characters - Gepard, Aventurine mentioned
notes - gn!reader, jealousy (while not mentioned directly, it's still implied they both are jealous lmao), no beta. Dedicating this to my Gepard, stop stalking me bbg, I still love you.
Self aware!Gepard who gets more and more nervous with Aventurine's banner approaching.
Self aware!Gepard who is a military man, who knows how important it is to have the right strategy and the right party, who knows it's better for you to replace him with Aven, but who's still heartbroken over it.
Self aware!Gepard, who was already doing his best to sustain you, now tries even harder, goes beyond his limits, all just to prove his worth.
Self aware!Gepard who knows you want to pull for Aventurine still, not even for the meta but because you like him.
Self aware!Gepard, who was always cheering for you during your pulls, now praying for you to lose 50/50 or to not have enough jades.
Self aware!Gepard who has never sabotaged your pulls but now he comes to you instead of Aventurine, makin it the first time you lose 50/50 to him. He feels so guilty and selfish for making you upset but he just can't lose you. He'll try harder, he'll restore his energy faster, he'll protect you! Just please don't replace him!
Self aware!Gepard who's so upset when you still get Aventurine eventually. He tries not to show it but his sad puppy eyes say it all.
Self aware!Gepard who feels lost when you replace him with Aventurine in some of your teams.
Self aware!Gepard who tries to be courteous with Aven but damn, they don't get along since Aventurine's boss fight, when Aven was constantly targeting him and Gepard was unable to hit the number higher than 3. Not to mention Aven had Gepard's sisters in his banner. Like. The audacity!
Self aware!Gepard who is either completely heartbroken when you give his relics to Aven or is somewhat hopeful if you don't. Maybe you still have a soft spot for him in your heart, that would be enough for him.
Self aware!Gepard who gets very surprised when you put him on the same team as Aven during your preservation path run in the SU.
Self aware!Gepard who tries his best to outperform Aven and gets very self conscious when he sees that Aventurine hardly even loses any hp at all, his shields are better and it stings to admit it.
Self aware!Gepard who sighs heavily when everyone else drops dead and him and Aven are the only paty members left.
Self aware!Gepard who is still like a puppy, getting very excited when you pick him in MoC or Pure Fiction.
Self aware!boss!Gepard who always targets Aven no matter what. Even if it's an AoE attack, somehow it still does more damage to Aven specifically.

So you've already let out some interesting trickles of your opinion here and there, but what do you think of Ozpin as a character?
w– well—
i will try to be brief
first: feel like i gotta preface by emphasizing that my reading of the gods is that they are, unequivocally, evil monsters who pose a dire existential threat to humanity and i fully expect them to return to the story as villains; obv this influences how i read both salem and oz. i categorically disagree with any interpretation of the story that requires taking what the gods say at face value.
with that out of the way:
im OBSESSED with the tension, the unreconcilable conflict between what he wants and the task he never wanted but feels no choice in fulfilling; like, fundamentally ozma is The Chosen One except 1. he never wanted to be and only said yes so he could be with salem, 2. the task he was ostensibly chosen to do is literally impossible, and 3. the actual reason the god of light picked HIM is almost certainly to punish salem, to hurt her in retaliation for her defiance.
and—god help me i'm gonna try to cliff notes my lost fable thesis—i think where a lot of analysis and fan meta on the subject of oz / salem / the brothers falls down is making one of two assumptions, either that the god of light is benevolent or that the gods have hypocritically violated their own rules. (sometimes both)
the first assumption outright cannot be true, because this:
SALEM: Why spend our lives trying to redeem these humans, when we can replace them with what they could never be?
is treated as salem's moral event horizon, and the [apparent*] implication that she considers modern humans inferior on the basis of their not having magic is so horrific that ozma leaves immediately and dedicates the next few thousand years of his existence to finding a way to destroy her—and in the same episode, only a few minutes before this occurs, we hear the god of light say this:
LIGHT: Mankind is no more, yet your world remains, and in time, your kind will grow to walk its face once again. However, without our presence, they will be but a fraction of what they once were.
and this:
LIGHT: If your kind has learned to live in harmony with one another and set aside their differences, then we shall once again live among you, and humanity will be made whole again; but if your kind is unchanged, if you demand our blessings while still fighting amongst yourselves, then man will be found irredeemable and your world will be wiped from existence.
there is zero ambiguity here. the god of light thinks humans are inferior—broken!—without the gods, and if they cannot overcome their basic natures to wash themselves clean of the perceived crimes of their extinct predecessors he'll, at best, stand aside to observe while his brother slaughters them all. again.
[*i have my own thoughts about how jinn constructs this scene and what salem did or did not actually mean, and about what's going on in the lost fable generally, but that's a tangent long enough to break tumblr if i follow it rn.]
anyway,
the second assumption similarly fails because in order for the gods to violate the rules they set for humankind they must first consider themselves subject to those rules, and they blatantly do not. the divine rules concerning the balance of life and death are self-evidently not there to preserve an intrinsic cosmic order, they're one of the variables the gods agreed upon during their first experiment with humankind. that experiment has ended. now they've devised a new one, using different variables. it is clear from the way both of them behave towards humanity and each other that as far as they're concerned they are beholden only to the terms of their mutual agreement—not to the divine law they impose on their creations.
which is to say, they're not hypocrites. they're just tyrants.
and that brings me to the crux of the issue, which is this: the gods do not care whether humankind is united or not. they didn't eradicate humanity for fighting among themselves; they slaughtered every single person on the planet because humanity rebelled. the important piece of the ultimatum, the criteria that will truly matter if the day of judgment comes, is this: "if your kind is unchanged, if you demand our blessings, [...] then man will be found irredeemable."
the ultimatum is obey us, or die.
everything else is a smokescreen.
i think salem understands this. i think in his heart of hearts ozma knows it too, but it scares him so much and he's buried it so, so deep that by the time he became ozpin it was almost gone, but like—ultimately i think this the root cause of a lot of his choices, as ozpin and as every reincarnation stretching all the way back to the catastrophic fall of the ozlem kingdom. the secrets. the lies. the conspiracy. the enshrining of the status quo above all and utter terror of using any of the power at his disposal. even pouring all of his focus into destroying salem even though he knows for a fact that is impossible instead of, literally anything else. like... we see it, in lost fable. ozma does not have the stomach to be a tyrant, and the tyrannical gods coerced him into becoming their enforcer.
and all he's ever wanted is to just be with the woman he loves, but the woman he loves is the architect of rebellion against the gods he's doomed to serve and that unreconcilable conflict of interest destroyed them both and it's tearing the world apart at the seams.
im fucking distraught
and also,
like
ozpin fully blames himself for what the gods have done to him, and this whole thing he does with setting trusted (but not too trusted) allies up to be, like, lone champions—the headmasters of his schools, the maidens, ruby and her silver eyes and her smaller more honest soul—i think the core of this pattern is the self-blame. & like, i think he NEEDS to blame himself for failing to achieve his task, because if he can cling to this belief that he is the problem, that the gods simply made a mistake when they chose him to be their champion, that he isn't good enough but someone else could succeed where he has and is failing—then he doesn't have to emotionally reckon with, you know. all of this. he can spend lifetime after lifetime searching for the right chosen one, and when he finds them and passes the burden on to them they'll be able to carry it without shattering.
it
hurts me
#salem deserves to kill the gods but ozma DESERVES to kill the gods u feel me?#anyway i just want him to be ok :(

Okay...so it’s time to tackle Episode 10x18 and why it didn’t bother me that much.
Despite getting to watch TWD Season 10B early thanks to a forgotten AMC Premiere account, I waited an entire 24 hours before I watched 10x18 out of fear of the inevitable.
And by now I’m sure you know exactly what I’m referring too.
However, after I did finally break down and watch it Friday evening, I was surprised that it didn’t bother me nearly as much as I thought it would.
Some might say that’s just because of the tinfoil hat now firmly placed tightly around my head after the previous episode convinced me even more Beth Greene might just show up out of the blue one day soon to a TWD universe production near you. Okay, I’ll give you that!
However, there are very logical reasons why I don’t feel the least bit threatened by this new woodland harlot, Leah, (I’m just joking, geesh) and I’m going to tell you what they are!
Before I begin, I want to make clear that while I’m not thrilled about the idea of Daryl being in a romantic relationship with anyone but Beth, I didn’t really even hate Leah but saw her instead as what I believe she was meant to be. On her own in another situation she probably would be a great character. However, when I have mentioned in the past that I liked this episode, I was mainly referring to the parts with Car*l. Not because I am petty and enjoyed the fight, but because I think these are conversations that Daryl and her need to be having.
Nevertheless, here’s my take of 10X18. Consider yourself spoiler warned if you haven’t seen it yet.
Daryl was probably at the loneliest part of his life when Leah enters the picture.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2614077c7f8e2dc789f4bcb60a646868/1f04c76f7e930f36-80/s400x600/5ed6de8f69d0d327b1e6885c6fe3c9986f257390.jpg)
Let’s take the time and set this scene a moment...
At the point in the story when Leah first appears, Daryl has been wandering the woods for three freaking years looking for any sign of Rick’s body.
While Daryl is away, everything he knows has changed and life has just continued to carry on without him for everyone else he loves. Rick and Carl are both long gone. Carol is busy being a wife and mother. Michonne has pretty much shut off Alexandria from everybody including Team family. Maggie left for parts unknown with Georgie and has taken little Hershel with her.
Literally every single thing that Rick and Team Family ever tried to build during this apocalypse is shattered and everything the man has ever loved is gone.
We also can’t forget that the person Daryl would have naturally clung to during this sad time happened to “die” before he ever stepped foot into Virgina. Therefore, Daryl is left with absolutely no one. It’s a damn miracle that he didn’t off himself and might have - had he not been so obsessed in finding Rick’s body.
Leah is Daryl’s exact mirror in female form.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bc997cea33c83b46a44493500d554e46/1f04c76f7e930f36-2f/s400x600/2734833746bdda374ccc841391db920ba14c8ef8.jpg)
So he meets Leah after accidentally breaking into her cabin and almost immediately we can see she is literally like him looking into a mirror. Now, I’ve already read many people trying to compare her to Car*l and even Beth and while I do get what they are saying, I also disagree. This lady is no other than the female version of Daryl Dixon. He has surely found his exact match in her.
Here’s how we figure that out:
Leah is tough as nails but obviously has a heart because she doesn’t immediately kill Daryl for busting into her cabin and ultimately lets him go.
You come to find out she had abusive parents and a very shitty childhood just like Daryl.
You find out her life sucked until she found her group - who had given her not only hope but finally a real family.
Like Daryl, her life also greatly improved during the apocalypse.
It takes Leah a very long time to trust Daryl enough to even tell him her name.
You find out she had a son who was born very much like Judith was. Her “sister” died giving birth to him, causing her to raise him as her own.
Something horrible happens to the group (horde of walkers) and everyone else gets killed. She takes her son and runs to the cabin only to realize that he had been bitten and ultimately dies.
It highly implied Leah blames herself for what happened to her family.
Like Daryl, at this point in the story Leah has lost everything she has ever loved, has sought refuge in the woods, and is completely alone.
Yet, in no way, shape, or form was Leah ever supposed to be a replacement for Beth. Instead, I believe she actually demonstrates why Bethyl worked so well.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/09d42a18ea20cd3a6bbe24047f78b1e5/1f04c76f7e930f36-3a/s400x600/20a0561ecbb04741cf91dc8ac32554568f99ce0c.jpg)
While I’m okay with the character of Leah, she’s no Beth. Not even close. As I stated before, she is just like Daryl and that’s really the problem.
Because we need to understand the thing that made Bethyl work so well was their fundamentally different personalities fitting together like peanut butter and jelly - both perfectly fine on their own but together making the perfect combination.
And TPTB spent a lot of time and effort back in the day showing us how much this was so.
While sometimes opposite people clash, we were shown that their different natures surprisingly completed each other very well. In other words, they were each other’s yin and yang. This was most obvious with Daryl helping Beth realize her own strength and Beth showing Daryl how to move forward. However, I could create an entire meta...and there are many that already exist out there...listing countless examples of how we saw them bringing the best out in each other. The combination of this along with their utmost (even sometimes brutal) honesty, shared history, and absolute trust in each other, created a foundation for a very healthy relationship.
In contrast, two people with nearly identical personalities and the same exact kind of unhealed trauma like Leah and Daryl, are usually not good life partners because they can hinder and get in the way of each other’s forward progress.
While you can understand why these kinds of people gravitate together and form bonds over shared experience, resulting romantic relationships can often be rocky. Many times the shared trauma can result in both partners having the exact same kinds of problems with trust, communication, and reckless expression of feelings. There is nobody in the relationship to model different kinds of behaviors and ideas since both tend to have the same life experiences to draw upon. Instead, each serves to the other as a living testament to and as confirmation of why their negative thoughts and behaviors are correct.
In other words, there is nobody there to throw the life preserver when both people are drowning. Nobody to even suggest to either partner a different way of doing things.
Also, when the relationship’s foundation is based solely on shared trauma, the trauma itself can become the only thing holding the two partners together.
This is why I never thought Daryl and Car*l would ever make good romantic partners. However, at least they have different types of personalities and kinds of trauma. Car*l is just...well Car*l - a force all on her own - and there’s nothing to suggest she ever experienced abuse in childhood. However, Leah being an exact carbon copy of Daryl gave that relationship even less of a chance.
And what I have just described seems to be exactly what we really do see happen between Daryl and Leah in Episode 10x18. I could list various examples but for time’s sake, I’m choosing not to because I am sure you can see it too - at least now that I’ve brought it up.
Just know I also believe this is why NR seemed to imply the relationship was not good in earlier preview shows.
Daryl flat out told Leah he didn’t know if he could choose her.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e87f805e3a7b98fcd6b55e2347e802d9/1f04c76f7e930f36-9b/s400x600/8beb4f4c150be900511ba49904b839d33af72544.jpg)
As many others have already pointed out throughout the weekend, I believe the biggest difference between Daryl’s reaction to Leah and his reaction to Beth is the simple fact he really didn’t seem to want to stay in that cabin with Leah forever. He doesn’t even seem all that upset about it either until he starts talking with Car*l later.
This drastically contrasts with the “Oh” scene with Beth. Hell, Daryl didn’t even care if the looney person who had been tending the funeral home and dressing up corpses came back! He wanted nothing more than to stay there and live happily ever after with her. There was no hesitation.
I would go as far as to say Beth is the only person able to completely divert Daryl's attention away from the rest of his family - much like she did when he spotted the Grady car and began his pursuit. However, Beth would never even ask such a thing - because not only is it her family too - but also because Beth was much too unselfish to let Daryl make those kinds of choices.
So you might ask yourself why he changed his mind in the end and made him decide to go back to Leah?
I believe he makes this choice because of the conversation with Car*l. She basically tells him that everyone else has found their place and it is time for him to find his place too. It begins to slowly eat at Daryl how they have all moved on without him. It’s important to remember that by this time in the story, he’s pretty much done scouring the river for Rick. He’s already checked out that “one last place” he hadn’t been. So now he’s beginning to ponder Car*l’s words and wondering where his place is now? Where does he go from here? It’s logical to think maybe he’s supposed to be in those woods with Leah after all.
Daryl and Leah’s relationship doesn't seem to leave much of a lasting impression or effect on Daryl.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/46fd06416ec67975e5520e48b29d1b0d/1f04c76f7e930f36-27/s400x600/b2f602fb1ce3a5d107b7678092d038569d25d7ad.jpg)
Don’t get me wrong, I believe Daryl most definitely cared about Leah. Yet, we can’t forget how we first found Daryl all those years later after the time jump in Episode 9X6.
If you remember right, Daryl still wasn’t doing all that great. His relationship with Leah apparently does absolutely nothing to change his outlook on anything.
In comparison, we all know what just a few short weeks - perhaps a couple of months - in the woods with Beth Greene does to Daryl Dixon. It changes his character profoundly!
Daryl might have went back to Leah at the time...BUT he made it crystal clear to C*rol that he knows where he belongs NOW. That’s what the entire fight between them was really about.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e50e5fe892a2dce876961484c1ef7af2/1f04c76f7e930f36-2c/s250x250_c1/afd65f79c74d2a69643ea5de3744c36fb6dc5bd3.jpg)
There is a line that Daryl spits out during his fight with Car*l that sums up exactly why he wasn’t able to give up everything and stay with Leah. He tells Car*l that he knows where his place is…and he’s referring to being with his family at Alexandria. He’s angry that she doesn’t seem to understand that it’s where her place is as well.
AK later points this line out on TTD as important too. In fact, she literally states that his relationship with Leah is purely in the past and they will not go there again. It is rare for a showrunner to flat out proclaim something like this. It means she felt it was important for the audience to understand that this was done. She also points out that the fight is really about how sick Daryl is of Carol running away every time things get extremely difficult.
I would go a step further and say that Daryl is probably projecting what he now realizes was going on with himself when he was wandering the woods and choosing to stay there with Leah all those years ago. He’s upset with himself for having done so and he’s upset with Car*l that she has yet to have come to the same conclusion.
Ps: Be on the lookout for another post - a part two of sorts - later this week detailing all the things I’m still tinkering in my mind about this episode! ;)
Until then, keep calm and Bethyl on! She’s coming soon...

