POKESHIPPING WEEK 2024!

It's that time again, pokeshippers!

Last year, we announced that the format of Pokeshipping Week - one theme per day - was getting retired. We also said that we'd still put on a celebration of some kind going forward. Well, the time is here, and I'm happy to announce that we are planning a pokeshipping zine...next year!

If you'll forgive the bait-and-switch there, we have seriously talked about doing a zine, but time got away from us this summer. So, while we do hope to tackle that undertaking in 2025, for this year, we're planning what you might call an open Pokeshipping Week!

How does it work, you ask? Simple: over the years, you all have submitted a lot of potential themes for Pokeshipping Week. For every seven that got chosen each year, plenty were left behind. Well, now you can fill November 1 to 7 with art, fics, AMVs, GIFs, graphics, etc., all about our favorite Poke-couple, using any seven you'd like from the unused themes list.

Any and all contributions are welcome, and if they're tagged #pokeshipping week 2024, we'll reblog them here and on the main @pokeshipping blog. Besides Tumblr, we’ll keep our eyes out for the tag on Twitter and DeviantART for artwork, for fanfics on FF.Net and AO3, and for AMVs on YouTube (no NSFW, please).

another watercolor painting!! im going through my pokemon sun playthrough as ricky, and this outfit is what i dressed her up in ^_^ i tried to match her band au fashion as much as possible 🫡

i’ve got game screenshots and long ass ramble under the cut 😭

realizing tumblr can let me ramble continuously as much as i want so i could talk about my thoughts and my previous pokemon runs too woaw...maybe i’ll post pics of those playthroughs one day, but probably on my main blog instead 🤔

here's ricky's current team where i’m at and what she looks like in game!! i was sooo peeved that twin tails are locked in post game, even if they don’t even look like ricky’s hairstyle at all, i just think she needs some kind of ponytail…i used to have her with straight bangs to imitate her three bangs style, but it kinda looked ugly af… :V

i’m just before vast poni canyon so gummy will soon be the rail gun beetle that ricky deserves ^_^ i decided on a sweets/dessert nickname theme, tho i did consider a norse mythology theme, but i thought she’d be more cutesy in a pokémon au/world where she is not in life threatening stakes.

i want to write out my reasonings for each pokémon pick too, this team isn’t exactly what i had in mind since it’s limited to the sun pokédex, but i’m pretty fond of them!! mostly, i thought she could have a non-dex rotom (but since it’s like this, her rotom dex is definitely named mike), and i also thought she’d have a porygon - but u can only get it post-game and i’d have to deal with trade evolutions o<-<

i also chose pokémon sun as ricky’s game since i headcanon her to be wasian HAHA specifically japanese and american/german - since hawaii is known for its japanese immigrant population (which is also reflected in the game itself), i liked the idea of her having an actual game background of immigrating from kanto

1. alolan raichu - pikachu is the iconic mascot, just like ricky XD alolan raichu shares her love of sweets, and i think lets her identify with being alolan too

2. vikavolt - he’s a rail gun!! ricky should always have fun with guns. i think ricky has an affinity with machines, and vikavolt has gundam aesthetics hehe. his pre evolutions are cute too, which i think ricky would like. notably he’s another electric type, a remnant from when i used to have ricky as an electric type specific trainer, before i decided to diversify types for eo teams. rotom also would’ve been another electric type…😅

3. metagross - another association with machines—it reminds me of gladsheim as well. i like the juxtaposition of this hulking creature made of metal next to ricky too. showing off her cute and cool sides...

its name is ike as a companion to mike, making them fit into the sweets theme LOL

4. wigglytuff - i headcanon that ricky enjoys singing (and is the lead singer in band au) so i wanted a music related pokémon. maybe in universe, she would stay as a jigglypuff?

5. toucannon - also because of gun. i actually hunted a shiny version, bc it looks like the bi pride flag aghdjshfd. i think ricky can be prone to have a temper, matching toucannon's angry look

6. alolan ninetales - ok so i was conflicted bc i wanted an ice type, as a reference to ricky’s cryo sleep lol, and i was also considering vanillite bc ice cream… but its moveset sucks ass!!! sorry!!!! i do like ninetales as an additional reference to her heritage though…i have vanillite in rosa’s hypothetical team too so it wasn’t really meant for ricky in the first place :P

[Repost] Mario Pokémon Trainers Series

Almost a year ago, I started this mini drawing series, where I drew the eight well-known human main characters from Super Mario in outfits of the player trainers from all Pokémon regions, in (almost) their official 2D art style, by Shigeru Miyamoto. It's actually hard to capture the full essence of the 2D art style, so I could only get as close as I can. But I think I did okay.

