Accelerating Digital Transformation with Power Apps Migration
Digital transformation is about using digital technology to improve how your organization works. Digital transformation is adopting digital solutions and data for business processes and activities to engage customers, optimize operations, transform products, and empower employees. It allows organizations to build infrastructure with flexible capacity per business demands, expanding business models and revenue. Every business eventually needs to reinvent itself in the digital age for survival.
PowerApps can accelerate digital transformation. It is included as part of the widely used Office 365 platform. It can significantly impact how your business works and is an excellent means of application to accelerate your organization toward digital transformation. PowerApps can automate and support several specific, reasonably simple tasks. Trained employees can use power apps to automatically record information to Dynamics 365 using Microsoft Flow, eliminating the paper and manual data entries for several daily tasks.
Tumblr media
Power Apps can move your organization to digital transformation as you can build custom business apps connecting to your data stored either on Microsoft Dataverse or in various online and on-premises data sources, such as SharePoint, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and SQL Server. You can automate service requests, work on business workflow needs, and enable additional capabilities, like onboarding tasks, team member contact information and forms to complete their internal profiles. and customization for business tasks.

Brazilians and the lack of peace
Tumblr media
Hi guys, I've been trying to keep this blog clean of things other than plot/prompt ideas but. I'm Brazilian and maybe you've followed me here through Twitter, you probably already know, but Twitter is going to be banned in Brazil, because Elon Musk refuses to comply with very simple requests from our justice system, breaking several laws in our country and being extremely disrespectful overall.
Therefore, it was decided that the app will no longer operate in Brasil, which is annoying, but a necessary decision that I personally think is very correct. Just because you're a billionaire doesn't mean the laws of an entire country should bow to your grace, bitch. And since Twitter will no longer work in my country, Brazilian users are migrating in large numbers to Instagram, Telegram and especially to BlueSky. I personally chose BlueSky and I came here to ask you, if you also have one, consider following me :D
Anyways, fuck you Elon Musk, you are nothing but a spoiled brat with too much power, stay OUT of my country, we are not your subordinates and employees so you can decide the future of our entire country as if it were one of your companies, which you also happen to destroy. With that said, shove your ridiculous porn named site deep up your ass.
love ya bye :D

hello ms. comrade Ironside, longtime reader, first time caller.
as a fellow writer of queer erotica, I was wondering if you had any thoughts/spoons to share those thoughts on wordpress being swept into the AI debacle under automattic? (I think that’s what you use to host your cool website, forgive me if I am mistaken.) I’m trying to figure out where to set up an author website of my own so I don’t have to host my stuff on tumblr anymore, but I’m a bit gun-shy in the current moment. I know AI trawling is inevitable in today’s internet, but as someone who’s been doing the indie author thing for some time (and admirably!), is there something you would recommend, best practices or otherwise, to someone just trying to get their metaphorical kite off the ground? or anything you wish you knew when you set up your own author-type socials? any thought at all would be genuinely appreciated.
thanks for your time, and I hope you and yours are as well as can be expected 🖤
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but afaik nothing approaching best practices has been figured out yet; it's all already happening and there's precious little as can be done to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Of course I uncheck all the little boxes in settings and deny them my consent or whatever, but I don't think a gaggle of unimaginative piss-bellied technocrats who decided it was a sensible use of vast amounts of water and power to teach a computer how to write very badly are what I'd call trustworthy. I'm still gonna move all my website shit off of Wordpress because they won't let me get rid of the stupid AI assistant thing, but that's more a case of their UI being ugly and dumb than me thinking it'll actually do any good.
Best I can tell you on that front is to try to find yourself a niche and develop yourself as an artist from there; "Write the kinds of books you wish other people were writing" is good general advice, and a human operator is always going to be capable of things a predictive network just isn't. Other ppl are gonna disagree with that, but they're wrong. Their understanding of resource allocation and scarcity is just childishly naive and you shouldn't waste your time listening to people who think we're gonna solve climate change with apps or whatever.
