would it be fucked up if the mata let it slip to the rahaga and dume that they were briefly dismembered and had to pop their bodies back into shape when they arrived on mata nui. like gali complaining she isnt used to walking all these stairs and her feet hurt "worse than when i came out of the canister" and bomonga is like ? so she explains she woke up with like half her joints rotted into goo and several bones just fallen out of her body and she had to slot it all back together, and she realizes halfway through that hes looking at her with genuine horror so she asks whats wrong and hes just like thats not normal. thats not normal gali.
"... were not supposed to... put ourselves back together?... just like that?" "absolutely not." "oh" "thats horrifying." "oh"

All accounts of Dume show him as being stubborn and, while protective of his people, not very caring or loving in the way the Turaga were on Mata NUi.
Dume may have fought during the wars with the League of Six Kingdoms, and I feel he might just be from a particularly hardened generation of toa, which made him a particularly hard-hearted turaga. If he was leader of his toa team (and it's hard to imagine he wasn't) one does wonder if his brutal pragmatism was something he learned (maybe after a traumatic incident???)
I think it's easy to see Dume as entering his role as Turaga aware of the importance of Metru Nui and not wanting to have Civil War II occur under his tenure. So he decides the Kralhi would help keep Matoran doing their job. But then they fail and he gets the Vahki and they work 'better' (productivity is high, civil obedience is high). Dume is also likely managing a lot more complicated tasks than the Turaga Mata, having six times the matoran to watch over and probably dealing with trade from all the different regions of the MU (who are not always very scrupulous) so I can imagine he'd slowly drift away from his mentor-guide role and become more of an overseer of the city.
But he probably also is just the sort of guy who'd become like this. He probably loved the praise and respect the Matoran gave him. He'd be like Solomon and the Matoran would be in awe of his wisdom. He'd be proud of his Matoran, but he would have kept a professional distance. His stubbornness and his reputed wisdom makes me think no one ever would have disagreed with him openly, which would just fuel his belief that he is always right.
It's also worth pointing out that Metru Nui suffered a lot under his rule and I'd imagine he felt justified having such a ruthless defence force.
But yes, it is still very, very odd that the Vahki are so, so ruthless. And some of the things they do seem oddly counterproductive. The only good answer I have is that he felt if Matoran behave well, then they won't be harmed and we really need to make them scared of behaving badly so we don't get another civil war (although given they had several millennia with no civil wars, that feels a bit flimsy) or slacking off (because slacking off will kill the universe). It would make more sense if the Vahki were originally ok, maybe they still were a bit rough, but not so bad, but then Teridax got Nuparu to 'improve' them.
I think it's perhaps more important to consider the Vahki as an allegory for police that serve a story role well in the scenes we actually see, rather than trying to work out the motivations for characters in time periods we don't fully know about. Maybe something happened that prompted Dume to act so harshly, but it's just not in the story we have.
It's a bit of a funny and sad mix, how much of a Lohrak around Dume's neck the Vahki are. Certainly Dume is meant to be flawed as a Turaga, a somewhat suspicious character and cranky old man who think Matoran these days need to learn to respect their elders, but ultimately he's a good guy who'd give his life for the cause while spitting in the face of whatever killed him (see him telling Vezok, Avak and Reidak to go do something anatomically improbable when they try to extort him with a Kanohi Dragon). And given how important Metru Nui is, and how dangerous the outside world was, yeah Metru Nui does need some sort of standing army/police force to ensure that shit like the Barraki rebellion or the Matoran Civil War doesn't threaten to kill Mata Nui and doom the MU to drift endlessly through space, but holy shit the Vahki are so insanely bad at it, it's hard to think he'd sign off on it.
As an army they're pretty okay, they're very mobile with two modes of walking and one flight mode, their equipment is also extremely good offensively (mind control, seeing through your targets eyes, you hurt yourself in your confusion, etc), as well as a Kanoka disc launcher for more direct combat, and they're smart enough to think tactically, all without risking any Matoran/Toa/Turaga in combat (and that's without getting into the elite versions). But for Police work... well, they're okay for a Police State where you don't have to give a shit about what your citizenry thinks, their borderline psychotic nature means they're very effective at terrorizing a population into compliance even before bringing in the Brain Hacking they can do, and they are supposed to be the Police for Makuta!Dume's Police State...
