Jess Watches // Thu 9 May // Day 225 Synopses & Favourite Scenes & Poll
911 (with mum) 7x01 Abandon Ships & 7x02 Rock the Boat
Athena and Bobby set off on their honeymoon cruise, but when duty calls, their vacation is put on hold. Meanwhile, Hen questions her instincts in a life-taking call and grows concerned about Athena and Bobby's whereabouts.
Didn't realize this was a 3-parter otherwise would've watched 2&3 together instead but hey ho, all aboard. It would have been a bold move to kill 2 beloved lead characters in a season, network changing, opener. I really thought for a sec they were gonna do it.
Amphibia 1x11 Grubhog Day / Hop Pop and Lock
Sprig has to decide whether to uphold his responsibilities or have fun at the carnival. / To impress Sylvia Sundew, Hop Pop asks Anne to teach him to dance.
Grubhog will return for vengeance, but spare Anne and Sprig because they looked after it and gave it new thrilling experiences. And Hop Pop's original moves sure were something! It's cute he found someone to dance with who is equally freaky.
Heartbreak High 2x06 Just Kid $h*t
A video gains momentum for Amerie's school captain campaign. Darren grows worried when Ca$h doesn't show up to their housewarming party.
Amerie's goodbye peck on the lips and ily to Harper had more romantic energy than whatever is supposed to be happening with Rowan. And I'm always uncomfortable when they graphically show teen characters having sex. Even with actors in their 20's it still feels exploitative. The farting interlude was hilariously awkward though.

Roxette - The Look 1989
"The Look" is a song by pop duo Roxette; Sweden's second-best-selling music act after ABBA. It was released in early 1989 as the fourth single from their second studio album, Look Sharp! (1988). The album was an immediate commercial success in their home country, spending seven weeks at number one on the Swedish Albums Chart. "The Look" was written by Per Gessle as an exercise while learning how to operate the Ensoniq ESQ-1 synthesizer he had recently purchased, using a repeated A–G–D bass line as the song's core. The track's sixteenth-note rhythm was inspired by the work of ZZ Top. The original title was "He's Got the Look", with the lyrics using male pronouns. Gessle said this was done because he initially wanted Marie Fredriksson to sing the track. Both he and EMI Sweden had chosen to highlight Fredriksson as Roxette's lead vocalist. However, when recording the demo, Gessle realised the song "didn't fit her style that well, so I had a go and it sounded OK."
The singles from Look Sharp! at the time were only released in Sweden, Germany and France. However, an American exchange student from Minnesota named Dean Cushman returned from Sweden and gave his copy of the album to his local Top 40 radio station, KDWB-FM in Minneapolis. The station's program director Brian Phillips initially ignored Cushman's request to play a song from the album, leaving the CD unplayed in his office for several weeks. Phillips eventually listened to it after learning Cushman had come to the office requesting the return of his CD. Immediately impressed by the album's opening track, "The Look" was played by the station for the first time on US radio less than an hour later, and the response from listeners was overwhelmingly positive; the station immediately began receiving phone calls to replay the track.
KDWB began distributing the track to their sister radio operations, sending 500 copies to other stations throughout the United States. EMI America promptly signed the duo to a recording contract as a result of the airplay. The label had previously rejected Roxette as "unsuitable for the American market". The song had already entered the top fifty of the Billboard Hot 100 before official promotion began, peaking at number one on the chart eight weeks later. This made "The Look" the third number one single by a Swedish act on the Billboard Hot 100, following Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling" (poll #152) in 1974 and ABBA's "Dancing Queen" in 1976.
The track went on to top the charts in 25 countries. It spent three weeks atop the New Zealand Singles Chart, and six weeks at number one in Australia, where it was certified platinum for sales in excess of 70,000 copies. It also topped the charts throughout Scandinavia. The song spent five weeks at number one in West Germany, and an additional five weeks at number two. It was a massive success in Spain and Switzerland, spending eight weeks at number one in both countries. It reached number seven on the UK Singles Chart.
"The Look" received a total of 80,5% yes votes!

How many physical books do you own?
In honour of the people who misread my last poll question about the number of standalone volumes by a single author... How large is your collection of books?
For the purposes of this poll, it would only be books that would be a pain in the ass if you were to move (ie no e-books, but ttrpgs, cookbooks, art books, etc count)
#books#book poll#poll#bookblr#booklr#I was profoundly conflicted on the number distribution btw and have no idea if it will work at all so please be kind lmao#mine is 103#though thats only the books that live with me and not with my parents... but the collection at my parents is from when i was a kid/undergra#so they won't all eventually make it into my collection. probably would add about 70 books though

💚 Artists and titles will be revealed after the poll closes, so check back for results! Until then, please don't mention the song title in reblogs! (Guesses about everything else are fine and encouraged though; have fun!) 💚

Since this doesn't appear to have been specified in Nona the Ninth, I'm making a poll:
The main requirement for this is that it has to be a country with nuclear weapons, and since that's a very short list, I've just included all of them as poll options. (Data from here.) The book also says that it was a "major country" which probably makes some of these unlikely, but I decided to include them anyway for those of you who wanted a vanilla extract option (or who knows, maybe North Korea is somehow considered a "major country" by this time this story happens). Keep in mind that the number of nukes has decreased a lot since the Cold War and may continue to decrease in the future rather than increase depending on the political situation, etc.