Far as social media goes, this is still the best one for hocking books as far as I can tell. I'm hearing a lot of good things about Cohost and Pillowfort, but their user bases are still quite small, and I haven't found the indie author community on Bluesky yet. If Tumblr goes belly up I'll probably end up migrating to one of those first two primarily b/c I think longform blogging is the secret stuff for ppl like me who are just too crabby and agoraphobic to be Twitter influencers; I may not be any good at videos or regular quick posts or documenting the writing process (which is too bad, b/c a lot of my friends who do that stuff seem to be having fun with it), but I sure can Lay Out Some Thoughts in A Few Paragraphs and I like to think that's something ppl expect from a novelist.
Also, never get in a public argument, don't go posting Your Thoughts On The Issues unless someone asked or you feel like you've got something interesting to say, and be very selective with how much and what personal information you give out to the hoi polloi. Those are my 3 rules for how to do social media good.

Content warnings on this post: Pregnancy and its associated biological weirdness, premature birth, seizures, fleeting mention of suicide, and my favorite character in the entire world getting shot. Discretion is advised.
So I've been trying to figure out a way to calculate roughly what point in Lucrecia's pregnancy her big seizure occurred, leading to Vincent confronting Hojo and getting shot. We know it was in 1977, and I've always assumed it was fairly late (because Sephiroth was probably born on Christmas, see link above for justification), but there's not actually much of anything in canon to confirm or refute this assumption.
Only, actually, it turns out that there is. It's so far off the path of things that are common knowledge that it's fallen off the edge of the continent, but it's there.
This is...very long, but please bear with me, because this is the best example of the timeline of this series being staggeringly internally consistent that I've ever seen.
Lucrecia's seizure was caused by Jenova, because it's super similar to the seizures Cloud has in Advent Children. This is weird, because while not stated in the games, there is a very specifically phrased blurb in the Crisis Core Complete Guide stating that Lucrecia was never personally exposed to Jenova cells while carrying Sephiroth:
Tumblr media
[Description in alt text. Credit to jeange1231 and Shinra Archaeology on the bird app.]
Given that we don't have in-series canon that contradicts this, I have no issue with accepting it's canonicity. (This is what meta is for. Filling in gaps. Not contradicting the actual games.)
So the zygote/fetus that eventually became Sephiroth was treated in utero, with the assumption that it wouldn't spread to Lucrecia. I won't go into detail on the science here, but it makes sense that Gast and Co. made this assumption, given the existence of the placental barrier and the fact that Project S took place in the late 1970s, when we didn't understand these things as well as we do now. (We still do not understand them very well but that's neither here nor there.)
Cell migration between mother and child is a known phenomenon that isn't well understood, but occurs in a staggering number of pregnancies—it may occur in all pregnancies and simply not persist, but in humans it's been shown to persist for decades. (Basically everything I say about this is going to come from the paper linked above.) In humans it's known to occur no earlier than 10 weeks into a pregnancy. The paper doesn't seem to indicate the latest point it's known to occur in humans, which is interesting, but even if it only takes place for a very limited amount of time, that doesn't throw this off in the slightest.
According to the blurb above, Lucrecia canonically experienced cell migration, essentially being infected with Jenova by the unborn Sephiroth, but not in such a way that anyone caught it—or at least not until it was too late. If the cell migration itself was the event responsible for the seizure that pushed Vincent to confronting Hojo, that means that Sephiroth absolutely couldn't have been born in 1977, much less on Christmas. Vincent was shot no earlier than October 13th, and cell migration occurs around 10-12 weeks.
But the seizure didn't happen at 10-12 weeks. It couldn't have—Sephiroth's strain of Jenova is unique in that it responds to his will specifically. Without his will, it's not really active, which we see all throughout the Compilation. Cloud only wakes up at the end of Crisis Core around the time that Sephiroth starts calling for Reunion, and he's not cognizant until that call is loud enough to start drawing other Clones out of hiding; likewise, he appears to be in remission between Meteorfall and the events of Advent Children, at which point he starts having seizures of his own in response to Sephiroth gathering enough power to pull at his strings for the first time in years.