They just also happened to be the Police for Regular!Dume's (Police(?)) State, which is a really bad look for someone who's supposed to be Not Actually A Villain. Based on what we see of them, the Kralhi that preceded the Vahki were probably much better at police duties (given that after being driven out of the city by Matoran who tried to "shut them down" they were totally willing to aid and protect Mavrah without issue they clearly don't share the Vahki's abusive nature) without having to take a number of Matoran away from work to do the police work instead (and thus potentially imperil Mata Nui and the MU as a whole by having them not do the necessary work in his brain). If the issue with them was that they left Matoran too weak to do their job after being policed, then maybe all the Kralhi needed was an equipment overhaul rather than being completely scrapped?
I don't know, Dume is meant to be Flawed but Good, but historically he's just made such a baffling decision with the Metru Nui's police forces, spurred on largely I think by Out-Of-Universe needs than because it made sense in-universe, he kind of ended up accidentally being the BIONICLE equivalent of Sentinel Prime, but because it mostly happened off screen it's easy enough for the story to sweep that under the rug. A lore hungry fandom on the other hand is not so easy to shake and I'm left trying to come up with a reason why he'd agree to the Vahki beyond the incredibly unsatisfying "he doesn't really care about the Matoran" or "he didn't think it through" and variants thereof answers.

Order 66 (tbb x Jedi!reader)
Tumblr media
Ok, so i’ve had this idea in my head of the clones with a Jedi S/O during Order 66. I don’t mean they act on Order 66, I mean if everything sorta played out similar in canon (Chip doesn’t work)
Idk, I like me some protective boys.
CW: minimally proofread, jedi!S/O, Reader, Gender neutral pronouns, Order 66, violence, death, swearing, Hunter trying his best, Wrecker being a sweetie, Echo is ready to fight, Tech is the only one who is level headed, and Crosshair being somewhat emotional
You were following Caleb when the order came through. Your steps stumbled and your knees hit the cold ground. All around you, the Force was being ripped apart. Hands were on your shoulders.
your lover. You barely realized through the haze.
With absolute horror, you watched helplessly as clones gunned down Depa Billaba. “Run Caleb!” You heard her scream through the overwhelming grief and death you felt. The padawan turned, lightsaber ready.
“Get away from us!” he barked, calling your name, “Get up! Please!”
He was panicked, confused. So were you.
You managed to look up, seeing the clone troopers across the field standing over Master Billaba’s smoking corpse. They were prepping to kill you and the padawan next.
Without another word you bolted, grabbing Caleb’s hand and sprinting to the trees. You didn’t look back. You had to make sure the kid was safe.
Hunter
“Wait!” He’ll give chase before stopping at the tree line. He had never seen you look so devastated and afraid.
He’s going to follow you. Of course he is. He’s just as confused as everyone else.
Until Tech finally finds out what's going on
“The Jedi have been ordered to be executed.” “Which one?” “All of them.”
“What!? Why!?” Hunter is panicked at this point. The troopers behind him have orders to kill. They won’t show you mercy.
“Apparently they’ve committed treason.”
By the time he finds you, Caleb had already jumped across the ravine and was waiting for you. You turned, tears in your eyes.
“I can feel it…everyone is being killed.”
“We’re going to figure this out,” He’s going to try and calm you down, “I promise, we’re going to figure this out.” His arms are around you.
It wasn’t safe for you. Not anywhere near him and the others. He knows this. You know this.
The two of you come up with a hurried plan.
“Go to these coordinates. Once we know what's going on, I’ll come find you.” He’ll kiss you passionately, “Get the kid and hide.”
Hunter won’t go with you. He’s the squad leader. He can’t just go missing.
Despite the fear that you’ll be found out, he trusts you and your skills to stay alive.
Once you jump across, he’ll watch, make sure no one follows or tries to shoot at you.
Once he’s questioned on your whereabouts, he’s going to lie, “I managed to stab the kid and shoot the Jedi. both of them fell into the water.”
I will say, his nerves are shot until he gets to you again.
But in the meanwhile? He’s antsy. Anxious and a tad distracted.
Also a hairs trigger from snapping.
