btw after four years i finally finished all data from my iberian-inspired fakemon region. if you even care
#i might start ybraposting again soon who knows#i also have this crave to do pixel art and actually make maps and try to make this a game but i dunno how much this crave will last tbh#i made pixelart back in the day when i was in deviantart so. it's been a while#idk let's see what happens#anyways now that i have the final product#i can say. my fake region is ybra#where pokémon rose and carnation take place (very funny that they are named after the two last canon professors)#yes i know clavell isn't a professor but you know what i mean#i believe i started working on this during gen vii so. lol#anyways. we have ybra as the main region#BUT#there will be three dlcs after you complete the main story#yes three!!! honestly there were only two until i realized i left out a big part of iberia in my original plan for ybra for some reason#and these past days i've been making a region inspired by the kitakami dlc hehe#anyways onto the three dlcs. they are.#1) the glory of ossana. this takes you to ossana. based on southern france aka occitania aka whatever is between kalos and ybra#you have 5 gyms to beat here all thematic (for example there's one specialized on starters and the last one is specialized on legendaries)#of course being next to kalos there'll be references to it. the pokedex has pokemon both from ybra and kalos. and you'll get a new rival#for this region: serena - champion of kalos#also after beating the gym leaders you might get to battle a certain giant man that's 3000+ years old#2) the islands of the muses. this wouldn't make sense if you don't know the main story of the games. but basically throughout the game#you encounter these girls call the muses that protect the access to this dangerous evil pokemon#well. in this dlc you'll visit the homeland#based on the canary islands. each muse has an island associated to them (kinda. cause there's 7 islands)#there's also a mythical pokemon encountered in each territory of the muse and a mini storyline dedicated to it#also these islands are open world!!! and each island has its own pokedex#after beating all the muses and completing all their quests you'll be able to fight mnemosyne their mother and (spoiler) previous champion#3) (the new one!!!!) mysteries of lurmamua. you'll travel to this secluded land called lurmamua based on euskal herria when these mysteries#have been happening just as the region is preparing for an international film festival that is sure to attract tons of celebrities#from all over the world!!!

LE-POKERUS’ GREAT EVENT POKéMON GIVEAWAY!!!
As most of y’all will know, Nintendo are shutting down their online servers for the 3DS. This means that it’s gonna be a hell of a lot more difficult for people to complete their Pokédexes. Unacceptable!
That’s why I’m doing a massive giveaway of event Pokémon from Generations III-VII! Mythicals! Shinys! Pikachu! All available!
The best part? All of these Pokémon are created using official Nintendo Pokémon distribution software, no hacks, no clones, no cheats. Rad!
There will be 50 winners, each able to pick any 10 Gen III-VII event Pokémon (excl. Let’s Go! and a couple of specific event mons) from any language, that’s 500 Pokémon up for grabs!
To enter, all you have to do is reblog this post, winners will be chosen on February 20th 2024, and I’ll message you if you’ve won!
(Trading will take place in Gen VI, VII, or HOME so make sure you’ve got these).