Fetal brain development kicks into high gear at the onset of the third trimester, roughly 28 weeks into a traditional 40 week pregnancy. (Interestingly, in mice, cell migration only seems to occur 2 weeks into a pregnancy, which is the equivalent of the onset of the third trimester because lab mice have a total gestational period of about 3 weeks.)
The third trimester is the point when Sephiroth began to have a will with which to pull at the unique strain of Jenova cells that had migrated from him to Lucrecia. With that in mind, we can say with a decent level of confidence that Lucrecia's seizure took place in the third trimester, around 26-28 weeks in.
And here's where it all comes together.
Assuming that Sephiroth was born on Christmas of 1977, at or close to full term (38-40 weeks), this would put his conception around the end of March. If he was conceived at the end of March, do you know when the third trimester starts?
The first or second week of October.
The earliest date that Vincent could have been shot is October 13th, 1977, because he was 27 years old at the time, and he was born in 1950. Hojo shot Vincent when he confronted him about Lucrecia's seizure.
I'd always had the headcanon that Sephiroth was premature, but taking actual human gestation into account—combined with the nature of Lucrecia's seizure and the confirmation that her strain of Jenova comes from Sephiroth specifically via cell migration—makes this line up so perfectly that I have to admit that this headcanon is directly refuted by actual canon. Sephiroth may have been a week or two early, but not enough to worry. He was a perfectly healthy baby, born at a perfectly acceptable term.
And he was born on Christmas, because he was conceived in late March, because Lucrecia's seizure happened around the onset of the third trimester, which occurred in early to mid-October, which is the earliest possible timeframe that Vincent could have been shot for confronting Hojo about it.
This is so internally consistent that the real world facts and features of human gestation line up without causing a single wave. I'm losing my fucking mind.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Dozens of neo-Nazis are fleeing Telegram and moving to a relatively unknown secret chat app that has received funding from Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.
In a report from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue published on Friday morning, researchers found that in the wake of the arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov and charges against leaders of the so-called Terrorgram Collective, dozens of extremist groups have moved to the app SimpleX Chat in recent weeks over fears that Telegram’s privacy policies expose them to being arrested. The Terrorgram Collective is a neo-Nazi propaganda network that calls for acolytes to target government officials, attack power stations, and murder people of color.
While ISD stopped short of naming SimpleX in its report, the researchers point out that the app promotes itself as “having a different burner email or phone for each contact, and no hassle to manage them.” This is exactly how SimpleX refers to itself on its website.
Last month, one accelerationist group linked to the now defunct neo-Nazi terrorist group Atomwaffen Division, with more than 13,000 subscribers on Telegram, began migrating to SimpleX. Administrators of the channel advised subscribers that “while it's not as smooth as Telegram, it appears to be miles ahead with regard to privacy and security.”
The group now has 1,000 members on SimpleX and, according to ISD, is “part of a wider network built by neo-Nazi accelerationists that consists of nearly 30 channels and group chats,” which includes other well-known accelerationist groups like the Base. Accelerationists seek to speed up the downfall of Western society by triggering a race war in order to rebuild civilization based on their own white Christian values.
The network of groups on SimpleX are also sharing extremist content, including al-Qaeda training manuals, Hamas rocket development guides, neo-Nazi accelerationist handbooks, and militant anarchist literature. And in their newly secure channels on SimpleX, the members of the groups have immediately made direct calls for violence.
“During a 24-hour period on September 25, analysts observed three instances of users calling for the assassination of Vice President Kamala Harris, and one instance calling for the assassination of former President Donald Trump,” the ISD researchers wrote. “Similarly, numerous users called for a race war that would hasten the fall of society, allow them to take the US by force, and institute their desired system of white supremacy.”