🌳 wild-man-of-numenor Following
This will be my last post on this blog. After today, I'm moving back to Middle-earth.
When I started this blog, I enjoyed giving you an insight into the lives of the Drúedain on Númenor. However, ever since Tar-Aldarion started his regular voyages, I no longer feel safe on Númenor. I don't know why, but I feel like the king's voyages are going to bring back something truly evil. For my own safety, I can no longer stay here in Númenor.
I don't know if I'll create a new blog about the lives of the Drúedain in Middle-earth. For now, I'll leave this blog up as a way for people to learn about our culture.
Thank you for all your support. May you all have the strength to withstand whatever ill omens come your way.

hello comic readers! this is a blog where you submit comics and i post polls asking if people have read those comics! this is inspired by @haveyoureadthiscomic-poll, who very graciously allowed me to make my own version of their blog.
submission rules:
must be in print. whether that's floppies, trades, manga, graphic novels or whatever. web comics are only allowed if they have been released in print (i.e. heartstopper, lore olympus).
you can submit runs, single issues, or trades. runs can be submitted by volume (i.e. Flash (1987)), by author (i.e. Flash (1987) #164-225 by Geoff Johns), by issue (i.e. Flash (1987) #14), or by arc (i.e. Flash (1987) #62-65). the only requirements are that if you aren't submitting by volume or trade/graphic novel, you must give me issue numbers. author, artist, and year published/started are preferred.
please don't submit fan comics or zines.
that's about it for rules. i'll add anything additional if it comes up. but for now, go wild: https://forms.gle/pzHXs3GxLve6CZML8

Joint ODNI, FBI, and CISA Statement
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ODNI News Release No. 29-24 November 4, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released the following statement:
“Since our statement on Friday, the IC has been observing foreign adversaries, particularly Russia, conducting additional influence operations intended to undermine public confidence in the integrity of U.S. elections and stoke divisions among Americans. The IC expects these activities will intensify through election day and in the coming weeks, and that foreign influence narratives will focus on swing states.
Russia is the most active threat. Influence actors linked to Russia in particular are manufacturing videos and creating fake articles to undermine the legitimacy of the election, instill fear in voters regarding the election process, and suggest Americans are using violence against each other due to political preferences, judging from information available to the IC. These efforts risk inciting violence, including against election officials. We anticipate Russian actors will release additional manufactured content with these themes through election day and in the days and weeks after polls close.
The IC assesses that Russian influence actors recently posted and amplified an article falsely claiming that U.S. officials across swing states plan to orchestrate election fraud using a range of tactics, such as ballot stuffing and cyber attacks.
Russian influence actors also manufactured and amplified a recent video that falsely depicted an interview with an individual claiming election fraud in Arizona, which involved creating fake overseas ballots and changing voter rolls to favor Vice President Kamala Harris. The Arizona Secretary of State has already refuted the video’s claim as false.
Iran also remains a significant foreign influence threat to U.S. elections. As noted in a prior update, we have assessed that Iran has conducted malicious cyber activities to compromise former President Trump’s campaign. Iranian influence actors may also seek to create fake media content intended to suppress voting or stoke violence, as they have done in past election cycles. We previously reported that Iran also remains determined to seek revenge against select former US officials whom it views as culpable for the death of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF) Commander Soleimani in January 2020. It has repeatedly highlighted former President Donald Trump among its priority targets for retribution.
In light of continued influence efforts by foreign adversaries and the increasing volume of inauthentic content online, CISA recommends voters seek out information from trusted, official sources, in particular, state and local election officials.
The FBI and CISA encourage campaigns and election infrastructure stakeholders to report information concerning suspicious or criminal activity to their local Election Crime Coordinators via FBI field office (www.fbi.gov/fieldoffices), by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324), or online at ic3.gov. Cyber incidents impacting election infrastructure can also be reported to CISA by calling 1-844-Say-CISA (1-844-729-2472), emailing [email protected], or reporting online at cisa.gov/report. Election infrastructure stakeholders and the public can find additional resources about how to protect against cyber and physical threats at CISA’s #PROTECT2024 (https://www.cisa.gov/protect2024).”
