Opened by an ex-head chef of a famous tonkatsu restaurant at ION Orchard. Maruhachi Donburi & Curry strived to sell restaurant quality teishoku sets, curry rice and donburi bowls at hawker centre prices. This is the takeaway bowl of Chicken Katsu Don that sis had. Came with crispy breaded chicken cutlet with egg over rice.
I had the Pork Katsu Curry Rice which had a sizeable piece of golden-brown breaded pork cutlet and pickled red daikon. The curry sauce is separated by partition in the bento box so you still get the crispy texture of the deep-fried pork. Both dishes are priced under S$10 each at the time of dining though prices had got up but still remain affordable.

Brothel AU: Entertainer's Menu
So my lovely, dear, bestest friend @flameroyalty is a very talented chef. I was talking to them about the Brothel AU and how much fun I've been having with it. They ALSO love making character-based menus. SO...
I've crafted the new lore that you can order a meal in the brothel normally, kinda like a restaurant hybrid situation. You can order certain items and it'll be discounted if you have the entertainer who helped craft the recipe.
So here's the top Entertainer's Menus!
RIDDLE Red Rose Chocolate tart with sliced strawberries, served with rose petals
SweetHearts Small tray of honey and cream macarons
Savor It Stuffed shitake mushrooms, rotating seasonally
(Yes, the fact one of Riddle's items are fucking mushrooms is hilarious to me)
LEONA Pride Chicken katsu curry, with rice
The Hunt A collection of meats, cheeses, nuts, and crackers
Triumph Hertzoggie, a pastry filled with jam and coconut
(Leona gives the leftover food from his skipped sessions to Ruggie)
JAMIL
Golden Baklava pastry filled warm spiced nuts
Mirage Chocolate creme brulee
Charmer Marinated curry chicken, with mango, rice, and coconut rice
(Jamil actually uses cracking the brulee to break his clients out of their hypnosis)
VIL
Indulgence Dark chocolate brownie served with raspberry sauce (The sauce is presented in a very elaborate bottle)
Pursuit Blueberry mousse tart
Striking Smoked salmon with cucumber, capers, and dill
(The fact Vil's favorite food is SMOOTHIES upset Flame. But she made it WORK.)
AND SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCE
YUU
Flight Vanilla Bean and lavender cupcakes topped with a variety of hand-blown sugar dragonflies
Luxury Mille Feuille with cookies and cream fillings
Spotted Black garlic ramen loaded with eggs and spicy marinated pork

✨🐾🍱🐾✨
Drew up my favorite and go-to lunch order.
Japanese Katsu Curry. Can be breaded chicken or pork cutlet. The curry sauce is commonly served over rice and often includes potato and carrot. Sliced flower shaped carrots floating on top of the curry and added broccoli on the side with sliced Japanese pickled ginger in the rice. 🍱✨

Brought mum to the coffee shop near my new place for lunch. Got my Teh Siew Dai (milk tea less sweet) and Kopi O (coffee black) for mum while she went to the economy rice stall to select her dishes. She chose a piece of braised pork belly with preserved vegetables (梅菜扣肉), omelette and a herbal chicken drumstick for her Economy Rice (菜饭).
I took the western food option and ordered the Happiness Plate which consisted of three pieces of fried chicken, toast, fries and coleslaw. I love the well-seasoned and juicy chicken though they are on the small side.
On behalf of sis, I got her the Chicken Katsu Don from Maruhachi Donburi & Curry. I think this is the last time I ordered from them as they close this branch not long after this.