SimpleX Chat is an app that was founded by UK-based developer Evgeny Poberezkin. It was initially launched in 2021, and a blog post in August announced that it had passed 100,000 downloads on Google’s Play store. The same blog post announced that Dorsey had led a $1.3 million investment round, having previously praised the app on other social media platforms. Dorsey did not reply to a request for comment.
Poberezkin told WIRED that he was unaware of the migration of neo-Nazi groups to his platform, but says he believes that despite his network’s focus on privacy, SimpleX can curb the spread of terrorist or abusive material on its app.
“Even in these early days we already did more to prevent distribution of [child sexual abuse material] via the preset servers included in the app than many other platforms did, even though they have much more control,” Poberezkin says. “While we cannot indiscriminately scan all content, and it would have been a human rights violation to do so, if the group entry point is publicly promoted and can be joined, and it uses the servers that we operate, we can remove these entry points and the files from the servers. A very important quality of the SimpleX network is that users cannot be approached unless they want to be. It protects the users from any hostile actors and unwanted promotions.”
In February of this year, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that forcing encrypted messaging apps to provide a backdoor to law enforcement was illegal, a decision that undermined the EU’s plan to force encrypted messaging apps to scan all user content for identifiers of child sexual abuse material.
For years, neo-Nazi groups have flourished on Telegram, many of them under the assumption that Telegram was a fully encrypted platform that provided a greater level of security than it really did. Telegram was used by these groups for building out their networks, sharing propaganda, and planning attacks. However, two of the leaders of the Terrorgram Collective were arrested and charged last month, which was a key factor in triggering the migration to SimpleX, the ISD analysts wrote. The group used Telegram to encourage acts of terrorism in the US and overseas.
“For terrorists and violent extremists looking to avoid detection, SimpleX Chat provides significant advantages over Telegram, largely due to its design and features that prioritize privacy and anonymity,” Marc-André Argentino, a senior research fellow at the Accelerationism Research Consortium, wrote last month in an analysis also discussing the migration of extremists from Telegram to the new platform. “SimpleX offers end-to-end encryption by default for all messages, whereas Telegram only encrypts conversations in its ‘secret chats.’”
Poberezkin says that SimpleX is “100 percent private by design” and that even if he wanted to, he couldn’t access information about user IP addresses. Another key privacy aspect of the app is that, unlike most other encrypted chat apps, SimpleX does not require users to enter a phone number or email to register for an account—removing one of the key ways that law enforcement can track down users on other platforms.
“SimpleX, at its core, is designed to be truly distributed with no central server. This allows for enormous scalability at low cost, and also makes it virtually impossible to snoop on the network graph,” Poberezkin wrote in a company blog post published in 2022.
SimpleX’s policies expressly prohibit “sending illegal communications” and outline how SimpleX will remove such content if it is discovered. Much of the content that these terrorist groups have shared on Telegram—and are already resharing on SimpleX—has been deemed illegal in the UK, Canada, and Europe.
Argentino wrote in his analysis that discussion about moving from Telegram to platforms with better security measures began in June, with discussion of SimpleX as an option taking place in July among a number of extremist groups. Though it wasn’t until September, and the Terrorgram arrests, that the decision was made to migrate to SimpleX, the groups are already establishing themselves on the new platform.
“The groups that have migrated are already populating the platform with legacy material such as Terrorgram manuals and are actively recruiting propagandists, hackers, and graphic designers, among other desired personnel,” the ISD researchers wrote.
However, there are some downsides to the additional security provided by SimpleX, such as the fact that it is not as easy for these groups to network and therefore grow, and disseminating propaganda faces similar restrictions.
“While there is newfound enthusiasm over the migration, it remains unclear if the platform will become a central organizing hub,” ISD researchers wrote.
And Poberezkin believes that the current limitations of his technology will mean these groups will eventually abandon SimpleX.
