Greek Princesses (and Romanov descendants), Olga, Elizabeth and Marina and their father Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark.  They were the daughters of Prince Nicholas of Greece and Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna. Their paternal grandparents were King George I of Greece and Queen Olga Konstantinovna. Their maternal grandparents were Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich and Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna the Elder.  During their various periods of exile from Greece, “Greek Nicky” was able to earn money for the family by selling his artwork. Elizabeth and Marina inherited their father’s artistic talent; Marina would sign her work as Marina de Grece or “MG,” and then after her marriage as “MK” for Marina of Kent.

Happy 89th birthday to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent!
Born 9 October 1935, Edward George Nicholas Paul Patrick is the elder son of Prince George, Duke of Kent, and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, a grandson of George V, a nephew of Edward VIII and George VI, a and first cousin of Elizabeth II. Edward's mother was also a first cousin of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, consort of Elizabeth II, making him both a second cousin and first cousin once removed to Charles III. He is 41st in the line of succession to the British throne.
Prince Edward began his education at Ludgrove, a preparatory school in Berkshire, before going on to Eton College and then Le Rosey in Switzerland. After school he entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He graduated from Sandhurst in 1955, as a second lieutenant in the Royal Scots Greys, the beginning of a military career which lasted over 20 years.
On 25 August 1942, Prince Edward's father, the Duke of Kent, was killed when his plane crashed in bad weather in Caithness. Prince Edward, at six years old, succeeded his father as Duke of Kent, Earl of St Andrews and Baron Downpatrick. He has held the title of Duke of Kent for over 82 years, making him the longest-serving duke in British history.
At York Minster on 8 June 1961 the Duke of Kent married Katharine Worsley, and couple have three children: George, Earl of St Andrews (62), Lady Helen Taylor, (60), and Lord Nicholas Windsor (54).
The Duke of Kent performed engagements on behalf of his cousin, the Queen, for over 50 years. He also acted as Counsellor of State during periods of the Queen's absence abroad. Upon the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Kent became the oldest living descendent of King George V, and the last surviving descendent born in George V's lifetime.

Royal Tiara Challenge 2024

Day 14 - Favorite Emerald Tiara
Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara, Emerald setting
Made for Grand Duchess Vladimir of Russia, this tiara was sold by her daughter, Grand Duchess Elena Vladimiranova of Greece (Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent's mother) to Queen Mary in 1921. Inherited by Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, the tiara has been worn with its original pearl drops, without drop stones, and with the pendant emeralds.
Three years after Queen Mary purchased the tiara, she commissioned Garrard to work on the piece. Mary’s collection included the Cambridge emeralds, a cache of gems that had belonged to her mother’s family. She had incorporated many of the stones into the Delhi Durbar Parure, and in 1924, she had the Vladimir Tiara adapted so that it could be worn in a third setting, with a series of fifteen cabochon drops from the Cambridge emerald collection. From then on, the emerald version of the tiara was often worn with pieces from the Delhi Durbar suite.

“I am curious about Princess Elizabeth of Greece and Denmark, because unlike her sisters Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark( later Duchess of Kent) and Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark( later Princess of yugoslavia). I am wondering how her short life kinda went, how she became the Countess of toerring-jettenbach, her difficulties in exile, and her family relations with russia, denmark etc. She is interesting” - Submitted by Anonymous

Princess Marina Duchess of Kent by u/Why_Teach
Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent I have been reading an interesting book, The Royal Family at War by Theo Aronson (which is “free” with Kindle unlimited) and learning a bit about how the younger siblings of George VI and their spouses served the UK during WWII.When comparing these royals to Harry and Meghan, one is struck by how they all did what they had to do, often under very difficult conditions. Princess Marina of Greece is an outstanding example. She was widowed when Prince George, Duke of Kent, the younger brother of George VI died; A young mother, was left with three kids and no income. On the Duke’s death, his annual income of £25,000 from the Civil List ceased. By an unfortunate oversight, no provision had been made, in the Civil List drawn up at the start of George VI’s reign, for the widows of younger sons.It was not considered wise to approach Parliament for a substantial widow’s portion for a royal when all over the country there were widows in worst straights. Though she had some help from King George and Queen Mary, Marina ended up having to sell furniture, art work, and memorabilia that she and her husband had valued. She not only did not complain, she went on with her royal duties without any royal stipend.…[N]ot least of the contributions of this publicly active member of the royal family is that for the last three years of the war, and beyond, she carried out her official duties without any income whatsoever from the state.Marina missed her family and, though she had a good relationship with her in-laws, she was lonely. Nevertheless she understood it as her duty to serve the UK because she had married into the BRF. If only Meghan had wanted to emulate this kind of princess!(Edited to fix punctuation and a few words.) post link: https://ift.tt/PnFmIQd author: Why_Teach submitted: May 19, 2025 at 10:31PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog.
