Unstable Explosives Located in Whitwell
On Wednesday, Marion County detectives were informed of explosives inside the city of Whitwell. The Chattanooga Bomb Squad was called in. The bomb squad decided to use United Stones rock yard to properly dispose of the explosives, as the explosives were old and unstable. Due to their instability, they did not believe transporting them to the county’s firing range across town was safe. The…

MOGAI BHM- Belated Day 22!
happy BHM! today i’m going to be talking about the Black history behind modern American EMS/EMT systems!
Background and Context-
For a long time, ambulance services were primarily operated by police forces. No laws required anything beyond the most basic of medical training for paramedics, and many times, white cops were punished by being forced onto ambulance duty in Black neighborhoods, which led to increased tensions, and to the huge disparities in response times to emergencies in white neighborhoods, and emergencies in Black ones.
However, in 1966, a paper was published by the National Academy of Sciences which revealed that every year, an estimated 50,000 people died in scenarios that could’ve been prevented had their ambulance staff been more properly and adequately trained. In Pittsburgh, a man named Peter Safar, who was a doctor who had lost his 12 year-old daughter to an asthma attack that easily could’ve been treatable, became very disillusioned with the current ambulance systems in America.
The Freedom House Ambulances-
[Image ID: A black-and-white photograph of a group of men, most Black and two in the center white, standing and kneeling together in front of an ambulance vehicle. Almost all the Black men are dressed in the same uniform- a white collared short-sleeved shirt with a black neck tie, white pants, and black leather shoes. The two white men are dressed in dark suits. End ID.]
One day, Dr. Peter Safar was approached by a former ambulance driver named Philip Hallen, who wanted to do something about the severe issues with the current ambulance systems in America. They thought that their ideas would be a good chance to help impoverished, unemployed Black men from Pittsburg’s Hill District find work, so with the help of the fledgling Freedom House Services, they gathered a group of 25 Black men from impoverished areas of Pittsburg, and formed the Freedom House Ambulance Service.
The first group of recruited men were trained in an intensive, 300-hour course on medical training about many different medical topics- and this was the first time ambulance drivers had ever been provided actual medical training in America. They learned key medical procedures like resuscitation and intubation techniques, and Safar, known by some as the “Father of CPR” for his groundbreaking work in resuscitation research, trained them in CPR- and they learned how to provide medical support beyond a ride to the hospital. Within the Hill District, the Freedom House Ambulance Services were extremely successful- so successful that the FHAS director, Dr. Caroline, was contracted by the US Department of Transportation to write the first national curriculum guide for emergency street medical assistance, and the FHAS’s impact spread nationally, becoming the blueprint for emergency medical assistance across the country.
And yet, despite all this, racism in the police force eventually forced the FHAS to be absorbed by a new city-wide EMS service which, although using the blueprint of the FHAS, was extremely hostile to its Black paramedics in an attempt to eliminate them altogether from the program. Some white patients even refused to be treated by Black paramedics. Nevertheless, original FHAS staff like John Moon, who directed the Freedom House Enterprises until 2009 and was the first paramedic to intubate a patient in the field, were the first paramedics in America, and the work they did has forever changed the world of medicine and emergency care.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Nine current or former Northern California police officers were charged Thursday in a federal corruption investigation that found evidence they committed civil rights violations and fraud in an effort to get a pay raise and lied on reports to cover up the use of excessive force, U.S. authorities said.
youtube
Ismail J. Ramsey, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, filed four indictments that outlined charges including wire fraud, deprivation of rights under color of law, conspiracy against rights, and conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids. Nine police officers and one community service officer are named in the charges, though only two are charged in multiple indictments.
The investigation centered on the departments in Antioch and Pittsburg, two cities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Only three of the officers remain employed by the departments and were not on active duty, officials said.
Arrest warrants were served Thursday in California, Texas and Hawaii, said Robert Tripp, special agent in charge of the FBI’s San Francisco Field Office. One has not yet been arrested, officials said.
Morteza Amiri, Eric Allen Rombough, Patrick Berhan, Samantha Peterson, Brauli Rodriguez Jalapa and Ernesto Juan Mejia-Orozco pleaded not guilty to various charges, and most were released on condition that they posted property bonds, the Bay Area News Group reported.
Rombough appeared in Oakland federal court dressed in ripped clothes, with bloody hands and knees and wearing a shirt that read: “don’t weaken,” the Bay Area News Group reported.
His attorney, Will Edelman, told the judge that there was “absolutely no reason” that his client had to be taken into custody and handcuffed because he would have willingly appeared if ordered.
The defendants could face decades in federal prison if convicted of the charges.
Tripp said the arrests were the result of a two-year investigation.
“Any breach of the public’s trust is absolutely unacceptable,” Tripp said while discussing charges against Antioch officers that include using their official positions as officers to deprive people of their rights.
Charges against Amiri, Rombough and Devon Christopher Wenger say the three Antioch police officers conspired between February 2019 and March 2022 “to injure, oppress, threaten and intimidate residents of Antioch, California” and later falsified reports about the encounters.
In obscenity-laden text messages, the three men referred to some suspects as “gorillas.” They laughed and joked about harming people who apparently had surrendered or appeared to be asleep by setting Amiri’s police dog on them or Rombough shooting them with a 40mm “less-lethal” projectile launcher, the indictment said.
Prosecutors say from 2019 to 2021, the dog bit 28 people while Rombough used the launcher 11 times in 2020 and 2021.
Amiri posted graphic photos of the dog wounds, and Rombough said he was keeping the projectiles to make a trophy flag, according to the indictment.
In one case, a man suspected of five armed robberies had given up and was lying on the ground when Amiri’s K-9 bit him, the indictment alleged.
In one text, Amiri wrote: “let’s (f-obscenity) some people up next work week.”
Amiri says that he will find some action and write up the police report, adding: “Just come over and crush some skulls.”
In one 2020 text sequence, Amiri says that he confronted a transient he believed had stolen his mail “and dragged him to the back of a car to ‘discuss’ the matter.”
“Lol. Putting a pistol in someone’s mouth and telling them to stop stealing isn’t illegal,” he texted. “It’s an act of public service to prevent further victims of crimes”
“Defendants authored police reports containing false and misleading statements to suggest that the force they used was necessary and justifiable,” the indictment said. “In truth and in fact, and as the Defendants well knew, Defendants willfully used excessive force in numerous incidents, including those identified in this Indictment.”
Police unions did not immediately respond to requests for information on whether the defendants had lawyers who can speak on their behalf. Emails to the Pittsburg and Antioch police departments seeking comment were not immediately returned.
Thousands of incendiary text messages by more than a dozen officers in the Antioch Police Department had previously come to light and led to a federal lawsuit. The texts contained derogatory, racist, homophobic and sexually explicit language. In some of them, the officers bragged about making up evidence and beating up suspects. They freely used racial slurs and made light of the police killing of George Floyd in 2020.
The city of Antioch, with about 115,000 residents 45 miles (72 kilometers) east of San Francisco, was once predominantly white but has diversified in the last 30 years. Federal and state prosecutors have dropped or dismissed dozens of cases that relied on the impugned officers, and the city now faces a federal civil rights lawsuit over the text messages.
Jalapa, Mejia-Orozco and Amanda Carmella Theodosy/Nash, as well as Antioch community service officer Peterson, were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud surrounding allegations they had other people take and complete online university courses toward a criminal justice degree. The police departments offered reimbursement for college tuition and pay raises for those who graduate college, prosecutors said.
Two Antioch officers, Daniel Harris and Wenger, were charged with several counts related to distributing anabolic steroids.