Preserve Meta-Characters during Replacement & Enhanced LINQ Reporting Engine inside Java Apps
What's New in this Release?
Aspose development team is happy to announce the monthly release of Aspose.Words for Java 18.1.0. There are 63 improvements and fixes in this regular monthly release. The most notable includes improved character spacing control logic, improved space shrinking for Verdana font, improved “allow handing punctuation” handling when kerning is enabled, Fixed clip issue with semi-broken tables, Fixed draw order of wrapped shapes in 2013 mode, Fixed repeated header height problem during field update, Fixed the bug causing error in page numbers in multi-page documents rendered into PostScript, Proper calculation of undocumented margins in DrawingML Charts implemented, Horizontal axis of Bubble Chart scaling fixed, Vertical axis of 3DArea Chart scaling fixed, MS Word 2016 approach for rendering of DrawingML Charts axis labels implemented; (Labels are rotated to fit the chart), Fixed rendering of Legend markers for 3D-LineChart, Improved rendering of composite (with multiple series) charts and Chart title with ManualLayout rendering fixed. This release has enhanced the support of data band inside a single-column table row for LINQ Reporting Engine. In previous versions of Aspose.Words, when opening and closing foreach tags are inside same cell, the output contents would be in the same cell. Starting from Aspose.Words 18.1, users can export the single-column data band in separate new row using greedy switch. This has enhanced the support of conditional blocks in table’s row for LINQ Reporting Engine. If users put an opening if, elseif, or else tag and a closing if tag in the same cell, the engine treats a template option formed by these tags as a common one rather than a table-row one by default. However, users can override this behavior making the engine to treat such a template option as a table-row one by specifying a greedy switch. It has added FindReplaceOptions.PreserveMetaCharacters property in Aspose.Words 18.1 to preserve meta-characters beginning with “&” during replacement. In this release, Aspose team has removed following obsolete public method from CompositeNode class. The parameter “isLive” is not used anymore. Please use CompositeNode.GetChildNodes(NodeType nodeType, bool isDeep) instead. It has added new feature in the release of Aspose.Words to show or hide the chart axis. You can use ChartAxis.Hidden property to achieve this. XmlMapping.StoreItemId property has been added in this release to specify the custom XML data identifier for the custom XML data part. Please read DataBinding class for more detail about storeItemID property. The list of new and improved features added in this release are given below
Add feature to show/hide axis of chart
API to get geometric position of element in Word Doc
Add feature to get w:storeItemID of StructuredDocumentTag

Charlie and Charlie: one character arc, two genres
AU as genre difference
Original Charlie is the (disillusioned) heroine of a quest/adventure story. AU Charlie is the (disillusioned) heroine of a romance novel.
“I was raised on Tolkien, man. … Where are my White Walkers and my volcano and magic ring to throw in the damn thing? Where -- where's my quest?” - 9x04
“Sam, before all this, I was just a programmer at Richard Roman Enterprises. I lived with the love of my life…. She owned a bakery outside of Chicago. Cupcakes. It was like something out of a storybook.” - 14x06
First of all, I am so, so happy that Steve Yockey seems to be picking up where Robbie Thompson left off. Almost all of Robbie Thompson’s Charlie episodes explored stories and storytelling to some degree, from one-off lines like 7x20’s “The really evil [villains] always need a special sword” to the fully-fledged Wizard of Oz fanfic of 9x04 and 10x11, and everything in between. Yockey taking up the “meta madness” storytelling theme in his first Charlie episode is a delight.
But the direction he takes it in is especially cool. It closely links the two Charlies and helps the audience (or at least me :p) understand how AU!Charlie relates to Original Charlie’s narrative. It also takes pains to differentiate the two characters, so we don’t feel like the show is pushing AU!Charlie as a replacement for the original Charlie we loved. AND it plays around with the AU worlds in an interesting way: alternate universes as different genres of stories!
So, our original Charlie’s story is all about exploring what it is to be a hero in an adventure story. First she runs from the idea, then she embraces it, and then she’s slapped with all the horrible downsides, and she has to grapple with what it all means for her. AU!Charlie’s story, meanwhile, seems to be focusing on what it is to be a romance heroine: at first she isn’t looking for love, then she finds it and embraces it, and then she loses it in the most horrific way, and now she has to figure out how to approach human connection. The same (or close enough) story beats filtered through two different genres.
When we first meet our Charlie in 7x20, she’s willing to do what she can to stop everyone around her from getting eaten (“What kind of douchebag stands by for that?”) but she wants nothing to do with the final boss battle or with monsters and hunting: “Never contact me again, like, ever,” she orders Sam and Dean. “Good luck saving the world.” When she comes back in 8x11, as soon as she realizes that monsters are involved, she plans to blow up her life and disappear again: “What I care about is not getting my other arm broken, or dying. So I'm dropping my sword and walking off the stage, bitches.” She’s purely in self-preservation mode until she realizes that she can’t just stand by and let people get killed “on [her] watch.” That’s when she starts to embrace the identity of “hero.” Dean reminds her that she’s already a hero for helping defeat Dick Roman, and then...
Gilda: I can't break free from the spell, myself. A hero must take my master's book of magic and destroy it, breaking the spell.
Charlie: Gilda, my name is Charlie Bradbury, and I am here to rescue you.
After that, she’s all about seeking out adventures. She starts hunting and she yearns for a quest like the ones in the fantasy books she grew up reading. She leaps at the chance to hunt with Dorothy and journey to Oz (“Wicked Witch, a key, a quest? Let's do this”). But she turns herself into a killer during that quest, and she sustains a lot of psychological damage in the process, as represented by the spell that rips her into two halves of herself. Her dark side can only sneer about adventures, and her light side sums up, “It was awesome. Until not so much.” Once her whole self is back together again, she admits, “I think we have all the adventure we can handle right here.... I just got to keep moving forward (10x11).”
She’s experienced both the wonderful and the awful sides of being a hero, and she has to think about what that means for her life as a hunter.
Charlie: You know, I haven’t been a hunter for very long, but it feels like this is the life. Mostly ends in Sophie’s choices, death, or tears. Usually, all of the above, huh? How did this become my life? I mean, I was gonna own my own start-up, marry ScarJo, invent something cool. Now I’m just… I’m just happy to be alive (10x18).
This is where we see the biggest overlap between the Charlies.
AU!Charlie: I hate hunting.
Sam: Really? ‘Cause I gotta say, you’re kinda awesome at it.
Charlie: Yeah, well, when it’s that or die by angel kill squad… [trails off suggestively]
Sam: Right.
Charlie: I mean, no offense, but who wants to be a hunter? This job—just a lot of tears and death.
Sam: Huh. Funny, you said something like that to me once long ago, about hunting—not you. Sorry. Our Charlie.
Charlie: Well, she was right (14x06).
And how did this Charlie get to that point? Well, in a pretty similar way, really. “I wasn’t looking for love,” she says, just like the original Charlie wasn’t originally looking for adventure. But then she met Kara and it changed everything. “She always smelled like peaches, and her smile was just....” They lived together blissfully in a life “like something out of a storybook” until the Apocalypse hit and it was all ripped away from her: “When the food ran out, people got mean. Mobs started forming, stealing whatever they could get their hands on. A lot of people died. Kara died.”
She experienced the best and the worst of love and of interpersonal relationships. Her faith in society -- in people relating to people -- is deeply shaken: “People are always the same when things go wrong. They lose it. ... It’s a fact about society. It all falls apart.” And now she just wants to get “Away! From monsters, from—people. I’ll go live on a mountaintop or something.” She wants to run away from what she sees as the problem -- other people -- so she doesn’t have to deal with any of it anymore.
But Sam insists, “People need people.... If we help people then maybe they’ll help people, and all that—and that’s worth it. Even with all the tears, and death. It’s worth it,” and Charlie concedes, “I’ll think about staying.” She’s still going to have to grapple with relationships. I’m really looking forward to seeing how she handles it :)
It’s a really interesting way of approaching the character -- of both characters -- and honestly, even speaking as somebody who was massively wary of AU!Charlie because I was worried about original Charlie being replaced or forgotten, I love it. And I like her. The genre difference is a clear dividing line between the two characters (along with the dialogue, obviously: “She ain’t me!” etc.) even as the similar story beats link them together.
The genre-bending also, imo, shows something interesting about the ways Supernatural itself has shifted genres over the years. In season eight, when Charlie’s ties to the heroic quest narrative were first established, the show was taking a lot of cues from action/adventure stories like Indiana Jones (Robert Singer said at the time that season eight was ‘our "Raiders of the Lost Ark" year’ [link]). All those tablets and Trials. Now, the show’s narrative seems to be leaning in a more relationship-centric direction. It isn’t a romance story -- Dreamhunter and Mary/Bobby subplots aside -- but it shares with romance stories an emphasis on interpersonal relationships as a primary source of drama. Feelings, too. For example, Cas’ deal with the Empty appears to hinge 100% upon his emotional state. TFW’s relationship with Jack is a big plot-mover in various ways. And so on.
It’ll be fun to see how it all develops, for Charlie and for everyone else, too.