“SimpleX is a communication network rather than a service or a platform where users can host their own servers, like in OpenWeb, so we were not aware that extremists have been using it,” says Poberezkin. “We never designed groups to be usable for more than 50 users and we’ve been really surprised to see them growing to the current sizes despite limited usability and performance. We do not think it is technically possible to create a social network of a meaningful size in the SimpleX network.”

"Homophile organization publications had always looked at their more daring physique counterparts with envy. In the wake of the Manual v. Day decision, they had already begun to resemble physique magazines. After 1967, with the threat of prosecution removed, they adopted a similar racy format. Vector, published by San Francisco's Society for Individual Rights, offered its first nude male centerfold in June 1969, and a few months later full-frontal nudity had migrated to its cover. Soon Mattachine Times in New York followed suit, featuring cover images of young men in posing straps...
This tendency to combine gay news, nude images, and raunchy classified advertising continued until magazines sought to attract large, mainstream advertisers. New York's GAY felt pressure early on from advertisers who objected to the use of nudes, particularly on the cover, forcing editor Nichols to moderate their use. Thus began a movement away from a sexual liberation ethos to a more sanitized, corporate look. Like lots of gay periodicals, GAY abandoned its cor gay business in search of mainstream acceptance.
The Advocate resisted this trend at first, keeping its racy classified ads but segregating them to a pullout section. "I like them; their fun," the Advocate's editor-in-chief Richard Rouilard proclaimed. "This is the way gays and lesbians talk to each other worldwide. And if you are going to compromise this community for advertisers or so that your mother can read the magazine, go buy yourself a copy of 'Catch-22.'" But even the Advocate eventually had to succumb to the demands of larger advertising dollars, spinning off its classifieds and naked images into a separate magazine. With the rise of upscale publications such as Genre and Out in the 1990s, the realms of homoerotic imagery and gay news have become increasingly divided. In many ways this represents a return to a politics of respectability practiced by the homophile organizations, a trend reinforced in the twenty-first century as the LGBTQ movement became dominated by the political struggle for gay marriage.
The current bifurcation in LGBT media between the political and the erotic makes it difficult for us to see that the worlds of gay commerce, sex, and politics were once mutually reinforcing. Today gay men go to smart-phone apps like Grindr to hook up but to news websites or an LGBT advocacy organization to catch up on civil rights issues and community affairs. But historically it was the desire to connect and find one another that gave rise to such community publications. It was [gay physique photographer] Bob Mizer's classified ad in Strength & Health that had alerted him to the large reservoir of gay men seeking contact with one another. Gay men had pleaded with physique and homophile organizations to allow them to connect, but the first tentative steps in that direction were met with swift and decisive state suppression. Gay men went to prison and others lost their jobs merely for participating in a gay pen-pal club. But thanks to physique entrepreneurs such as Lynn Womack, the correspondence club was able to thrive and morph into the classified ad, which was soon replaced with phone sex lines, followed by AOL chatrooms, and now hookup mobile applications such as Grinder and Scruff. The technology may have changed, but the business of connecting gay men has a long and rich history.
Today the term "gay power" is remembered as a political slogan shouted at the 1969 Stonewall Riots, but in the beginning it was understood largely in economic terms. Two years before the riots, Vector inaugurated a new column called "Gay Power" featuring information about its advertisers. The idea came from a young but vocal SIR member, Pat Hallinan, who suggested that it was time to invoke "our secret weapon, GAY POWER, upon the economic world." As the column advised, "When you visit our friends and advertisers, tell 'em you saw it in Vector--that's GAY POWER!" A few months later, the founder of the Los Angeles Advocate similarly advised readers, "You can do much to strengthen and promote power in the gay community because you wield the great deciding weapon: The Almighty Dollar." He defined "gay power" as "buying power, selling power, voting power...No dear, it isn't a queen with muscles," he joked.
...
