I worked on some pen and ink drawings for a gallery show only to discover that I had already missed the deadline. The theme for the show was female empowerment so I drew AOC, RBG, Wilma Mankiller, and Michelle Obama. These are iPhone photos of the originals and not scans so they’re not perfect representations of the actual work. As previously stated these are pen and ink drawings, even the color is ink, on 100lbs vellum bristol paper. All of them are 8”x10”.

I have a friend who posts a lot of cat videos where the cat is up to some kind of shenanigans (as cats are wont to do) and he inevitably calls them "asshat cats". I was doodling in my sketchbook yesterday and came up with this somehow. I guess the phrase was on my mind. You never know where my mind will go.....

I went to another 7000 BC meeting today. I drew a few things in my sketchbook. The space guy and ship are from an old cut-out sheet, the robot is from an old movie, and the squirrel is something that came up in conversation at the meeting. All very random.

I’m not saying that I’m desperate right now but money is tight while I continue my search for full time employment so I’m looking for commissions and also plugging my books! All of my books are available on my website Dead Cat Comix and commissions can be purchased through there or my email [email protected]. A nice 8”x10” black and white headshot of a character or person is only $30. From there the prices increase for color, full body drawings, multiple characters, paper size, etc. Hit me up if you’re interested in any of these things. I could use the extra income right now. This drawing of Molly Ringwald was a recent commission.

Sketching in the Moleskine. Tennessee Tuxedo and his Tales. I fondly remember watching this cartoon as a kid but, after watching it as an adult, I know that nostalgia plays a large part in that as this cartoon was very poorly made. Despite the top notch voice over talent in Don Adams (Get Smart) and Larry Storch (F Troop, Ghost Busters) the animation and writing is fairly limited. I'm guessing this cartoon cost about thirty-five cents an episode to make. Lol.

I know it's February and Christmas has passed but I'm still working on the Christmas issue of my anthology comic Little Doodles. I drew this up for fun from an old photo. I'll probably use it in the comic somehow.

7000 BC
On Saturday I had the pleasure of sitting in on a meeting of a local (New Mexico) comic book creators group called 7000 BC. They meet regularly to talk about comics and to support one another in their endeavors. They also hold comic making workshops for all ages which is something I greatly admire. I like working to help others achieve their dreams of making comics. The members were all pleasant and talented and it is always a great joy to be able to talk "geek" with others. I met a middle school art teacher who teaches in Albuquerque which may come in handy if I need to network or just bounce ideas off once I, hopefully, get teaching work here. This group is very similar to the INDY Web group that I was associated with in Indiana and, after the meeting, I realized just home much I missed these type of meet ups and the camaraderie that they provide. I may be doing some work for them as part of an anthology book so look out for that.

A quick drawing I did the other day but forgot to post. This is a redesign of a public domain superhero named War Eagle. I think he made a grand total of ONE appearance in comics. I don't know much about the character except that his name was Bill Reed and that he was paralyzed. In my mind maybe he was a war veteran that was paralyzed in battle and given an experimental exoskeleton and wings to continue serving his country. I would have spent more time working on making this look better but it was really just a warm up so this is as far as I got.

Sketchbook drawing of J. Fred Muggs from a Jack Davis drawing in MAD magazine. If you don't know who J. Fred Muggs is, don't worry, that just means you're not old. He was a mascot for the original Today Show. He was on from 1953-1957. The show wasn't much more than people reading the news so they wanted to give people something to look at and so they brought Muggs in. he was a huge hit and stuck around until his erratic behavior forced him out. He has a successful career after and it's reported that he's still alive and living in Florida with his girlfriend. In MAD he was J. Floyd Gluggs and ultimately took over the show at the end of the comic.

If you follow this Tumblr on the regular then you'll know that my mind wanders sometimes and then you get this. You must admit, the resemblance between Ernest P. Worrell and John Cena is pretty strong lol. Well at least it's out of my head now.