Kiyomizudera, Sannenzaka, and Ninenzaka
Today began at around 10am, where we showered and got ready for the day. Then we headed out to Kiyomizudera temple, which is my second time here but I wanted to show my sister around since she wanted to see the Temple and the surrounding Sannenzaka area. I appreciated the temple about the same as much as last time I went, and I enjoy this temple a lot because there are a decent amount of things to do at the temple, such as the Otowa waterfall and womb tunnel.
The pagodas are always really nice to see and we went down a different trail this time which led us to the smaller pagoda on the other side across from the main temple area. We were also able to walk up to a different temple, called “Seikan-ji” which was a lot less busy and nearly empty. We also got to see a great view from the top. On the way up to this temple we also coincidentally ran into two other UF students who are on the study abroad trip that started right after mine ended. They also happened to be friends/roommates with my buddy Rich who I met on my study abroad trip. Pretty wild coincidence running into them, and it really makes the world feel much smaller.
After the temple, we walked down through the Sannenzaka area which is always fun, albeit a bit crowded. We even got to see the Yasaka Pagoda, which I am surprised that I didn’t see last time I was here with my class.
Following this, we went on a hunt for some place to eat lunch, it took a bit to try and find a place as it seems that there’s only really dessert shops and kimono rentals in this area. We stopped along the way at a fresh fruit juice shop, where I ordered a grape/lemon juice and I was a bit taken aback to see that she blended up an entire lemon wedge - rind and all. I was not a big fan of that as it made the drink far too bitter for my liking. After some walking we stumbled upon a random restaurant called “Ivory” which had some lunch specials that caught our eye. The employees were very nice and saw us standing outside pondering if we would be allowed to eat there as the sign outside said they closed in 8 minutes, but an elderly employee came out and told us to come in to eat. I ordered a pork rice bowl, which was essentially deluxe gyudon with a pretty tasty soup on the side.
After lunch we walked back to the Kyoto Kawaramachi area near our hotel and got on the subway to make our way over to the Kyoto Pokémon Center. I think this is my 4th or 5th Pokémon center that i’ve been to so far in Japan and i’m honestly hoping to get those numbers up!! I was excited to see this Pokémon center as I am a big fan of Lugia and Ho-oh and this one in particular has statues of them in the store.
Following our shopping at the Pokémon center, we headed back over to the Kawaramachi area again and hit up a few stores near here before heading back to the hotel to rest for a bit. Once we were re-energized we headed out to walk around Teramachi street and view the local shops. We had a lot of fun window shopping and getting some new clothes from Uniqlo. Once we had built up an appetite we stopped by Coco Ichibanya to grab some katsu curry (i know i’ve had it 2 days in a row i can’t help myself), since Michelle wanted to try it as she is also a fan of Japanese curry.
After dinner, we lounged around the hotel a bit before deciding to go to Round One to play some Maimai. After the first few rounds Michelle was hooked and having a blast attempting the expert level songs which was a lot of fun. After this we hit up Rainbow karaoke, where we then spent the next 2 hours there singing songs and overall having a good time. That mostly concludes our night and I look forward to another fun day tomorrow.

Suehiro Mini, 642 N Broadway, Ste 5, Los Angeles (Chinatown), CA 90012
Suehiro’s location in Little Tokyo was considered a legacy business. It was open for over 50 years, but they were evicted and closed earlier this year. Fortunately, they were able to find a new location. They also opened Suehiro Mini in 2019.
Suehiro specializes in Japanese comfort food in a casual, diner-like setting. The Mini suits the location, which only has a four small tables and a counter with seating. The menu includes ramen, udon, soba, and rice dishes (katsu don, oyako don, unagi don, curry rice). The lunch time menu offers daily specials (during weekdays, 11 AM – 3 PM) like curry rice, ramen, and udon priced under $10.
Katsu curry rice ($16.50 + $2 for hot/spicy) with your choice of chicken or pork katsu on curry rice, with pickles and a cup of miso soup. If you want to make it spicy, it’s $1.50 - $2, depending on the spice level). The spice mix they add is housemade. Brown rice is also available for $1. I chose the pork katsu. The portion was generous enough that I had leftovers. The katsu had a golden panko crust and wasn’t greasy. The pork was thicker than other places and still moist. The curry was different – not as sweet or thin. It had bits of carrots, onion, potato, and mushroom and was quite thick. It also had a reddish tint, probably from the spice mix they added. It was different – a bit grainy, but flavorful and actually spicy. The housemade pickles were small and sweet; they added a nice crunch. The miso soup was nice and light – no tofu in it, but plenty of miso.
While Suehiro is in a strip mall, they do not validate parking in the lot. Also, they no longer offer the bathroom for customer use.
4 out of 5 stars

It's finally cold in Texas
We're expecting a huge freeze with icy roads and the works this week.
I have a katsu-don for dinner, I have a beer, and I got stuff to make curry at some point, too. I still have cookies. And I plan to spend some time writing for Physical Paradox while we're snowed/iced in this week!!
And maybe after I've demolished my pork cutlet rice bowl if I don't fall asleep immediately 😂
I'm also watching food anime because it's incredible and DUDE I JUST WANNA EAT ALL THE JAPANESE FOOD. ALL OF IT. ANOTHER LEVEL RUINED ME EVEN FURTHER BECAUSE RINKO LOVES okonomiyaki dan sobayaki and oyako-dons and I JUST WANNA EAT LIKE RINKO, OKAY? GOJO, BUY ME FOOD, TOO 😭😭😭