The inspiration behind this series was the stickers from Mario Party Superstars, and since I had been drawing so much Pokémon and missed drawing some Mario, yeah this was the result.

Three months of work, and I did all of this before on computer mouse so it's no easy task. Although after I did Yoshi, I closed off this series and moved on to making more Commissions and finishing my own projects. Despite that, these still get the attention of many in DeviantArt, not so much on Twitter anymore cuz these are literally my first art entries in that site.

I chose a Pokémon from the region assigned to each character:

Mario - I chose Kanto for him, as well as Pikachu because the first Generation is the mascot region of Pokemon, reflecting Mario being the mascot of Super Mario ofc.

Luigi - Johto is actually a region beloved by a lot of people, and Luigi is almost the same, sometimes even more preferred than their counterparts. Although Chikorita's there cuz... green.

Peach - My origin region Hoenn. I chose Skitty for her cuz pink and cute, and perfect for a princess like her.

Daisy - Ironic for a Princess living in a hot biome to be assigned in the coldest region, but at least she has a shiny fellow warm-biome friend Luxio.

Wario - Unova, like Wario and Warioland series, two things that only get the love they deserve way later. Picked Tepig for him, although there are other Unovan Pokémon that'd fit along.

Waluigi - The least loved region, paired with the unloved Luigi Clone. Inkay is due to its evolution method, which also alludes to Waluigi's emblem being an inverted L.

Rosalina - Frankly it's due to the Minior why I assigned her to Alola.

Pauline - Same thing with Grookey that's why she's assigned to Galar.

Yoshi - Someone begged and guilt-tripped me nonstop from the comments in DA, that's why this thing happened. 😑 This too is why I had to strictly implement the "No Free Art Requests!" rule.

Will the series continue? Apparently it did because of this commission. But again, I don't intend on voluntarily continuing this series. So if your character didn't came out, you can always commission me :) ...

I've been playing my favorite Pokémon game again, "Pokémon Emerald" and I couldn't help but think what Pokémon the JoJo's would have.

It's supposed to be a little Joseph xD I'd like to think he found the Shroomish while playing around and kept it! I like Shroomish because, I don't know, it looks really silly in his first phase and I feel like his evolution fits Joseph's style. Other day I will draw it with the evolved version.

ROOK HUNT'S POKEMON TEAM:

Hi!

Hmmm in a group of six Pokémon including Decidueye, this is what I think his poké team would be:

Be warned tho...descriptions might be long and choosing the Pokémon is mostly based on appearance and typings.

(Note: My stock pokemon knowledge that I'm confident in is up to gen six, Kalos and I know a few Pokémon in gen seven to nine if I researched enough lol but imma give descriptions so you can change and think of an alternative if you don't want the recommendations)

1. Decidueye :

Yes! Hunter archer Pokémon yes! Self explanatory I think.

2. Mightyena :

It's either Mightyena, Luxray or any type of dog Pokémon that's similar to what a hunting dog looks like. Since Rook is a hunter, this Pokémon might help him in finding their prey /targets. In my opinion, I think the dog Pokémon could also have enough charm to join the Pokémon contests since he's in Pomefiore. (Pomefiore students might do Pokémon contests since it's the battle of beauty.) Inspiration: if you know the Pokémon adventures manga, Ruby's Mightyena is what I think of. It both has the cool charm and fierce in battles.

3. Gardevoir or Gallade:

Ralts' evolution line is a symbol of beauty, elegance and loyalty. Rook is passionate for beauty so I can see him having either a Ralts, Kirlia or any of the two final evolutions. For me, It just fits, you know... Rook has keen observation, appreciates beauty...This evolution like are psychic pokemon or just have any cute psychic pokemon. Maybe Espurr or Espeon? Sirfetch'd can also be an alternative for Gallade because knights.

4. Jynx

Speaking of psychic beauty, Jynx is another one. Rook appreciates beauty in any form so in my head, I don't know if you considered Jynx to be ugly (because internet says so...idk), but I can totally see Rook taking in a Smoochum or Jynx when others criticize their appearance. It's also Psychic so it works and Ice moves if imagined in real life is beautiful. I don't know what's a good alternative for Jynx but I guess look for ugly-looking Pokémon and Rook will definitely take them in.

