ate at the OG primantis for the first time recently and I don't know why I WASN'T expecting a tiny hole-in-the-wall where they serve you on wax paper instead of plates and the menus are on the walls, but that was exactly what I got, and I have to confess that the entire primantis experience was radically improved by it. like yes, these sandwiches ARE meant to be eaten in this exact environment
#my chief issue w/ the chain is that their vegetarian offerings are meager and not very taste heavy#I think they obviously do better w/ meat sandwiches#nonetheless: best primanti's I've ever had

Primanti Bros., Pittsburgh, 5/3/23
exterior – 46 18th Street, Pittsburgh, PA, 15222 Primanti Bros. started in 1933 during the Great Depression. Joe Primanti had a sandwich cart that was successful enough to turn into a storefront feeding shift workers and truck drivers. Their signature is potato fries on the sandwich. The story is that someone came to the restaurant during the winter with a load of potatoes. He was concerned…

Sen. J.D. Vance was incredibly gracious after he was barred from entering a popular sandwich shop Saturday near Pittsburgh. Staffers at Primanti Bros. in North Versailles told Vance that he would not be allowed to enter the restaurant, according to NBC senior political desk editor Doug Adams.
As many as 50 Trump/Vance supporters were inside the restaurant. All of them reportedly canceled their orders and moved the campaign meet & greet to the restaurant's parking lot. "We paid for everybody's food," Vance told the crowd. "We gave him a nice tip. And of course, when I gave him a nice tip, I said, 'No taxes on tips.'" Don't hold it against her. She just got a little nervous. But it's a great local business. Let's keep on supporting it."
Last month Vice President Kamala Harris held a campaign event in a Primanti Bros. in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. So, why the double standard? Primanti Bros. is partnered with Garnett Station Partners. Their portfolio also includes Fat Tuesday, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill and Checkers. Primanti Bros. has every right to deny service to conservatives, and conservative have every right to deny service to Primanti Bros.

Everything about the Harris campaign is fake.
Prior to her stop at Primanti’s (the PA sandwich chain), every single customer was kicked out and replaced with actors.

Barros Jarpa
Barros Jarpa, it's a toasted ham sandwich made with soft cheese. Guys??? I was reading the main article and apparently it's just named after the guy. Ernesto Barros Jarpa was the chilean minister who just really liked this sandwich. That makes me really happy.
The best things a sandwich can be named after is 1) a place (Primanti, Hamburg, etc) or a person (Barros Jarpa, Elvis). I think it really keeps in the spirit of "sandwich" (a place and a person).
Anyways this was a tasty one, I love a toasted ham and cheese and I think the specific style of cheese is great because it melts really nicely.

hold up, you're from around pittsburgh too??? epic
few questions:
1. why's our transit system suck ass
2. what's your opinion on primantis (imo it's mid)
3. what's your favorite place in the city
4. which bridge do you think will collapse next
i'm from around pittsburgh as in "in the absolute boonies but pittsburgh is the nearest city that anyone from outside the area would know" and
1: just how america is, in general :/ car centric sprawl is Evil
2: agree that it's mid but also i don't like sandwiches much in general and i dislike coleslaw so their "sandwich with coleslaw and fries inside of it" gimmick doesn't appeal to me. i've gotten wings there when i went there w other people and they were like okay but nothing to write home about
3: i don't find myself In the city very often so i don't have a solid favourite but i guess the riverside is very pretty especially driving past it at night with the skyscrapers in the distance. or like, my sister's apartment on the sheer basis that my sister is a pretty cool person
4: fort pitt. no clue about its structural integrity but that thing scares the dickens outta me every time i gotta drive on it cuz there's like 5 lanes of traffic and that just ain't right.
#eliot posts#well i no longer live in the absolute boonies anymore but am still a while drive away from pittsburgh proper#like a distance you COULD commute too if you were desperate but it'd be annoying to

She needs an Isaly's chipped ham sandwich (or a Primanti's) and a Turner's ice tea to complete the image.
A little late to the party but after seeing so many Mikus in other cultures decided to do one from my own and well I’m from Pittsburgh and let me tell you our culture is road rage