Another Antioch officer, Timothy Manly Williams, faces charges related to the obstruction of a federal investigation for allegedly using a personal cellphone in 2021 to talk to the target of an FBI wiretap investigation and then made sure the call wasn’t recorded or accurately logged.
“Today is a dark day in our city’s history, as people trusted to uphold the law, allegedly breached that trust and were arrested by the FBI,” Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe said in a statement. “As our city absorbs this tragic news, we must come together as one. Today’s actions are the beginning of the end of a long and arduous process.”
Thorpe is among three Black, progressive members of the five-person council who have said they are committed to holding police accountable.
“To those that have accused me and others of being anti-police for seeking to reform the Antioch Police Department, today’s arrests are demonstrative of the issues that have plagued the Antioch Police Department for decades,” he added.

AI is destabilizing ‘the concept of truth itself’ in 2024 election (Washington Post) Experts in artificial intelligence have long warned that AI-generated content could muddy the waters of perceived reality. Weeks into a pivotal election year, AI confusion is on the rise. On Monday, the New Hampshire Justice Department said it was investigating robocalls featuring what appeared to be an AI-generated voice that sounded like President Biden telling voters to skip the Tuesday primary—the first notable use of AI for voter suppression this campaign cycle. Last month, former president Donald Trump dismissed an ad on Fox News featuring video of his well-documented public gaffes—including his struggle to pronounce the word “anonymous” in Montana and his visit to the California town of “Pleasure,” a.k.a. Paradise, both in 2018—claiming the footage was generated by AI. AI creates a “liar’s dividend,” said Hany Farid, a professor at the University of California at Berkeley who studies digital propaganda and misinformation. “When you actually do catch a police officer or politician saying something awful, they have plausible deniability” in the age of AI. AI “destabilizes the concept of truth itself,” added Libby Lange, an analyst at the misinformation tracking organization Graphika. “If everything could be fake, and if everyone’s claiming everything is fake or manipulated in some way, there’s really no sense of ground truth. Politically motivated actors, especially, can take whatever interpretation they choose.”
A Border Wall to the North? (NYT) Former President Donald Trump paved a path to the presidency in 2016 by calling for a “big, beautiful wall” along the United States border with Mexico. His 2024 rivals in the Republican primary election, scrapping for every advantage against him, looked north. Nikki Haley has frequently told voters that it’s not just the southern border that needs stepped-up enforcement—“it’s the northern border, too.” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently suggested building a wall along some trouble spots of the U.S.-Canada frontier. Vivek Ramaswamy trekked up to Pittsburg, New Hampshire, a tiny town that sits just below the jagged, 5,500-mile line that divides the United States and Canada, and proclaimed that the United States should not just build one wall, but two. Trump does not talk about that northern dividing line himself. But he has promised to revive some of his most criticized immigration policies and has escalated his rhetoric, saying that immigrants living in the country illegally were “poisoning the blood of our country.”
Mexico demands investigation into US military-grade weapons being used by drug cartels (AP) Mexico wants an urgent investigation into how U.S. military-grade weapons are increasingly being found in the hands of Mexican drug cartels, Mexico’s top diplomat said Monday. Mexico’s army is finding belt-fed machine guns, rocket launchers and grenades that are not sold for civilian use in the United States. The Mexican army said that it had seized 221 fully automatic machine guns, 56 grenade launchers and a dozen rocket launchers from drug cartels since late 2018.
Top religious leaders in Haiti denounce kidnapping of nuns (AP) The Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince pleaded for the release of six nuns kidnapped last week and demanded that Haiti’s government crack down on gang violence, in a strongly worded letter released Monday. The Archdiocese, along with the Haitian Conference of the Religious, said in the letter that Haitians are tired of the “reign of terror” imposed by armed groups and called on government officials to protect people and their property. Religious leaders said they were distressed to witness that there has not been a serious response to what it called a scourge of kidnappings for more than two years.
Germany’s surging far right (Washington Post) Over the weekend, in cities across Germany, anti-fascist demonstrators took to the streets, protesting against the country’s far-right Alternative for Germany party, or AfD. The spark to the demonstrations came in the form of an investigative report published earlier this month that revealed how AfD members had participated in a November meeting with far-right extremists where they discussed plans to conduct mass deportations should they come to power. The surging AfD is polling at 22 percent—a level of support greater than what each of the three centrist and center-left parties in the country’s ruling coalition currently command. That AfD officials were openly entertaining the idea of forced repatriation of migrants and even some German nationals of foreign origin horrified many in a country with a deep memory of its past.
Russia and the Patriot missile system (Die Welt) The Russian Beriev A-50 and its crew of 15 had just reached its patrol zone over the Sea of Azov on Sunday evening when the aircraft suddenly disappeared from the radar screens in Moscow. A short time before, an Il-22M1 Russian flying command center had already had to make an emergency landing. What happened? According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the A-50—an early warning and control aircraft like NATO’s Awacs, with a 300-million-euro price tag—had been shot down in the night sky; the Il-22 was irreparably damaged. “For Russia, the loss is both an embarrassment and a catastrophe,” says Italian military expert Thomas Theiner. “It was probably shot down with a German Patriot system that was mounted on a truck close to the front line to reach the target.” The German air defense system is also believed to be responsible for at least five downed Russian fighter jets that Ukraine claimed for itself in December. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Patriot system was working even better than the U.S. had expected: “The Russians are shocked, and I’ll tell you honestly, our partners are shocked that this system really works so well,” said Zelensky.
Ukraine war drives shift in Russian nuclear thinking—study (Reuters) The war in Ukraine has dented Russia’s confidence in its conventional forces and increased the importance to Moscow of non-strategic nuclear weapons (NSNWs) as a means of deterring and defeating NATO in a potential future conflict, a leading Western think-tank said on Monday. NSNWs include all nuclear weapons with a range of up to 5,500 km (3,400 miles), starting with tactical arms designed for use on the battlefield—as opposed to longer-range strategic nuclear weapons that Russia or the U.S. could use to strike each other’s homeland. Monday’s report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) raised the question of whether Russia might be emboldened to fire a NSNW in the belief that the West lacks the resolve to deliver a nuclear response.
Modi’s consecration of controversial Hindu temple caps years-long campaign (Washington Post) When Hindu radicals stormed a 16th-century mosque in this Indian river town [Ayodhya] and tore it to the ground in 1992, the demolition mortified India’s leaders, ignited religious riots that killed 2,000 people nationwide, and spurred figures in the Bharatiya Janata Party, accused of inciting the mobs, to issue anguished apologies. On Monday, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a grand Hindu temple on the site of the razed mosque, he spoke not of contrition but of justice achieved and pride restored—of a glorious “new epoch” awaiting the believers of Lord Ram like him. Thirty-one years after the Babri mosque was destroyed in a seismic event of modern Indian history, Modi’s consecration of a $300 million Hindu temple on the contested hill that many Hindus believe to be the birthplace of a beloved deity marked another watershed for India: the triumph of Hindu nationalist ideology over the secular, multicultural vision espoused by India’s founders.
7.1 magnitude earthquake rattles part of western China (AP) A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck a sparsely populated part of China’s western Xinjiang region early Tuesday, causing extensive damage but injuring just six people in freezing cold weather, authorities said. The quake was the latest in a series of seismic events and natural disasters to hit the vast country’s western regions. The quake rocked Uchturpan county in Aksu prefecture shortly after 2 a.m., the China Earthquake Networks Center said. Rescue crews were rushed to the area.
