I don’t like the other newsies calling Davey their ‘mother’ he might be a ‘mom friend’ but the newsies familiar relationship is different from the nuclear family dynamic. Davey is just one of them, not their mother. 6. Medda is an aunt to the newsies and Jack, even if she’s the closest thing to a parent he’s ever had she’s still not exactly a parent figure.

Talk fantasy au to me

yippee yay!!!

so the main plot is overthrowing the government because this is my au so of course we’re doing revolution here

basically Pulitzer (who’s the king of this kingdom) is extremely corrupt, but most of the upper class adults wont do anything because they’re benefiting in some way from the corruption (huh…that sounds familiar…i wonder where that’s happened before(the government, it happens in many governments)) so because most adults won’t do anything, the kids have to take it into their own hands

this revolution is led by Katherine with Sarah as her second in command. Katherine, yes she’s the princess, but more importantly she’s a scholar and a magic user. Sarah worked her way up the ranks in society to become a knight to help protect and provide for her siblings and parents. also, those two are gay for each other, yay!

there will be at least one dragon because this is fantasy and i think dragons are really cool, the dragon may possibly get tamed or something by Kath or Sarah

most of the other characters aren’t too developed here but i do have some stuff

Jack and Crutchie still have a brother relationship and they grew up and currently live in the castle town. they grew up begging together in the streets and they still stick together whenever they aren’t working. Jack probably works as a blacksmith or in some other kind of manual labor (i thought blacksmith because there was some artistry involved and he’s an artist), he also paints on the side when he has time and paint. Crutchie is a stablehand because he loves animals, the stable he works at is the same that Sarah’s horse is kept at so he’s how word of revolution got back to Jack. he also really likes magical creatures. they’re both a part of the revolution

the Jacobs family in this au are just barely nobility but do have it better off that peasants, they started raking lower but managed to climb a little socially, in part thanks to Sarah’s knighthood. Davey’s a scholar, he wants to learn everything he can about the world around him and is really interested in magic even though he hasn’t gotten a chance to learn any yet. he didn’t love the idea of revolution because he thought it was too dangerous but he stands by his sister’s side no matter what. also, he definitely has a thing for a certain blacksmith who’s a part of this revolution. Les just kinda helps out his siblings, he was eager to join the revolution. Esther and Mayer Jacobs are firmly against revolution if/when they find out. they’re very grateful for their current social standing and don’t want to jeopardize that.

Race is of around the same social standing as the Jacobs or a little lower, he serves as a messenger around and outside of the castle, sometimes even out into the castle town. he heard of the revolt from Sarah while delivering messages and orders to her and eagerly joined, he became an extremely vital part. he’s one of the fastest people you’d ever meet and has stamina for days. also, because i’m a sucker for Crutchtrack, he always makes up an excuse to deliver messages to the stables to see Crutchie. he’s a lot smarter than he lets on to adults.

Miss Medda still serves as a mother figure to the newsies and aid to their revolution. she and the bowery beauties are bards and own a small theatre where they perform, Jack still paints backdrops for her and her theatre is a common meeting spot for the revolutionaries.

Mr Jacobi is a cook and Henry is a training cook (not necessarily his apprentice but he still learns stuff from Jacobi sometimes). Specs is probably a messenger like Race. that’s pretty much all of the ideas i have so far, i hope y’all like it and i love getting asks about this au :D!!!!

i was rewatching newsies(1989) and i noticed so many things i never noticed before. i thought I would share it here since i dunno anyone else who would find this interesting

- the relationship between miss medda and racetrack. during the rally, in the movie. Racetrack and medda have such an amazing bond. You can see the way medda cares for racetrack in those scene when racetrack is getting hit. she yells and screams wanting it to end, specifically for racetrack.

- when Jack "switched sides." through the bribery. The only one who still had hope for jack was les. he trusted jack wouldnt stay on that side.

- i also love the more slowburn between sarah and jack. unlike katherine n jack in the broadway production. their relationship is more slow and has time to develop.

- David and jack had such an amazing bond. i know the broadway production portrayed this amazing as well. although the movie is my favorite. they spend more time together and david wants to save jack when he goes to the refuge. its such a beautiful scene when jack tells david not to help him escape. you can see the hurt in his eyes.

i was digging through my notes while working on a near miss related prompt and found two little fragments from the never-written katherine pov/focused near miss fic. since i don't think i'll ever finish it, i thought it might be fun to share them here!

“Hey, David.”


“Kate! Hi!” David shifts his bag on his shoulder. “I didn’t expect to run into you here.”


“I was actually trying to catch you, do you have a minute?” Katherine replies. She’s twisting the ends of her hair around her fingers.


“Uh, yeah,” says David. “What’s up?”


They walk together toward the L stop down the block. Katherine can’t get herself to be still, she’s fidgeting the whole way. “I’m going to propose to your sister.”

“I- oh.” David’s stride stutters for a moment, like he might’ve stopped walking but stopped himself from falling still. He smiles at her, though it’s a little sad. “That’s great, Katie. I’m happy for you.”

Katherine lets out a sigh of relief, her whole body relaxing immediately. “Thank you, David.”

“Did you think I was going to tell you not to?”


“I don’t know. No.” She shrugs. “I don’t think I’d have blamed you.”


“Katie, if I were going to tell you to leave Sarah, I’d have done it three and a half years ago,” David says. Now he actually does stop, and Katherine comes to a stop next to him. He puts a hand on her shoulder. “You’re my friend, and I love you. You’ve been good to Sarah.”

He doesn’t even sound bitter.

“We’ve gotta go talk him out of this.” Katherine laughs. “I know it’s Jack, but don’t you think you’re going a little overboard?” “Kathy,” Sarah says seriously, “it’s not about Jack. It’s about my brother.” “What, you think he’s gonna break Jack’s heart?” Katherine asks. She’s pretty sure she knows where this is going, though. “You didn’t know us when Leah was born,” says Sarah, and it’s all Katherine can do not to laugh, “but David came home from senior year of college a different person. Leah’s mom broke him, and he hasn’t dated anybody since. Jack Kelly is not a good first step back into romance.” Katherine can’t breathe, hasn’t Sarah noticed there’s no more air in the room? Sarah pushes on, though, because Sarah has no reason to know how close to home what she just said hit for Katherine, and Katherine has no intention of telling her.