Crosshair badgers him at Kamino and Hunter barely holds back a punch.
Hunter loves you, so damn dearly. And right now he can’t protect you because he needs to figure out what the fuck is going on.
But, after finding the truth and getting Omega, he makes a damn beeline for the coordinates he gave you.
Plus side? Caleb and Omega become friends.
Echo
What the FUCK just happend!?
He sprints into the trees to keep up, ignoring how Hunter is calling his name.
“Echo, get back here!”
“No.” He will cut off his comms.
He’s an ARC trooper, he can track you to a degree. He’s not like Hunter, but he gets to the general area where you are.
He manages to get to a clearing where you and Caleb are hiding in the trees.
“Cyare!” Echo is clearly confused, worried and he swears he feels the same amount of death that’s overwhelmed you.
Once you reveal yourself, his helmet is off and his arms are around you so tightly.
“I don’t know what's going on, but I’ll keep you and Commander Dume safe.”
Hunter and Crosshair catch up to you, and once Crosshair aims his blaster at you and Caleb, Echo is ready to brawl.
He stands protectively in front of you, gun aimed at the sniper, “If your skinny ass doesn’t put the fucking gun away I swear to-!”
“Both of you stand down!” Hunter will have to get between them, because Echo is 100% willing to shoot Crosshair if it means you stay safe.
He’s not aware Crosshair doesn't exactly have a choice at the moment.
Really no one is aware.
But he’s lost domino squad, he’s lost Fives, he's lost legion, right now his former general is probably being killed…He’s lost so much already.
He refuses to lose you too.
So Echo pulls the trigger first, settling on stunning him and making a dash towards the ravine. Hunter has to keep up.
Once Caleb is across, he’ll get meetup coordinates from Hunter.
Echo goes with you. He doesn’t return to Kamino. The moment he's across the ravine with you and Caleb he’s a deserter.
He doesn’t care. He just doesn’t want to lose you.
He’s a strong, determined guard, and one who didn’t let you or Caleb get hurt.
Wrecker
He casts a glance at Hunter before running off after you.
He has no idea what Order 66 is. Nor does he care.
The guy saw you so…out of it. So scared and confused.
His protective instincts have geared up to 11.
Hunter goes with him, while Crosshair is the one who remains behind to stall.
Once Tech informs everyone that the Jedi have been named traitors and should be executed on sight, Wrecker gets serious. Very serious.
He becomes so unlike himself, even Crosshair is surprised.
Honestly? I see Wrecker as someone willing to gun down any ‘reg’ if they’re threatening his squad or s/o.
Even this early into the Empire.
When he sees you, he’s immediately grabbing you into his arms which causes Caleb to attack.
Admittedly he’s gonna tackle Caleb, only adding to the poor kids terror.
“Wrecker, you're scaring him!”
But after a strong bear hug and an “Easy kid! I’m tryna help you!” The padawan calms down enough to listen.
He puts Caleb down, rips off his helmet and gives you one hell of a kiss.
He’s worried. He’s scared. And he wants to protect you.
Hunter will have to talk him down from running off with you.
The sergeant has to keep his squad together. It sucks but they need to figure out what the heck is happening at the moment.
Wrecker desperately wants to go with you but he can’t abandon his squad.
However, he feels much better once Hunter gives some safe coordinates to lay low and hide.
He’ll get you to the ravine and stand guard until you and Caleb are across and out of sight.
You bet your ass when he meets up with you again he’s not letting you go.
Tech
He isn’t as emotional as the others at the moment. He’s actually focused on gathering as much information in the least amount of time.
He waits, listening to the comm chatter. What is going on? why?
“Execute Order 66.”
After a second, he shares a look with Hunter.
“Tech, go after-”
No more words need to be said. Tech is gone and going after you.
He’s smart. He knows your patterns. He knows where you’d most likely hide. So he focuses on that.
Once he’s confident he’s in a broad area where you and Caleb are, he’s going to call out to you, “Cyare? There’s something called Order 66 on the comms.”
Tech gives you information first. He won’t make you reveal yourself if you don’t feel safe enough.
When Echo announces that the Jedi have been charged with treason, he’ll relay that to you.