Israeli forces storm hospital as Khan Younis hit by bloodiest fighting of 2024 (Reuters) Israeli forces, advancing deep into western Khan Younis in Gaza’s bloodiest fighting so far in January, stormed one hospital and put another under siege on Monday, cutting off the wounded from trauma care, Palestinian officials said. Troops advanced for the first time into the al-Mawasi district near the Mediterranean Coast, west of Khan Younis, the main city in southern Gaza. There, they stormed the Al-Khair hospital and were arresting medical staff, Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al Qidra told Reuters. Qidra said at least 50 people were killed overnight in Khan Younis, while the sieges of medical facilities meant dozens of dead and wounded were beyond the reach of rescuers. The Palestinian Red Crescent said tanks had surrounded another Khan Younis hospital, al-Amal, headquarters of the rescue agency, which had lost contact with staff there. Residents said the bombardment from air, land and sea was the most intense in southern Gaza since the war began in October. Video filmed from afar showed scattered civilians wandering around a ghost city crowded with tents, abandoned laundry flapping on lines as gunfire rattled and smoke rose into the sky.
Little Shelter in Gaza (NPR) As the Israel-Gaza war continues for a fourth month, more than a million Palestinians are taking shelter in Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost city. Many have fled violence for the fourth or fifth time. Demand for shelter and skyrocketing prices for materials have made finding even a tent difficult. Some badly needed tents are waiting on the other side of the Gaza border. They’ve been rejected at Israeli inspection points due to fears Hamas could use the metal poles to make weapons. Nighttime temperatures can dip into the 40s. Fresh water must be purchased, and there are no bathrooms. “These are not conditions meant for human beings,” a U.N. spokesperson says.
$100 Bills (Mother Jones) As cash goes out of style, one bill stands supreme: the $100 U.S. banknote. Six years ago, the number of $100 bills in circulation for the first time overtook the number of $1 bills in circulation, a credit to the $100 bill as an internationally respected and easily transferrable unit of currency. As of the end of 2022, there were 18.5 billion $100 bills in the world, and then they went ahead and printed another 1.5 billion bills in 2023 again. Of the total value of all existing currency in circulation, 80 percent of them were $100 bills, and while that is pretty neat, it’s also of concern, as Benjamin Franklin has become the preferred medium of exchange of people evading taxes, orchestrating criminal networks, and fueling kleptocracies and corruption.
Doomsday Clock stays at 90 seconds to midnight (BBC) The Doomsday Clock—which shows how symbolically close the world is to nuclear Armageddon—is to remain at 90 seconds to midnight. Scientists have listed reasons for keeping its hands the closest they have ever been to "Doomsday," but stopped short of nudging it further forward. The threat of a new nuclear arms race, the Ukraine war and climate change concerns were all factors, they said. The clock is set annually by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

(KRON) — Prosecutors filed criminal charges against a U.S. Marine and retired East Bay police officer who allegedly shot his wife, barricaded himself inside his Pleasant Hill home for three days, prompted a neighborhood-wide shelter-in-place order, and shot at SWAT team vehicles.
Chunliam Nai Saechao, 40, is being held without bail in Martinez Detention Facility. On Wednesday, the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office charged him with nine felony counts, including attempted murder of police officers, assault with a firearm, and injuring a spouse.
Saechao served in the United States Marine Corps before he joined the Pittsburg Police Department in 2007. He rose through the ranks and received awards as a detective.
When he retired from the police force in 2022, the Pittsburg Police Department wrote on Instagram, “Detective Saechao has been a valued member of the Investigations Division where he was primarily responsible for Domestic Violence Investigations.”
Saechao is now accused with committing a domestic violence-related crime.
The District Attorney’s Office said he “may have suffered a mental health episode” last week when he opened fire on his wife at their home on Cleopatra Drive. Saechao “shot at his wife while she was trying to gain entrance to their residence,” prosecutors wrote.
The wife was shot through a locked garage door around 7 p.m. on December 7. She was treated at a hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Meanwhile, a police standoff ensued back at the Cleopatra Drive house and neighbors were evacuated. The ex-cop refused to communicate with a police crisis negotiation team.
Pleasant Hill Police Chief Scott Vermillion ordered his SWAT team to disengage and leave the house at 2 a.m. on December 8 for a “cooling off” period. The shelter-in-place was also lifted for 15 hours. Saechao, who has expert military training in firearms and combat, remained inside his house with an assault rifle.
Instead of calming down, the mentally unstable Marine became even more unstable, investigators said.
Vermillion said he was the decision-maker throughout the tense, multi-day incident. The police chief told reporters, “Our adversary that night had military combat training. We did not believe he presented an immediate threat to the community. I decided that the presence of a SWAT team could have made things worse, so I ordered them to tactically disengage.”
Vermillion continued, “I believed that there would be a cooling off period, and that he would not escalate. He did the opposite. His mental health and social media posts elevated.”
Saechao wrote a flurry of strange tweets on X throughout the first standoff, including videos he shot through the windows recording police officers outside.
One tweet stated, “Come try to kill me if you dare I’ll kill you back.” Another tweet wrote, “I’m kinda over it you might as well kill me so I don’t have to try to help you guys anymore I know where I’m going next do you?” Another tweet stated, “And just so you know I am perfectly sane.”
The SWAT team was re-deployed back to the house after sunset on December 8. Officers attempted to negotiate with Saechao, and he fired dozens of rounds at armored SWAT vehicles, police said. Vermillion estimates that Saechao stuck the police car around 30 times using an assault rifle and shotgun.
“Mr. Saechao shot at officers who were in the process of evacuating residents from nearby homes. Bullets also struck a police vehicle during the evacuation, which had two officers inside. The officers inside the vehicle did not sustain any injuries,” the DA’s Office wrote.
Finally, on December 9, Saechao walked out of his house, with his hands up, and a gun on his hip, police said. According to Vermillion, Saechao wanted officers to shoot him. He was taken into custody by FBI agents and the SWAT team.
The police chief told reporters, “I do regret that our community, and especially the Sherman Acres neighborhood experienced a major disruption caused by this prolonged and serious event.”
Saechao will make his first court appearance on Thursday afternoon in Martinez.

Toby Joe Denim Morris, Oklahoma inmate 836194, born 2000, incarceration intake at age 19, scheduled for release in 2029.
Assault with Dangerous Weapon, multiple counts
A McAlester man was sentenced to prison after accepting a plea deal in Pittsburg County District Court.
Toby Joe Denim Morris, 19, pleaded no contest to one count of felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of felony aggravated assault, according to court documents.
Morris was originally charged in September 2018 with felony shooting with intent to kill after police alleged Morris shot a .40-caliber handgun at the feet of another man and through the driver’s side door of an occupied vehicle.
Court documents show the charge was amended to felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and Morris was sentenced to 10 years in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections with the final four years suspended with supervision by ODOC’s Probation and Parole Services for the first two years after release.
In February 2019, Morris was charged after his alleged involvement with four other inmates in an assault inside the county jail that left an inmate with an orbital fracture and a broken nose, an affidavit in the case stated.
Morris was charged with and pleaded no contest to felony aggravated assault and was sentenced to five years in the custody of the ODOC which will run concurrently with the 10-year prison sentence, the plea agreement states.