Kreia and Atton and the Will to Power
I wrote this post years ago on a mostly unused blog so I thought I’d re-share it here, given the number of good recent meta posts I’ve seen within the Knights of the Old Republic (2) fandom - I’d like to throw my hat into the ring and get in on the discussion too. :D
Kreia and Atton have one of the most interesting relationships in the game because through their interaction, certain core qualities of their characters and an important similarity between them - their uncompromising will to survive - is revealed. I’d like to discuss this cutscene, in which Atton tells Kreia, “You and me - we’re done,” with regard to her blackmailing him into the Exile’s service on Telos (I think the particular version of the scene I’m discussing only occurs if the Exile is Light-sided).
She responds with mocking incredulity that she never “truly held” him, which made him more of a fool than she thought, and goes on to say that it was he who truly held himself because she “once held the galaxy by the throat, as you once held her by the throat and let her die slowly. And your emotion at that point is what you fear.” This is an interesting comparison and perhaps it alludes to Kreia’s feelings about her own brush with the Dark Side and how, like the Light Side, she does not want to be beholden to it or the strong feelings it imparts. She wants to be able to stand back and assess the situation, manipulate it to her liking, and be beholden to none - the Dark or the Light - but herself, despite the fact that she ”wielded power like you cannot imagine,” through which all “was awash with possibilities, spreading outwards, touching everything else.” At this pinnacle of her power, she saw “all that the Force is,” but “only when it was ripped” from her did she “truly see it.”
I’m not sure if my interpretation is what the developers intended, but this experience of hers is something that she seems to be comparing, whether consciously or unconsciously, with Atton’s experience with the unnamed female Jedi. Kreia wielded the great and terrible power of the Dark Side and was unknowingly beholden to it, realizing the extent of her enslavement only when that power was taken from her. After that, she hated the Force and wished to destroy it (or at least that’s my understanding given the few spoilers I’ve encountered by accident, as I am only partway through Dantooine and did Nar Shaddaa first). Atton, on the other hand, was deeply indoctrinated by Sith assassin training which, combined with his righteous fury towards the Jedi, who had deserted the Republic in its hour of greatest need (aside from Revan and Malak and their followers), led him to his fall - but not so far that he could not be saved. Like Kreia, he had a moment of clarity after being deeply affected by the Force - in Kreia’s case, that had involved being severed from it, and in his case, it had involved feeling it for the first time and ultimately deciding to open himself to it to protect the Exile. Kreia’s experience led her to loathe the Force, but Atton’s led him to desire an understanding of it, though not right away - his anger and indoctrination led him to lash out against the compassion of the Light Side that he’d likely held in contempt for some time based on his exposure to Sith teachings and his own hatred for the hypocrisy of the Jedi - like he says to the Exile, he was “afraid” of the Force then and didn’t want to be “changed into something else” (even though the Dark Side was already changing him into something else - he just didn’t have the perspective to see it - and likely considered the Force to be something beyond his ken and better left alone given his hatred for Jedi).
This is why he still killed the unnamed Jedi, even as she opened his eyes to his own Force-sensitive potential and to his future as a mindless tool of the Dark Side, were he not to defect from Revan’s ranks. In his emotional turmoil, he fled to a place where he could hide and remain a non-entity - Nar Shadaa - and indulge the repressed emotional impulses that the unnamed Jedi had reawakened in him. Prior to this encounter he’d been a cold, unfeeling husk for some time now, taking joy only in the deaths of the Jedi he hunted, but most of all in filling them with despair by forcing them to see things from his bleak, depraved perspective before finishing them off - to him, that was the “best part.” The walls of “lust, impatience,” and “cowardice” he’d thrown up in order to confuse Jedi with the chaos and intensity of his “surface thoughts” were not initially true emotions that affected his mental state - they were merely “strong emotions and feelings” he faked to throw his prey off his scent and make them think he was harmless (or, I would argue, a “fool” as Kreia considers him to be - though during the second “listening lesson” with the Exile, she admits that he might be “cleverer than he feigns to be” because of his ability to shield his thoughts).
But Atton ultimately became the mask he wore - the feelings he’d faked to cloak his presence had become a part of him or perhaps, as he says, “Maybe it was always me. It’s hard to tell sometimes. I haven’t known who I am for years.” It would make sense for someone with Atton’s particular combination of virulent hatred and survival instinct to give in to their baser impulses as part of a larger philosophy of uninhibited self-gratification - seeking to satisfy their each and every whim, whether it be murdering Jedi, profligacy at the Pazaak table, or hitting on every good-looking female individual in the vicinity. The emotional walls Atton put up were likely urges repressed by his Sith training, compartmentalized and instrumentalized for assassination purposes. Clearly, Atton has problems controlling his impulses, and although he’d used them as emotional walls merely to confuse his prey during his time as a Sith Assassin, when the unnamed Jedi showed him the Force, all those lusts and cravings melted away to be replaced by “the kind of love where you’re willing to give up everything for someone you don’t even know.”
The compassion the Jedi had shown him was something he didn’t think he could ever deserve, and as much as he hated himself for his actions, his self-pity and instinct for self-preservation would not allow him to take that lesson of compassion to heart. As a result of his encounter with the Force all the feelings he’d previously used as mental walls “kept tumbling out” and he “couldn’t stop feeling things” and he could no longer use them as tools, “orchestrated to get close” to his quarry. That touch of the Force had forced him to confront his true self, a self that desired compassion and love, but had rendered itself undeserving of both and now drowned in “lust, impatience, cowardice.” So despite his disbelief (or desire to disbelieve, as he tells the Exile might have been the case) in the Jedi’s assertion that if he remained a Sith Assassin, Revan would turn him permanently to the Dark Side in the Unknown Regions, he became a scoundrel, loving and fighting fiercely for only himself…until the Exile came along.
Atton thought that “maybe [the unnamed Jedi] had saved me so I could help [the Exile],” and decided to ask the Exile to teach him how to use the Force - “I want to learn how to use the Force to protect you.” It’s interesting how Atton approaches the Force - he’s still wary of it, still constantly reminds the player of the disturbingly invasive powers it confers on sides both Light and Dark (i.e. the injudicious use of Force Persuade), but he’s finally willing to open himself to its inherent compassion because of the connection he feels with the Exile. I think this comes through in his dialogues with her about how the “glow” he sees surrounding her is “inspiring.” She embodies all that the unnamed Jedi had shown him - all that he had recoiled from in righteous anger and fear because it had shown him just how far he had fallen.
The Exile was for Atton, as she was for many of her companions, a mirror in which they saw their true selves reflected back at them. She helped them accept the truth of what they saw as she had done after Malachor and helped them realize what they wanted to see, and how, through compassion, they would behold all they imagined. The Exile was not a mindless devotee of the Republic or an arrogant, inflexible adherent to the Jedi Code - she was a responsible and pragmatic leader who owned the decisions she made and learned from them, an empathetic confidant, a fearless crusader for the downtrodden, and a true and loyal friend. Through her boundless capacity for empathy, she was able to convince them that they were deserving and capable of becoming their best selves.
This is what Atton was so afraid of losing. After he’s told the Exile about his dark past and she has accepted it and his will to atone, he thinks Kreia will no longer be able to hold him in her thrall. But, as Kreia tells him, ”I know what lies buried within you. That you hide with your desperate thoughts, your guilt, your lusts. I can unlock that part of you anytime you wish. It is a simple thing, the human mind, once it feels something strongly, it becomes etched in the memory, the subconscious. Shall I show you? The part of you that hungered to kill Jedi, that took pleasure from it? Or perhaps you will continue to listen to my counsel and I shall ignore your pathetic attempts at freedom.” She is threatening to take away the sense of self the Exile has helped him build - a sense of self that Atton very likely still considers a fragile work in progress. What if it could not withstand exposure to the specific emotion that he felt when he held the unnamed Jedi by the throat just as Kreia had once held the galaxy, an emotion Kreia claimed to be able to summon at will and use to control him? But as Kreia said, she’d never truly held him, it was he who had held himself. Could Kreia really have subdued Atton and made him a slave to her will in this way? I am uncertain. At this point, I believe that Atton’s love for the Exile was a stronger force than either Atton or Kreia realized, and Kreia has been known to bluff. But this was one wager that Atton Rand - notorious gambler - was unwilling to make. The stakes were simply too high and he would not allow himself to lose that sense of self the Exile had helped him build nor his connection to her. And so he remained under Kreia’s control. What did that entail, exactly? I don’t really think the game makes this clear, as I believe Atton had decided at this point that he was with the Exile for the long run, for good or for ill, having decided to open himself to the Force - a power he still didn’t entirely trust - just for her. So there was no need for Kreia to blackmail him into staying. Perhaps Kreia simply wanted him to believe that he would have to do as she asked if the time ever came when she called upon him if he wanted to preserve that sense of self and his connection with the Exile - her well-being and her belief in this best version of himself are what Atton values more than his own life, as is made clear by how many of his Influence opportunities involve trust.
It is interesting, in light of all I have discussed, to reflect once again on the juxtaposition of images Kreia used when comparing Atton to herself - she "once held the galaxy by the throat, as you once held her by the throat and let her die slowly. And your emotion at that point is what you fear.“ Kreia is, I think, revealing something about herself here. As I said before, like Atton, she does not want to be beholden to the thrall of of the Force, and in the moment she held the galaxy by the throat, she was beholden to the Dark Side, just as Atton was when he killed the unnamed Jedi. She, too, fears her "emotion at that point.” The touch of the Force that the unnamed Jedi left in Atton led him to ultimately embrace the Light Side, liberating him from the “lust, impatience, cowardice,” and rage to which he had been shackled for so many years. And the absence of the Force led Kreia to believe that she - and the galaxy as a whole - were better off rejecting both sides of the Force. For each of these characters, a critical encounter with the Force, or lack thereof, threatened to break their sense of self - but because of their dogged will to live, it ultimately led them to remake themselves, for good or for ill. Kreia sees Atton’s brief flirtation with power as crude - he was nothing but a “murderer” giving in to his impulses, while her purpose was to shape the galaxy through the power she amassed. But she has a certain begruding respect for Atton’s unflinching self-preservation, a quality she prizes in herself - he is nothing if not remarkably self-sufficient - “a fool the Force looks out for.” Kreia recognizes in Atton what she knows to be a part of herself, and as is her wont, manipulates him accordingly. There is little the self-reliant fear more than being deprived of their strength of will - the will to be the man deserving of the Exile’s compassion, and maybe someday, her love.

