has the same jacket with his initials so its definitely him.

okay but what's with the saijun thing? orz

basically its a silly ship me and my lovely sweetest gf (@lu-kario ) came up with and it kinda stuck around. "omg haha what if the two protagonists from different manga dated" but yeah it became an actual thing with thought out scenarios between us.

Me saying it'd be like satousai but Kusuo finds someone "normal" with actual personality would be not giving this ship enough justice. I can't tell much rn cuz I forget 90% of the stuff i make up unless i write it down BUT all i'll say is that

I like to imagine Jun and Kusuo having a calm and nice relationship, lots of quality time spent playing video games or going out to get some ramen together. Kusuo gets to have someone more usual by his side and Jun isn't likely to be bothered by Ken when Kusuo is around (:3).

and yeah, they do get another scene together in volume zero! how lovely! the christmas episode is also one of the reasons i find the ship cool but even despite the sillies having canon scenes and illustrations together i like it simply for fun.

my final words: go read ohs its fully in japanese online and 5 chapters are in english so far.

seriously go read it the fandom doesn't exist its really lonely.