there are reports of sounds like explosions going on essentially all night in philadelphia. some media is reporting that it’s related to a few attempts at breaking into ATMs, but many have pointed out they don’t think that makes sense given locations as well as the ongoing noise
instead, some postulate that it might be that the police are implementing the use of something like an LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Devices) — basically meaning the police would be implementing sound cannons. these cannons are known to be extremely painful, as, if you are in the vicinity, their loudness and tones can cause immediate pain, headaches, and hearing loss. they are also essentially psychological warfare even if not in the immediate vicinity of protestors, as it can sound like there are explosions going off as frequently as the police see fit.
these cannons are known to be accessed by the police in pittsburg as early as 2009, and perhaps more well known from their use during the Ferguson protest — after which the sale of LRADs increased drastically, esp to police departments

Refusing to Yield Chapter 20
This is based on real life. Just the name has been changed to protect the person identity. There is mention of all types of abuse. If that is a trig, please don’t read. Reader get into a relationship with Kim Seokjin and Min Yoongi but all BTS is in this series.
I have calm down enough to process what just happened in the lobby of the hotel. I look right at Fred and asked did you just tackle and wrestled with David? Yes, Ann I did but Fred you saw the text message from my uncle. I know Ann. I don’t know how he was able to send the text and it came up has uncle’s number? Jason keep my uncle out of here for right now just let papa m come in the pool area. Ann why don’t you want your uncle here with us? Sean did not know what hotels we would be staying at. There was only 5 other people beside me who knew where we were staying at on this tour. Papa m, Greg, Bryan, Fred and my uncle Jim.
Ann what are you saying? I do not know yet but ever since uncle Jim has come around, I have been having this weird feeling. I need to hack his phone. Little w how are your hacking skills? Not has good as yours. Okay Ann are you going to hack it now? Yes, I am because feel some how my uncle is involved this stuff now. David just got busted at this hotel and security is going to be tight at the concerts here in Philadelphia. I think you two should make your move at our third tour stop in Pittsburg, Pa. Jim does Ann suspect you of helping us?
No because I showed up using an excuse that her mother called me and told me Ann was being against her will? Here is the text Fred and I saw. Peanut come down to the lobby the police chief wants to talk to you. Tim you have Tom’s number, right? Yes, Ann I do text him and tell him if the chief of the Philadelphia Police Department is still here to keep him here until I get to the lobby. I am going out there now to confront my uncle who has weaseled his way in making me think he truly wanted to protect me and cared about my wellbeing. Jason call judge Carl and let him know my uncle has been helping David, Frank and Steve also. What are we going to do about him on this tour with us? He will be gone has of now. Fred take me to the lobby. Ann, I don’t think that is a good idea?
Fred why is it not a good idea for me to go confront my uncle? Sis you started using your small voice before everyone came down to the lobby. I am afraid you might have a flash back when you go confront your uncle. Then what do you think we should about my uncle? Are you still in his phone Ann? Yes, Fred I am still in his phone. Send a text to Frank saying all security has left your side at the hotel they are with the group at the Wells Fargo Center doing sound checks and making sure the stage is the right way for the concert tomorrow night. Are we trying to see if Frank and Steve are outside and catch them all at one time? Yes, sis that is what I am staying we do then at that point Jason, Tim, little w and I will go out with you. Everyone else will stay here until I send the text for everyone to come to the lobby.
Bryan, they do not know who you are do they? Only Ann’s uncle knows who I am but know one else? Why Fred, because you are coming with us just in case stuff goes another away. Okay I can do that Fred. Tim put Tom on speaker so we can tell him our plan and Jason do the same thing with judge Carl. Tom and judge Carl yes, this Fred we are setting up Ann’s uncle Jim. Why are you setting up Ann’s uncle? Ann found texts message proving he also has been helping David, Frank and Steve. There is one tell Frank and Steve to try to get Ann when we are all in Pittsburg because David just got arrested here. Ann yes, did you hack your uncle’s phone yes, I did.
You are going to have to teach the state trooper’s hacking team your tricks because they have been getting caught trying to hack. I will teach them judge Carl after I have my back surgery. We sent a text to Frank saying all security has left Ann side at the hotel they are with the group at the Wells Fargo Center doing sound checks and making sure the stage is the right way for the concert tomorrow night. We are trying to see if Frank and Steve are outside the hotel now and we are trying to catch them all at one time. Tom is still on speaker when he starts laughing a little. Judge Carl is asking what is going now? Tom what is going on? Your uncles face just got pale when two males just walked into the hotel. Fred is that our cue to start ahead to the lobby. Yes, it is Ann are you ready?
No, I am not but we need to end this now. Okay princess remember we all love you in our own away but I’m and Jin love you until the end of our lives. Fred is wheeling me out to the lobby with Jason and Bryan on one side of me. Tim and little w are on the other side of me. Fred, yes Ann I don’t think I can do this? Sis why do you think you can not do this? He was supposed to be the one relative on my mother side who really cared about me. Ann remember there are people in this world who only think about themselves and not know what they are doing to other peoples feels or harm they are causing them. Little w was talking to me. Did anyone notice his face when Ann had the flash back about the party I and his friends couldn’t go to.
The night you met David again. What are you saying Jason? His face looked like please don’t remember more details. Specially when Tim asked you how you even made it back to little w? Yes, I did Bryan said. It looks like he was hoping something wouldn’t come out. Do you think he had something to do with it or do you think he was there? Your uncle was the only one who knew the truth about who you were back home Ann and he is the only one who knew where we lived at to. Please I don’t want to think of that night? Okay Ann we will not bring it up again but if you do have a flash back about that night.
I want to see if you can give us a little more information about what happened that night okay Tim was asking? Yes, Tim but I don’t want to focus on that right now because we have a rat to catch. Well look who should up just in time to catch another rat. Ann honey what are you talking about? Uncle Jim why don’t you explain to papa M what is going on here. Peanut I don’t know what you are talking about? Really why don’t you check your text messages between Frank and you. There are a couple papa M would like to know about. You little bitch hacked my phone just like the way I taught you? Yes, I did uncle Jim.
How you pretend to get a call from my mother telling you I was being held against my will. How you told Frank that he and Steve should wait until our third stop on the tour in Pittsburg to grab me since David got arrested here. Jim thought you told us that now would be a best chance of grabbing Ann since all the security team was at the Wells Fargo Center with the group doing sound checks and making sure the stage set up right for tomorrow’s concert? I never sent you that text message. No, I did because I am getting tired of all this cat and rat shit. When we found all the texts message. I wanted to come out and confront you, but my brother came up with another plan. I didn’t tell you to send that texts message. Sorry Steve I should have said the brother who give a shit what happens to me which is Fred. After Fred and I found the text message asking me to come to the lobby because the chief of the Philadelphia Police Department wanted to talk to me.
Uncle Jim you should know better that Fred will not leave my side at all while I am awake. I am just glad that he saw who was running towards me and tackled him to the ground. I have a question for you and you better tell me the truth because you know how I have those times where I remember shit that has happened to me in the past. Were you the one who told Amber my identity back home and set it up where little w and our friends couldn’t come? Plus, make sure I got back to little w home sober to tell him about David the guy I met there? Yes, it would have worked that night, but your mother didn’t want to push our look with you that night. If we had it the way David, Frank, Steve and I wanted you would have never left that house again. You piece of shit I trusted you and you were helping them. I heard enough Tim text everyone and tell them to come to the lobby? Yes, Fred I will do that now.
Sis you are going to need all the support you can get right now. I know Fred because the one person I trusted on my mother’s side betrayed me. I want you in jail just like the rest of them you piece of shit. Ann honey I know your upset but please calm down I don’t want you to collapse from the stress. Yes, papa m I will calm down. My uncle Jim gets arrested long with Frank and Steve. Ann honey what would you like to do now to get your mind off anything that happened. Let’s go change and head to the Wells Fargo Center. There is something I want to check out there. Ann honey do you think it is a good idea that to go today after all the traveling we just did.
