House on the coast.
Tumblr media
This past July, my wife and I took a cruise, the first stop on the cruise was Roatan, Honduras. This is an interesting house that we passed while the ship was pulling into port. The photo is a bit hazy, but the original is worse. The reason for the haze is that when I stepped out of our airconditioned suite onto the balcony, the lens fogged up.

Uncovering Roatan's Hidden Treasures
Roatan may not be the most popular port for gulf of Mexico cruises, but we found many reasons to like this tiny island off the coast of Honduras.

Cruise destinations you might have neglected
Maybe you are an experienced cruise veteran who is looking for a new place to explore. Or maybe, you simply want to experience a holiday destination that varies from the conventional cruise ships. Regardless of the reasons, there are many global destinations to sail to that are somewhat unconventional to your regular cruise holidays. Most people that book cruise for the very first time will make their choice based on when they can go and how long they will stay. The second most vital factor will be the expense involved. Everything else relies on those two items.
Tumblr media
If you fall into that broad category, you will have fewer options, but that doesn’t imply that you have to settle for something you don’t want. The best Carnival Mahogany Bay excursions vary from person to person. The very things that one cruiser will like about a cruise may be disliked by another cruiser. Fortunately, no matter whatever you like, there is something for everybody available in the market.
Candidly speaking, the “more is better” approach works in cruising and you will witness that at the Port of Roatan. Here are a few factors you may consider while selecting your cruise.
Ship size
Here are a few aspects one should consider regarding the size of the ship:
How many people you are travelling with
The bigger the ship the more numbers of people will be there. Candidly speaking, singles, families and singles travelling in groups during Royal Caribbean Excursions Roatan will favour the non-stop beat of the large ships. Then again, if you favour serenity and don’t like the hustle and bustle of the dining room or the poolside area, you’ll be luckier in small ships, especially the ones with less than 1200 passengers.
Regardless you are booking directly or through a travel agent, ask about the problems that are vital to you and be sure you check out the online feedbacks and testimonials to get the desired information.

Tropical Kingbird in Focus
Tumblr media
This tropical kingbird (Tyrannus melancholicus) was hanging out near the port at Roatan, Honduras a couple of years ago.
"One of the most common sights in Middle and South America, the handsome Tropical Kingbird sits on utility lines, fences, and exposed trees seemingly everywhere. These big, gray-and-yellow flycatchers catch insects on impressive pursuit flights, usually returning to the same perch to eat their catch. In the United States, the species nests just into southernmost Texas and Arizona, where it inhabits towns, ranches, and lowlands of many sorts, especially near water. …" - allaboutbirds.org

#Repost @thisdateinpiratehistory ・・・ • 28 March • On #thisdateinpiratehistory in 1718, Stede Bonnet, aboard his ship Revenge, unsuccessfully attacks the merchant ship, Protestant Caesar. Bonnet’s men spotted the merchant ship Protestant Caesar near Roatán, off the coast of Honduras. Protestant Caesar was an impressive ship boasting twenty-six cannon and 400-tons; she was more than four times the size of Bonnet’s Revenge. Nonetheless, Bonnet and his men decided to give chase and attack. They caught up to the Protestant Caesar at 9pm and, with a clever move, cut behind the merchant ship and fired five cannon and a volley of musket. The Caesar responded by firing off two stern guns and a hail of bullets. As the smoke cleared, Bonnet called out that if the ship fired another gun, no quarter would be given, and they would kill everyone onboard. Knowing a bluff when he saw one, the ship’s captain - William Wyer of Boston - let off another salvo of his cannon. The two ships exchanged fire for several hours, but seeing the futility of the effort, Bonnet eventually broke off from the engagement and retreated into the night. Disgruntled by the continued lack of successes under Bonnet, the crew made it known that his captaincy was on thin ice; many vowed to abandon when the ship came into the next port. As they pulled into Turneffe several days later, many were pleased to see the Queen Anne’s Revenge anchored nearby. . . . . . #piratehistory #piratehistorypodcast #piratesofthecaribbean #piratebattle #pirateship #stedebonnet #blackbeard #historyofpirates #piracy #historyofpiracy #roatan #piratebay https://www.instagram.com/p/CbqG4fGJoVE/?utm_medium=tumblr

Take action now! Indigenous human rights activists missing in Honduras
Tumblr media
A member of the Garifuna ethnic group takes part in a protest in front of the supreme court in Honduras. Photograph: Orlando Sierra/AFP/Getty Images
Unknown individuals, wearing police-type clothing took four Garifuna activists, Alberth Snider Centeno Tomas, President of the Board of Triunfo de la Cruz on behalf of the Black Fraternal Organization of Honduras (OFRANEH), Suami Aparicio Mejía García, Gerardo Mizael Rochez Cálix and Milton Joel Martínez Álvarez, members of the OFRANEH, and a fifth person, Junior Rafael Juárez Mejía, from their homes on 18 July 2020.
They have been missing since then. The Secretary of Security ordered a search operation, but their whereabouts remain unknown.
The Garifuna communities of Triunfo de la Cruz are part of the Black Fraternal Organization of Honduras (Organización Fraternal Negra Hondureña, OFRANEH), an organization that works to protect the economic, social, and cultural rights of the Garifuna communities.
On 8 October , 2015, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights ruled in favour of the Garífuna community of Triunfo de la Cruz, founding the Honduran state guilty of violating the right of the community to collective property.
Since the start of a total curfew in Honduras on in March 2020, due to COVID-19, Amnesty International has received several reports of serious attacks against human rights defenders, including members of OFRANEH. According to the organization, on 20 April, police officers stifled a protest in Oak Ridge, Roatan island, demanding a boat not to dock at the local port for public health reasons, and on 6 May, police officers threatened a group of young Garifuna people guarding the community of Travesía, Cortés department, with dropping tear gas bombs.
We demand authorities determine their whereabouts, ensure an independent, effective and impartial investigation into the case, and bring those responsible for their disappearance to justice.
Take action now - demand that the authorities in Honduras find these five indigenous activists