You know what Alola has a lot of? Water. And when there’s lots of water you get lots of aquatic Pokémon. Welcome back to the series where I discuss the real-life inspirations of every aquatic, non-fish Pokémon. This time I’m covering gen VII. To see previous entries in this series see gen I part 1, gen I part 2, gen II, gen III, gen IV, gen V, and gen VI. For my previous series where I covered the origins of all fish Pokémon see here. As before, starters and legendary/mythical Pokémon will be covered in a separate series. I’ll also cover ultra beasts separately, so no Nihilego this time.
Starting things off we have Marenie and Toxapex bringing us the first echinoderms since gen I. While Staryu and Starmie were generic starfish, the Marenie line are based specifically on the crown-of-thorns starfish.
(image: a crown-of-thorns)
These are large starfish covered with venomous spines. The spines are used for defense as they (and the starfish’s other tissues) are filed with a chemicals called saponins. While there is no mechanism for injecting venom, any animal punctured by a spine will get the venom in the wound. It is hemolytic, causing destruction of red blood cells, which can lead to the injured animal suffocating or bleeding out. In addition, the spines are brittle and can break off and get stuck in a wound. In humans, the venom can cause sharp, stinging pains, persistent bleeding, and swelling and nausea for up to a week after the sting. The persistent nature of the pain and hemolysis may be the basis for the line’s signature ability “Merciless”. The other big feature of the crown-of-thorns is its diet. They feed on coral polyps by everting their stomachs onto coral and digesting them externally. This is why the line are specifically stated to prey on Corsola. Too many crown-of-thorns in one coral reef can badly damage it, hence why Toxapex is said to leave a trail of Corsola horns in its wake. Toxapex also takes influence from the hā’uke’uke or helmet urchin, a species found in Hawaii that is shaped very similar to Toxapex’s tentacles when they are all down.
(image: a hā’uke’uke)
Dewpider and Araquanid are based on diving-bell spiders. These spiders spend almost their entire lives underwater, the only species to do so. They do still need to breathe air and so used a coating of water-repelling hairs to carry a bubble of oxygen with them when they are underwater, surfacing occasionally to refresh their supply. The Dewpider line are the inverse of that: a species that can only breathe water and need to bring a bubble of water with them while they live on land. Because of this, they may also be based on sea spiders, a group of marine arthropods that look very similar to spiders. This origin is more noticeable with Araquanid, which has the skinny body and long legs of sea spiders. In both species, the bubble over the head is based on a diving helmet.
(image: a diving bell spider with its air bubble visible)
Wimpod is one of my favorite gen VII mons and its origin is complex. It is based on a variety of aquatic arthropods. Most notably it resembles an isopod while having a head similar to a trilobite.
(image: a terrestrial isopod)
It also looks like a copepod, which are zooplankton that have prominent antennae. Fun fact: Plankton from Spongebob is a copepod.
(image: a copepod)
Wimpod’s behavior of fleeing at the first sign of danger is very similar to silverfish. These are insects with a similar body shape to Wimpod that are famous to coming out in the dark and fleeing once the lights come on.
(image: a silverfish)
Wimpod’s habit of eating almost anything and leading a clean path as it travels makes it effectively a living Roomba. As Golisopod, it is based on the giant isopod, a group of species that are much larger than the average isopod thanks to deep-sea gigantism. This is a phenomenon where animals living in the deep ocean become larger than their shallow-water relatives and has a number of proposed causes. The largest and most famous of the giant isopods reaches a maximum recorded length of 50 cm (19.65 in), which is still quite a bit shorter than Golisopod’s 2 m (6’7”). It is also based on samurai as its shell resembles samurai armor and some of its behavior (such as meditation) comes from samurai stories. Its ability to cleave the air in twain with its claws likely comes from classic exaggerations of a warrior’s ability. Golisopod doesn’t care much for a samurai’s code of honor though, as it will happily fight dirty and run from fights.
(image: preserved specimens of two giant isopod species)
Gen VII was a good one for echinoderms as coming off the hells of the starfish Marenie line we get a sea cucumber in Pyukumuku. Sea cucumbers have a pretty simple body plan, basically looking like tubes. Their most famous ability is a defense strategy some species employ where they can eject part of their guts to deter predators. In real sea cucumbers, the ejected guts will regenerate while in Pyukumuku, they can retract back into the body and even act like a hand. Sea cucumbers also have external gonads that look like strings. The fluffy tail Pyukumuku has is actually its genitals. The spikes on top might be based on sea urchins, which are relatives of sea cucumbers.
(image: a sea cucumber with similar spines to Pyukumuku)
Our final Pokemon for today is Dhelmise and it’s a weird one. An anchor and ship’s wheel bound together and possessed by the ghost of seaweed. What confuses me is that it’s a wooden anchor. It turns out wooden anchors were used at one point in early boats, but were phased out in favor of ones made of iron. Dhelmise being haunted parts of ships is reminiscent of tales of ghost ships, though on a smaller scale. The seaweed on it may be dead man’s fingers, which grows small tendrils and the name is obviously fitting for a ghost-type.
(image: dead man's fingers)
The shiny version having red seaweed could reference red tide, a type of algal bloom that can turn parts of the ocean red. Dhelmise hunts Wailord, meaning it may have been a part of a whaling ship and now the ghosts within it are carrying out their last tasks endlessly, a common trope in ghost stories. It may also reference Moby Dick’s Captain Ahab and his obsessive quest to kill the white whale.
(image: a sunken anchor from a shipwreck in Hawaii's Papahānaumokuākea National Monument)
That’s all for now. Return next time when we go to Galar.