“The comms say the Jedi committed treason against the Republic,” He’s going to keep looking around for you, “I know you. You’d never do such a thing. I’m here, Cyare. I can help you.”
Once you reveal yourself, Caleb behind you, he feels the biggest amount of relief.
He pulls off his helmet, giving you a small smile.
“Tech…The Jedi…” your voice cracks, “They’re being killed…I can feel it.”
“I know, Cyare…I’m sorry.” He tries his best to comfort you, but he knows he can never understand.
The amount of Jedi he’s worked with can be counted on one hand.
But he knows this is your family. Your friends. Your very life.
Once Hunter meets up with you guys, a plan can be put in place.
He gives you coordinates for a location to meet-up and hide. You’ll lay low with Caleb.
In the meantime, Tech will return to Kamino, figure out what's happening, and from there a better, more long term plan can be made.
Before you leave though, he’s going to give you the longest, most passionate kiss he's ever given you.
He’s well aware that there's a chance you can be found and killed.
Tech is the only one who has accepted that you may not make it out of this.
But he’s going to keep his mind occupied, distract himself until he’s by your side again.
Crosshair
As soon as the order goes out, Crosshair is under the influence of the inhibitor chip.
He just doesn’t know. No one does at this point.
He watches you run away with Caleb and the drive to hunt you down is hard to ignore.
He needs to find you to kill you, to protect you.
But, the sudden headache he has is damn near blinding.
Crosshair follows Hunter, keeping his comms on.
He freezes when Tech finds out the Jedi have been marked for execution.
The Inhibitor Chip in his skull is contending with his feelings for you.
He needs to execute save you.
When he spots you he pulls his rifle and aims but barely manages to stop himself.
He can’t hurt you. He needs to kill loves you.
Crosshair draws some sort of conclusion that Kaminoans had conditioned all clones to follow specific orders.
He doesn’t know of the chip. He just assumes it comes from the troopers' conditioning.
When his arms are around your body, for a brief moment he thinks of snapping your neck.
Good soldiers follow orders.
He hates orders.
This is the point where Crosshair knows something is seriously wrong with him.
But he’s not going to say anything yet. He can still fight if need be.
“You need to run…hide…get away from here.” it's a rare moment that he’s scared.
The sniper is desperate to shoot protect you.
The headache is persistent, and it’s somewhat distracting.
But he’ll power through.
Crosshair will wait for Hunter to come up with…something.
His eyes are on the area around you, gun set to kill in case any reg tries anything.
The plan? Clone Force 99 returns to Kamino while you and Caleb go into hiding.
You have coordinates. He can find you later.
But…well Crosshair doesn’t like that. At all.
Hear me out. Like Echo, Crosshair goes with you. He knows somethings up with him, but he trusts himself more than he trusts anyone else.
“Tell Kamino they killed me.” He instructs Hunter, “That I died trying to stop the Jedi and you managed to get justice.”
He crosses the ravine with you, only looking back to nod back to Hunter.
By the time Crosshair, you and Caleb safely get off the planet, his headache is a small annoyance that goes away with time.
Crosshair sticks with you until he reunites with his squad and notices Omega
Welp, you got Caleb, what's one more kid?

Backpack Bnuuy
“Your training,” Yoda warned. “You must complete your training!”
“The whole point is-” Luke began, biting off the words. “Look, I know it’s a trap, but my friends are in trouble! The reason why it’s a good trap is that it’s going to work, and it’s going to work because I won’t abandon my friends. I don’t want to be someone who would abandon my friends.”
Yoda looked thoughtful.
“A good point, you make,” he conceded. “Still. Face Vader alone, you must not.”
“I don’t have a choice,” Luke objected.
“A choice, there always is,” Yoda chided. “A good choice, less often. However…”
His cane swung up to point at Luke. “Wait there.”
Luke stood there as instructed, confused, then glanced at Ben’s spirit.
“Do you know what this means?” he asked. “Was he always this odd?”
“Not really, no,” Ben replied. “He’s really been able to focus in the last few months.”
Yoda came back out of his hut, holding a fuzzy animal.
“Here,” he said, putting it down. “A travel sized Jedi Master, this is.”
“I wish you wouldn’t call me that, Master,” the animal replied, shaking out his long ears. “Good day. I am Master Ikrit.”
