y'all i know kacchan dying like that must have been traumatizing for the bkdk shippers, but like.... he also died in the gayest way humanly possible.... like i can't even imagine going through that bc on one hand it's like my special boy is dead, but on the other he was so love interest coded, shiggy killed him specifically bc of izuku's intense feelings about him, the fucking yearning for izuku as he died, and then the reveal he carries the little all might card he got with izuku around with him like. i cannot stress enough just how gay his death was. like i just know the shippers had to be a little conflicted

im a nie hauisang chief cultivator believer but i have au worms
hanguang jun becomes chief cultivator, many benefactors of jin guangyao see lwj as the guy that ruined everything, which results in the occasional attempt on his life, mostly by people too stupid to realize how out of their depth they are
cue wei ying with his little fledgling core and demonic cultivation taking it upon himself to be lwj's bodyguard. lwj sees no issue in this- if wwx is determined to stick by his side, that only makes it easier for lwj to keep an eye on him, and protect him in turn.
it's mostly goofy and fun until an actual threat appears, and wwx doesn't understand why lwj is suddenly very against the whole bodyguard thing. this almost certainly results in lwj terrified that wwx is going to die again, and BAMF wwx using his now decently strong core and maybe a little bit of demonic cultivation to flatten their enemies. lwj is confused and turned on and maybe a little guilty for underestimating him

Least favorite writing tropes: Multiple PoVs retelling the same event.
Like, seriously, do you really need to retell the same superhero fight five different times? Repeat the same conversation from both sides?
Just pick one Point of view per scene, and pick the point of view that would either be the most emotionally impactful, or tells the audience the most information. I can assure you, we don't need to know everyone's thoughts about the same event across three different chapters.

also btw that passage about media consumption as activism and the idea of "gayboring" (this post) are twin sisters to me because when you see media consumption as activism and therefore as a reflection of real life, any gritty or unsavory or "weird" aspects of any marginalized culture/community gets completely sanitized in favor of portraying an "ideal" form of that community in the eyes of consumerism (i.e.: boring and safe and non-confrontational)

it's an interesting dynamic that a lot of kids shows have a human (or human-ish) main character who helps/rules/etc a place full of sentient but non-human creatures. princess peach and the toads, true and the rainbow kingdom, charlie's colorforms city, gabby's dollhouse, etc etc
often this is bc the main character is a self insert for the child viewer, and children love to imagine playing with creatures and critters, plus it's convenient to make the "npcs" something easier to design and animate than a bunch of a humans. but you end up with the one outsider coming in as a savior? and i'm always just like. the rammies

The thing about mean rivals is that like there's kinda a reason we stop having them the second the plots started getting world-ending in scope and that's because you do not have time to deal with some whiny asshole who you've beaten over and over again's shit when a space chinchilla is about to suffocate everyone in the region
Like if they're a dick to you the entire way through they quickly become all bark and no bite because narratively they're going to keep losing to you, and again progressively destroying the ego of a small child is second to whatever this year's eldritch abomination is (and if they went so far as to help the eldritch abomination it raises questions about why they're friendly enough to battle you in the post game).
So like. It's simpler if they're just nice? And have arcs where the fact that they keep losing to you is the point? Your rival isn't the final boss anymore you don't have to build up to finally being able to defeat them for good (except not really) (I guess Hau in USUM arguably but LBR the final boss is Ultra Necrozma)
Like I guess I get annoyed when people don't acknowledge there's a point to how the rivals have been handled since gen 3. You don't have to like it per se but there's a reason the rivals are like this and it's not just the devs don't want to upset little kids.
The fact that the adults care about your safety on the other hand...

We as a fandom don’t talk enough about how Game of Thrones decided to combine Jon Snow and Young Griff into one character and how that was absolutely ridiculous on like 1000 different levels. Because how do you combine two characters who are FOILS to one another and then play it completely straight?! Then to make matters worse they gave Jon the boy’s stupid name?! Goddamnit I knew they didn’t get Jon as a character pretty early on, but why mesh his arc with the one guy you shouldn’t combine with? 😭

Main character lineup for a western AU of me and @gxdcomplex’s fantasy ocs! Celestine is a rancher, Atticus is his stablehand (who may or may not have a past he doesn’t want to talk about or why he’s run away from it) and Meadowlark is under their care.

[Marrowsnap and Sienna are she/her, Carrion is they/she] And here are the Coyote Sisters’ leaders, the og coyote sisters! They lead a pack of werecoyotes (and all other people willing to travel with them who need a place to belong) and while they try to avoid conflict, they have some mischievous packmates who wind up out of line and go after a rancher’s herd or get into scuffles in town which is a headache for the Sisters to deal with. Because of this they often go head to head with Celestine and Atticus.

Little unfinished comic I made about Sienna and Carrion finding a wanted poster about them. (Gristle was one of their packmates that tried to attack one of Celestine’s cows)

I think one of my favorite things for exploring characterization and making sure plots are character-driven, without people just being puppetted by the plot, is playing out how different characters in the main role would change a story.
Like, if your MC is an asshole who won't admit their feelings, and you want to check that they're driving the plot, plug in a character who's good at being kind and see what changes. If your MC is rebellious and free-spirited, plug in someone who follows the rules. If the plot doesn't change, you have a problem. If it does, it's one of the hallmarks of a good story.

Do you think Percy should be single? Or do you ship him with another character?
i don't think rick is particularly good at writing romances, so any endgame relationship he writes is going to annoy tf outta me. eventually.
i've rbed a few posts talking abt his proclivities when it comes to writing romances, but a special shout out to the "my partner is the only thing that matters in the world" that's typical of a romance novel. i'm not reading a romance novel on purpose. can we care abt other characters. and characterization. and the plot.
so, yes, i would rather percy (and literally every major character) be single bc of that.