Inspiration: If you know the story of Ruby and his Feebas in the Pokémon Adventures manga. That is also what I think I imagine minus Ruby's mindset.

5. Corviknight or Honchkrow

According to Rook's wiki, Rook may symbolizes the queen's crow so any Crow Pokémon is what I think. It's either of these two with reasons that: Corviknight looks so cool, It's a steel type so Rook is basically riding armor which is good if he would go shooting from the skies. Honchrow's evolution is also good because the bird looks like he's wearing an stylish fedora which matches Rook's also stylish hat.

6. Sudowoodo

There is no Alternative Pokémon for this. You might think this is a meme choice of a Pokémon but I think this is genius! However...imagine: Rook is a hunter...Rook has the habit/hobby of stalking--OBSERVING people from the distance. Imagine, Rook having HIS OWN TREE to hide amongst the forest, There's a sole TREE in the rocky mountains, A TREE in unusual spots but at the same time, that tree is not suspicious because TREES are naturally available outside. If you ever think Golems can be a good disguise in rocky walls, remember TREES are Everywhere, ANYWHERE as long as there's soil and earth. Inspiration: I think I read having Sudowoodo hiding as a tree once in the Pokemon Adventures manga...

Conclusion:

Rook really reminds me of Ruby in the manga so yeah!

I can see Rook with his Pokémon participating in Pokémon Contests, enhancing his Pokémon's beauty. Using Psychic Pokémon for mind reading and teleportation, share his sense of styles and can help him in observing others in the distance.

Would A Wigglytuff

Wigglytuff is a tough one, if you’ll pardon the pun. Overall, they’d make good pets for people who have plenty of indoor space and don’t mind a pet with a temper.

Size is a curious thing with wigglytuffs. At three feet tall, they’re certainly on the taller side for pets, but their squishy bodies ensure that they’re not likely to get stuck anywhere inside, at least in this neutral state. Wigglytuffs have a fascinating ability to suck in air and inflate themselves, Kirby-style, to increase the size of their elastic bodies (Red/Blue, Yellow). While in this inflated state, wigglytuffs are said to “[bounce] along lightly like a balloon” (Sapphire). This is ironic, since it seems that wigglytuffs usually inflate like this when angered (Red/Blue) and make use of their larger size with the move Body Slam (Silver): given their low weight, there isn’t a lot of damage that could be done this way. What could happen, however, is that your Wigglytuff gets stuck or knocks things over. One wigglytuff was observed inflating to twenty times their normal size (Ultra Moon), bringing them up to around sixty-five feet tall. Unfortunately, like their pre-evolution jigglypuff, wigglytuffs have a bit of a temper, so you’ll need to be prepared for something as absurd as that image to happen on a whim. Not everyone is going to be able to cope with that, but there’s absolutely worse things in the pokémon world.

A nice thing about wigglytuffs is that the pokédex implies they like to snuggle with each other (Gold). One can always hope that, as a pet, they’d do the same to you, as their fur is incredibly soft. The pokédex claims that anyone who touches a wigglytuff’s fine fur, even by accident, won’t ever want to let go of it (Crystal, FireRed, Black2/White2). Wigglytuffs are very proud of their sought-after fur, especially the curl of extra-soft fluff on their foreheads (Shield). Keep in mind, however, that wigglytuff do shed their fur four times a year, when the seasons change (Sun). This might be a problem for anyone with pet fur allergies (or anyone who can’t stand cleaning up shed fur!). On the bright side, this shed fur can be gathered up and made into high-quality yarn, either by you or an expert you sell the fur to (Sun).

Wigglytuffs, especially considering their light weight, aren’t all that dangerous. Most of their moves made use of pounding you with their body, which isn’t going to be very dangerous at any stage of inflation besides knocking you over. They can, however, put you to sleep with the move Sing. This move is always a strange one, as it can range from inconvenient to dangerous to therapeutic, depending on the context. A well-trained wigglytuff may be a great sleeping aid at night, but they also might send you into a deep sleep when you’re trying to leave for work. It’s a mixed bag.

Overall, wigglytuffs’ score is ultimately dragged down by a combine action of their size and quantity of medium-threat moves. This is a case where there’s a bit of a flaw in the algorithm, because this pokémon certainly ins’t unsuitable enough for a B rank. So long as you’re ready for your pet to become a giant balloon when they’re grouchy, a wigglytuff might be a good pet for you.