"The detached pincers of these Pokémon are delicious. Some Trainers bring Lechonk into the mountains just to search for them."
-Crabominable's Pokémon Scarlet Pokédex entry
Incidentally, my answer is also a gen VII 'mon: Tapu Bulu
If you were going to (non-sexually) eat a pokemon, which would you prefer and why?
Okay I honestly put a lot of thought into this. At the end of the day, I love seafood and one of my favorites is crab. And there’s about 3-4 crab themed pokemon. So I went by weight. Basically, how much crab meat can I get out of this guy?
Crabominable weighs the most at 397 LBS but then I decided to research the Pokémon. Apparently it’s based off of the Yeti Crab? Which makes sense but I can’t find any resource on whether Yeti crab is edible? It’s so rare and it lives in a remote area so not a lot of people eat it. But I will. I’ll find out whether it’s edible or not. If I die, just know that you can’t eat that crab

Pokémemories: Pokémon Sun/Moon
So, America as a whole let us down. But you know what state didn't let us down?
HAWAII!
Pokémon: Sun/Moon, released for the 3DS in 2016 (.....relevant year right now), was set in the Alola region which is based on Hawaii. Not only did the games provide some much-appreciated shake-ups from the usual Pokémon formula, but its story was almost on par with Black/White in how well it was written, even if its execution was slightly lackluster due to the upgrade to 3D graphics and animation making scrolling through text boxes more of a chore. After both sets of Gen VI games proved lackluster, Gen VII's sets more than made up for it.

Personally I think Gen V had the best characters overall (Ghetsis, Colress, my boy N) but Gen VII had the best team, because there’s just something about Team Skull that’s like. A breath of fresh air. They’re so, so low stakes, they aren’t trying to destroy the world or ‘liberate’ all Pokémon or destroy everything ‘ugly’, they’re just like. A bunch of asshole teenagers being led by a guy whod rather beat your ass bare handed than use his team and a chick who’d ALSO rather beat your ass bare handed but she’s more normal about it
Also team skull has some of the best team music. Tbh. Aether is a close second though I do love Lusamine and Wicke
Team Plasma is overall the most threatening group of villains considering how close they were to achieving their goals through the efforts of Ghetsis, whereas Team Skull is just a bunch of delinquents with a lot of charm in their own respect. They're a bunch of underwhelming losers gathered in one place, and that's what everyone loves about them as bad guys

#372. The base stats of the Ultra Beasts, as well as the levels that they learn moves at in Gen VII, are all prime numbers (a number only divisible by itself and 1).
The Cosmog family line of Pokémon also share this same distinction.
However Naganadel has a Speed stat of 121, which is instead a prime power (a positive number which is the power of a single prime number, i.e. 121 = 11^2 (11 to the power of 2).(X)