The Drake-Fisher Residence, New Awlins Edition
There are lot of cool photos and meta regarding the house that Nate and Elena live in at the end of the game, but what about unnecessary information about their residence in New Orleans? We don’t know much about the way that Nate and Elena interact with the environment in which they live, in the sense that we’re not getting flashbacks to walking down Bourbon Street and immediately regretting walking down Bourbon Street, no one should ever walk down Bourbon Street or anything, but we do have context both in the environment of Nate’s workplace at Jameson Marine down by the Mississippi River warehouses, and in the buildings surrounding the Drake-Fisher residence in New Orleans proper. I return from my last architectural analysis of the orphanage/Boston setting to talk to you about bridges, preservation ordinance, and THE SHOTGUN HOUSE. (This is about to get really image-heavy.) I’ll preface all this by saying that nowhere in New Orleans is there a truss bridge that looks like something between a Parker truss, a Pratt truss, and a Camelback truss, but fine, Naughty Dog, I’ll accept your bridge discrepancies. (I have outlined the truss shape in little red lines so it’s easier to discern. For you bridge-lovers. I KNOW YOU’RE OUT THERE.)
The layout of Nate and Elena’s house is pretty simple: a rectangle, with smaller rectangles inside of it. It’s small but comfortable, with an insulated attic space originally intended for storage and relatively tall ceilings. The latter is a hallmark of many Southern houses built before the advent of air conditioning, because heat rises and you can’t sit around sweating all damn day. Seriously. These ceilings are tall.
For convenience I’ve provided a basic plan layout I mocked up in AutoCAD, aka Satan’s Architecture Program, of the first, second, and attic floors, respectively. For those unfamiliar with reading floor plans, thinner lines at the border walls represent window openings, of which there are very few. This is not uncommon for shotgun houses, which I will talk about...now. The shotgun house is awesome. It’s a piece of Southern vernacular architecture that has become synonymous with Creole culture the closer you get to the Equator while wandering away from the Mason-Dixon line, and was the most popular style of housing from the end of the American Civil War through the 1920s. Traditionally, the shotgun house is a narrow residence that is basically one long, skinny rectangle, with rooms arranged one after the other in a line. The only hallway, which provides access to each room, starts at the front door and runs all the way out the back door. Here are a couple great examples!
There are some academic arguments about the origins of the name: I always heard it was called a “shotgun” because you could feasibly shoot through one door and out the other without hitting anything because there are no doors between the other rooms. Other scholars have suggested that “shotgun” is actually an Anglicized interpretation of “to-gun,” a Dahomey Fon term meaning “place of assembly,” thereby tying its roots to the housing of Afro-Haitian peoples. Blacks have historically outnumbered whites in New Orleans and it is entirely possible that they brought their housing arrangement traditions with them. Shotgun houses can also come in two-story versions, or “camelback” versions, the latter of which basically adds a second story to the rear of the house, thus giving it a “hump.”
Anyway. ONTO THE ACTUAL GAME SCREENCAPS. Let’s start at the top, and work our way down!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6a5ef642e3378ab9d515b3a85f64c7a7/tumblr_inline_oudlhaEgV71qdht66_540.jpg)
The A-Frame gable (that triangle shape) of the attic space is pretty typical of two-story shotguns, as well as the window set into the gable, an element which can be seen in every shotgun gable photograph prior to this section. The window in their house is an oculus, or “eye” window, pretty popular during the Victorian period of building. The window is partly decoration, because a flat facade is incredibly boring visually, and partly for ventilation, though less so with air conditioning. Based on the insulation tacked between the ceiling joists and around the oculus (but the lack of visible ventilation duct work), this space is at least mildly cooler than the outside, which honestly isn’t saying much if you’ve ever been to New Orleans in the summer. I don’t know how Nate is wearing long sleeves up here and not sweating bullets. Down on the official second floor, we get a good look at the fenestration arrangements (window shapes, sizes) and also the outside! Which gives us really great environmental context.
Behold! A classic New Orleans gallery house, complete with side-door, flanking lanterns, narrow columns and chimney, and those tall-ass windows. But how do you access the second-floor porch? The tall-ass window is your door! It’s also used to circulate air by pushing the lower sash up to the middle, and the upper sash down to the middle, letting the hot air out and the cool air in. You’ll notice that the difference between the two-story shotgun and the gallery house is that even if the two-story shotgun has a second floor porch - which they often do not - columns do not run from floor to ceiling on the second level. Outside the Drake-Fisher master bedroom window, you can pick up elements of New Orleans vernacular styles on the other buildings in the neighborhood.
The windows in their house on the second floor on the front and rear of the house are probably not original to the building, probably replaced before or during the rehab process, because they are of a style not indicative of the area: a wide central pane of glass flanked by two smaller, movable sashes. This style looks a lot like the windows of the Chicago style school of architecture, popularized in the early 1900s (below).
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/955db32d9f92f1e21d7c50ea8bd39a2d/tumblr_inline_oudso82ETw1qdht66_540.jpg)
Based on the views available from every conceivable angle in both the master bedroom at the rear of the house, and Elena’s office at the front of the house, they live at the corner of two streets in a historic neighborhood.
Now to the first floor door! A great Central Door Look (TM) is the kind that incorporates sidelights (those little stacked windows flanking either side of the door) with a strong Classical lintel over the door itself. Crown molding on the ceiling. Hardwood floors. Nice. Doors in most shotguns typically do not have sidelights (as they take up space) unless the door itself is centered.
Also literally no one but me cares about this but they have an antique door knob fixture and that’s cute! Older knobs were much smaller with slim, narrow plates.
Based on the central placement of their door and its door surround/sidelights, as well as the placement of the stair on one side of the house, it’s a pretty safe assumption to make that they live in a shotgun. BUT ALEX, you cry, WHERE’S THAT ONE LONG HALLWAY AND THOSE SUBSEQUENT ROOMS? I’m super glad you asked, because it’s also not at all uncommon for shotgun houses to have their interiors gutted and rehabilitated to better suit modern needs! This is especially prevalent in New Orleans, where the majority of their historic preservation ordinances apply to the exterior of a building, rather than the interior!
This ordinance is most heavily used in the French Quarter, where you can subdivide and alter the interior of historic building to your hearts content, provided you maintain the exterior’s character-defining features (trim, paint color, cast-iron balconies, et cetera), but is also often applied to the houses in New Orleans’ other historic neighborhoods. I hope this was edifying and/or interesting for anyone who is not historic preservation-inclined, but as a preservation specialist I was really delighted to see the amount of detail put into a space so small!!!
#Uncharted#Uncharted 4#Nathan Drake#Elena Fisher#Uncharted meta#uh also some architectural analysis I guess???#idk guys I'm just a preservation specialist with too much time on her hands#:')#meta shit#historic preservation

Reproduction in the GFFA
This post was inspired by a comment thread on @jedimordsith's The Gift Chapter Eighteen. I hope to spur a discussion or provide some meta and head-canons to help other creators in the fandom. Because I can't remember anyone discussing baby making before. Canon for this post are the original trilogy, prequels trilogy, and sequel trilogy. Clone Wars and Rebels television series are part of the canon, but I haven't watched either shows, so someone else will have to provide examples from them. EU Legends and Disney EU supplement the canon and will be cited so others can use those tidbits or set them aside according to their personal preferences. Everybody ready?
I'm writing this before the Last Jedi opens, so we are working with seven saga films and one anthology film. Out of those eight, only one character is shown pregnant and giving birth, Padmé Amidala. The only other character to talk about giving birth is Shmi Skywalker when talking about Anakin to Qui Gon Jinn. So the experiences of these two characters gives us natural reproduction according to their species. For the purposes of this discussion, natural reproduction means without the assistance of technology; sexual reproduction for humans and possibly many more alien species in the GFFA and potentially asexual reproduction as well though I don't have any examples in my memory. The Hutts were hermaphrodites in EU Legends, but according to Wookieepedia Disney EU has decided to divide that population along male and female now.
Even with the pregnancy examples, we the viewers aren't taken along on any medical check-ups to see what kind of assisted reproductive technology the GFFA has. In fact the fandom has wondered if it was lack of prenatal care that actually killed Padmé if her keeping her pregnancy secret extended to never seeing a medical droid or practitioner. But we shouldn't overlook the fourth parent shown in the prequels and how he got his child: Jango Fett and his clone son Boba.
As part of his compensation for being the genetic template for the clone army the Kaminoans created, Jango requested a clone who did not have the same genetic modifications such as behavioral conditioning and growth acceleration. We meet Boba as a ten-year-old child in Attack of the Clones, and presumably Jango has been raising Boba since he left the cloning tank as viable infant. My respect for Jango has gone up a notch; it's not easy to be a single parent no matter what galaxy you're in. And with this information, cloning tanks have to be added to a list of assisted reproductive technology the GFFA has.
But just because the technology exists doesn't mean it is available for the masses. Figures weren't quoted in the Attack of the Clones, but the Grand Army of the Republic was not cheap and the Kaminoans took ten years to grow and develop their clones for this purpose. Cost prohibitions can be inferred further by how the Imperial military moved into enlistment and conscription models to maintain stormtrooper numbers. I think we can safely say that the normal population of the GFFA couldn't afford to clone a baby even if the Empire did not restrict access to the technology. EU Legends developed a separate technology for cloning with the Spaarti cloning cylinders (invented by Timothy Zahn before George Lucas figured out what the Clone Wars were all about) that worked faster--a fully grown and trained clone in a year rather than ten--and could work even faster if the Force didn't interfere with the speed by making the clones mentally unstable. This technology was locked down by the Empire, and was thought destroyed since the Clone Wars by the rest of the population.
While we don't know how Jango Fett donated his genetics to the Kaminoans, all the adult clones were a physical copy of him on screen. But a plot point in EU Legends had a clone of Luke grown from his preserved severed hand. So how ever cloning works in the GFFA, it's not limited to gametes (sperm and ovum or whatever alien equivalents are).
So what about real assisted reproductive technologies? Are they present in the GFFA? We have no canon evidence of ultrasounds, artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, or gestational surrogate pregnancy but it's hard to think that if we have all these things, they must have them too. After all they can replace limbs with fully-articulated prosthetic parts that can be permanently attached to the body.
Research time! While I didn't go much deeper than Wikipedia and Google searches (go deeper for sources if you're writing for a grade), I was surprised to learn that most of these things that are now ubiquitous with pregnancy are developments younger than I and A New Hope. Artificial insemination in humans turned out to be the oldest, first successfully done in 1884. Sperm banks started in Iowa in the 1920s, making donated sperm available for couples with fertility problems as well as women without male partners.
Medical ultrasounds developments started in 1940s in several countries. Professor Ian Donald, Tom Brown, and Dr. John MacVicar published their findings as "Investigation of Abdominal Masses by Pulsed Ultrasound" on June 7, 1958. Afterwards, they continued to refine their techniques to obstertic applications to measure the growth of the fetus at the Glasglow Royal Maternity Hospital and in the new Queen Mother's Hospital in Yorkhill. But it was only in the 1970s that the technology became widely used in American hospitals and further refinement has led to our ease of determining the sex of fetues. (https://www.livescience.com/32071-history-of-fetal-ultrasound.html). Before ultrasounds, detecting multiple fetal heartbeats was the only way to determine if there was more than one child but it is a more inaccurate process.
The first successful birth of a child from in vitro fertilization was in 1978. A woman carried the first successful gestational surrogate pregnancy in 1985. Surrogacy is a method or agreement whereby a woman agrees to carry a pregnancy for another person or persons, who will become the newborn child's parent(s) after birth. The next step is artificial wombs, which moved forward in 2017 with animal trials. It's aimed for helping a premature fetus develop normally rather than taking over the whole process. That is still in the realm of fiction.
Lois McMaster Bujold created uterine replicators for her Hugo-award-winning Vorkosigan Saga series. Star Wars fans you will like these books: space opera, exotic worlds and cultures, political intrigues, family dramas, strong women characters, and the main protagonist is disabled and keeps fighting to show his worth to his culture. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorkosigan_Saga) Genetic manipulation is commonplace, though of varying degrees of acceptance depending on the culture. The uterine replicators are essential to this process because it allows complete in vitro human reproduction. The embryo and fetus can be genetically modified as benign as just removing a genetic disease so it is finally eradicated to controlling the sex and appearance of the fetus, which led to the creation of the Quaddies. The freedom and safety this technology provides is also a plot point in the series since Miles' disabilities are the result of poisoning his mother went through while pregnant. His cousin Ivan--while born naturally perfectly healthy--was nearly murdered in the womb when his parents were caught by a rebelling faction during a civil war. The other nifty factor is they can use any cell from the parents to create the embryo, though gametes are the easiest to work with, and donated oocyte if there is no ovum from the mother. (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_(sheep) for how that works.)
I came to the Vorkosigan Saga after Star Wars, so my light bulb was phrased "uterine replicators are just like Star Wars cloning tanks!" The technology is virtually identical, the only difference being parents' blended DNA instead of creating a copy of the donor. I'm head-canoning that this exists in the Star Wars universe as assisted reproductive technology, probably with a different name to keep it separate from cloning and probably priced out of financial reach for most of the population in GFFA. I haven't coined a Star Wars-ish name for it, so suggest away please.
Besides allowing for reproduction for infertile, same-sex, or extremely-unable-to-accommodate-pregnancy couples, this technology allows for hybrid babies between two species that are unable to reproduce naturally. I can't think of any examples of this in pro-fic (Wedge had a non-human girlfriend for a bit but she got shunted off-stage pretty quickly), but this is a situation that we fanfic-writers love to exploit and fill-in-the-gaps. It's an option along with the ones we covered that we can use right now in real life.
Thank you for sticking with me to the end of this long look at reproduction in the GFFA and our own galaxy. I've gained a new point of view considering this topic and the films. Lucas not putting in what turned out to be cutting edge technology in the original trilogy of his space opera, I can give him a pass on. It wasn't necessary for the story he was telling Padmé skipping prenatal check-ups to keep her pregnancy a secret from the Jedi Order can explain the lack of knowledge that she's carrying twins but only to a certain point. How come all the Force users around Padmé missed it? The only good explanation I've got is the twins kept hiding each other in the Force from all the other Force users, and Obi-Wan and Yoda were too polite to scan her. Did Stover come up with a reason in the novelization? I still need to read it. Share your thoughts please. :D

