I have had Epic the Musical on my mind lately, it just took me some time to decide what Pokemon to make Odysseus. I figured since he is a descendant of Hermes, his grandfather was canonically a shapeshifter, and he's known for being tricky and clever, kinda like a Fox...it made sense in my mind to make him a Zoroark. Maybe his son Telemachus would be a Rockruff cause he's the "Little Wolf"

In the story of Homer's Odyssey, Odysseus and his crew go through several metric ton of utter bullshit between interference from the Gods and Monsters alike on what should have been a pretty quick journey. The actual distance between Troy and Ithaca is about 560 nautical miles. Ancient Boats of their time and make could travel about 4-6 knots depending on conditions, and having just left a war the soldiers were probably short on supplies, so they may have needed to stop on islands along the way to hunt and forage. Without any outside obstruction it probably would have taken at least a week or two, at most about a month. Instead he was lost at Sea for 10 years missing his wife and son, and in his absence being presumed dead the Nobles of Ithaca decided one of them should be the next king and tried to forcibly marry his wife and kill his son.

Historically, we know that the Trojan war was a real event that took place around 1200 BCE, towards the end of the Bronze age because we have found the ruins of Troy. Also around the end of the Bronze age we see reference from multiple civilizations including from Egypt about a group we know as "The Sea People" who appeared to be of the Aegean Tribes aka Greeks, and these Sea People were known to engage in a LOT of Piracy and attacks on coastal civilizations...so the real story that probably inspired the Odyssey was not so much soldiers getting lost at sea for 10 years, but decided to go on a Pirating tour of the Mediterranean...So Technically Odysseus is also a Pirate.

I love, love, LOVE your speedrun comic, expecially the parts with Ace losing his mind and ASL reuniting. I am VERY curious as to how, exactly, this gremlin crew of half-feral children managed to negotiate an alliance with Whitebeard. My bet is Luffy just went “rearranges reality until it’s more to his liking and everybody is left wobbling dazedly”. Also, the Whitebeard Pirates thinking “this explains SO MUCH about Ace”.

Noonoo and her Pokemon pirate turtle crew! This was for the Trainersona: Summer Edition zine! I thought it would be fun to use an original character and her pirate crew for this.

Well, Tamatoa hasn't always been this glam, he was a drab little crab once. Now he can be happy as a clampearl, "Because I'm beautiful, baby!" Tamatoa is a Gargantuan Coconut Crab, also commonly known as a Robber Crab, Bandit Crab, Pirate Crab, or Palm Thief. Coconut Crabs are a type of fully terrestrial Hermit Crabs that use Coconuts as shells when they are younger and eventually outgrow the need for having a shell becoming the dominant predator on their Islands, they have been known to even kill Cats, who in most environments are Apex Predators themselves. They are also kleptomaniacs known to steal anything Shiny such as Pots and Silverware. Tamatoa not only mentions sunken Pirate Ships in his song Shiny, but he collects and hoards treasure, he has panache, and he can throw claws with a Demigod (Actually Maui is a Kapua, Disney translated it to mean Demigod but that doesn't quite cover exactly what they are. It's not that they are Half Human/Half God, they are more like...powerful Supernatural Entities that represent aspects of of Nature, but also exhibit Human-like Behavior. There are 4 Major gods in the Hawaiian Pantheon: Kū, Kāne, Lono, and Kanaloa, and then there are minor gods that include Maui and Pele, probably the most famous Hawaiian gods.) So I think he would make a pretty Awesome Pirate Captain if he had a crew. I made Tamatoa a SHINY Crustle, although you can't really tell he's shiny while he's in his Blacklight Bioluminescent form. I imagine he has an army of other Crab Pokemon he keeps under control by being gargantuan, incredibly strong, and ruthless. It's said that he ate his own grandma, and he will also eat crew members who fall out of line.