Even when shouted at Stonewall, the cry for gay power was largely about the desire of gay men and women to have control of their own commercial spaces. "Get the Mafia and the Police Out of Gay Bars," proclaimed one of the first pamphlets in response to the raid of the Stonewall Inn. Craig Rodwell called for "gay businessmen" to open bars and shops to create a healthier social atmosphere than bars like Stonewall. And he simultaneously encouraged customers to support them and "Buy Gay."...
For many gay liberationists, especially in New York City, physique magazines also came under attack as exemplary of the negative effects of a gay ghetto. In contrast to previous generations of young men who found comfort in images that glorified the male body, gay liberationists saw exploitation. "These magazines crudely showed men as nothing but sex objects; if they were objects, I could be one too," remembered John Murphy. "That frightened me then, and it infuriates me now," he wrote in 1971. Some worried that the "masculine mystique" depicted in these magazines was so inaccessible and exaggerated that it constituted a form of self-hatred. "Those male idols so worshiped cannot possibly be faggots!" they complained. Following the Black Nationalist, Black Power, and feminist movements, they envisioned a world where gay men and women owned and managed their own, more equitable and inclusive, businesses.
Despite his "Buy Gay" campaign, Craig Rodwell refused to sell "sexploitative" magazines in his own Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookshop, offended by both the high price-tag for nude male images and what he found to be an over-emphasis on sex. He was unaware of how physique publishers such as Bob Mizer were among the oldest gay businesses around and had been created with precisely the same goal of fostering community. But Mizer's crusading mission had waned as many straight and gay publishers had since entered the market with an eye toward making a quick buck. Rodwell and other gay liberationists tarred them all with the same brush. They did not appreciate the tremendous struggles they had encountered in the face of government censorship. They increasingly saw physique businesses as part of the problem of, not the solution to, community empowerment."

i don't know anything about dmbj but I'm soo very curious about sunriseverse is it doable to just jump in? mwah
oh anon. oh anon. i am gently cradling your face. i am kissing you softly on the mouth. stroking my thumb across your cheek. this is the highest compliment you could possibly have given me.
i think you can probably jump into sunrise without knowing much about dmbj? since sunrise is so radically altered from canon (scifi/historical fusion, aliens(?), the power of gay love, cyborgs) you can kind of hit the ground running in my opinion.
there’s a LOT going on with sunrise but luckily i’ve done an insane amount of research (up until now. and continuing.) and taken meticulous notes of everything i’ve ever said in any dm/discord convo/tumblr post and am currently migrating all of my (9.5k+) notes from various other places onto my notion wiki page (slow going because i don’t currently have reliable wifi or free time. but i’m WORKING ON IT!!!!!! one day it will be completed). most of that isn’t currently available for public viewing (since most of it is just worldbuilding notes for myself) BUT i have a couple different places you can go for info and canon.
1. the (slightly oversimplified) sunrise verse crash course (textpost answer to an ask, 3k+)
2. my sunrise verse fics on ao3 (t, 29k, various pairings—includes my large long-term wip project, the same lies; if you have no knowledge of dmbj i would say start with tsl since it's the sha hai parallel and going into sha hai you don't need to know much, since the main character doesn't know shit either. but fair warning it takes me forever and a day to write updates because they're 5k and i'm still, alas, and forever, a longsuffering academic).
3. my sunrise tag on this blog
4. expanded timeline with notes on certain changes/differences and their causes and effects on my notion wiki timeline page (forgive the lightbulbs; those are research notes for my later self):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. brief overview of zhang sect sociopolitical power and status, also on my notion wiki:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is by NO MEANS anywhere NEAR the entirety of sunrise rattling around in my head (and my notes); like i said i have almost 10k of lore-related notes, most of which has yet to be properly organised (my very serious rigorous method of data collection was "copy-paste any relevant material into a notes app note page in the feverish hours of 22:00-04:00") not to mention the 4,000+ words of research notes i have in a different folder on my laptop (and that's only for the books/academic papers i've read!). if you have any questions please ask me because i love nothing more than talking extensively about this au, as my friends can attest.
um, yeah. thanks for the ask, anon!