@Ringer: @Kyle_MacLachlan's multifaceted #TwinPeaks performance is astonishing to watch
Kyle MacLachlan Is Currently the Best Actor on TV
His multifaceted ‘Twin Peaks’ performance is astonishing to watch
BY ALISON HERMAN AUG 10, 2017
When Special Agent Dale Cooper introduced himself to the world nearly 30 years ago, he was an immediately comforting presence. Unflappable in his positivity, the FBI envoy to the eponymous town of Twin Peaks was the perfect entry point to the original show’s Lynchian eccentricities: Cooper, as played by Kyle MacLachlan accepted and even embraced Twin Peaks’ many quirks at face value. Cooper doesn’t show up until 40 minutes into the feature-length pilot, well after we’ve been thoroughly discomfited by the sight of Laura Palmer wrapped in plastic; when he does arrive, narrating everything he sees to an unseen woman named Diane, it’s as a steadying force — the eye in the middle of an interdimensional, backward-talking hurricane. If this platonically square lawman could transition smoothly into a world of demonic possessions and clairvoyant Log Ladies, so could we.
Fourteen episodes into Showtime’s Twin Peaks: The Return, Dale Cooper has yet to arrive at all. That absence is key to the disorienting atmosphere of the long-anticipated follow-up. (Lynch directed all 18 parts of The Return and cowrote the script with his creative partner, Mark Frost.) Gone, for the foreseeable future and much to viewers’ consternation, is our dependable lodestar through bizarre behavior and existential evil. In his place are a handful of enthusiastic participants in Twin Peaks’ mournful, terrifying new landscape. All of them are played by MacLachlan, and collectively, they make up the best performance currently on TV.
Notoriously, the first Twin Peaks ended on a brutal cliff-hanger: In an attempt to rescue his girlfriend Annie Blackburn (Heather Graham), Cooper plunged into the Black Lodge, the otherworldly locus of evil from which emanated the dark forces plaguing Twin Peaks. He never made it out, and was instead overtaken by a Lodge-minted doppelgänger. In the wrenching final shot of the series, the doppelgänger looks into a shattered mirror and reveals the face of Bob (Frank Silva), the spirit who raped and murdered Laura Palmer while inhabiting the body of her father, Leland (Ray Wise). The plot of Twin Peaks is never easy to convey on paper, but the significance of that reveal was clear enough: Our pure-hearted hero had been overtaken by the very essence of malice and cruelty. And thanks to ABC, which canceled the series just two seasons into its run, he seemed fated to stay that way.
Until now. The Return doesn’t shy away from the implications of that unhappy ending, which imprisons and incapacitates its hero in an unambiguous victory for the forces of darkness. Rather, it’s about those implications, and MacLachlan is essential to communicating the themes of loss, change, and decay, in no small part because he embodies them.
By splitting in two, MacLachlan’s multifaceted performance crystallizes the series’ black-and-white divide between virtue and vice. On one side, MacLachlan plays the doppelgänger, commonly referred to as Evil Cooper. Since we last saw him (in 1991), Evil Coop has grown accustomed to life outside the Lodge. He has recruited henchmen, grown out his hair, and taken to wearing a leather jacket—affectations that would be admittedly silly if MacLachlan didn't play them with such dead-eyed seriousness. With his artificially darkened eyes, robotic voice, and imperturbable menace, Evil Cooper is chilling; it is easy to understand why Diane, revealed in The Return to be a platinum-bobbed Laura Dern, breaks down in sobs after seeing him in prison. In Evil Cooper’s unsettling confidence, MacLachlan gives us the horrible mirror image of regular Cooper’s smooth professionalism.
While the real Cooper is stranded, Evil Cooper has thrived, and worse yet, the world has allowed him to thrive. It’s a sickening state of affairs even before you consider that all the murder and violence is being perpetrated by a man who one who once bonded with Sheriff Harry Truman over their love of donuts and damn fine coffee. For many Twin Peaks cast members, the visual effects of age underscore the melancholy of a place where so much time has passed and yet so little has changed or improved. For the remarkably preserved MacLachlan, however, the reverse is true: His similarity to his younger self only enhances the differences in his characters, who appear almost unnaturally arrested in time rather than swept away by its inexorable flow.
On the other side of The Return’s Manichean split is Dougie Jones, the character who’s directly replaced regular Cooper and therefore absorbed much of the audience frustration at his continued absence. Dougie is even harder to explain than a typical Twin Peaks plot development, but here goes: At some point during his 25 years on earth, Evil Cooper created yet another clone of himself, who went on to become a Las Vegas insurance salesman named Dougie Jones, with a wife, Janey-E (Naomi Watts); and a son, Sonny Jim (Pierce Gagnon). When the original Cooper is finally released from the Lodge, he's supposed to switch places with Evil Cooper, but ends up swapping with Dougie instead (who gets beamed back to the Lodge through an electrical outlet, because David Lynch). Real Cooper then takes Dougie’s place in Vegas, turning one of The Return’s most significant story lines into a comedy/tragedy about a shell-shocked, brain-damaged lost soul trapped in the exurban, middle-class life of a white-collar professional. It sounds even more convoluted than the first switch-up, and it sort of is — but the genius of Twin Peaks is that it’s all show and no tell, because Lynch’s visual storytelling is so strong it obviates the need for traditional exposition. None of the Dougie-Cooper–Evil Cooper relationship is spelled out for us; we just pick up on Lynch and Frost’s nonverbal cues.
Exactly who Dougie is or how he came to be is thus less important than what he represents, which is what happens to a fundamentally decent person like Dale Cooper when stripped of all but his most essential mental functions and forcibly ejected back into the real world. This setup offers plenty of opportunities for laughs, and MacLachlan has proved himself to be adept at a certain kind of slow-motion slapstick. In one scene, Dougie’s assistant leads him from room to room with the prospect of hot coffee, which he clutches and slurps like a child; in another, Dougie obliviously devours a slice of chocolate cake while Watts aggressively comes onto him. (What follows is an interlude as bonkers as the phrase “David Lynch sex scene” implies.) Even the mere sight of MacLachlan in an oversize green blazer — the original Dougie was on the heavyset side — has a clownlike charm to it.
But Dougie Jones is more than just a vessel for the humor that’s always punctuated Twin Peaks; he’s essentially the purest, most uncut version of the goodness that’s always defined Dale Cooper and that’s managed to survive his time in the Lodge. MacLachlan conveys the pathos of Dougie as well: Dougie is a man who can barely use the bathroom properly and yells at an inappropriate volume, but he’s also a loving father who plays catch with his son and a good Samaritan who uses his winning streak at a casino to help an old woman. It’s sad to witness Cooper in this reduced state, yet moving to see him forge connections with others and make their lives better, almost in spite of himself. The best in him wins out, a hopeful sign in a world where the best largely hasn’t.
Though nothing is guaranteed with a David Lynch production, Dougie appears headed toward a confrontation with Evil Cooper, bringing both halves of MacLachlan’s performance together. Prior to production on The Return, MacLachlan was the only actor who had access to the entire script (others have admitted they had no idea what was going on outside of their own scenes, or even in them), and it’s increasingly clear why. More than any other player, MacLachlan is charged with personifying the project of Twin Peaks: The Return.
With every tic and affectation — every burst of violence from Evil Coop, every slurred pronouncement from Dougie Jones — MacLachlan further delineates the differences between the first Twin Peaks and the follow-up. At first, the tensions in this season simply seemed like a result of Lynch and Frost making the story they wanted to make, regardless of nostalgia. But heading into The Return’s final stretch, frustrated nostalgia almost seems to be the point. It’s even written into the text: The typically catatonic Dougie comes alive whenever he makes contact with iconic motifs from the original show, like coffee or cherry pie. These aren’t meta references for meta’s sake. Instead, they’re part of The Return’s larger meditation on how much or how little people, places, and things can shift over, well, almost 30 years. We see it in the diminished state of Catherine Coulson, who was dying of cancer when she filmed her last scenes as the Log Lady; we see it in Amanda Seyfried’s Becky Burnett (née Briggs) following in her mother Shelly’s footsteps by getting trapped in an abusive relationship. Most of all, though, we see it in everything MacLachlan is doing, and how well he’s doing it.

Did y'all know that I had to stop playing Harvest Moon: Animal Parade because I thought about it too hard and could not physically bring myself to play it anymore?
Settle in. Get a drink. I’m not censoring this, I’m not shortening it. I’m gonna present it to you the way that I would tell it to your face. And it’s a doozy.
May I present, Sev Thinks too Godamn Much; An Essay.
I went after Wizard, because of course I did, got him his weird-ass mushrooms every day on the dot and married his ass. Like right off the bat, FUCK the seasons, FUCK the animals, I’m gonna marry the fucking Wizard, step one, step off Harvest Goddess, I’m gettin me some. Unfortunately for me, and where I’m at as a semi-functioning human being, there’s a bit where he mentions something to the effect of like, first there was the island, and then there was Wizard. Like he’d been there forever right? So cool, he’s immortal. I can roll with that, I think.
I think /wrong/. Because then I come across something online to the effect of “I like to think Wizard puts something in the lunches he makes to allow MC to live longer”. Which. Begins. The fuck train that is my thoughts.
Holy shit, I, the character, am Mortal. He, the Wizard, is not. Holy fuck, he’s going to have to bury me. Not just me, fam, oh NO, his whole family. Me, our kid, grandkids–this dude will now from this moment on spend the rest of fucking /eternity/ watching what remains of the people he loved grow old and die, again and again. And if the line runs out? Fuck, dude, he’ll have no one.
Well gee, Sev. I hear you think to yourself if you’ve managed to read this far. Seems like you should be in bed, sleeping, it’s one in the morning what are you doing up–NO. What you’re really thinking is, yeah I mean but probably not right and even if so, is it that bad? My dude, I am META with this shit. Not ONLY is Wizard going to bury the people he loves, he’s going to do it because /I chose him/.
Thats right. We’re getting into the SHIT of it now. I CHOSE HIM and because I found him aesthetically pleasing, he is now doomed forever.
If I hadn’t chosen him, he would not have found happiness (re: he would remain the same character, which is, as with all bachelors/bachelorettes, inherently lonely so that MC can alleviate said loneliness). He would have watched me date and marry someone else, and BECAUSE the potential for marriage has to be present, there’s a part of him that would Know that it was almost /him/ becoming a part of something greater, something more important than the entirety of this world–the MC.
MC is the end all, MC is the only creature in this world endowed with free will, MC is basically a god upon themselves. MC decides whether your life is happy or sad–whether you are fulfilled or not, whether the crops grow, whether the sky falls, whether they FUCK AROUND FOR A MILLION YEARS INSTEAD OF FIXING THE TOWN. It is not /only/ in MC’s power, but it is the only salvation that a NPC has. To be chosen, to be liked. That is the end goal. The happiness of a bachelor/bachelorette depends on MC choosing them over everyone else. are we done…?
FUCK NO WERE NOT FINISHED YET STRAP THE FUCK IN /LISTEN/. If the end goal is to be chosen by MC, then there /was no choice/. Which brings us back to FUCKING Wizard. Either Wizard spends his life never being as happy as he could be and (whether he’s cognizant or NOT it doesn’t matter) watching the only chance he had galavant around with someone else, OR I choose him. I pick him, me, MC, the only God that matters, the god of free will. And he loves me. Of course he does, that’s what he’s meant to do but you don’t understand. It’s not just that he loves me. It’s that he is not allowed to love ANYONE ELSE. Once he is with me? He’s done. Just me, only me. Forever.
With most NPCs that’s not a problem ok we both gotta die sometime. BUT NOT WIZARD. Wizard will bury MC. He loves MC more than anything. He gives up his character for MC, leaves his house for MC, rethinks his ENTIRE LIFE for MC (which I may remind you is A VERY SUBSTANTIAL AND LONG LIFE).
And he will bury them.
Not just the love of his life, the only meaning to his life that there can be.
Not just the meaning of his life, but their child, whom he would love as well. He’d have to bury them, too. And their children. And their children. A whole lifetime of saying goodbye over and I’ve and over again to the only thing in your life with any kind of meaning. He will never fall in love again. He will never know true happiness again. He /can’t/. Because I chose him. And that marks him irreparably as mine. Forever. Even though I know for a fact that I am mortal.
And when I die, I will take his happiness with me in a /very/ real and /very literal/ way.
And now we come to the reason I had to stop playing.
With all this in mind.
What do I do now?
And that was what fucking killed me.
Do I keep playing? Knowing that when he looks at me, the character is gone, replaced by someone who’s only purpose in life is to love me? To follow me and my routines, to be an accessory for the rest of my life? Until I have died, and our children have died, until his purpose is gone and leaves him with nothing but graves? Do I continue playing knowing for a FACT that his whole life was chosen on a whim by a capricious god–me??
Or do I erase it?
Do I erase it knowing that this is it. This is Happy Wizard, this is his only chance. This is his only real chance at being happy. And beyond this, he will watch me choose someone else. And he will never know happiness. Even if he doesn’t know, even if he doesn’t remember, he will feel a pull like a moth to a flame and he will desire me and miss me and compete for my affection if I let him.
And don’t misunderstand, along the way, I fell for him. Not just in looks but in mind. Quiet, underspoken, but heartfelt in a way that resonates with me. The “dates” felt natural to me. I was actually really excited to see him during them–I mean damn. You know you’re in it when the quiet kid tell you he loves you.
So do I erase my game, taking with it those memories of a happy life, taking with it our child, who’s existence gives Wizard more joy that he’d ever known? Do I take it, And set it all back to zero, to when he is alone? When he will never /not/ be alone? Fuck Witch, fuck rival marriages (is there rival marriages in AP? Listen, it doesn’t MATTER the POINT is that they are HAPPIER with YOU) fuck anything else that could happen to him, if you don’t choose him he will live out his days in misery.
NOTE, IF YOU WILL, THAT ALL OF THIS RUNS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT HE IS /UNAWARE/ OF THESE EVENTS. WHY??? Because imagine for a moment that, true to his mysticism, he DOES know.
He KNOWS that to love MC is to suffer.
He KNOWS that it will mean the sacrifice of everything he is, so that he will be easier to interact with.
He KNOWS that he will never love again.
He REMEMBERS timelines when they were not with him. He REMEMBERS cold nights and lonely days, watching them with their new child and partner and KNOWING how /very close/ he was to having that happiness. And STILL being forced to play it through. Still loving MC. Still ready to trade an eternal lifetime of sorrow for a fleeting moment of the only happiness he could ever know.
Mind you? Way before Undertale. Way before Wreck-It-Ralph. FUCK SMASH UNDERMAN™. "Video Games Have Feelings" ain’t got shit on me. I was /here/. I was /right here/.
I haven’t touched it since. I can’t bear to. I know that I will be faced with two options, two immutable options. And I just….I can’t fucking choose. I can’t do it.
I joke about this whole shit haha, real funny, talked myself out of a video game based on morals and meta. It’s not a joke. I can’t make this decision.
So my Harvest Moon: Animal Parade game is frozen in time. Preserving that moment of happiness for all involved. Where I chose Wizard. Where we are expecting a child together. And just before everything falls apart.

