The above is a video shared by smrchildsadness on Twitter, showing a person participating in a pride parade exchanging a pride flag with a person standing on his (am using his pronoun based on the TikToks/Tweets of what happened) doorway who had a Portuguese flag. There are sounds of cheers and crying and the two people hug each other as they exchange the flags. The man at the doorway then waved kisses to the crowd within the pride parade.
The Tweet says: "NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HE WAS WAVING THE PORTUGUESE FLAG BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE A PRIDE FLAG AND THEY TRADED FLAGS AND HE'S SO EMOTIONAL TO GET HIS OWN PRIDE FLAG I'M EMOTIONALLY RUINED"
For context, apparently they were worried that maybe he's a nationalist because he was waving the Portuguese flag and some nationalists opposing the pride march were waving that flag. But upon interacting with him, it turns out he didn't have have a pride flag and he wanted to wave *a* flag in support of the pride march. So they had an exchange and now he has his own pride flag 😭🥹.

The image above is a Tweet by kunwara_ladkaa that says "I'm crying so much right now (Image taken by Manuel Fernando Araújo/Lusa)". The image shows the same man from the pride parade crying as he hugs his new pride flag.
Tumblr media
The above image is a Tweet by dudz_zZzz that says "ainda não parei de pensar nele," which according to Google translate from Portuguese to English is "I still haven't stopped thinking about him." The image is a drawing of the person from the pride parade, crying as he hugs his new pride flag.

Second #JurassicJune post!
Oops, turns out they were both male, but Miragaia doesn't seem to mind. We continue our journey over the lands of the Lourinhã Formation, with some Lusotitan and Dinheirosaurus/Supersaurus patrolling the floodplains. A Draconyx herd in the background.

The legalization of same-sex marriage in Portugal marked a significant milestone in the nation's commitment to equality and human rights. On June 5, 2010, Portugal became the eighth country in the world to legally recognize same-sex marriages, following a successful passage of the law through the Portuguese Parliament and its subsequent signing by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva. This historic achievement was a momentous victory for the LGBT community and advocates of equal rights.
The legislation allowed same-sex couples to marry and enjoy the same legal rights and responsibilities as heterosexual couples. This included recognition in matters of inheritance, taxation, and social security, thereby ensuring equal protection under the law for all families.
The enactment of this law was celebrated across Portugal with jubilant public gatherings and heartfelt wedding ceremonies, symbolizing a new era of inclusivity and acceptance. Portugal's progressive stance on marriage equality set an example for other nations, demonstrating that societal advancement and the protection of fundamental human rights go hand in hand.
Portugal's decision to legalize same-sex marriage underscored its dedication to fostering a society where diversity is embraced, and all individuals are afforded the dignity and respect they deserve. It highlighted the country's commitment to justice and equality, reinforcing the notion that love, in all its forms, should be celebrated and protected.
Reflecting on this historic achievement, we are reminded of the ongoing struggle for full equality and the importance of continued advocacy and support for the LGBT community.

Canis lupus signatus better known as the Iberian Wolf or Lobo ibérico, is a subspecies of grey wolf which inhabits the Iberian Peninsula, specifically northwestern Spain and northern Portugal. This subspecies has been cut off from the rest of Europe's wolves for nearly two centuries and at upwards of 2,800 wolves is the largest wolf population in Western Europe. These primarily nocturnal canines live in small packs of 3 to 10 individuals comprised of one primary breeding pair, there siblings, and both mature and immature offspring. They inhabit forests, grasslands, and mountainous regions. Here they feed upon wild boars, rabbits, roe deer, red deer, ibexes, and occasionally livestock, various birds, fish, lizards, snakes, frogs, and even smaller carnivores. Reaching around 43.3 to 55.1 inches (110–140cms) in body length, 27.6 to 35.4 inches (70 to 90cms) tall at the shoulder, and 55 to 121 pounds (25 to 55kgs) in weight. The Iberian wolf differs from the more common Eurasian wolf with its lighter frame, white marks on the upper lips, the dark marks on the tail, and a pair of dark marks in its front legs that give it its subspecies name, signatus ("marked"). Iberian wolves are generally monogamous and mate for life. The female is responsible for digging a den, where she further gives birth and raises 1-14 pups after a 60-63 day pregnancy. For the first 45 days, all members of the pack participate in feeding the pups through regurgitation. The mother stays with the young for the first 3 weeks, after which the pups continue living in the den until they reach the age of 8-10 weeks. Females become reproductively mature at 2 years old, and males when they are 3 years old. Under ideal conditions an Iberian wolf may live up to 13 years.

🌟Just a quick note to let you know that you’re doing better than you think. Life can be tough, and it’s easy to overlook your own strength, but you’ve made it this far, and that’s no small thing. You bring something unique to the world just by being here. Even on the hard days, remember that your presence has an impact. Take a moment to appreciate how far you've come, and know that you matter, more than you realize. You’re not alone in this, and things will get better. Keep going, one step at a time
I remember a few years ago, there was this trend going around, of people sending positive messages like this one to random accounts.
Having said that, I don't know if this was written especially with me in mind, or if it is still from that trend. Nonetheless, thank you so much for taking the time. 🤍 Really. I read it on the day you sent it, but I was too emotional to reply. Thank you!
--
And if you (or anyone reading this) also needs to be reminded of how special they are - then please, go ahead and read it again, but not as a message someone sent to me, but as a message I've sent to you!
Let me also be the person that says how unique and necessary you are; to wish you all the strength you need to survive yet another day, and that reminds you of all past challenges you've already won ✨ we are so much stronger than we think...
→ About this song: if you do not understand portuguese, please search for the lyrics' and look for its translation.
(and now, totally unrelated, but more about this song and the people behind it, below)
Totally not related to this ask, nor to this song's meaning, but, if you want to go on a deep dive, check out António Variações.
Tumblr media
Humanos, was a supergroup created by 7 musical giants, and performed by 3 amazing and already famous singers, from different music genres (pop, pop-rock and fado).
They got together to give a different spin to some already known songs that Variações released during his lifetime, and to bring back to life some of his exclusive/unreleased music.
In 2004 they were everywhere, and it was such a beautiful historical moment to witness!
Tumblr media
They not only honoured his (unfortunately) short life, but also reminded Portuguese society how talented, revolutionary and ahead of its time he looked and behaved (and I am obviously not just talking about his fashion sense).
And more importantly, they showed us how today's society would still discriminate against him, and that what he (and others) started back in the 80s, it's still (in 2024) far from the ideal they (and every LGBTQIA+ ally) would consider safe, fair and true.
It's better, of course, but we still need people like him: people who are brave, not afraid to be vulnerable, true to their values, and loyal to ones we love (and love us back).
Tumblr media
There's a movie about him, called "Variações" that I also highly recommend! (TMI: It was the last movie I watched in theatre, before 2020's lockdown 🥲 I truly thought: "well, at least the last movie I watched outside was this masterpiece")

Well, for those who are curious, here is the project I was working on for my wife. She has a collection of perfume bottles that she wants to display and she wanted art to accompany them. I took her pop culture interests and made them into faux scent products. Boa Noite is from Love Actually, Grantham is from Downton Abbey, Monks Barton is from Midsomer Murders, Black Ash is the type of tobacco that Sherlock Holmes smoked, and Pemberley is from Pride and Prejudice.