Chapter 30- Part 5
Uh…I’m gonna…move on from that rant of mine and get back to explaining what makes Suna so neat.
The third thing is her moveset:
Specifically, the fact that she has Sand Tomb, a move that gets powered up on Ashen Beach. Combine that with Suna’s pretty good Sp. Attack, and she can probably do real damage with that (and Shadow Ball once she learns it).
Of course, that's just one team member. The rest…well, lemme think about this.
I'm expecting Kiki to have a Medicham and/or a Lucario, those seem like staples of Fighting teams, and they can learn moves and have Abilities that synergize nicely with Ashen Beach. I don't think she's gonna have another Fighting/Psychic-type in the form of Gallade, since Victoria already had one and there are plenty of other Fighting-types to choose from. Like…Hawlucha! To use special Flying moves to mess with my own team's Accuracy! And maybe Heracross to deal with Psychic-types?
She doesn't seem like the type to use Dark-types, and using Poison-types seems…darkly ironic given her condition so I doubt we're gonna see any of those either.
But Ame also brought up the move Meditate specifically. Other Fighting-type Pokémon who can learn that move in some fashion include:
Hitmonlee
Mienfoo/Mienshao
Mankey/Primeape
Machop/Machoke/Machamp
Ame also said something about her Pokémon still being able to hit despite Accuracy drops, so that makes me think of Mind Reader. Other Fighting-type Pokémon who can learn that move somehow include:
Poliwrath
Tyrogue/Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan/Hitmontop
Breloom
So…yeah, a good amount of options, still. So now, let me see what I can do in terms of teambuilding. I already mentioned Suna, and Riptide is a given, but outside of that…I mean, I already know not to rely on Flying-types, so that's one option out. That just leaves Psychic- and Fairy-types. Kirin seems good with Zen Headbutt, and Asano can learn that same move so I can probably add him too. I could also add Glare to the team, Intimidate goes hard and she can resist Fighting moves as a Poison-type. And…heck, let's bring Gust back in, priority Cotton Guard and Charm also go hard.
So in the end, the team's looking like this:
I'm gonna get everyone up to Lv. 44. I was considering Lv. 43 at first, but I'm also highly paranoid and so I'm going an extra level to be safe. Training time!
(Yet another training montage la
So I made a mistake.
I trained, I even got Asano to evolve-
But while I was training, I thought to myself, “Huh, shouldn't Asano have gotten Zen Headbutt by now?” And Bulbapedia seemed to agree with me…until I realized I was looking at the wrong thing. I was looking at Meditite/Medicham's Gen IX moveset, not their Gen VII set. And in Generation VII…the only way Meditite or Medicham can learn Zen Headbutt is through the Move Reminder. In fact, they can't learn any damaging Psychic-type moves (besides Confusion) just by leveling up.
So…I can't use Asano for this fight. I need a different Pokémon, someone who can actually take advantage of Ashen Beach. Another Psychic-type probably, hmmm…
Looking at my Boxes, I can see…OH! Shimmer the Munna! She's got-
She's got Lucky Chant! That protects against critical hits! That'll be really helpful in case Kiki has more Telluric Seeds! And…she can also learn Psychic, which gets boosted on Ashen Beach! And I have a good amount of Moon Stones too, so I can easily evolve her!
Okay, so-
Yeah! This is gonna be the final team! Now we can really do some training!
(One ACTUAL training session later…)
So, with everyone evolved, this is what things are looking like now:
Shimmer is holding the Twisted Spoon to further boost her damage output with Psychic, while Suna is holding the Zoom Lens to make sure Sand Tomb will actually land. I didn't think anyone would really benefit from the Telluric Seed this time, so I'm holding onto it for now.
So now, here we are again. The other NPCs don't really say anything interesting, so let's talk to Victoria instead.
Thanks Victoria, no pressure-
Alright, let's see how this goes. I'm going to lead with Shimmer to start strong, and go from there.
Oh, Victoria's acting as the referee? That's neat, proud of her for moving up in the world.
What, can't even open your eyes to look at who you're fighting, Kiki? More disrespect! Can't have anything in the Reborn region …
Also- I'm sorry, but what the heck is this music? It's like…I can't even describe it, but it's not at all what I was expecting. What kinda whimsical wizard boss theme is this??
(Future edit: So I tried to look for what this track was because it was killing me, but I couldn't find anything. I'm sure it's a remix of some kind, by GlitchxCity or otherwise, but I just can't parse it. This is going to haunt me until the end of my days, if someone knows what this track is, let me know-)
Lv. 40…am I overleveled? Maybe. But still…let's just make sure we can kill and open with Calm Mind.
Oh, that might not be good. Unless…I mean, as long as it doesn't use a super effective attack, maybe it'll still be fine.