Would you ever/are you consider(ing) writing non Brock/Brods fics for the Wild (or any other hockeys?) Not a request, I'm just curious if any other little guys are on your mind or if you're more of a one ship at a time kind of writer! And for Brock/Brods, what drew you to them initially, and what made you pick up the pen (open the laptop, ramble into your voice to text notes app, etc) and write some fic about them?
so i've been a wild fan for like... four seasons now, they're my hometown team, but i never was into hrpf (or rpf generally) at all until this year. last season i migrated from mostly doing hockey fandom on reddit to getting involved in the tumblr community and it flipped some kind of horrible switch in my brain and now this is all i can do anymore. but like, last november, before i followed any hrpf people even, i independently came to the conclusion, "huh, isn't it kind of fucked up that brodin's d partner of like ten years just left, and now he has to take on that dude's replacement? i think they should kiss about it." the wording of my first post on this topic was literally "im not going to write this, but someone should."
mission failed!!!!!
anyway like three months later my life imploded and i discovered the hrpf side of the community (unrelated events) and i happened upon this post:
and i went, "huh, pretty fucked up that there are all these parallels between these dudes. they should DEFINITELY kiss about it."
and then like 100k words of fanfiction, accidentally.
to answer your more pressing question no the way my brain works i can kind of only hyperfixate on one ship at a time and if im not fixated i can't write. other ships i like pretty well but not well enough to make content about include but are not limited to: kirill/zuccy, kirill/hootsy, hootsy/ohgren (niche rookie content right there), ekkie/boldy (with or without kirill in the mix) and sid/geno.

Bridging Urbanization and Nature: The Role of an Environmental Interpreter
Living in Toronto, a bustling urban landscape has made me acutely aware of the delicate balance between urbanization and nature. I’ve witnessed the notable trend of urbanization as human populations migrate from rural to urban areas as economic opportunities in the city grow. This has led me to raise questions like “What are the multifaceted environmental costs of urbanization on both biotic and abiotic entities, and how does this compromise the well-being of us humans? Or why is environmental conservation becoming more important as urbanization expands?” As an environmental science student, questions like these are partially answered when learning the history, interactions, and theories related to our planet. However, I’ve recognized that not everyone is aware of such information, hence why my ideal role as an environmental interpreter would be one where I can bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and public awareness. Doing so can potentially help the public foster a deep appreciation for nature and drive sustainable movements.
This role would ideally be situated in diverse and ecologically rich environments, such as different national parks, where I can immerse myself in nature’s wonders. This location would allow for hands-on field research and close interactions with the ecosystems and the species I aim to protect and conserve. That being said, scientific knowledge and research are generally classified as dull, dry facts full of jargon, unfavorable to an interpreter trying to gain public understanding to promote sustainable movements. However, as Mills suggests, a nature guide aims to prioritize inspiration over information and strives for restful, recreational, and intellectually stimulating experiences (Beck et al., 2018). Therefore, I would embrace Sam Ham’s thematic interpretation approach by developing overarching themes that highlight the interconnectedness of urbanization and the environment and utilize the TORE model (Thermatic, Organized, Relevant, Enjoyable) to structure interpretive messages for diverse audiences (Beck et al., 2018). In addition, applying Cornell’s “Flow Learning” model could be instrumental in my interpretive approach. Crafting activities that progress through stages of awakening enthusiasm, focused attention, direct experiences, and sharing inspiration can create a powerful and memorable experience for visitors, enough to create a movement toward potential environmental sustainability (Beck et al., 2018).
With that in mind, this role requires a diverse skill set, including expertise in ecosystems and conservation practices, data gathering, and analysis. Creative and adaptive communication skills to convey scientific information to diverse audiences using a variety of engaging mediums.  An understanding of the learning domains and styles, incorporating activities that engage participants emotionally, intellectually, and kinesthetically, ensuring that the interpretative methods cater to the preferences of various individuals.