Yes, papa m I just want to make sure there is no surprise tomorrow for the concert. Okay Ann we can go just to check everything out and see what we are working with for the next three days. We get to the Wells Fargo Center after I called to inform them that we were coming today just to look around and see what we are going to be working with for the next three days. They agreed to let you all come down to see the arena and give us a tour, so we knew where everything was at. Bryan check both bathrooms out where we all would be at? Both had a handicap stall in them with grab bars, but someone would still be standing outside the stall just in case I need help. Fred, Tim, little w, Jason and Tom went to check out the security measure for the back of the building where we will be using to come in and out of it. Big J, Big R, Big B and little r went to see if there where different ways to get behind the stage without being stopped be security and there was none. Big K, little s, little k and Big S, went to see if there where any spots for people to hide in the different hallways and there was only one. Little b, little j, Big A and little c went searching for ways to hide in the arena after the concert was over, but they found nothing.
Big C, little f, and Greg where checking to make sure if the guys wanted to bring me on stage there would be obstacles? They found one but was easy to fix. Jin, Yoongi, Namjoon, Hobi, Jimin, Tae and Kookie went to look at the stage set up to make sure they would be able to move around like they practice for the tour. Papa m and I check over the dressing rooms they were big enough for us to use the way we need to. Big K called little w to have all the security team to meet them in the hallway where someone could hide. It was the hallway I would mainly be using to get around the arena before, during and after the concert, so they thought it would be idea to see what everyone wanted to do about it. Fred was talking we will always send two people down this hallway the whole time we are in this building to make sure no one hides here. Everyone agrees with Fred suggested about the potential problem we may have. Since we were done with the walk through and found out there was a park down the street from the arena. We decide to go there just have a nice quiet time before everything got hectic the next three days.
I was enjoying myself when Bryan thought it would be a good idea to ahead back to the hotel for me to get out of the wheelchair and lay down. I really didn’t want to go. Jason could tell that something was on my mind but didn’t know how to ask me. Jason goes to Tim and little w said do you guys see the way Ann is staring down at the lake like she has a lot on her mind. Ann didn’t even hear Bryan suggest on us heading back to the hotel so she could lay down. Someone is talking to someone else. Jason must understand that he was the last family member on her mother’s side Ann thought would betray her like this. He was the first person she called after three days at my home and for him to admit he had set up the whole party thing and about this tour Ann is going to be hurt. None of us could have seen this coming but Ann is truly hurt. She is probably thinking if she never called him when she came to live with me that all this could have been avoided.
We could have gotten Ann out long time ago. Even time I mentioned getting Ann to papa m he would say everything is going well no one knows Kim is Ann back home why move her to somewhere else. What is Ann doing someone is yelling. Everyone looks right at me has I got out of my wheelchair crawling towards the lake. Someone gets right in front of me and startles me from what I am trying to figuring out what I am doing on the ground. Sis are you okay Fred is asking me. I curled into his arms just crying when everyone else gets to us. Fred, I don’t know why I was crawling to the lake. Ann honey you really haven’t spoke about what happened with your uncle at the hotel or about how he was the one to set it up for you going to that party. My mind keeps flash back and forth to all the times he took me camping, hiking, fishing and swimming.
I am trying to figure out where everything went wrong with him. Ann was it always just you two out in the nature? Yes, it was but that is what I am trying to figure out why it was just us and no other family member. Bryan is talking Ann I want to try something with you since we are in the park it might case a flash back but that is what I am hoping to do. Greg asked Bryan why would want to case Ann to have a flash back while we are in the park. Little w didn’t you say to Jason that Ann blocked out what David did to her. Tim didn’t figure it out until she had the flash back with Jin in the bathroom? Yes, Bryan I did tell that to Jason. You are going try to figure out if Ann has blocked out bad memories of her uncle to? Yes, I am but I want everyone to be okay with me doing this?
I might be hard on Ann. Shouldn’t you just ask Ann for permission on doing this. I am going to ask Ann for permission, but I also want it from everyone else also. Bryan, I trust you so go ahead and do what you must. I am just going to curl up in Jin and Yoongi arms why you do this. Jin and Yoongi facing each other so I can be put in their arms. Fred sit blocking my patch to the lake and is ready to help with me. Bryan is talking again I want everyone else to make a circle around them. Ann try to think back about your first memory you have being in the nature. Fuck Bryan we don’t need to go farther at all.
Princess what did you remember. I don’t want to talk about it, but he never cared about my wellbeing. Ann honey what are you saying? The first time we into the nature was after the first sex party that my mother threw. It was the next day, he took me swimming in the bathing suit mom made me wear. It was in a lake like this one where no one else was around. He took me out far to where his chest was covered a little and I couldn’t stand but not far enough where my head would be under water. He wrapped my legs around his waist. Princess stop there please we all now know what you remember. Bryan, yes Ann why do I block out somethings but not everything?
Ann, I don’t know but it could a coping mechanism for you to believe that certain people in your life never hurt so you had them to trust until you found the true people who care about you. Why don’t we get you back to the hotel to relax we have three busy days ahead of us? Okay we can head back now. We get back to the hotel in time to eat at the restaurant they have on the property. We all sit down together and some of the other people and staring at me and making me feel uncomfortable. Jin sit on one side while Yoongi sits on the other side and everyone else follow suit with sitting around the table. A female comes over to the table asked me if I like being a female of the night? I looked at her and said for your information ma’am my boyfriends are on both sides on of me and they apart of group preforming at the Wells Fargo Center for the next three days. Plus, I am the manager of the group which has 5 more in it. My father owners the company who is here with us.
One is my nurse to my health problems and the rest is they security team. We always eat has a family so if you don’t mind, I would like you to keep your comments to yourself since you don’t know anything but us. Wait guys are BTS are not? Yes, they are and if you don’t mind, we would like privacy so we all can eat. I said nicely to her. I am sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion about you miss and I am a big fan of theirs weren’t you on tour with them the last time. Yes, I was on tour with them last time. I am glad to see you are still hanging in with the problems you are facing. Thank you for your support and are going to be at one of their concerts here. Yes, I am tomorrow night.
Okay good and I hope you enjoy the concert tomorrow. I am sorry again for interrupting your dinner. It is okay and you have a good night. The waiter comes over to take our order little w is waiting to see what I order for dinner knowing I have gone back to my old ways a little with eating. Tim lends over too little w asking him why he is staring at me quietly. Tim have you not noticed the way Ann has been eating lately? Yes, I have but I think it is all from this stress about the tour. Tim, I don’t think so she was doing it when I arrived. She has been doing it even after I told everyone why she eats the way she does. I think we should order a little more if she only orders a salad and trick her to eat some of our food.
I am going to send a text to Fred telling him my plan so he can do the same thing if Ann gets a salad. Fred pulls his phone out looks at it for a couple of second types something and I see little w pull is phone out looks at. The waiter asked who wants to order first everyone goes Ann why don’t you order first and we will go around the table with Yoongi ordering next and so on. I will have a salad with French dressing on the side. Ann honey is that all you want is a salad yes because I am not real hungry. Yoongi orders it goes around the table with everyone ordering a little extra food. Bryan, Greg, Jason and Tom catch on to what the other guys are doing so they do the same thing order a little extra food. All our food comes out in 30 minutes. Little w is the first to offer me so food from his plate. Ann this is good you should this so you can order it tomorrow if you like it.
Okay little w I will try it. Your right little w it is good. Here Ann try a little of my fish Jason says? Yes, I will just a little okay. Jason that fish is good. Everyone else starts giving me a little bite of their food to try. I was eating my salad when Fred’s phone goes off again. Fred how is the lucky girl that you are getting texts from? Being your sister, I think I should get to meet her and give you my opinion about her. Ann, I am not texting a girl.