I get a little miffed sometimes at the amount of meta going around that like... character x would be much better suited for a different Lion permanently forever and this is the way to appreciate character x more. It’s honestly pushed me a bit away from the idea of potential Black Paladin Lance.
Because Lance has leadership skills, yes- and that’s part of his role as the Blue paladin. The point of the exercise was not that Shiro is the only one who can direct and coordinate the team.
But the Black Lion isn’t just about leadership, just like Green isn’t just about being smart, just like Yellow isn’t just about kindness.
Allura states the Black Paladin is someone who is followed without question, and someone who is in control at all times. Putting that in my own words: it calls for a powerful force of personality, charisma, and focus. Especially the ability to hold together under exhaustive mental, as well as physical adversaries. Zarkon’s down but not out, and anyone who potentially fills in for Shiro in his absence might have to fight Zarkon for control.
That’s not Lance. I love Lance, I think Lance is a talented, capable, and important member of the team. But that’s not who Lance is and cultivating those traits would actually be counterproductive to who Lance is.
Lance is open, spontaneous, and he’s not the type to force. He fits the mentality of a leg pilot. Yes, he can be persuasive. His skills lie in connecting people and encouraging others to open up and trust new developments- it lets him work very effectively equal-and-opposite with Hunk who tends to encourage more caution and preservation.
Sure. Let’s clear that all off the table. I have some other qualms here.
1. Lance and Blue are freaking made for each other.
Do me a favor. Look at s2e9. Look at Lance’s “This is the best plan EVER!” moment.
Got that in mind? Now look at s1e1, Blue’s first flight, which Lance clearly said was not him driving.
That chaotic first flight was Blue’s happy dance. She’s just found paladins for everybody, everything’s great, she’s bonded again, best day ever.
2. The solution to Lance feeling devalued as a member of the team is not to devalue his contributions and insist that he should be entitled to a different personality bio that he doesn’t fit because it’s more important.
I’m not just running my mouth speculatively here, either. Let’s just look, explicitly, at how Lance started off this situation. He made fighter class, like he wanted! The more prestigious class of pilot! Wouldn’t he feel really good about himself?
No... because he had that opportunity because Keith was kicked out of the Garrison, and a certain part of him can’t not see it as he’s Replacement Keith. (Commander Iverson didn’t help) This was not an incredible boon for his self-esteem.
If Lance fit as black paladin, Black would have chosen him first. Blue is a leg- she’s a supporting role, that’s her profile, she understands that. Blue would not fight Black for a paladin that’s more suited for Black because she wants him more. That’s completely irreconcilable with how Voltron operates, not to mention it paints an image of Blue as heartlessly callous because Black, of the Lions, arguably needs the best potential paladin she can get her hands on- because Shiro, who bonded with her, who fit Black’s profile and could understand her, has been absolutely frigging integral to her recovering from her trauma.
Black accepting Lance now because Shiro’s gone won’t make him feel better.
Because you know the other thing I’ve never seen in all of the meta about how Lance should become the permanent Black Paladin?
An explanation of who’s better suited to Blue, and why Blue is important. Because she is.
Lance is scared he’s a fifth wheel, but, look at the form Voltron takes. Losing Blue isn’t tossing a fifth wheel, it’s literally amputating a leg. There’s a reason during Sendak’s capture of the Castle of Lions, one of the major indications that it was their darkest hour was Lance was taken out of the picture.
Shiro, the head of Voltron, decisively lost a fight because Lance was down.
Let’s also consider that s2e10, Shiro, Pidge, and Lance go to infiltrate an incredibly high security prison. So, okay, that’s three paladins. We have the Black Lion, who has the best stats, we have Green, who has stealth capabilities.
Blue was chosen over both of them in a way that’s a total non-issue.
You can’t say “I can’t believe my poor baby boy thinks he’s a fifth wheel! How could he ever think that!!!” and then follow it with “I’m just going to leave the Blue Lion out of my meta because I don’t think she contributes anything really, what is her thing? She must be somehow not worthy of Lance.”
Because gosh, I wonder how Lance- who was so clearly and obviously Blue’s match, perfectly, from the start- could have a sense of insecurity there when his bonded Lion is considered the boring everyman by the fandom. Completely in spite of everything she contributes and the literal implication that Blue was trusted to bring all of the other Lions’ paladins to them.
3. Shiro would be an awful fit for Blue.
I’m just going to go over this here, because in the idea of everyone shuffling the Lions, Shiro and Blue, as the ones left out, are, I guess presumably the ones that people assume will fit together.
Here’s the thing. Blue’s virtue is pretty much being wide open. This fits Lance to a tee- he’s the one who, with very little context, a giant mechanical space Lion shows up and opens up, and he walks right in and plunks himself in the seat. Lance has a sense of awe and excitement for the universe, for people, for everything. He’s full of love and full of wonder, and he’s also prepared for the hazards that accommodates. His willingness to get lured off alone by Nyma reflects his trust, but we also see he’s very interpersonally sharp (see: identifying the bomb drone wasn’t Rover because it acted wrong, something I will never be over) and even when that trust is actively abused, as with Nyma? Lance is hardly defenseless. He’s quick-thinking, adaptable, and able to improvise his way out of situations at least to where it’s workable.
Do we see why this wouldn’t work at all for the traumatized guy whose entire coping mechanism is control, and whose responses to that control being derailed have ranged from blowing up at the person causing them delays to full-fledged panic attacks?
“But Clockie, that cements it, Shiro has so much to learn from-”
The Lions are not personality training wheels.
You can’t force someone into a Lion they don’t fit to learn that virtue. You can’t make Keith be patient by trying to force him and Yellow onto each other. And, again: Shiro losing control does not inspire him to have a learning moment. It inspires him to do things like jettison Sendak.
We do not want to jettison Sendak. I mean. He’s a jerk, but now he’s a jerk at large. We especially do not want Shiro in the frame of mind* he was in from the Sendak-jettisoning incident during a Lion battle when he’s kind of responsible for the team standing upright. That would be upsetting for every single person involved.
*and by frame of mind I do mean panic attack.
Don’t put the traumatized guy in the trust fall Lion. I feel like the flipside also applies here because of the whole, y’know, the bonded paladins and Lions are explicit mirrors of each other? Don’t put the trust fall guy in the traumatized Lion.

Sine, Sine! I'm sorry to bother you, but do you have any good tips for writing 616 Tony! I just love your characterization so much :)
Oh, boy, an opportunity to talk about my fave! I was actually sitting here thinking, gosh, I hope someone asks me to write meta about my favorite characters sometime soon! And then you did, so thank you, anon! (And thank you, I’m glad you like my characterization.)
Uh. This got long.
I don’t know if what you want are tips on writing 616 Tony as distinct from other Tonys, or 616 Tony as distinct from other people in his universe, but I will try to hit both.
If you haven’t read Elspethdixon’s 616 Steve/Tony ship manifesto, you really should, because it contains the most important tip for writing 616 Tony, namely: Tony hates himself. A lot. Self-loathing is the background radiation of Tony Stark’s life.
The second most important thing, which you will also learn from that ship manifesto, and which you already knew, is that Tony Stark has a suit of Iron Man armor. Now, in MCU, we know that the way this goes is that Tony spends most of his life fucking around and being rich and wasted and making weapons until he gets captured in Afghanistan, takes a bunch of shrapnel to the chest, and decides to devote himself to superheroing. He has a secret identity that lasts… until the end of Iron Man 1. He is Iron Man, and it’s made him reevaluate his life. Also, he probably doesn’t hate himself. As much. I will leave that discussion to people who are more into MCU than I am.
616 Tony, on the other hand, becomes Iron Man when he’s really, really young. Like, early twenties. He doesn’t spend decades in dissolution. Vietnam is his impetus to become a superhero, yes, but it’s really not the same thing at all. By the time we get to modern canon this means he’s spent basically his entire adult life being a responsible superhero, and now he’s busy mentoring the next generation of superheroes – Kamala, Sam, and Miles while he was alive, and Riri now that he’s dead. (”Dead.” Comatose. Whatever.)
But the way that Tony’s self-loathing intersects with Iron Man is that he does the secret identity thing. No one knows. No one knows for years. Even after Steve finds out in the early 80s, most of the team doesn’t know for at least a decade after that. The public doesn’t find out until the early 2000s. (Twice. It’s complicated.) So even if you look at him now and see a guy with a public identity, you should realize that this is a very recent development in his life.
A lot of superheroes have tension between their caped and non-caped identities. Steve, for example, has a bunch of angst about trying to be Steve Rogers, a regular guy, versus Captain America, and how to live up to that, and how much of a regular life he should try to have. This is not Tony’s problem, as Tony’s regular life is… pretty out of the ordinary, as these things go. No, Tony uses his identity as Iron Man to fuel his self-loathing.
Iron Man is a hero. Iron Man saves people. Everything that is good about Tony, Tony puts in a box and calls it Iron Man. He compartmentalizes. (I could probably write a whole other post about how Tony’s a control freak.) Iron Man’s fine, and Tony develops a drinking problem. (Demon In A Bottle actually happened while Tony had a secret identity, and included him deciding that he was sick of being Tony Stark and was just going to be Iron Man.) While with someone else it might not be a bad thing to say that Iron Man is all the best parts of him… that doesn’t leave a lot to be Tony. And he doesn’t really like the parts that are left.
However, I think Tony Stark is still a really good guy. I mean, early canon is early canon, sure, but even as a boss he’s always depicted as, basically, the most benevolent face of capitalism you could possibly imagine. Like, the fantasy job that was available in the fifties and sixties where a dude could support a family of four and buy a nice house in the suburbs and then retire with a generous pension? A SI job is clearly that job. He knows his employees’ names, all of them, and he just seems deeply concerned about them, all the time. And, hey, how about that time he let the Avengers move into his house and never leave, huh? :)
Also he’s… not really a playboy, as I would use the term. During the early years, when he was dependent on the chestplate, he certainly used it as a cover, and we see him deliberately keeping himself from getting close to people because he was just going to die and make them sad (no really), as well as presumably to preserve his identity. We see him wishing that he could get closer to people because he has so much love to give! In the romantic relationships we’ve seen him in, he’s generally very devoted, occasionally more than the other person is, occasionally to the point of creepiness. (Okay, that’s not really one of his best traits.) He falls hard and fast. He just falls in love a lot. He sincerely does. He’s a romantic, even if his persona says otherwise. So, yeah, he has a public persona. Tony Stark is a public persona. It’s pretty evident that that’s not really him, either.
He’s not as quippy as MCU Tony, or as all-around warm-and-fuzzy nice as AA or MA:A Tony, or as utterly flamboyantly campy as Ults Tony (although, man, if you want to talk about drinking problems, go see Ults Tony). If you’re writing his internal voice, I tend to go with a fair amount of obscenities (more than Steve, anyway), and bring your science metaphors to the party if you got ‘em.
But, yeah, the self-loathing. I like to joke that you can tell it’s a good Iron Man comic if Tony is naked and crying, possibly in the rain, because he thinks none of his friends love him. (By this criterion, Iron Age and Execute Program are very good.) Possibly contingent upon the self-loathing, he never passes up an opportunity for self-sacrifice. Sure, any superhero worth his or her salt will happily die to save others – it’s part of the character type – but they all have to get in line behind Tony, who will be there killing himself first. Possibly several times. As many times as it takes. You know that moment in Red Zone where Tony rips off his helmet, exposing himself to deadly flesh-eating bacteria, to give Steve CPR and save Steve’s life, because Captain America is more important than him? That’s Tony Stark. I will also once again point to Execute Program, where Tony literally stops his heart to save Steve. He really likes killing himself for Steve.
I guess other than the self-loathing the main trait I think of as characteristic of 616 Tony is the sense of responsibility, and yeah, I do mean that in the Spider-Man “with great power” sense. He’s a founding Avenger. He knows what he’s doing. If you’re writing an MCU or an Ults story, say, there are a lot of things you could put the Avengers or the Ultimates up against that they’ve never seen before, and they might freak out. Just a little. (When the Ultimates first fight the Chitauri, Tony nearly gives up. He’s just a regular guy. He’s having a hard time dealing with this stuff.) But the thing about 616 is that it’s going to take a lot to make the Avengers, and by extension 616 Tony, freak out about anything. Their lives are weird. So, yeah, he’s seen it all, he’s vastly experienced, he’s been a professional superhero for ten or twelve years now – which, unlike in MCU, means it’s more or less his whole adult life – and he’s going to step up and take charge and do whatever needs to be done.
As an illustration of both his sense of responsibility and the degree to which he regards Tony and Iron Man as two different people, I want to point you to Iron Man v3, the Secretary of Defense arc. Following Red Zone, in which it was revealed that the Red Skull was the previous Secretary of Defense (616 governments are terrifying, okay?), Tony has been nominated to replace him. And we see his Senate hearing, and one of the senators has reservations about Tony’s suitability, based on his public persona. (This arc happens shortly after the first time the public learns Tony is Iron Man.) And this is Tony’s response:
Senator: We can’t let you loose in the Pentagon. You’ll turn it into a cult of personality and you’ll never listen to this body again! You’re too smart for school, Mr. Stark. You make up your own rules. For legal behavior. For being honest with people. I won’t even get into your personal life…
Tony: Is there a question in there, Senator?
Senator: It’s all a question! Why should anyone think that Tony Stark would put this nation’s safety before his own personal aggrandizement?
Tony: Because I’ve been doing that for years! Because I’m Iron Man – and I never ONCE took the credit!
Senator: What exactly do you mean, Mr. Stark?
Tony: Just what I said, Senator. “I’m Iron Man – and I never took the credit.”
Tony: Did I try to associate his positive image with my companies? Yes, I did. But that’s all. I never, ever asked for a direct reward for anything I ever did as Iron Man.
Tony: And for every life I told you I saved as Iron Man, there are tens – hundreds – that I’ve kept to myself. To save lives, I have traveled far. Farther than any of you will ever go. I have traveled to dark places. All alone, away from anyone who could see, hear, or help. I have staved off threats that you will never, ever hear about. The simple knowledge of them would wreak more fear and ruin on the world than I could ever hope to gain from them.
Tony: Yes, Tony Stark is Iron Man. But Iron Man is not about Tony Stark. Iron Man is about everyone else… and if Tony Stark is Defense Secretary, it’ll work the same way. That’s all I have to say. Thank you.
(This is IM v3 #76 & #78, BTW. We get half the speech during the hearing, and then half in boxes later while we see Iron Man risking his life to save people. Tony gets the SecDef job.)
So I think that speech basically sums up 616 Tony. He’s Iron Man, and he never took the credit. And that’s who 616 Tony Stark is, to me. It’s not just that he’s about accountability, as the MCU arc goes; it’s true that he’s also about accountability, but he’s about accountability not as something he’s finally learned but as a part of the core of his character from the very beginning, as a part of being responsible and doing the right thing and saving people. And not needing to take the credit.
I hope that helps answer your question!