Diving deeper into this ideal role, I found that although it would resonate with the majority of the set of principles and associated gifts presented in the textbook, the gift of illumination through technology can prove to be beneficial in the lens of conservation. Leveraging modern technology, such as interactive exhibits, virtual reality, or engaging apps, can enhance the interpretative experience, making scientific concepts/facts accessible and captivating for a wider audience and occasionally allowing the scene to interpret itself. This approach would protect and preserve current at-risk ecosystems that can’t accommodate further human stressors. Thus, hopefully, by embarking on this ideal role as an interpreter, I alongside others, can contribute to the preservation and sustainable coexistence of our expanding cities and the natural world.

Excerpt from this essay from David Sassoon, founder, editor and publisher of Inside Climate News:
Two visits to this wildlife sanctuary.  One week apart. I came to report the arrival of spring, an under-covered story. In the hope, too, that the new season might extinguish the fire in my brain, ablaze in the Anthropocene: The accelerating heat with its cascading catastrophes; the barbaric wars with their crimes against humanity; scorching hatreds shared instantly everywhere. Our raging modern inferno.
And yet, we are in the midpoint of a great annual renewal, marked by the seasonal migration of creatures beyond number flying their way north. Might the incessant flapping of billions of pairs of wings cool down the hemisphere? Surely birdsong is balm for our blisters and burns? I went looking for remedy with little idea of what I was soon to witness.
It turned out not to be the birds. You can hear them, but they’re hard to see. Sure, I had an adequate pair of binoculars with me, and a bird ID app on my phone. Hopeless tools for an earthbound biped like me. My naked ears were far more useful. They could hear a woodpecker knocking into a distant tree. Mourning doves cooing in a branch above. An unseen swallow buzzing past my scalp. Blackbirds shrieking among the tall phragmites. Though it was daytime, an owl hooted, and a bullfrog seemed to answer. A paddling mallard provoked the obnoxious honking of a pair of rowdy geese. Only two of them, so damn loud. My notes also say: Fiddleheads. Bees. Chipmunks. Flash of orange. (In retrospect, likely an oriole.)
I was grasping one thing at a time, cataloging the natural order—an outsider to it. What if I tried to listen to everything at once? It took repeated effort to gain fleeting entry into a parallel  world that wasn’t mine. A fluid orchestra of countless musicians perfectly riffing. The forest multi-tonal. Deciduous jazz. Not a single bad seat in the house. The debut of an up-tempo composition I’ll call How many dialects of warbler can the robin understand? Never to be played again.
What became apparent is that I don’t speak nature. The other sapiens I encountered didn’t seem to, either. A wholesome church group of well-dressed young adults. A guy in a baseball cap effusive about sighting a beaver. A teenager in pants striped red and white sporting a nose ring. All of us of such varied plumage yet belonging to a single species.
To us it was Saturday morning. How laughable. I had arrived at nine—much too late to get the worm—and now, after a few hours as I began walking out, I turned my gaze upwards. I saw the architecture of tree branches; bud break of leaves; the sky. Oh! The bird realm! The aerial kingdom! I would need to return to see it in a new light.
My neighbor remembers when she was a young girl, the birds were so loud in the early morning that to sleep she’d have to plug her ears. We didn’t realize how much things were changing around us over the last half century. The human population was doubling from four to eight billion. On the other hand, the population of breeding birds was declining by three billion, a 30 percent drop—in North America alone.
The last time birds had it so bad might have been when an asteroid six or nine miles wide slammed into the Earth, eons before hominids first walked upright. With two hundred million years of evolutionary history in their bones, birds are confronting a relatively instantaneous collective demise at our hands.
We’ve been hearing these dire warnings for many years, yet the environmental carnage continues unabated. It’s part of what science calls biodiversity loss, the path we’ve trod in the Anthropocene, with its thousandfold increase in extinctions. We have no shame.