“Small enough to fit in your ship, he is!” Yoda said, with a nod. “A pacifist, he also is.”
“I can explain myself, Master,” Ikrit replied.
“...have you been there all along?” Luke asked.
“I was actually on Yavin Four,” Ikrit said. “Meditating on the Force. I… lost track of time a bit.”
“Missing for four hundred years, you were,” Yoda pointed out.
“I said I was sorry, Master,” Ikrit replied. “I did skip the whole… massacre thing, though.”
His tail flicked slightly, then he launched himself in a Force-guided leap that placed him neatly on Luke’s shoulders.
“As my old teacher says, I am a pacifist,” the lapine-feline Jedi Master said. “Fortunately, the World Between Worlds does not involve violence. Do you have a backpack?”
Luke blinked, confused.
“...a backpack?” he repeated, carefully.
“I will be your emergency evacuation mechanism,” Ikrit told him. “Through my four hundred years of meditation on the Force, I became aware of the ways in which distance itself is an illusion. A very persistent illusion, to be sure, but I can take you from one place to another in an instant.”
His ear bounced. “...so long as I already know the destination, that is. Distance is an illusion, but getting lost is not. I only got here by following my padawan bond with Master Yoda.”
Luke still felt confused.
“What’s a padawan?” he asked.
“An old term, it is,” Yoda supplied. “A Jedi term. A term for the one who learns while a Knight or Master teaches.”
Around a day later, Yoda was humming to himself and cooking when there was a thump outside.
“Master?” Ikrit called. “Do you know how to heal? I’ve got Luke and his hand, but… there’s an and there.”
“Always rushing around, young kids these days are,” Yoda grumbled, taking his cane and stumping out of the house. “Lost, you did?”
“I don’t think so,” Luke replied, staring at the stump of his hand, then winced as Yoda began making passes over the gap and lifted his severed hand to intersect with the stump. “I lost the fight, but… Leia and the others escaped. I can feel it. I won.”
“Good,” Yoda said. “You did learn the lesson.”
“...does that whole process of going from world to world involve hallucinations?” Luke asked, looking at Ikrit and away from the healing process going on with his missing hand. “Because I swear I saw a really big wolf.”
“Oh, that’s Dume,” Ikrit said. “I’m… not really sure what’s up with him. He’s nice but I’ve not spoken to him much. I think he used to be human?”
His ears flicked. “Sorry I didn’t catch the lightsaber.”
“All right, that is,” Yoda said, firmly. “Make a new one, we will.”
He pointed his stick at Ikrit. “And then, take him to Yavin, you will. Get in touch with his friends from there, he should. Visitors, I do not want.”

"She caught a fish straight out the river with her teeth," Kiina said, head in her hands, thousand kio stare losing itself in the table.
"Ok," Ackar replied.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, OK??" she immediately recuperated from her momentary trance to pierce him with a wide eyed glare: "I TELL YOU THE HOTTEST THING IN THE WORLD AND YOU JUST SAY, OK??"
"I'm pretty sure I can think of hotter things," Vastus yawned while Gresh elected to leave the house entirely to avoid the conversation.
"Like the sun," the Tapyri agreed.
"Or Tarix's tummy."
"Or lava."
"Or a good tongue?"
"Was about to say a grill, but that I can't deny."
"SHE CAUGHT A LIVE FISH," Kiina insisted: "SHE GLIMPSED IT IN THE STREAM, POINTED IT, DIVED IN, AND CAUGHT IT. WITH HER BARE TEETH."
"And?"
"YOU TROGLODYTES HAVE NO TASTE," she finally howled. She turned to Berix and Tarix, who had been blissfully unaware of the commotion due to working on dinner and were called to attention by her whistling in their direction: "I saw Gali catch a live fish out of a stream with her bare teeth."
"That's hot," the other two Gaquri agreed.
"SEE?!?"
"Hope I won't have to do that to get a child," was all Vastus replied.
-
Gali kicked her way into the room holding aloft a seven pound trout: "I caught this with my teeth!" she yelled giddily.
Her siblings erupted in various roars of congratulations.
"That's splendid!" Nokama clapped in very genuine awe and pride. "Please remember to knock next time. I think Turaga Dume is having a heart attack."
