luke fumbling in recruiting percy has to be one of his greatest failures. a beautiful thing the show does regarding luke and percy's relationship is building rapport between them through shared moments like settling into camp, eating meals together, but especially through swordfighting lessons. the swordfighting scene at the beginning of episode 8 not only reveals that percy and luke already share similar beliefs about the fear-based system the gods have cultivated, but it's clear the conversation stays with percy when he fights ares and later calls out zeus on his waning skills as a father and a king. however, luke's plan fell through the moment percy learned that the winged-shoes were meant to drag him to tartarus. not only that, but the shoes nearly killed grover, a friend percy cared for deeply. if nourishing loyalty and trust was the key to ensuring a partnership with percy, then it was luke's faulty planning, arrogance, and impatience that cost him the greatest ally he could ask for.

I can say only one thing.... I peaked with Odysseus/Poseidon hair pull drawing. Im not sure with this one. Poseidon got censored. No Boobseidon here.

The idea of poseidon only helping percy because he saw athena not helping annabeth is so funny because it shows how messy the Greek gods are like wdym you have a millennium old beef with your niece and the only reason you saved your kid it's so you can say you're better parent than her???

I haven’t read the odyssey in a long time but from what I remember Epic!Odysseus is far more tragic than the original. By the end, Odysseus is a monster and a far cry from the man who struggled over killing a baby. Poseidon wins. He is ruthlessness. His mercy “drowned.” He has no guilt over the slaughter of 108 young men and is exactly like the Cyclopes he spared all those years ago.

And so little of it is his own fault.

In fact, you could argue that Epic!Odysseus’s hero flaw is his mercy, unlike the OG!Odysseus’s flaw of arrogance and pride.

He should have killed the cyclops. He should have killed his men to keep the wind bag closed. He should have left his men behind at Circe’s since they’ll betray him anyway. He was right to sacrifice six to Scylla. He was right to chose himself over his men. He was right to fight Poseidon. He was right to kill the suitors who threatened the fate of his family.

It’s a tragedy because we watch a good man lose his humanity to survive and ultimately be rewarded for it.

How much kinder would the world have been to EPIC!Odysseus if he’d just been cruel first?

Which is why I’m glad we don’t get the reconciliation between Athena and Odysseus in EPIC like we do in the Odyssey. Athena became more human as Odysseus lost his humanity. They are no longer able to walk together to a better tomorrow because Odysseus can no longer picture a kinder world.

I can easily picture the retuned King of Ithaca a hard and punishing ruler. His orders must be taken without question unlike before where he allowed discussion — before the betrayal of Eurylochus. He does not tolerate rumors. Punishments are swift. He will not allow others to try and trick him with their words. He’s a liar and a trickster and a thief and a murderer and stronger for it.

I still believe Ithaca will flourish under his rule. The power hungry are crushed. The King of Ithaca will trust no one except his wife and son.

I can also see Odysseus and Telemachus clashing often. Telemachus grows into the man Odysseus was. He is allowed to stay youthful and gentle under the tutelage of a kinder Athena and has always strove to craft himself to be like the man in his mother’s stories. Maybe over time, he’ll learn to be harder from the father who returned but never as cruel. The world simply hasn’t made him abandon his mercy.

It’s the way how in the first book Poseidon’s presence in Percy’s life was so limited to just being a passive participant. He would only step in if Percy asked for his help, never taking the first step, for example: right before Percy jumped off the arch, he had to be the one to pray to his father to help him. And even after requesting his help, Poseidon only gave him 3 pearls, knowing that Percy wanted to save his mother.

In the show however, he’s so much more actively involved in the quest. Saving Percy from the arch without being asked to. Giving him 4 pearls instead of 3 and at the end even surrendering to Zeus and accepting defeat in the war to save his son.

The delicious, tragic irony of Percy, who looks exactly like Rhea, being both desired and loved by:

Luke Castellan. Kronos' right hand and host, sharing his ideals as well.

Jason Grace. Son of Zeus who's straight up Kronos' carbon copy.

And falling in love for both of them simultaneously.

One way or another, she's doomed to relive the past.

Hades: Well, I just was thinking that I guess I'm losing my touch.

Hades: Normally, I'm pretty good at telling when someone's about to come see me; however, I thought I was about to get at least a horde of new residents in the Underworld, but it was just you screaming bloody murder. (Shrugs) Oh well. No one's perfect. You know that better than anyone, am I right?

Poseidon:...(tries to strangle him)

Poseidon: I don't exactly... approve of it. Besides, he's not my favorite. You are my favorite son, Percy.

Percy: Polyphemus said he was your favorite son.

Poseidon: He's my least favorite. I still love him, but we don't see eye to eye - pun unintended - on many things.

Percy: oh

Percy: Well, Tyson is my favorite on the greek side of the family.

Poseidon, hugging Percy: This is why you're my favorite. It's so rare to see my children taking care of each other instead of killing each other.

OLYMPIAN DESIIIIIGNS.

After all this time brainrotting on Greek mythology and the Iliad and all that stuff, I just HAD to draw consistent designs for the major gods. The first ten of them are finally done, and hopefully I don't have to name them, they should be pretty self explanatory. x)

I did a lot of research on symbols and iconography and shapes language, I'm kinda proud of those designs so far. Will use them in my doods. And can't wait to start working on the others (mainly Demeter, Hestia, Hades, Persephone and Hephaestus).