I am texting little w about who is going to be ware tomorrow for the concert. If that is the case, why are you not talking about it at loudly. I do not want anyone who is not part of the group to hear our plans just for safety reasons. Okay I understand that but if that is the case why hasn’t Jason, Tom, Tim, Big R, Big J, Big K, little s, little b, Big B, little r, little k, Big S, little j, Big A, little c, Big C, little f and Greg phone gone off. Because little w brought it to my attention before we order our food. I decided since little w and Tim are sitting next to each other let them look at it first to see if there needs to be any changing. I send it out to the rest of the security team. Okay that is a good idea, but I don’t think your telling the truth so spill the beans or I can always just go in to check your messages. Little w starts talking Ann we all noticed how you have only been eating just a little bite of food even after I told everyone why you do that. I text Fred to listen to what you order and if you order a salad to order a little extra food, so you could try it.
Little w if you only told Fred then why did everyone else do that? Papa m is talking now Ann I saw the texts message since I am sitting next to Fred. That is why I asked you if you were only to have the salad. When you answered my question like that, I knew what was going on. I get why all of you did that, but does Bryan, Greg, Jason and Tom know why you guys did that. Jason goes Ann you forget that Greg and I were in school with you. We know you’re eating habits, so we just followed everyone else. Bryan talking now I don’t know your eating habits but when everyone else was ordering like that I figured I follow suit with them. Tom is talking now I am in the same boat as Bryan, so I followed along also. My eating habits are something we should not discuss in public. We are on this tour if it makes all of you feel better, we can keep ordering like you all just did and share your food with me.
Why don’t we pay the bill and ahead to our rooms to sleep since it is getting late and we have up since 4 this morning. We all leave to ahead to our rooms. We have three suites on the top floor. Bryan and Fred are in the suite has Jin, Yoongi, Namjoon, Hobi, Jimin, Tae, Kookie and I took. Papa m is in the suite with little w, Big R, Big J, Big K, little s and Tom that suites is on the right of ours. Tim, Big B, little r, little k, Big S, little j, Big A, little c, Big C, little f, Greg and Jason are all in the suite to the left of ours. They decided it would be better to put us in the middle suite and all the security team on both sides of us. I call papa m cell phone make sure I remember the right time we had to be at the Wells Fargo Center tomorrow since we did the walk through today, we kind of change the time. We where going to arrive at noon tomorrow, but we change it to 2 pm. We could get a little more sleep tonight.
I wake screaming around 7 am Jin and Yoongi jump up not knowing what is going on. I woke everyone up in the suite. Bryan and Fred are the first two to reach our room. They are followed by Namjoon, Hobi, Jimin, Tae and Kookie trying to figure out what is wrong? My back and leg feel like they are on fire from the inside. Jin you need to move now Bryan is saying. Jin gets off the bed so Bryan come get on to feel my legs. Namjoon go get Ann’s treat ready put two of each in. Ann the burning you are feeling is from the nerves that are damaged. Bryan what do we about?
Remember the doctor gave you a treat for the nerve pain? Yes, the doctor only said to use it if you had the burning feeling. I need you to take it with your treat it should help with the burning pain you are having. I want to go to the arena for the concert tonight. Ann we will see how you are feeling by time we must leave. Ann here is your treat let Jin help you take it while I call Mike, little w, Tim and Greg to come here. Bryan what is wrong can you and little w come to our suite. I also need to call Tim and my brother to our suite. Bryan what is wrong something I was hoping Ann would not start having. Okay little w and I are coming now.
Bryan what is wrong? I need you and my brother to come to our suite. Bryan what is going on something I was hoping Ann would not start having. Okay Greg and I are coming now. Kookie can go to the door to let in Mike, my brother, little w and Tim in so I can tell them what is going on. Fred can you move Ann carefully to the couch and Yoongi lay the way that makes Ann comfortable. Yes, we can do that. Bryan what is going on? I will explain once Ann is comfortable and Mike, my brother, little w and Tim are here also. I want to explain this once also see what you all want to do about this.
Ann said that she wants to go to the concert tonight, but I want to hear everyone else an opinion on this now. Everyone that Bryan wants to know is in the suite. They are waiting for Bryan to explain what is going on. Bryan can you please explain why Ann woke up screaming saying her back and legs felt like they were on fire from the inside. The day we went to see the neurosurgeon, he told us they might be a chance Ann may start experiencing burning feeling in her back and legs due to the nerve damage. The reason I did not saying anything soon about it is the surgeon was not sure if Ann would experience it or not. He did order a treat for it which I am supposed to give Ann two when it happens. Namjoon that treat you made Ann was for the nerve damage. Ann still waits to go to the concert tonight, but I told her let’s wait to see how she is feeling right before we must leave but I want to know what you all think? Jin asked Bryan did he say how many times a day Ann might experience this.
No, he didn’t because like I said he was not sure it would happen to Ann. He did say that some of his patient have had it happen three times a day some twice a week or some would have it twice a month. It all depends on how bad the nerve damage is. Since we don’t know how bad the damage is, I don’t want to give the wrong answer. The decision should be made by everyone in this room. Ann goes to the arena we hope the nerve pain doesn’t happen again. Some of us stay behind with Ann to see if it happens again. Either way Ann might experience it or might not experience it again for a while.
Yoongi say let see if it happens again before we leave and if it doesn’t princess you come with us. If it happens again then the security team gets spilt down the middle some come with us and some stay with Ann. Princess are you okay with that decision? Yes, I am okay with that decision. Do we want to wake up the rest of the security to order breakfast and explain what might be happening for the concert tonight? Greg said he will go wake everyone up in our suite to come over here for breakfast. Little w said he will do the same thing and after we eat, we will explain there might be a slight change with security at the concert. We ate and explain that there might be some changes for the concert tonight. Jason asked what is going on? Bryan explain that I woke screaming from my nerve damage and my back and legs felt like they were on fire from the inside.
We are hoping it doesn’t happen again before we leave. If it does happen before we leave Ann is going to stay at the hotel some security will stay with Ann while the rest will go with the group to the arena. If it does not happen again Ann, we be going to the concert and all security will be there. I had no burning pain at all before we had to leaving for the concert. We get to the arena Fred, little w and Tim do a walk through the main hallway. Tim stay were the little hiding spot is while Fred and little w finish the walk to the dressing rooms. Fred calls Mike to say all clear and everyone else can come in. Ann how are you feeling Jin asked. I am okay but my back is bothering me a little. I know Yoongi and little w are busy right now.
If someone can put me on the couch so I can be a little comfortable that would be great. Ann yes, Bryan have we tried to see if there is anyone else who you can get comfortable with. The only ones we have not try is your brother, Jason, Tom and you? Everyone else I can not get comfortable with. Jason and Tom are on security team, so they are going to be floating around the arena, so they are not of the question. It only leaves you and Greg to see if I can get comfortable with. Bryan is talking let’s try to see if you can get comfortable with the four of us. If you can not get comfortable with us. We will have Greg take little w place so you can be a little comfortable while we are here. Jin and Yoongi are okay with see if I can get comfortable with Bryan, Greg, Jason and Tom.
I can get comfortable with just Jason and Tom since they are both the same height has Yoongi and little w. Fred comes into the dressing room with papa m. Bryan is talking to Fred, Jin, papa m and Yoongi. Jason and Tom are the only two others beside Yoongi and little w Ann can be a little comfortable with. Fred, Jin and Yoongi how do you guys want to work with this information? Jin is talking now Fred are you going to be in here with Ann, Bryan and papa m, right? Yes, Jin that is correct. Which of three would you prefer to be in here with you? Jason and Tom no offense to you guys but I prefer little w in here with us. Tom is talking now Fred I have no problem with you wanting little w in here.