Beginner's Guide to Computer Forensics
Introduction
Computer forensics is the practice of amassing, analyzing and reporting on virtual records in a manner this is legally admissible. It may be used in the detection and prevention of crime and in any dispute in which evidence is saved digitally. Computer forensics has similar examination tiers to other forensic disciplines and faces comparable problems.
About this guide
This guide discusses s PC forensics from an impartial attitude. It isn’t always linked to precise regulation or meant to sell a specific employer or product and is not written in the bias of both regulation enforcement or commercial computer forensics. It is aimed at a non-technical audience and gives a high-level view of computer forensics. This guide uses the time period “laptop”, however, the ideas apply to any tool capable of storing digital records. Where methodologies were mentioned they’re furnished as examples handiest and do now not represent pointers or recommendation. Users of PC forensics
There are few areas of crime or dispute where laptop forensics can not be carried out. Law enforcement companies were most of the earliest and heaviest customers of computer forensics and consequently have regularly been at the vanguard of trends within the area. Computers may represent a ‘scene of a crime’, for instance with hacking [ 1] or denial of service assaults [2] or they will preserve proof in the form of emails, internet records, documents or other documents relevant to crimes which include homicide, kidnap, fraud and drug trafficking. It is not just the content material of emails, files and other documents which can be of the hobby to investigators however additionally the ‘meta-records’ [3] related to those documents. A computer forensic exam may additionally reveal while a document first seemed on a computer, while it became remaining edited, whilst it become final saved or printed and which person completed these moves.
Guidelines
For proof to be admissible it must be dependable and no longer prejudicial, that means that at all degrees of this technique admissibility should be at the vanguard of a laptop forensic examiner’s thoughts. One set of hints which has been widely well-known to assist in this is the Association of Chief Police Officers Good Practice Guide for Computer-Based Electronic Evidence or ACPO Guide for the brief. Although the ACPO Guide is geared toward United Kingdom regulation enforcement its most important ideas are relevant to all laptop forensics in anything legislature. The 4 fundamental standards from this guide had been reproduced beneath (with references to law enforcement eliminated):
1. No motion must trade facts hung on a laptop or garage media which can be sooner or later relied upon in court.
2. In situations where a person finds it important to get admission to authentic information hung on a computer or garage media, that individual ought to be in a position to do so and be capable of giving proof explaining the relevance and the implications of their actions.
forensics
3. An audit trail or different record of all methods applied to laptop-based digital evidence ought to be created and preserved. An independent 0.33-birthday party has to be capable of studying those approaches and achieve the same end result.
4. The man or woman in the price of the research has standard responsibility for ensuring that the regulation and these principles are adhered to. In summary, no adjustments should be made to the original, but if get right of entry to/adjustments are vital the examiner ought to recognize what they are doing and to report their actions.
Live acquisition
Principle 2 above can also boost the question: In what situation could changes to a suspect’s pc by means of a computer forensic examiner be important? Traditionally, the computer forensic examiner could make a duplicate (or accumulate) records from a tool that’s grew to become off. A write-blocker[4] could be used to make an precise bit for bit copy [5] of the authentic garage medium. The examiner might work then from this replica, leaving the unique demonstrably unchanged.
However, on occasion it is not feasible or perfect to replace a laptop off. It might not be possible to exchange a pc off if doing so would result in substantial financial or different loss for the proprietor. It may not be acceptable to exchange a computer off if doing so might mean that doubtlessly valuable proof can be misplaced. In each those circumstances the pc forensic examiner could need to perform a ‘stay acquisition’ which would contain going for walks a small software on the suspect computer in order to replica (or accumulate) the data to the examiner’s difficult power.
By going for walks this kind of software and attaching a destination pressure to the suspect pc, the examiner will make changes and/or additions to the kingdom of the computer which had been not present before his movements. Such actions would continue to be admissible as long as the examiner recorded their actions, became aware of their effect and was able to provide an explanation for their actions.
guide
Stages of an exam
For the functions of this text the laptop forensic exam process has been divided into six levels. Although they may be presented in their common chronological order, it’s miles essential at some stage in an examination to be bendy. For instance, during the evaluation degree the examiner may additionally find a new lead which could warrant further computers being tested and might suggest a return to the evaluation degree.
Readiness
Forensic readiness is an crucial and every now and then not noted level inside the examination method. In business pc forensics it may consist of educating customers approximately device preparedness; for instance, forensic examinations will offer more potent proof if a server or pc’s integrated auditing and logging structures are all switched on. For examiners there are numerous areas where earlier business enterprise can assist, such as training, ordinary testing and verification of software and device, familiarity with rules, managing sudden troubles (e.G., what to do if infant pornography is present all through a business process) and making sure that your on-site acquisition package is whole and in working order.
Evaluation
The evaluation degree consists of the receiving of clean commands, threat evaluation and allocation of roles and resources. Risk evaluation for law enforcement might also include an assessment of the probability of physical risk on coming into a suspect’s property and the way quality to cope with it. Commercial corporations also want to be aware of health and protection problems, while their assessment could also cowl reputational and economic dangers of accepting a specific task.
Collection
The principal part of the gathering level, acquisition, has been brought above. If acquisition is to be executed on-web site rather than in a laptop forensic laboratory then this level might encompass figuring out, securing and documenting the scene. Interviews or conferences with personnel who can also keep statistics which could be relevant to the examination (that could encompass the stop users of the computer, and the manager and character answerable for presenting computer offerings) could normally be done to this degree. The ‘bagging and tagging’ audit trail might begin right here by way of sealing any materials in precise tamper-glaring baggage. Consideration also wishes to receive to soundly and accurately transporting the cloth to the examiner’s laboratory.
Analysis
Analysis relies upon at the specifics of every job. The examiner usually affords remarks to the client throughout analysis and from this speak the evaluation may also take a one-of-a-kind course or be narrowed to precise regions. Analysis ought to be correct, thorough, independent, recorded, repeatable and completed inside the time-scales available and sources allotted. There are myriad equipment to be had for laptop forensics analysis. It is our opinion that the examiner must use any device they sense cozy with so long as they can justify their preference. The foremost necessities of a computer forensic tool is that it does what it is meant to do and the only manner for examiners to make sure of that is for them to often check and calibrate the tools they use before evaluation takes vicinity. Dual-device verification can verify end result integrity all through evaluation (if with device ‘A’ the examiner reveals artefact ‘X’ at area ‘Y’, then device ‘B’ need to replicate those results.)
Presentation
This degree generally involves the examiner generating a established report on their findings, addressing the points within the initial commands at the side of any subsequent commands. It might additionally cover another facts which the examiner deems applicable to the research. The document need to be written with the end reader in mind; in many instances the reader of the report could be non-technical, so the terminology must renowned this. The examiner ought to also be prepared to participate in meetings or phone meetings to discuss and tricky at the record.
Review
Along with the readiness level, the evaluate level is often left out or left out. This can be due to the perceived prices of doing work that isn’t always billable, or the need ‘to get on with the subsequent task’. However, a evaluate level integrated into every examination can assist save money and raise the extent of first-class by way of making future examinations greater green and time powerful. A overview of an exam can be simple, quick and may start all through any of the above ranges. It may additionally consist of a fundamental ‘what went wrong and the way can this be progressed’ and a ‘what went well and the way can it be integrated into destiny examinations’. Feedback from the instructing celebration need to also be sought. Any instructions learnt from this stage ought to be carried out to the following examination and fed into the readiness degree.
Issues going through computer forensics The issues going through computer forensics examiners can be broken down into three huge classes: technical, prison and administrative.
Encryption – Encrypted documents or tough drives may be not possible for investigators to view without the perfect key or password. Examiners must don’t forget that the key or password can be saved some other place on the computer or on another pc which the suspect has had get right of entry to to. It can also are living in the unstable reminiscence of a pc (known as RAM [6] that’s typically misplaced on computer close-down; any other motive to bear in mind the usage of live acquisition techniques as outlined above.
Increasing garage space – Storage media holds ever greater quantities of facts which for the examiner approach that their evaluation computers need to have sufficient processing strength and available storage to efficaciously address searching and analysing massive amounts of information.
New technologies – Computing is an ever-converting area, with new hardware, software and operating systems being continuously produced. No single computer forensic examiner may be an professional on all regions, even though they will frequently be predicted to examine some thing which they have not handled earlier than. In order to address this situation, the examiner ought to be organized and able to test and experiment with the behaviour of latest technologies. Networking and sharing information with other computer forensic examiners is also very beneficial in this recognize because it’s possibly someone else might also have already encountered the same problem.
Anti-forensics – Anti-forensics is the practice of trying to thwart pc forensic evaluation. This can also consist of encryption, the over-writing of information to make it unrecoverable, the change of documents’ meta-records and file obfuscation (disguising files). As with encryption above, the proof that such strategies were used may be stored somewhere else at the laptop or on any other laptop which the suspect has had access to. In our enjoy, it is very rare to see anti-forensics gear used correctly and regularly sufficient to definitely difficult to understand either their presence or the presence of the proof they have been used to hide.
Legal troubles Legal arguments may also confuse or distract from a laptop examiner’s findings. An instance right here would be the ‘Trojan Defence’. A Trojan is a bit of laptop code disguised as some thing benign however which has a hidden and malicious reason. Trojans have many makes use of, and consist of key-logging [7], uploading and downloading of documents and installation of viruses. A lawyer can be able to argue that actions on a computer were not done by a user but had been automatic by means of a Trojan without the user’s know-how; the sort of Trojan Defence has been effectively used even if no hint of a Trojan or different malicious code became discovered at the suspect’s pc. In such cases, a in a position opposing lawyer, provided with proof from a capable laptop forensic analyst, have to be able to brush aside such a controversy.
Accepted standards – There are a plethora of standards and recommendations in pc forensics, few of which seem like universally commonplace. This is due to a number of motives along with fashionable-putting our bodies being tied to unique law, standards being aimed either at regulation enforcement or industrial forensics however no longer at both, the authors of such standards now not being ordinary by their peers, or excessive becoming a member of costs dissuading practitioners from taking part.
Fitness to exercise – In many jurisdictions there’s no qualifying body to test the competence and integrity of laptop forensics experts. In such cases all of us may additionally present themselves as a laptop forensic expert, which may additionally result in laptop forensic examinations of questionable first-rate and a bad view of the career as an entire.
Resources and similarly reading There does now not look like a awesome quantity of fabric overlaying laptop forensics that is aimed at a non-technical readership. However the following links at links at the lowest of this page may additionally prove to be of interest prove to be of hobby:
Glossary
1. Hacking: modifying a PC in the way which was now not at first supposed with a purpose to benefit the hacker’s desires. 2. Denial of Service attack: an try and prevent valid customers of a laptop machine from getting access to that gadget’s data or offerings. 3. Meta-information: at a simple level meta-information is facts approximately facts. It may be embedded within files or saved externally in a separate record and may incorporate facts approximately the record’s creator, format, creation date and so on. 4. Write blocker: a hardware device or software program software which prevents any statistics from being changed or brought to the garage medium being examined. 5. Bit copy: bit is a contraction of the time period ‘binary digit’ and is the essential unit of computing. A bit reproduction refers to a sequential copy of each bit on a storage medium, which incorporates areas of the medium ‘invisible’ to the consumer. 6. RAM: Random Access Memory. RAM is a computer’s transient workspace and is unstable, this means that its contents are misplaced when the computer is powered off. 7. Key-logging: the recording of keyboard input giving the potential to examine a consumer’s typed passwords, emails and other private records.

