How to do Ritual Bath for Sensual Self Care.

Ceremonial bathing has been a part of many spiritual traditions for centuries from Hindu ablutions in the Ganga River to Christian baptisms. Even a simple bubble bath at home is a form of ritual. We often have an order to the way we prepare our bath; run the water, light a candle, watch the bath bomb fizz away.
Today I want to share with you how to create a sensual bath ritual for self care and feelings of beauty and empowerment. You can use this as a template to create any kind of bath ritual for most any purpose.

Items Needed:
Essential Oils (suggested options: Rose, Geranium, Ylang-Ylang, Sandalwood, Vetiver, or anything you prefer) Candles (non-scented, you can choose colors to reflect the mood/manifestation you desire such as red for passion, green for abundance, white of purification) sea salt/epsom salt libation (water/tea)
Optional extras: Sage, Palo Santo or Incense (to represent air and cleanse the space) Crystals (rose quartz for self love, amethyst for serenity, etc. Be sure they are not water soluble like Selenite)
Set your intention - What is it you wish to focus on? Beauty, love, abundance, releasing old pain. Get clear on your intention for your ritual.
Create sacred space - Set a specific time for your ritual. Make arrangements to have quiet and private space. Turn off your phone. Light candles, build a mini-altar. Have a glass of water or cup of tea nearby to sip on throughout your ritual.
Make your bath - While the water is running, add salt and chosen essential oils (approx 10 drops per). The temperature should be comfortably warm. You can also place crystals in your bath to add to the vibration of the water. Think of the water is a a conduit for your intention. Water is also the element of emotions.
Disrobe - Sounds like a “well of course” moment but slow down a bit. Don’t just fling your clothes to the side, the ritual starts now by slowing down and being present and intentional with every moment. Stand before your cauldron (bathtub) and really feel the air on your naked skin; feel the freedom of your body. If you have sage or palo santo this is a good time to smudge yourself by lighting it and swirling the smoke around your body. If its still smoldering be sure to place it on a safe surface like a plate or seashell. Take a few deep breaths and step into the bath.
Sink in - Before doing anything else allow yourself several moment of stillness; being held by the water. Breathe slowly and deeply in and out through your nose (if you are practiced in Ujjayi Breath now is a good time to begin).
Massage - Usually in the bath or a shower, we’re quick to lather up, get clean and get out. Here, slow down and enjoy not just the feeling of your hands caressing your skin but also the act of giving loving touch. Massage your feet, legs, hands and arms. Massage your belly and your chest; keep you movements towards your heart. Massage your neck and scalp.

Bathe - With your hands, or a small vessel like a cup or bowl, pour your bath water over each body part. As you pour bless and thank your body for carrying you through this life, for the lessons its taught you and the pleasures you’ve experienced in it. Say to yourself, either internal or vocally, “I see you, I love you, I thank you”.
(Depending on what your intention for the ritual was you may have other mantras or affirmations for this part such as “I am proud” “I am One with (chosen deity)” “I am Worthy” “I am Safe” “I am Enough”)
Bonus Techniques - After you’ve gone through your body blessings you can relax in the bath or try any of the following:
Listen to a Guided Meditation
Practice The Microcosmic Orbit
Medibation (Meditation + Masturbation)
Journaling
Cool rinse - After your bath you might consider a cool rinse to reset your nervous system. This is also great for your skin and circulation.
I encourage journaling after meditation sessions and rituals. Even if it’s only a few words, you can look back on it later to remind your of your experience or something you observed. Practices such as these are intended to cultivate a mindful intimacy with self and body through the senses. This is the essence of Tantra or Sacred/Mindful Sexuality.