You do not know me that well and from the way no do not like leaving Ann side at all. You must have formed a strong bond with Ann to call her your sister. Jason is talking now Fred I rather be floating around the arena watching for anything suspicious going on. Like Tom said you have formed a strong bond with Ann for her to even think of you as a brother. I have been right by side Ann since David started his shit on the first tour with Ann. I will explain to you all the same thing I told everyone else but I rather not in here. Ann is having a good day let go for a walk. Bryan, Greg, Jason, Tom and Fred left the room, so I guess he going to tell them why he is so protective with me. I here Greg and Jason yell are you serious. That means he told them about his sister who died because of an abusive boyfriend.
They all come back in and I guess Fred told you all why he is very protective of me. Yes, Ann he did. We now understand why he will not leave your side. He did not tell any of us until the day papa m brought in Tim and his friends. When one of the old security guards tried to force themselves on me. I yelled for help and Fred grabbed him off me. He also stood in front of me so he couldn’t get near me at. Fred was the only one to be the first to act whenever we needed the security team. Everything is done and the guys are ready to go out on stage. I give Jin and Yoongi a kiss before they head out to perform.
Little did I know Jin and Yoongi were planning a surprise for me at the concert. Ann, we need to get you dressed. Papa m, I am dressed. Honey we need to get you dressed for the stage. Why can’t I go like this? I have orders from Jin and Yoongi get you into a dress for the stage. Papa m, I don’t have a dress to wear number one and number two who going to help me get in it? First, we have a dress for you and second Bryan, and I are going to get you dressed. I hate surprise couldn’t someone at least give me ahead up on what they are planning to do. None of know what they are planning. The only thing we know is we need to put you in this dress and when Greg knocks on the door it is time for you to go on stage.

Dozens of community members, families of police violence and activists joined a rally outside of the Antioch Police Department on April 18, 2023, to protest the racist and homophobic text messages shared among the department. (Beth LaBerge/KQED)
The FBI arrested nine East Bay police officers on Thursday for alleged civil rights violations, interfering with investigations and defrauding their employers, Ismail Ramsey, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California, said at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
The arrests were made in a series of raids early Thursday morning across and beyond the Bay Area, following an 18-month FBI investigation and the release of four federal grand jury indictments against the officers. Charges include conspiracy to commit wire fraud, deprivation of civil rights and destruction of records.
“Today is a dark day in our city’s history, as people trusted to uphold the law, allegedly breached that trust and were arrested by the FBI,” Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe said in a written statement shortly after the arrests. “As our city absorbs this tragic news, we must come together as one. Today’s actions are the beginning of the end of a long and arduous process.”
The FBI arrested nine officers on Thursday and a total of 10 have been charged across four indictments, federal law enforcement officials said at the press conference Thursday. Eight of those arrested have made initial court appearances so far.
“This case is one of the highest priorities for the San Francisco Field Office,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert K. Tripp. “Law enforcement officers bear a tremendous responsibility to police out communities lawfully in keeping with the constitution, and we must always be true to that guiding principle.”A chart showing the list of charges against Antioch and Pittsburg police officers by a federal grand jury on Aug. 16, 2023. (Azul Dahlstrom-Eckman/KQED)
“Today’s announcement reporting the arrest of current and former APD officers is disheartening and undermines the incredible work our staff does on a daily basis,” Acting Antioch Chief of Police Joe Vigil said in a press release. “Any police officer who breaks public trust must be held accountable, especially because our effectiveness relies heavily on confidence and support from our community.”
The first indictment includes charges against Morteza Amiri and Samantha Genoveva Peterson of the APD, along with Pittsburg Police Department officers Brauli Rodriguez Jalapa, Ernesto Juan Mejia-Orozco, and Amanda Carmella Theodosy-Nash, for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and faking college credits in order to receive pay bumps.
The second indictment alleges that APD officers Daniel Harris and Devon Wenger illegally obtained and distributed anabolic steroids, and for attempting to destroy evidence that they had tried to do so.
Timothy Manly Williams of the APD was indicted on obstruction of evidence and for destroying and falsifying records to obstruct a federal investigation using a wiretap.
The fourth and final indictment announced Thursday alleges that Morteza Amiri, Eric Rombough and Devon Wenger, all with the APD, carried out what Ramsey called a “disturbing litany” of civil rights violations. The violations include inappropriately deploying a canine and other weapons in order to deliberately harm individuals in Antioch.
Ramsey said that officers shared photos of their victims’ injuries and collected mementos from attacks, such as ammunition used against people of Antioch. “Defendants boasted about their illegal uses of force,” the federal attorney said.
The investigation is still ongoing.
The indictments and subsequent arrests mark a turning point for many members of the community who have been reeling from the recent police scandals.
The investigation kicked off in 2022 after concerns were raised about police officers who lied about their college degrees. But the FBI and Contra Costa County district attorney’s investigation into the local police department would reveal far more crimes and civil rights violations from Antioch and Pittsburg officers.
Among discoveries was a culture of explicitly racist and homophobic messages sent between numerous Antioch police officers. The investigation revealed officers not only using racial epithets including the N-word and describing Black people as “gorillas,” but it also showed officers had falsified confessions to build cases and physically assault suspects.
In several messages, the officers bragged about racial profiling and beating suspects.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta launched a separate civil rights investigation into the APD in May, after it was revealed that officers had exchanged racist and homophobic text messages about community members and people in custody.
“It is our job to protect and serve all of our communities,” Bonta said in a press release announcing his investigation. “Police departments are on the front lines of that fight every day as they work to safeguard the people of our state. However, where there are allegations of potentially pervasive bias or discrimination, it can undermine the trust that is critical for public safety and our justice system. It is our responsibility to ensure that we establish a culture of accountability, professionalism, and zero tolerance for hateful or racist behavior, on or off duty.”
Former Antioch Police Chief Steven Ford announced his retirement last month and officially stepped down on Aug. 11 amid the scandal.
The spiraling revelations have impacted nearly half of the department’s sworn officers, and texts were exchanged between nearly 45 Antioch officers. As of July, 40 out of 90 officers were no longer working, the East Bay Times reports.
Dozens of cases that officers in the probe were involved in have since been dropped or derailed.
Robert Collins, whose step-son Angelo Quinto was killed by Antioch police in December 2020, told KQED that the arrests were an important step in rebuilding trust that has been lost between the community and its law enforcement officials.
“It’s amazing and shocking and sad that the lack of transparency and accountability has led to a police department that is so culturally deficient and problems that are so ingrained, so pervasive. But it’s good that there is some accountability and transparency coming out of the results of this federal indictment,” Collins told KQED. “It’s painful, but it’s a first step in improving the situation.”
Bella Quinto Collins, Quinto’s younger sister, was cautiously optimistic.
“This arrest is really good news,” she told KQED, “But at the same time, I don’t see this as necessarily the end of anything. It’s pretty clear that there’s still an ongoing issue within the culture of APD and there’s so much more work to be done to look into other officers that seem to be involved in various other issues and who are implicated in those text messages.”
Gigi Crowder, executive director of National Alliance on Mental Illness in Contra Costa, called the arrests “one step in a long road,” and that a lot of young people and families she works with have grown fearful of their own law enforcement agency.
“This might send a message to officers who hold those beliefs but hadn’t been involved … that you can’t get away with being asked to protect and serve and carry these racial belief systems about a community.”