I don't understand Pokémon fans now a days... Many seem to feel like they have been outright betrayed because they didn't announce any remakes of Black and White on the last pokémon Day as if:
Game Freak ever promised they would. (They did not)
The previous remakes weren't a trashfire. (They weren't great)
The existence of a Legends game means we can't possibly have a remake made around the same time. (BDSP came out alongside Legends Arceus)
Remakes have to come out every generation. (There were none during Gen V or Gen VII, unless you count Let's Go, which still was't the Gen VI remakes people were already crying about back them..)
Its like Pokémon fans hate originality and just need to have the same formula repeated over and over again... Every game must have a third version (RIP Grey, Z and Stars). Every generation must have a remake. Every game needs to follow the same tired old "collect 8 gym badges and beat the elite 4"-formula. Every gen needs to have new Pkkémon but ew not those ones Gen 1 was soooo much better. Surely you can't beat the amazing originality of a rock with arms.
We may get Black and White remakes eventually. Maybe they'll take their time and make them actually better this time instead of repeating all the same mistakes that Diamond and Pearl did without taking Platinum into consideration. Or maybe we won't. Maybe we'll get something great, like another Legends Game... (please don't suck Z-A. You have a lot to live up to.)
One rarer thing I've seen is people asking for a Black and White 3... which I just find baffling... you guys do know that the previous game in the series came out in 2012 right? That was 12 years ago... many of the current target demographic of Pokémon were at best babies at the time... It would be rather confusing.
Sure I know there are games that waited longer for their sequels...Kingdom Hearts 2 came out in 2005 and its sequel in 2019... but most of the Kingdom Hearts series is still available for purchase on modern consoles... I know because I just bought a whole collection this weekend for my PS4 for the nostalgia (currently still stuck on the first game and its...not holding up great). BW and BW2 haven't been (legally) available for almost a decade. Most of the younger pokémon fans have never played them. Releasing another sequel now before remaking them makes no sense.
TLDR: Game Freak never promised us any B/W remakes. We may still get them, but I personally would be fine with not having any.

Question for ppl who've dabbled in Pokémon Home more than me:
Say I had the full version of it in the past and had deposited over a box's worth of Pokémon in it, and then the subscription expired - would the Pokémon exceeding the 30 mark be in a sort of limbo pending the reactivation of the service?
I ask this mainly because I've been trying to figure out where some of my Pokémon went, and I'm not 100% sure I moved them to Home, but I also highly doubt I would have deleted the files from the Gen VII games they were in...
I noticed a pattern that they are mons that don't show up in Galar, so that's why I think they might be in Home, just beyond the basic box. They do show up in Home's pokédex, and for some species, I don't think I ever raised or transferred in another besides the missing mons, but they don't have a history of nicknames or even differentiate between regular and shiny in there (which might have made a difference in my case).
Weirder still, I haven't found them through the history section so it all remains inconclusive. If it helps any, I have 3 pokémon deposited right now and Home identifies 113 "residents" which is what made me think they might still be in there.
#Pokémon#Pokémon Home#one of the missing mons is my Serperior from my original run of White so yeah I'd really like to have her again#but I'm not paying for it without having a pretty good idea of this beforehand#my shiny Lugia and Bagon might be in there too! the former being there would finally end my miserable torture