Advent to Designing Open Supply Android Games for the Smart Telephones
Google has offered the open Supply tools and the education but it’s miles as much as you to learn and develop your personal apps for Smart Phones to prove how capable you’re at growing and designing open Source Games and to what price you may be capable of the offer in future trends online. Google I believe are an exquisite organization to work for and as massive as they’re with the Smart Telephones they recognize they do not have the time or sources to unmarried handily develop new gaming software nor for that count number have the time to exact mirror operating documents for Phones, it is simply not viable. But, they have got reportedly come to a few agreement with positive apps to be had for the Android, I assume to challenge the developing presence of Apple’s electricity. So, with that during thoughts lets get into the info on on-line gaming design.
People who make Video games through Javascript for cellular Phones especially arcade Video games users of Java.
Now Java has, like maximum software its very own script, script method a language wherein a application can understand if you do not have the proper software or do not understand which software to apply, then talk to an professional, these gaming specialists are referred to as C++ Engineers due to the fact this is the sort of language Java operates with. The ones already experienced within the language of C++ can use Java, and Java is gaming industry trendy, Java is also acknowledged for its Flash integration, audio software, texts and cloud-based totally open Supply development. this is generally achieved in Linux in preference to Unix and the imagery in these new media tools may be incredibly refreshing. This has reduced the quantity of work needed to research those talents. Open software program is a high-quality place to begin.
Before you layout the sport there are some belongings you need to recognize when designing free android apps Games for the telephone. Like an I-Pad and other contact display devices the Teflon screen creates a movement and through controlling your sport from the display can adjust the response time of your sport, these were my major concerns approximately Video games for the free android apps – they’re clunky and the controls except scroll button enabled are very worrying. In addition the lean sensor within the smartphone could be very advanced. Studying the way to program a sport like this is well beyond the scope of this introductory publish. All you need to understand with these issues or if you wish to analyze greater about these high quit troubles of designing Games for the free android apps telephone are GLSurfaceView ATTIC compression, VBO’s and there buffers (which can be responsible and amazing for giving remarks when a game crashes because you could trackback the results of the crash when you document it to Google.
a few exciting terminology which will enhance your know-how and help you train yourself about Video games designing for free android apps Telephones are listed in this quick glo2D side-scroller – Parallax layers, tile-primarily based worlds, lively sprites the right hardware buttons: enter structures, OpenGL, ES Writing Java code for free android apps Phones.
Is that this recreation for kids? If so make what’s called the gaming objects so, is the game for adults, if yes then cross ahead, add swear phrases and ugly violence; however otherwise preserve it easy, the excellent guess is to avoid anything like this due to the fact maximum Clever Telephones are confined and changing these regulations can be as equally complex as designing the Games so please for the users avoid any adult content.
To apprehend the layers and pix of any game you need to understand how the Structure and layers of the game are made.
On the screen, you have predominant loops. that is in which the sport has its major contents. Subgraphs are what the characters are in any recreation, these ought to be designed ahead and the use of the right software program to improve the code of these moving pictures, especially if you wish to carry your Games product at first and efficiently. A very good place to begin that specialize in is the colors inside the historical past of the game, as the Games flash between displays you need those hues to have some sort of continuity inside the manner that the transitions arise.
The gadgets of any recreation will include the player integrated to govern the sport to provide some sort of gravity to the game, this gives it a story and could make the sport extra exciting. How the characters or objects circulate in the sport may be very critical. The crash icons are called collision component, you will need to assume cautiously while making those and linking them with the dimensions and suitable coloration of the destruction of each man or woman character. You then ought to recognize the physics of ways these characters all blends. you may enhance your animation abilities by way of understanding the codes of Java and know approximately competencies inside these software program groups that assist you design your mobile phone sport. The players in the sport and the objectives of the sport and the way those characters move are protected in the game-designing international with beneficial terminology like Sprite and Rendor components also are associated with participant game Object.
In -order to transform your Games design from the precise language to the code equal that could then be uploaded to those Clever Telephones is similarly very crucial whilst designing Andriod Video games, that is called bootstrapping a sport. Bootstrapping allows the Games replace correctly with the aid of forging reciprocal input activities.
Next, you have to thread all of the Games technical pics collectively at this degree you’re at the sports Thread element referred to in advance about the Video games physics, the way in which destruction and collisions and different explosions you desire to re -create. At this factor, this is additionally wherein you embed your signature as a clothier of your cellular smartphone Games.
So how do you get concerned with software program shared on Google Phones?
Firstly the combination and design is observed in discussion board threads specifically while Video games are being designed, you may subscribe to these corporations on Boards, a lot of these Forums are free, and the super element about the 100 or so thousand developers for the duration of the world is they’re interested in you Learning the skills. while you analyze these abilities from them, the desire is you will percentage your frustrations with playing around with language on loading time it takes for, accessibility on your host as Java unique optimization is said to: ‘improve the compatibility with software’ and happily, this code could be very clean to use. The hassle is troubleshooting the mistakes; that is in which specialists in the Language end up helpful. if you want to paintings with others, this app building will not occur overnight you may want to forge relationships with different C++ JavaScript customers.
One of the developing troubles whilst using C++ and Javascript is the size of memory used, whilst designing a recreation. You should constantly first remember whether your game may be realistically designed within the facts boundaries, commonly approximately one hundred -three hundred ms. Once you understand the scale you may start to invoke your code into the GC (Gaming code).
Ways round this trouble of high Java scripted codes and coffee constrained space for Video games to be made within are to disregard what is called enums they are to heavy, delete study simplest strings (which you’ll must do on the cease of the game besides while the sport is performed. Look for string in the frameworks of your Java code. additionally keep away from JNI features in particular inside the inner loop in your Java code. As an example things that say go.Gl ()features should be double checked.
by means of creating layers inside the Games artwork be it sky land or heritage you usually need to integrate, that is part of any properly arcade Games fashion. a few key terms you need to consider while expanding your word list for you to recognize the micro designing backgrounds is discovered inside the layout (vertex) of Meta titles. Metal tiles are an crucial a part of the mapping of maximum Video games for Google Apps and Google Games at the Android HTC and other Google variations. Nokia is slightly distinctive and their gaming markets are slightly greater varied. you could take a look at your backgrounds in what’s referred to as SpriteMethodTest by way of checking the basic vert quads are in-line along with your orthographic projections. You also should watch the time it takes for these commands to bind with all the numerous tiles within the frame, this may take anything among 3- five ms when submitted to the Video games layers and the came itself to transform into an photograph takes an extra 16ms to reveal. you’ll additionally want to apprehend about the texture of your backgrounds map and make sure it is not to sparse. Sparse is a excellent phrase to put up in your terminology whilst communicating approximately designing Games for hand-held gadgets.
Here are a few Methods of troubleshooting your Video games tiled history. First you need to apprehend approximately VRAM and what sort of is available on each recreation whilst you design Video games something above will mean you have to pre-render the tile map of the background of your sport or app. this will additionally be expected by knowing degree length regulations within the VRAM and the dynamics within the distinct textures of your layered background. while you get close to 60 Hz then forestall and by way of doing this you have to be enough so that you can keep away from any headaches. According to analyze performed in a collection of case studies Android has determined to improve the Android’s interface within the Phones motive force; which means that those solutions of timing might also now be obsolete despite the fact that on my Andriod HTC this transition has no longer yet taken area. The App said to do this is called Froyo and is in keeping with Google Television an app that quickens no longer most effective the browser’s response time and assist combine thru Cloud servers from Google Chrome Browser extensions, to cellular Phones and direct hyperlinks among the 2.

This correspondence isn’t blue tooth or activated it’s far a route link accomplished inside Froyo on the browser and the cellular cellphone, you could discover more with the aid of looking Froyo on the internet. Froyo also will increase the velocity of the Telephones Games reaction, inside the Google video on YouTube a pink flashing display screen indicates when the smartphone without Froyo turned into slowing in response to the increase of the Games characters moving on the display screen. That response turned into now not associated with the background although to many layers designed for your recreation will reason a similar reaction. The way to avoid this is titled your image background from smaller snapshots so it seems identical across the display screen.
A number of the pitfalls of designing Games on-line through open Supply and brainstorming via Boards is that your code can be without difficulty cloned reproduced and then rereleased below a exclusive call, one instance of Google Apps presently that are displaying this pretty is Google Chromes new Browser. The actual browser is not available yet but three apps this week show Google Chrome Fakes, wherein you click on the Icon however still are the usage of the identical Android browser. For now you are higher of averting these Apps, in truth one among them is nothing to do with the browser it simply virtually provides the Google Chrome Icon as a screensaver. With this in thoughts, any safety you may carry out while growing Open Source software will make certain your withhold your unique ideas. If you can name them original then that will keep sturdy and hopefully you will now have a new skill that can earn you money in present day current learning society.

Update 0
Hello, Tumblr! Corollary here with a test post for a blog about a Dungeons and Dragons setting I’ve been working on for a few years now: The Trinity Cosmos. I’m very excited to share what I have with all of you, and hope that any Dungeon Masters or Players reading will find some inspiration for their own worlds. Update 1 will be in a week or two, and I will update on an unknown schedule after that, but I’d like to give you a preview now about the setting.
The Trinity Cosmos is composed by 14 planets and their moons. The setting doesn’t stray too far from the Core rules, but here are the highlights:
1: Plane shift only takes your soul to the outer planes, leaving your body unconscious and vulnerable in the physical plane. This is done to preserve some mysticism around communing with the divine, as well as preserving a barrier between gods and mortals that allows religion to involve questions of faith. There is a difference between believing in God, and knowing empirically that He exists.
2: Travel between the planets can be accomplished by teleport or plane shift, but must occur during an astronomical alignment in addition to the teleportation circle requirement. This gives the DM the opportunity to put a time limit on inter-planar quests that power gaming and meta-gaming will find difficult to break.
3: I have moved all resurrection magic into a new subcategory of magic: Blood Magic. The fact that character death can be removed by the expenditure of money has been one of the weaker points of the game, so this setting replaces the financial cost with various trades. For instance, Both resurrection and raise dead require someone to commune with the priest casting the spell, go into the afterlife, and trade places with them. I insist that if my players want to do this, it must be a named NPC with lines, not some schmuck they hired off the street. All of the resurrection magics require a trade like this, though revivify only gives the caster a level of exhaustion.
4: The creation of magic items will be outlined in explicit recipes rather than by gold pieces. This is more flavor than mechanic, but I prefer to extend the 5e policy that magic items don’t translate well into money.
I will be posting in more detail about the details of the cosmos as time goes on, and eventually will be giving details of all the worlds in the Cosmos. From the rain forests of Sky, to the lonely moon Sentinel at the end of the universe. I hope you have as much fun on the journey as much as I have had building it. See you soon!