She added: “We get complaints from across the county. If they do deeper probing, they will find it’s not isolated to Pittsburg and Antioch.”
Mayor Thorpe has previously faced criticism for seeking accountability for officer misconduct. In his written statement on Thursday, the mayor wrote: “Today’s arrests are demonstrative of the issues that have plagued the Antioch Police Department for decades. Seeking to reform the Antioch Police Department is not anti-police, it is pro our residents, and pro officers that have served and continue to serve with honor.”

Police announced Friday that they have arrested a suspect in the fatal murder of a man this week on a San Francisco subway commuter train.
Javon Green, 26, was arrested Thursday in Pittsburgh, a city about 40 miles east of San Francisco, after police released a surveillance video photo of a man described as a person of interest and asked anyone with information to come forward to contact authorities, said Officer Kathryn Winters, a spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department. #UPDATE: @SFPD says investigators have made an arrest in @SFMTA_Muni train shooting that left one dead, one hurt. According to prison records
Green was taken to the San Francisco prison just after midnight on Friday. You face charges of murder, possession of a concealed weapon and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime. It wasn't immediately clear if Green had an attorney who could speak for him. When asked if he had engaged the services of a lawyer, the police did not answer. Wednesday's shooting on a crowded train killed Nesta Bowen, 27, and wounded a 70-year-old man, who was taken to hospital with injuries and later released. Winters said police believe there was a confrontation between Green and Bowen before the shooting. He added that he didn't know if Green and Bowen knew each other and that the reason for the shooting was not clear. After the train stopped in the Castro neighborhood, known internationally for its LGBTQ activism, Green got off the train with terrified passengers. Winters reiterated that the shooting had nothing to do with upcoming Pride events. However, the shooting cast a shadow over the celebrations at a time when members of the LGBTQ community are facing growing threats, including protests at libraries where drag queens read to children. Winters said the police department will be fully booked throughout Pride weekend and officers will pay special attention to train stations. “As we head into Pride weekend, we know there are a number of events taking place across the city. We'll have officers on site anyway," Winters said. Read the full article

Via Newsweek:
Lawmakers in New York have begun drafting legislation that would require potential gun owners to have the past three years of their social media reviewed before they were granted permission to own a firearm.
Eric Adams, the president of Brooklyn Borough, and state Senator Kevin Palmer are currently writing the proposed legislation, which would give law enforcement authorities the power to check up to three years of an individual’s social media accounts and internet search history before they are allowed to buy a gun, WCBS Newsradio 880 reported. One of the main aims is to identify any hate speech shared by the users, as the politicians noted that such offensive comments are generally only discovered after mass shootings occur.
“A three-year review of a social media profile would give an easy profile of a person who is not suitable to hold and possess a firearm,” Adams explained, according to the WCBS report.
“If the police department is reviewing a gang assault, a robbery, some type of shooting, they go and do a social media profile investigation,” the borough president pointed out.
Palmer and Adams insist that such legislation is needed to curb gun violence, despite inevitable opposition from gun lobbyists as well as some who may be concerned about free speech.
Adams also pointed to last weekend’s massacre at the Pittsburg Tree of Life Synagogue, in which 11 worshippers were killed and six others were injured. The attack was the deadliest to specifically target the Jewish community in U.S. history.
The Brooklyn leader emphasized that the shooter’s social media accounts would have raised serious alarm bells if such checks had been in place. Under existing laws in Pennsylvania, which would not be impacted by a New York policy shift, all the shooter’s weapons were bought legally, according to police.

Austin Lee Gossett, Kansas inmate 116287, born 1992, incarceration intake in 2017 at age 25, earliest possible release date 12/16/2023
Narcotic distribution
A Pittsburg man has been sentenced to eight years in prison on drug charges, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.
Austin Gossett, 25, was sentenced today to 96 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections. Gossett pleaded no contest to one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 1,000 units of MDMA (Ecstasy). The crime was committed in September 2016.
The Kansas Attorney General’s Office has filed charges, following a multi-agency drug bust in Southeast Kansas. He was arrested after law enforcement seized 10 pounds of narcotics in his Pittsburg apartment.
Police seized $350,000 worth of MDMA an apartment. They recovered 5 pounds of MDMA in pill form, or ecstasy, and 5 pounds of MDMA in powder form, known as molly.
“That’s not heard of, that’s not what we normally encounter as far as our normal investigations,” says Lieutenant Ben Henderson with the Pittsburg Police Department. 24 year old Austin Gossett was arrested on the charge of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute. Police say that area is not typically a problem and neighbors say the bust was unexpected.

ARCTIC WARNING BRINGS GALE WARNING TO KEY WEST
ARCTIC WARNING BRINGS GALE WARNING TO KEY WEST - https://keywestlou.com/arctic-warning-brings-gale-warning-to-key-west/The northeast is buried in snow as I write. An arctic front of unusual proportions the cause. The arctic front is also affecting the southern U.S., though not with snow. Colder than normal temperatures, strong winds and rain. Unusual weather for Key West. The home on occasion to hurricanes is at the moment under a gale warning. Began at 7 this morning and is supposed to lift by 1. Should the gale materialize, it will not be that bad for us hurricane weathered veterans. Winds will be 34-47 knots. At the moment, winds are 25-30 knots. Frequent gusts at 35 knots. I looked out the window. Then walked onto the front porch. Finished my excursion in the back yard. The palm trees are bending. Reflects the severity of the wind at the moment. Thin trunked trees swaying more than full trunked ones. The thins ones moving 1-2 feet back and forth. The thicker ones 1-2 inches. The high today projected at 63. Tonight's low 51. The type of night I wish I had a woman sleeping next to me. What is happening not a big deal. Though different. Gives Key Westers something to talk about. An interesting police raid thursday afternoon. The Sheriff Department's swat team raided a Key West home. Swat team raids in Key West not that frequent. Raided was the home of local resident Justin August Meyer, 31. His home in the sleepy 2700 block of Staples Avenue. The swat team had a search warrant. Inside the home, they found guns not all allowed, cocaine, and cash from drug sales. Meyer was arrested. He is part of a motorcycle gang, and a member of Pagan's Motorcycle Club. A woman and 2 children were home at the time of the raid. Because of COVID, I very rarely go out. I am back into quarantine. The only time I have left the house in 3 weeks is for a doctor visit. I had a doctor visit yesterday. I cannot recall the last time I purchased gas. Well before the past 3 weeks. I was close to empty yesterday. Stopped for gas. Wow! How do most people pay for gas and feed their families? I drive a Volkswagen Beatle. Small gas tank. Twelve gallon capacity or close t it. A little over 11 gallons cost me just over $50. Biden must resolve the problem. The cost of gas will do more to harm him than most other things. The way things work out. Strange happenings. Biden was scheduled to speak in Pennsylvania yesterday afternoon. His topic infrastructure. A Pittsburg bridge collapsed early yesterday morning. The bridge ran over Fern Hollow Creek. Several vehicles and a Port Authority bus went down. Since it was 6:39 am, traffic was light. A little later would have been peak time and heavier traffic. The bridge has an average daily usage of 14,500. People standing by participated in the rescue of 3 persons from the bus. They made a human chain 150 feet long to reach those in the bus. Biden visited the scene. Spoke to those there: "The idea that we have been so far behind in infrastructure for so many years, it's mind boggling." As for the rest of the nation's aging bridges, he pledged: "We're gonna fix them all." It is 10:50 am. The wind has calmed down. Is it the calm before a storm? There is such a thing. I have experienced it many times with hurricanes in Key West. Enjoy your day!
